View Full Version : TyTN LCD Screen Replacement...

ygeller
2nd January 2007, 06:00 PM
I (my 1.5 year old daughter) managed to crack the LCD display on my new TyTN(!!!). I tried transplanting in it an old HTC Wizard display that I had, which turns on as blank white and therefore doesn't help me... I have been looking on ebay and found a company from HK that sells new displays. They have generation 1 or 2 types. see here: http://cgi.ebay.com/Full-LCD-Screen-display-for-HTC-TyTN-T-Mobile-MDA_W0QQitemZ250054642139QQihZ015QQcategoryZ41343Q QtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem
I assume this is probably the problem I have (??) I guess the display generations are different.

Does anybody have any insight into this? Has anybody replaced an LCD display in their TyTN?

I'll be happy to provide a detailed step-by-step on how to do the replacement if anybody is in the same #$%@y situation I am in...

I'd greatly appreciate any information... I need my phone back...

Hi I have a Tytn from T-mobile (the Vario II). I've been searching here in the uk for a LCD screen also and cannot find one for this anywhere! If you figure it out please let me know, I would be extremely grateful. Taking it to a place called Carphone warhouse tomorrow hopefully they can repair it. Will let you know thanks.

Don't know if it will help you or not, but here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1045073&postcount=195) it is the part number of HTC TyTN screen, I got it on the description sheet after service center fixed screen alignment issue on mine:

Code: HTC60H00037-01M
Description: TFT-LCD MODULE, TD028STEB1, NEW SUNPLUS, TOPPOLY, TYTN

It was an HTC TyTN with S/N HTC628.

Also try to google this (http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&safe=off&c2coff=1&q=TD028STEB1&btnG=Search).

OK, so I first tried to place a display from a dead HTC-Wizard in my TyTN - which does not work. It fits perfectly, but all I get is a white screen and somehow it is draining the battery in 1/2 a day. They must have changed something in the display. For now I am only using my phone via voice command to place and receive calls :-(

I ordered a new display from http://stores.ebay.com/hitechhk
They claim as I mentioned to have TyTN displays with generation 1 or 2 although the image says they are displays for O2 mini. I sent a query asking what generation would I need based on photos of my broken display (which looked different than both!). I got a reply that their tech was looking at the pictures to determine which display I need and then got a response that the item shipped - that's communicating across the globe for you... Anyway, my new display is on the way and hopefully it works. I have no idea what they shipped.

I looked at some of the links posted by mikechannon and pof above and these sites seem more B2B (no place to place an order).

Anyway, I'll let you know as soon as it arrives (it shipped 2 days ago) if I'm lucky or not. If so - it's a pretty easy solution. If not...

OK, I am very confused now...
I got my display yesterday from hightechhk - it is not compatible.
Quite frankly, it is identical to my old HTC wizard display and only produces a blank white screen on the TyTN.
Note that this is part number TD028STEB1 and despite the previous mentions that this is TyTN compatible - it is not in my case...

I am back to square one - trying to get an exchange / refund from hightechhk.

Otherwise, my only route will be repair by HTC America (if they take it...).

I just wonder if there is something else wrong and the replacement screen is fine - possibly digitizer. Have you tried a hard reset?

ygeller

I just decided to start my contingency plan - repair by HTC.
This ordeal started by calling HTC America, who forwarded me to HTC UK.
I need apparently to send my phone to the UK for repair...

Anyway, to your question - I dare not try a hard reset yet until I am officially ready to send my phone for repair to HTC. The reason is that I am using the phone via voice command (the display is dead - so no dialing there...). If I hard reset - I can really only answer incoming calls...

Anyway - I'll give it a try before I ship it, although I doubt it will work.

Dcoz
17th January 2007, 05:29 PM
and can only find two places which will repair it, both costing £150!!! ygeller
do you have the number for HTC in the UK thank you very much hope you get the screen fixed.

ygeller
17th January 2007, 06:09 PM
I got these numbers: +44 (0) 8458900079 HTC UK
+44 (0) 1202714530
After talking to someone on the first number I was told to call the repair center:
+44 1 908556464 repair center

The repair center hardly answers - you leave a message and they call you back.

