Hi All,
I've just been on to tmobile about getting one of there unlimited internet access jobbies for £15/m.. all sounded great then I mentioned it was an o2 xda handset I was planning on using and they informed me that it wouldn't work.. I said well I'm sure I could just flash the mda rom onto it and it would run and they replied with "Voice and texts will work fine but the internet access will definately not work on a htc handset that that originated from o2" Then she said something about the internet settings are not compatible between the two phones..
Surely this is incorrect??
If anyone can shed any light on this please do! (or if you know of any better deals!)

mate it will work if you enable the tmob rom but i doubt it can work as a 02 for texts and calls & as tmob for web,
maybe your answer is flash rom and twin sim holder so you can flip between the two

as long as the Exec is (sim) unlocked, no problem. In fact, I'm using exactly that setup, with the current O2 ROM. You just need to change the GPRS/UMTS settings to
Access Point: general.t-mobile.uk
and iirc, username, password and domain all blank. If you have any problems, PM me or post here.

Thanks for the reply! I think you misunderstood, I don't want o2 on my exec atall .. I just want tmobile with the tmobile web n walk.. they are trying to tell me that I cant which I find hard to believe because at the end of the day its a jasjar the same as the badged up tmobile version.. know what I mean?

I've not unlocked my exec because I was under the impression that o2's badged up jasjar arn't locked to begin with where as tmobiles mda's are.. I will take you up on the pm'ing when my sim card arrives if thats ok! I'm gunna order it now :)

My Uni is o2 Exec too, now with T-Mob sim and working on Web'n'Walk fine.
I belive that if your o2 Exec was baught from o2 on line then it arrived unlocked (as mine did); if bought from high street o2, it came sim locked.

I've had three online (all o2 online business shop), all unlocked. Also, the early high street-bought units were, iirc, unlocked too.

Hmm .. Uh Oh.. Is there anyway to check? I don't have another sim card I can try in it.. Mine was high street bought but it was one of the early ones (or so I believe.. Jan 2006).

Is T-Mobile really offering unlimited internet for the total sum of £15 per month? I've had a look on their website and I can't find this offer! :( Could someone post the link for this offer, sounds too good to be true!
I'm also quite sure I could have been totally oblivious to this offer, so apologies for asking a very obvious question!

Hi there! this offer isn't on there site. I called them and asked what they could do for me ..
sim card only
monthly contract rather than yearly (only tied to 1month each time)
unlimited data (fair use of 3gb/month)
50mins anytime
not bad eh!

I have an o2 xda exec which I bought on Ebay slightly second hand and I am using it on tmobile with a prepay tarrif. All I needed to do was put in the correct settings which I got from here
http://www.manuals.t-mobile.co.uk/start.asp?manual=1217
Just go to the GPRS 3g topic in the 'choose subject box' and they take you through it step by step.
On the prepay tarrif, I get charged a pound for any day when I connect, but there is supposedly no limit during that day. It works great, but maybe I'd be better off at a £15 month tarrif if that's available.
By the way, can I just let people know of this link to google search which reformats all pages for the PDA. It makes a very useful portal:
www.google.com/xhtml
If you don't want to search, but want the pages reformatted for your pda try this one which also works pretty well.
www.google.com/gwt/n?q=
The above url will present you with a box to enter the url you want to visit. After that, all pages will be formatted without frames and made suitable for your screen.

Thanks for your reply! Sounds like a great deal! What number did you ring, and any special tricks for getting them to offer you that deal?
Cheers,

No tricks to get it matey :) just call them on the number on the website. Cant remember what the number is now and the paper I wrote it on is on my desk in the office. Just ask for the following:
Sim Only, Web and walk unlimited internet tarrif thingy. Make sure they dont try and tie you to a 12 month contract as this is a sim only deal with NO PHONE and thats why its so cheap. Best thing about the deal is that its month to month.. so if you decide you don't want it anymore or they change the terms and conditions you can cancel with no 12 month contract to pay off :-)

Just to add to this lot, I tried a T Mobile PAYG sim in my O2 XDA-Exec and it works fine connecting to the net with full UMTS speed, max cost per day is £1 capped according to the chaps card we were messing with.
I have also used a contract T Mobile card in the device and simply works - No Sim Lock on the O2 XDA-Exec, so no messing around put the card in, configure the access names etc and away you go - Mike

That's new!
Only thing is, it'd be more expensive than WnW.
I'm on the £15 a month tariff too - it's actually £7.50 a month, minimum term of a month (not a year!) for 50 minutes each month, with the £7.50 unlimited data WnW add-on.
I use my data all the time and have never been pulled - Push Email, constant RSS feed updating, decent amount of pics on downloads, radio streaming, msn messenging, no limits for me.

you just need to request the sim only 30 day contract (can cancel anytime just give 30 day notice) which is £7.50 a month, then simply ass web n walk £7.50 a month, job done! completley normal tarriff no scams or deals ;)

Thats the £7.50 Per Month Sim Only with 50 Free minutes. Then you can call them to add the £7.50 Web n Walk. It would better to just call and get both at the same time but at least if they are unsure of the deal you can point them to their own link above.

Right, thought I'd summarise my experience - which to be honest has been very strange indeed.
Firstly I checked the t-mobile web site but couldnt find the £15/month offer. The recommendation was then to ring T-mobile and request it directly from an operator. However when I did ring they did not know anything about this offer. This left me a little confused to say the least!
I then checked the web and ordered the £7.50 month sim card monthly contract option. Although I had to do a google search for this to find it on the t-mobile website! Unbelieable.
I received the sim card today (very quick postage!) and registered it on the t-mobile website. Then at this point I had the opportunity to add a data option where I choose the web n walk handset only. I believe this is unlimited data but only on your handset. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Slightly disappointed as I thought I would be able to use it through my PC for £15/month. To be able to do thsi required a different add-on costing £12.50/month, making the total package £20/month.
Well I then thought I'd test the new settings, so put the new sim into my XDA exec, then used the wireless modem option to connect to my PC. And it worked! :) So I'm not sure what benefist the more expensive option would give me? Obviously the top web n walk would give me VOIP, but I dont require this so not too much of an issue.
In a final twist the speed is something of a mystery. I believed the top rated speed to be 384kbps using the XDA exec. Obviously the network supports up to 1.8mbps using HSDPA but since the hardware in the exec doesnt I thought I'd be limited to 384kbps. Well I've just run a few speed tests on numerous different sites, and it ranged from 58kb/s to 123.6kb/s. (I think I have my speeds muddled up in terms of units but I hope you understand what I mean?).
Anyway, as you can tell, all very strange. Feel free to reply if you can place some logic next to these events!
Hope that is of some help and interesting.
