View Full Version : Helmi AKU3.5 for Apache?

On the FTP site I see Helmi_APACHE_AKU3.5_nk.nba_built3.rar - but there is no discussion of this ROM in the forums.
Is it real and working? Or still in development and not yet released?

I've been wondering this myself. Bored at work, guess I'll see if I can flash it now.

xda3nbftool says I've got the wrong password when trying to convert the nba to nbf *sigh*
edit: Found HTC64 Extended ROM Tool and used this instead. I managed to flash the ROM onto my phone, got a Telecom carrier logo and was given a new green splash screen that said "Windows Mobile - Direct Push Technology"...I was excited!
It asked me to calibrate my screen, go through the training crap. It then asked if I wanted to setup an e-mail account, which is definitely a sign of a new AKU and not something bogus. I clicked next (instead of skip) and it froze. I soft reset and skipped the email step, then when it asked me to tap anywhere on the screen, it froze. Probably a driver issue, but I'm new here :P I don't know if this means we're close, but it was looking good for a minute :)

hmm... this rom is for rom maker only, It still under development, and It seems Big is busy right now... btw To make AKU3.5 work with Apache, I need a beta tester...

If you need a beta tester, I'd be glad to help. I don't keep anything on my phone that can't be easily replaced/reinstalled.
I'd also be willing to help with sending ext_rom, files, or anything else that would help.

helmi_c I don't know if you got my pm's from the other day, but if you need someone to test I would be more than happy. Also I tried the copied the gwes.exe.0409.mui from your awesome uni 3.5 rom to my apache to change the status circle screen to the glass one and had no luck with that. After a soft reset it stayed the same. I am using the Telecom aku 2.2 rom.
Thanks,
Mike

I've only done offical ROM updates myself but done my fair share of messing with registry and and extended_rom hacking. I have a Sprint PPC6700 w/ Build 14847.2.0.0 loaded on it.
I do quite a bit of traveling but I'd be glad to help if I can. Feel free to email me.
Thanks for all the hard work.

Mike, can u look at built3 and mod both boot.hv/rgu at xip and change:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\init\BootVars]
"RequireCertMod"=dword:1
and also in the default.hv, I've mod to many of stuff with this apache rom, this rom should faster then any other built exist... but it seems RequireCertMod=dword:1 is needed for some driver to make it load with apache device.

I managed to get it onto my device and get it up a running with a few major issues. I changed the value u posted, flashed it. Got the new splash screen, but it didnt go to the welcome tutorial. It kindof froze for a few secs then loaded. It now loads fine, but when I had tried to use it, the stylus couldnt be used. Due to not being able to calibrate the screen. So I named welcome.exe to autorun and put on my SD, loaded it and calibrated the screen. I can confirm my phone is working, but the start menu has only today and coldinit on it. I think this may be due to the intiflashfiles.dat. But Im not sure, Im still a novice. I see you added the last entries in.... And do u think that is the issue with the start menu? Also after a little messing with things, it freezes and locks up needing a soft reset to fix the issue. This happens, incall, trying to go to the text message box with poutlook, and well just about any other app I have tried. Works fine at first then freezes.....dunno why. Any ideas? I plan on playing with it until I can hopefully get some progress. But THANK YOU SO MUCH for getting us this far. ;)
Regards,
Mike
Edit: Got to looking at the replacing of the boot.rgu and when it trys to delete and replace it isnt, but it is successfully replacing the boot.hv.....this is the error I get...... Any ideas? Could this be the cause of my issues? TIA

U thinking what am I thinkin, It might be, since i delete the boot.rgu, system will not update the boot.rgu contains to registry after first boot, and does also might include its certification update...
try this pack, extract to where buildimgfs exist...
and also, did Certificate Applet on setting empty?

you lost me on this one :D novice remember ;) File was replaced using that pack, flashing now will edit with results. :P
Thanks again,

Edit: Same issues....I noticed that u had already changed the value in that boot.rgu to 1, did u also do the boot.hv or should I have changed that. Also Im using HTC64 tool to rebuild to a nk.nbf, using a nk.prj from a different build of WM......could this be causing my issues? I wouldnt think so myself, but figured I would ask. The values are set as follows in the pic.....

And if need be I can shoot a video of what happens and whats going on if want me too, just let me know. ;) Ive been dying to try out my new video camera.

using a nk.prj from a different built is oke, since they only use standar address for memory location, device ID, etc. the boot.hv is already changed.
Start >> Settings >> SYstem >> Certificates >> Root ? is it empty?
check ur pm...:)

Ok I kindof thought thats what u meant, but see thats the thing my whole start menu will not load. It just displays Today and Coldinit, nothing else. I have seen this issue before when I was editing my initflashfiles.dat and didnt hex edit after I edited with notepad. But I checked ur init.dat and it seemed to be fine/perfect. Reading PM now and gonna see what happens soon. Ill keep ya posted.

Can you please tell me how to encrypt this nk.nba file to a nbf file to I can flash it into my 6700. This part is really confusing me and I'd really like to get this done. Also is the image crossbow or am I assuming something incorrectly?
Thanks,

You just need to put your PPC in boot loader mode then attach via USB and run the exe.
Also I'd remove the config.txt from your ext ROM and load the files manually.
There is some info on PPCGeeks.com

I have ported AKU 3.5 to work on the Apache using some help from Helmi_c (and others) and the ROM kitchen concept. There is only one major problem at this point: the USB is not recognized (charging does work though). I had activesync issues anyway and have ways around transferring contacts and files though. You can check it out at PPCGeeks.com

Hello,
Not sure if anyone here as tried but 3.5 doesn't work with Live Search currently. You can run live search but even with .net CF 2.1 it still crashes when trying to choose a contact for a destination or location. Contacts and calendar work fine, it is choosing a contact from within Live Search that doesn't work. WHen you go to change a destination and choose a contact from within live search, you get - "sorry, an error has occurred and the application needs to close". Tried it with just .net 1 included with the 3.5 update, tried it with .net 2 cf, tried it with .net 2.1 and nothing else - still doesn't work.

vzg aku 3.5 Beta2 is now available for public testing. It hasn't been tested on non-verizon yet, so please post here or on ppcgeeks.com with results including your carrier.
It is very important that you hard reset after successfully flashing this rom.
I built this rom for Verizon but it will most likely work for everyone. You can change the bootup splash screen with the tools found on this site if you don't like my custom one.
It is important that you leave the original skin and do not install any dialpad skins if you use smart dialing. You can of course change your wallpaper.
Thanks go to Helmi for the original port to apache, ImCokeMan for continuing his work on the port and to Wideawake for hosting ppcgeeks.com and making the guides and tools available to make this rom possible.
Enjoy.

Help - tried to run 3.5, 3.5 r3,3.5r2 & 3.3 ROM now PPC won't load!!!
Any one can provide a link to help, trying to find one but no luck so far.
I have a PPC 6700 from Bell Canada, I did not realize using the 3.3 was a problem, it gave me an invalid country code and stop the install but when I rebooted it stops at the Boot screen.
Hard Reset does not help.