I then went to http://support.htceurope.com and created my own repair request. I got a price estimate which was more like 100 GPB including shipping to the US and 5 days typical turnaround. The website generated the RMA process and claimed to have sent me an email with the return instructions - so far, I have not received the email... unbelievable...

Yes. The price sucks. Then again having paid so much for the phone and not being able to use it sucks more...

MikeChannon

For reference, I now finally see that the part number I am missing is:
60H00056-00M

the part I got from HK (fits the HTC Wizard) is 60H00037-00M
Hence the mismatch.

Searching the "37" part on google yeilds all sorts of results.
Searching for the "56" part yields nothing... to new? :-(

Thank you very much ygeller, you have saved me at least £50 and the turnaround is a lot shorter than the 4 weeks I was quoted somewhere else. The internet is a wonderful place most of the time seriously thanks again! Hope all goes well with yours once you get it back.

Hi!

I have similar problem.

While the charge of battery is over 95% touch screen response me, but later no, rest of device continues working perfectly.

Ygeller, what generation of lcd purchase you?

Ì'm sure that the 1st is not for my device (vodafone v1605 HERM200) but i'm not sure if 2nd will be correct for me.

And if somebody has passed him similar problem and has a solution estaria him very thanked for if me it explained it.

Excuse my bad english.

ygeller

It was neither gen1 or gen2.
The display they sent me was simply incompatible. It was a Wizard screen - not TyTN.
I couldn't find anywhere on the web a replacement part for TyTN, so I sent it for repair by HTC.

Just read through thread - trying to pick up on LCD module suppliers.
It seems there is some confusion as to the type of LCD the HTC Tytn and its various "brother" PDA use. Here is what I found out after some extensive correspondence with a supplier in China:
There are a number of incompatible LCD modules each of which is fitted with its own video controller. The marking (usually) with a big sticker on the ribbon like connector states which type is used.
These are the descriptors to look for and order by:

Samsung - LTP280QV-E01
Toppoly - TD025STEB1
Hitachi - TX0704APAA1

The other codes mentioned in the thread are equivalent:
Hitachi - 60H00056-00m
etc...

In any case if anyone knows where to find the Hitachi I would be very happy!

Hope this sorts the "White Screen" business out...
These screens differ in the controller they need.
HTC has diversified its use of LCD modules probably to cut prices... but it is a pain to fix!

I've been trying to replace my screen and I'm fairly sure I've got the right one... I've already sent one back because it produced a white screen and the supplier checked this time and said they sent part 60H00037-01M which is what I had originally... But I still get a white screen. The new screen doesn't actually have a label with that part number on, but it appears identical and has one small label at the top right that has BL P/N 1891000017 and that is the same as my old screen... So why would I get a white screen?

What was the reason that you were replacing the screen to start with? You may have had another hardware issue, it would help if you gave more info e.g. what you did preceding your problem such as ROM or other types of flashing or if you droped your phone or other types of trauma

Well, believe it or not, I was playing with a boomerang on a beach and it came back so fast that I didn't want to catch it and it smashed into my Tytn. Even though it was in its case, on my hip, the impact was sufficient to dent the case and crack the screen. The screen still worked though, although some areas were greyed out. I got one replacement screen, which only showed a white screen, but at that point, putting my old screen back got the display working, so I sent that screen back for replacement. I've got another one now, with the same problem, but as my old screen now also only shows white and the screen appears to be the correct type, I don't really know where to go from here.

I have had difficulty connecting the screen where you have to push the ribbon in... in the HTC manual it says you have to lift up the white part but I haven't the foggiest how to do that, wish they'd put in one of those clip-in connections. I've had a terrible time trying to push in the ribbon and then push in that black thing (which has now broken in two). I expect that's where the problem lies. I might have to get a new LCM-FPC (whatever that is) I suppose.

