Herewith an email I have just received from the HTC Europe.
"Hello
HTC Europe are releasing a ROM update for the HTC TyTN (expected release date end of January 2007).
The ROM will be posted in the support section of the HTC Europe website.
This ROM update resolves all known issues with the HTC TyTN."
Yours sincerely

Man this is good news and we will at last know in which direction HTC is moving. Just patching problems with the existing software or patches and real development. It's the moment of truth!
Roll on end January.
I believe that the upgrade will be AKU 3.? and that "WM5 second edition" will form the nucleus of this upgrade.
It looks like Microsoft is comming to the party!

Have to wait and see. I'm sceptical about HTC these days. My tytn doesn't work like it should be and like i want it.
Did send two mails to HTC and received one back. One mail was redirected to my local distributor and was also waiting and disappointed about HTC for ROM updates.
My other mail was send directly to HTC and nada responce. shame on you HTC.
Have my device for more then five months and now they are releasing out of the blue a ROM update, gonna be a update of disappointment. It doesn't gonna fix that much. ( !!! bluetooth > carkits!! and speed !!!).
Let's hope.

Dear CALLSERVICE@HTC.com , you're fired! :)
In a company "promishing" is "fried air selling" as we say in Italy.
You will buy "fried air"? Yes, when it will be available, practically NEVER
In the management schools they suggest, when you want to talk about future, to say a deadline of your statement. If you want to make marketing campaign use "rumors", on-line "stolen" (not really) ROM test.
This is IMO another example of joung (and confused) company growing up too fast for his management.
So I suggest to believe to this "end of the month fix", with ALL KNOWN ISSUES FIXED :) when we will see it flashed in our phones; if you search in this forum we are full of "next month" upgrade.
Latins... are always valuable "spes, ultima Dea..." means "Hope is the last God remaining at our side". So the lesson learned from this HTC customer care could be... the TyTans are defeated but Spes (Hope) is still with us. Hey HTC, do you know that Hermes is the God of the robbers?
:Mode Happy new year ON:
Also Hermes tortured TyTan (owners?); Zeus (HTC) sends Hermes to confront the enchained Titan (Our phone)Prometheus about a prophecy of the Titan's (owners) that Zeus (HTC) would be overthrown (From Nokia? From Motorola?). Hermes scolds Prometheus for being unreasonable and willing to endure torture, but Prometheus refuses to give him details about the prophecy ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermes )
I've understood at least wy they called HERMES the TyTn, it was a prophecy, we will be tortured!

As I was in contact with them about issues on my TyTn, I believe this will be an update from HTC for their TyTn branded phone. I guess the other operators will follow with their own ROM updates, based on this one. ?????
We will have to wait and see what AKU version will be used but I predict it will be 2.6 - but hey maybe we get lucky! I doubt if the ROM will be much different to the one released in the RSA. Bootloader 1.9!
I still think their service is poor as HTC has taken more than 6 months to notify us of an update, knowing that their phone was buggy.
On service alone they should not have had the TyTN named "Phone of the year - 2006" ( Check htc.com website)

I think you're shooting too low with your AKU prediction. I'm going on record as predicting it'll be at least AKU 3.2... My rational is that to "fix all bugs" will require a massive BT stack improvement. M$ didnt' release these improvements until AKU 3.0

I think they could made a bigger effort than a 2.6 AKU, and may be they will, having a look to the only frightening number for a CEO: revenue trends!
Look here: http://www.htc.com/investor_service/04-investor-1.htm
They have this year many different devices compared with 2005, they have a new strategy (HTC directly involved instead of I-Mate, QTEK) and november revenues, compared to last year revenues....
I hope today is happening what I was hoping: they will listen the stakeholders (we) only when the shareholders (they have Nokia phones :) ) will notice some warning from analysts.
At that time we will have our 3.2 AKU for TyTn, or may be we will have even Crossbow (not as a gift I'm afraid)

I had mailed HTC asking particularly about the ROM update, and I too was told that they are planning for one for the end of Jan. So lets hope come end of Jan. the ROM is actually available and easily accessible to all the device owners. HTC should work on their CS as it is the main manufacturer of WM devices, with the Apple's phone just around the corner, with this kind of support WM would not even stand a chance.

Would HTC also provide a ROM for the Cingular 8525 or would CIngular be responsible for providing that? I recall seeing a link to a Cingular ROM on the HTC site at one point so i wasnt 100% sure.
If they could sort out the Bluetooth issues and at least get VC 1.6 working as its supposed to (and with my acura) that would a huge win imo.

Well, as we all know, somewhere is a crossbow update for the hermes. So i could imagine that the upcoming update is the long-expected crossbow version. but i could be wrong...
Dukas

I don't believe it's a crossbow or that a crossbow will available officially ever.
The only available crossbow, currently, are using the Hermes as testing platfom and not as final patform.

Sleuth 255 you are correct in you assumptions.
See my edited version of my first post on this thread.(latest information to hand)
I wonder if this has not been the reason for the late, long awaited stereo bluetooth headphones from HTC.
I followed your mods and now I am very happy with my Nokia HS-12W. I still get occasional skips, but I think the cause could be signal interference. The range is still a problem though. Sound virtually as good as my IPod and Zen Vision.
Thanks again

@basilrsa:
Yeah, I got some recent information that pretty much confirmed my prediction as well. However, it looks like the radio will be protected from upgrades in much the same way the SoftBank X01HT radio is. HTC is going with this same radio bootloader in all new releases it would appear. What this means is that we won't be able to crossgrade to other radios with the 1.04 bootloader solution FTTB.

