Anyone had to reset their XDA Orbit?

I had a nightmare when using IGO2006 GS software, with it wiping some boot OS files and leaving it with a whitescreen on bootup (WSOD). Had to reset (did a few times after testing IGO), but just wondered if there is a consequence to resetting the Orbit.

One thing I now notice is that during boot sequence between first blue screen to the second green windows logo there is a white screen flash for half a second. Cant remember if this was there from new?

Thoughts?

That was normal with my orbit too - then i did a hard reset - soft reset before the o2 extras installed and now it boots faster, i have more program memory and no white flash. I thought it was unusual too but its due to those o2 plugins. btw o2 settings are still kept without the o2 extras.

Sorry Mark, confused, the O2 extras get installed on hard reset anyway dont they? it ran an O2.cab first boot after the reset....not sure if you are saying yours is faster before the hard reset or after ?

They install just as the hard reset is finishing - with a 3 sec timer - place stylus in soft reset hole before timer expires and the extras wont install.
Mine is faster after the hard reset i.e. without the extras.

I dont get any white screens flicker at all - its the same as my wizard but the boot time is MUCH faster - overclocking helps this.

I have not installed any of o2 plus - it is no use to me - i have better profiler etc.. The components of o2 plus can be broken down so if you just wanted one bit - a new cab can be made.

Sorry to be a pain, last question (i think), if I reset again I would first like a simple way to restore all my connection settings - is there a connections/wireless/msg settings backup tool to do this?

PS I am using vodafone services hense o2 not a need for me either

There are a number of vodafone settings cabs on the forum - but if i was you just to be safe i would write down your settings before doing the reset. How did you get the settings in the first place? and no bother i am cruising and sorting out the forum.

Where you from? The cab does not need to be artemis specific as the operator settings are universal.

This is the o2 extra stuff - all in the external rom - ftp://xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Artemis/Extended_ROMs/O2_Orbit_UK_1.25.206.101_extended_rom.zip

Download it and keep it safe.

It also contains the o2 dialer - i prefer the stock one, the o2 web page, the o2 tray, the only good thing is the o2 theme! lol

Just done the hard reset (reload os) as discussed and the soft reset before the o2 install starts. All seems fine, still have the white screen come up on a soft reset, this is after the blue o2 logo screen and before the green MS screen.

Also when the keyboard is in locked mode and I turn the screen off and then back on I get a slow screen refresh that is white to start with and fills in quickly.

Odd really.

Well the white screen appears for a couple of milliseconds as the images change over - that is normal for all devices

Thanks, all working anyway and without the o2 trimmings, the vodafone cab seems not to work out of the box, need to make a few changes to get gprs working tool.

Does it boot any faster and you should have more available program memory now. Cab - duh! that's why I always write settings down manually - you can't trust them.

Seems ok, some performance improvement - not loaded other tools yet - be interesting to see how my gps tools perform.

Vodafone settings are here too:-
