So here it goes;

I just bought a water-damaged M600 from ebay for ( hopefully ) a rather cheap £41.

Now, according to the listing (as I haven't received the device yet) it doesn't switch on. Is this a bad buy or it it simply a case of dismantling it and ensuring all is dry and it'll be OK?

An ex of mine dropped her phone in the bath a few years ago and that was fine after it had dried out, just hoping this will have a similar outcome...

Well....that depends on the extent of the damage caused :) I would'nt bet on it being usable again....other than being an expensive sleek looking paperweight...but you never know..I hope you get lucky

Cannot say in advance. Since there is not telling what was damaged (or not) during being wet... Also depends on the sort of water (clean water or dirty water or salt water etc).

I read somewhere that if it was 'dirty' water then it's a good idea to 'clean' it with clean water...

Not sure but have to see when it arrives :)

Ok, received my M600 today had a bit of a fiddle around and it works :)

The only problem I have is that albeit being an Orange fone with my Orange SIM in it, it only manages to pick up Vodafone and T-Mobile in an area where I can normally get a good Orange signal.

Any ideas? Update radio? Is radio weaker in this compared to other fones?

It appears to be a G4 version (IPL, SPL end in .001) so I can't CID unlock it but CAN I update the Radio?

Is it blocked on Orange? Maybe it's been subject to insurance claim so Orange would have blocked the IMEI.

That's the impression that I got too... :(

Emailed the seller asking whether it had been stolen or had an insurance claim made against it. He said no. I rang Orange to check if it had been blacklisted, which they confirmed it hadn't.

So good news and bad news....think radio may be buggered!

Although it is a G4 model, can I apply a WWE ROM to it? Qtek or I-Mate?

I know I'm clutching at straws but it might fix it. Might do......

I've put a WWE (no-vendor ID) rom on my G4 S200: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=264507&highlight=no+vendor+id+dopod

Guess its a bit old now though... Check out the newer ones :)

Thanks whizz, put Jesters ROM on it.

All went fine.

Radio still no good though :(

Looked at HTC repairs and because it's water damaged they say it can't be repaired either...

But how the hell could this be... you have signal from other networks but not from yours? wierd... just think how can it all work well for the other networks if it doesn't for yours?

Consider updating just the radio rom...

I did upgrade the Radio ROM initially to the one on the FTP as I did get a very strong Orange signal whilst out but my girlfriend tried to ring me and got put though to voicemail and I couldn't make outgoing calls (although it did show the G to indicate GPRS coverage?! Weird!).

Unsure as to how it works with other networks as it is still locked to Orange. However I work in the centre of Leicester and it struggles to get signal of any type when manually searching for networks.

water usually = paperweight, as most of the passive components are water soluble, so even if it does work it will probably be unreliable, sounds like the water has got in to the radio section, its not all bad tho, if the screen is good you'll make money selling as spares (screen/case /battery) :)
