View Full Version : Linux killed my MDA Compact

So I tried the linux build for the MDA that's been listed on the Wiki, as per the instructions, booted it up - GPE worked pretty well - needs a bit of work, and then switched it off, rebooted and put it back in my pocket. I think there was the normal boot loader screen, but I soon got busy with other stuff.

Anyway, now 8 hours later it's completely dead - apart from the green flashing LED ?!? So I removed the simm, SD card and battery. tried rebooting... nothing on the screen. When I press the power button the green light starts flashing as it does when it's got network coverage, but nothing else works...

Really bizar problem - I searched the forums but didn't find anything... anyone have any ideas? I'll leave the power off over night and battery disconnected to see if discharging the backup battery makes any improvement.

Cheers,

Tom.

Seems like a hard reset fixed it.... kind of odd though - it wouldn't charge either... almost like the firmware had failed or something...

Linux wipes the RAM, so some crucial parts of wince<5 are destroyed and
you need a hard reset.
Dual boot on wince5 is not a problem, though.

Linux does not touch the wince firmware in any way.
It is possible to rewrite the flash, but it's for real hardcore hackers only :)