As for the part numbers, they aren't on the new screen, as I explained before. Just a small sticker with a different p/n, but identical to my other screen.

if the black thing that you spoke of is broken then you will probably have to replace the cable as there isn't anything to keep presure on the ribbon to make solid contact be very patient on disassembly so as not to damage the inner workings of the phone, one other hint is to make sure that lens adjustment on the back cover is pulled towards the bottom of the phone and that the arm on the camera is also pulled towards the bottom so that when you put the back cover on it will line up properly

Hi, my LCD cracked by placing it on carpet. Support stated it won't be warranteed, that the LCD cracked from behind. I escallated the issue and HTC won't budge, same song and dance. I litterally didn't do anything but put my phone on the floor, pick it up a moment later, tried to use it and found the LCD busted/all scrambled. This is the 2nd LCD from HTC that has cracked on me - each time they blame me instead of recalling the phone due to lack of stability, manufacturer defect, etc. I highly recommend that anyone considering an HTC phone seriously consider other vendors based on support and warrantee. The $800 phone has cost me over $1K...

Hi guys, I think this is my first post... bought a HTC tytn from rogers a few months back...dented the screen the other day and now its like the screen is always being pressed on, the dent is about 1/2-1 mm down...so can i just buy this and replace it?

Its a hermes 200.... I was thinking to take it apart and try to suck the dent out with something, or take off the film on the lcd and try smooth it out...or try to return to dealer and get a refund...what you guys think??

I dented the digitzer beyond repair and found that for my HERM200 HTC Tytn which I bought a few months back had this
part number Hitachi TX0704APAA3

serial 60H00056-00M

I have noticed there are TX0904apaaX where X is 1, 2, or 3, and on my phone its 3 (3rd gen?) but I can only find one in italy/germany/and some suppliers in china who I am waiting to hear back from.

Can I just use the first gen or 2nd gen part (which is available on ebay?) with the same serial and it should work fine in my phone?

Thanks,

You could also just buy a "broken" phone, as long as its not a screen problem that is. I bought a couple of jasjams off ebay that weren't supposed to work but both did. I had faulty camera and 2nd had no problem I could find...
Both cost about the same as a replacement LCD and now I have other spare parts too...

You should look to the color of the flex cable, if it's black, then a second gen screen should work.

http://cgi.benl.ebay.be/HTC-Cingular-8125-8525-Tytn-LCD-screen-Digitizer_W0QQitemZ360033072897QQihZ023QQcategoryZ 10364QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713.m153.l1262

This should be what you are looking for. The serial of my screen was slightly different but also ended with -00M and it works great.

If you need any help let me know.

Be sure to grab yourself a service manual before you attempts this. Also, be sure to make a secure connection with the ribbon cable from the screen... the manual doesn't quite describe that the beige part of the clip lifts open. When you get there you will see what i mean.

Hi everybody.

i cracked my touchscreen 2 weeks ago.

so i have buyed another touchscreen for repairing.
So bad that my tytn is herm200 and it has 2° generation lcd, so the connector is the "tiny" connector, with the 6 tracks. Not the big with only 4 tracks.

i noticed that only the internal 4 are used , so i tried to reconnect the tracks to the new touchscreen, but with no results.

are them definitely incompatible? i must buy herm200 lcd+touch?

many thanks

I still have a screen which I bought new as a replacement for mine. If anyone needs a screen and they paypal me the postage I'll send it on to them... If you get it working paypal me what you think it's worth (it cost me 80 dollars, but I'd be happy to get half that back).

PM me if you're interested

I'm in Jamaica. Are you willing to ship to Jamaica? Do you accept Western Union? The part number for the screen I need is: 60h00037-01m Do you have this?

Hi there,

Just to let you know that the screen was sold a while ago. I moved on to a Touch and as far as I know the user I sold the screen to managed to get his Tytn going with the screen I sold him...

All the best,

mrjuglas

I have a fairly old Dopod 838 Pro which I recently cracked the LCD. I searched ebay for replacement LCD screens and it looks like there are plenty of 60H00037-01M LCD screens. However, I am looking for a 60H00056-00m Hitachi LCD screen. Does anyone know of supplier who has this LCD available?