I heard that the operating system will be WM5 second edition, but I noticed a post elsewhere on the forum that a Chinese Dopod version will have WM6 embedded. So at least we can assume that it will be a major upgrade from Microsoft.
I believe that the bootloader will be 1.9 as now used on the latest ROM's.
Yes I agree that they are trying to stop ROM crossgrades, especially on the radio side. This is a logical move if you think about it as the different Network Operators around the world have different requirements and swopping swopping ROM's does not always improve the quality of their services. I know our local distributor in RSA will be optimizing the ROM's to suite our local Cellphone Networks. They obviously have the code to perform these software upgrades to the operating system.
Vodacom our main network operator is already taking about HUPDA - the next step up from HSPDA. (and much faster)
I guess this is all in preparation for the World Soccer Cup that we will host in 2010.

I just got my Tytn back from service and they stated there was no upgrade available yet for it.
I'm sure my operator Three wants to see a big upgrade for Tytn as it is now you can not use their portal as streaming video and audio is not working now, which means no extra income for the operator.

My TyTN had the problems they knew abouit since i bought it just after launch (august last year). Since flashing the ROM in my sig its been just BRILLIANT! How come people arent going for these ROMs instead?! Theres no way i would have waited for HTC to pull out thier fingers and genuinly release one.
Infact i emailed HTC a few days ago about it and was told (in three seperate replies LOL) March, Q1 and Early January for the ROM release. So looks like they dont know either!
Worth giving them a break though since they do the ROMs for the branded units first (O2, Tmobile, Voda etc...). For a first attempt at thier own brand its goin quite well afaik.

You will get SPL-1.09 which is not downgradable, so read the Wiki if you are gonna upgrade! If your device is SuperCID you can upgrade to SA 1.35, get the SPL-1.09 but than you can downgrade with SPL-1.01MFG and stick with this bootloader or upgrade to 1.04 if you want it...but be sure your device is SuperCID!

I wrote a mail to HTC Europe regarding the update. That is the answer I got Feb. 19th:
Good Morning,
There have been no updates for the TyTN as of yet. We expect the first to be available within the next few weeks. As to whether or not this will be AKU3.3 or not I cannot say. We have not been informed of the full contents of the ROM update by our engineers. Once it is available, the update should be ready for download from the HTC website. A new section will appear containg the ROM updates once they are released.
Thank you for your enquiry, Should you have any other problem, please do not hesitate to call us. Your Local number can be found at http://www.europe.htc.com/support/cs_by_phone.html

I used to look forward to the day HTC Europe released an updated rom for my Tytn (Hermes 200) since I bought my Tytn back in October on a pre-order, but I honestly could not care less anymore, I think anything they release now is too little too late, and they have taken the p**s out of their customers. Why worry when you have all the wonderful rom and radio development going on with this site. I currently run on XDA Live 0.10 (Crossbow) which runs like a dream in unison with the 1.35 radio version, and cannot wait until tomorrow when the 0.20 version is out. So read this and weep HTC Europe!

Why would they weep? XDA Live is doing their job through no cost of their own. Your reaction is exactly what they want, it reassures them in thinking there is no need to invest any more money in ROM upgrade for the TyTN. What better news could there be for them?

Yep :( and that is why they sold us the hardware way too expensive :(
It was my first HTC device, and I still think it may be the last, XDA is doing most of the development, if this website didn't exist I would still be on the buggy 1.18.
So they may think this is cheap for them, but next time I will buy my device somewhere else

Why is my reaction what they want? Why should I care, they have done nothing but give out false hope about rom updates and as the previous poster said we paid through the nose for our devices in the first place. This site has done more for my Tytn than they ever have, so stuff HTC.

You are misunderstanding my point, which is the fact that I paid out nearly £500 for a pre-ordered Tytn with an early rom installed, and they have not once issued a rom update for it knowing that there are problems. You can see by my previous posts that I have nothing but praise for this site and the way developers can make upgrades available for our devices from the meagre roms that HTC release. I am bitter because we have been promised so much from HTC and they have given so little, they do not mind taking my money but do not give a hoot about customer care. So I still say stuff HTC!

I agree, and will look for better support next time I buy a phone.
So on the short term this is cheaper for HTC, but on the long term they will lose customers.
But the WM6 rom makes a lot good, don't get me wrong, I like this phone, but I hate the lack of custome support from HTC.
I got my phone august 2006 and still no rom update from them :(
The least they could have done was posting the 1.35 rom.

I was told today that to get a upgrade of my rom to whatever version they are doing, I would have to send it to MK.

Suck it and see, but if I am not wrong is all they will give you will be the South African WM5 rom and radio that has been available on this site for a while! :)

Yep - they told me the same thing - madness! Anyway, once you've had it done, it might be in interesting if you could rip the firmware and post it for those of us that don't live close by..... Be interesting to check if it's actually the same as Leaf's SA rom.

Bollocks to that - their software and customer services might be crap but the phones are great - but the support and software upgrades I get here easily make up for that and I'm not going to cut my nose off to spite my face...
I understand the sentiment though and feel sorry for people who haven't found this site - THEY are the ones who suffer the most at the hands of HTC crap support

The Official HTC TyTN upgrade has appeared on the european website...unfortunately for those with operator branded devices you can't have the software...and you have to create an eClub membership and register the phone...operator branded phones cannot be registered.

I just registered my TyTN (branded TMN, a major Portuguese mobile Operator) and I'm currently downloading the upgrade with my slow UMTS connection.
I suppose that if they let me come this far I should be able to upgrade...
Would I still get warranty support if I install official HTC upgarde?

I can now download the software from the European site!
Bummer I can only download the WWE version. But it is the same as we could download a week ago on XDA_developers, hahahahaha.
Great work HTC!:D
