View Full Version : WM6 rom for wizard?
newbie2
25th February 2007, 05:52 PM
I'm running the Underground Crossbow on my unlocked Wizard. Works BEAUTIFULLY!! No glitches, as of yet.
Also paired with my OnCourse navigational BT GPS receiver without a hitch.
If the pre-release "leaks" of WM6 are THIS good, who knows what the final, OFFICIAL release will bring?!?!? It blows WM5 out of the water!!! :D

I hope someone can shed some light on my situation.
I upgraded my I-mate K-Jam to WM6 Underground Edition, and although it worked upon first boot, I noticed a couple little issues with it being slow, and I couldnt dial out or anything along that line.
I restarted the phone, and now it is currently stuck at the boot screen and after a minute it just goes white and blanks out. I have tried a soft reset, and a hard reset and neither seems to do the trick. I am currently at the point where just getting my phone to work would be great.
Furthermore, I CID Unlocked it using LOKIWIZ prior to upgrading the ROM.
IPL. 1.01
SPL. 1.01.0000 < is that an issue?
OS 10.1.811
Did I brick my phone somehow?
Thanks for your help!

i've been away for a few weeks running with pdaviet 4, quite nifty. but what is this talk about WM6 underground edition? is this a post-pdaviet4 release? is there any/many differences?
the only reason i'm even considering a change for pdaviet4 is because OMAPclockv.2 wont hold an overclock for more than half an hour. the OS is a tad sluggish in the messaging program (appropriately with some new funcationality) but when it runs at 228+mhz its zippy!
anyhow anyone care to share a link ;)

I've been using the Underground edition for over a week or two now. It's the first time I've seen new software from MS actually speed up an older device. If one looks at the new HTC offerings on www.htc.com, one finds that many of the new devices use the same processor found in the Wizard - the TI OMAP 200 Mhz. It appears that WM6 is ideal for these devices. It makes them seem as fast as a 400 Mhz device (I still use a Blue Angel as well as my Wizard). I have over 2200 contacts in my address book (I'm really not that popular, I'm just too lazy to weed out the old ones.) With WM5, the contacts window took a long time to appear after clicking. With WM6, it's almost instantaneous.
Using the 2.19.11 Radio, the battery seems to last me through the day. There's a couple things I've seen. First, Windows Media Play turns off when the device is turned off. (My Blue Angel does this too and I don't like it). With previous ROMs, Windows Media Player stayed even when the device was turned off so one could listen to music with the rest of the device off.
Also, I'd like to see a battery icon and the memory icon in the bottom tray so I can see the battery level and turn off programs still running without going through three menus.
MS has really done a great job on WM6. I hope HTC and MS offer WM6 for the Hermes.

Does Magic Button work on WM6? If so, use that and you get to see current running apps in the top bar of your screen, and you can close them from there (plus the X actually starts closing apps too and not leaving them in the background).

I'm succeded too in installing the Crossbow Underground edition (found with torrent search, btw...) in my G4 cid locked device using the Shell tool_bugfixed from the forum and
.... WOW! my device now reboot in few seconds and its very very faster than before. I completely agree with rambo6:
It appears that WM6 is ideal for these devices.
By now, I have found only 1 problem:
- using the camera and switching between different modes (camera, video, mms, etc.) brings this error pop-up while selecting picture themes:
"Unable to enter the Pictur Theme mode.
the selected template is missing or invalid.
36001:107:100"
Anyway to fix it? Should I install some Picture Theme packages?

sorry for double post with other thread... but this is useful (for french speakers of course)...
If you want to have the following with Windows Mobile 6 :
-french keyboard including accentuated character : 'é' 'è' 'ê' etc.
-french dictionnary word completion
just install the attached cab.
Normally the cab would also change the onscreen keyboard to french... but it doesn't... Maybe other registry keys are modified for wm5 and don't work with wm6... surely the cab should be fixed.
I'm not the author of this cab and don't know what it does... I think it comes from a guy called 'seb' from this forum : qtek9100.forum-pro.net
Anyway : nice job many thanks to him !
PS : if you know a good onscreen keyboard freeware that works with a french layout on wm6, please let me know.
Is there anything like this for italian language?

With each versions : Crossbow, Pdaviet4 etc...

so which is better? the underground crossbow rom or faria's 3.3 rom?
I've tried both Faria's 3.3. and the Underground Edition WM6. Faria's ROM is fantastic. I tried the one with the 8 page pool. It was the best WM5 ROM so far. Not only was it stable, but he really put some neat features in it. For example, I liked the battery icon and the memory icon in the bottom tray. It was quite fast and needed little modification. The only problem I had was that using MS Voice Command 1.6, it hesitated a bit. If I was a newbie, I may suggest the Faria ROM over the WM6.
As good as the Faria's 3.3 is, I still prefer the Underground WM6. As I've mentioned in other places, the WM6 is quite a bit faster. It seems to respond very quickly and has a great look and feel. Here's are some problems I've encountered with UE WM6 and how I resolved them.
First of all, I would download not only the UE WM6 ROM, but also the Arcsoft MMS .cab that goes with it. I would also download the appropriate Radio Only ROM from the FTP site - ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Wizard/Radio_Roms/Radio_Only_Thread/. (I used the T-Mobile UK 2.19.11 ROM even though I'm in the US because others were using it. I've also used the Cingular 2.25.11 with other ROMS and it works great also.)
The 2.19.11 ROM seems to drain battery less that's why you may want to use it. Also the MMS .cab is needed to make the MMS work right. So flash the UE WM6 ROM first. Then flash the Radio Only ROM of your choice. Then, put the Arcsoft MMS .cab file on your device or storge card and just click it. I also had to use the attached T-Mobile Internet Settings .cab to make the MMS work. I tried keying in the settings but it just wouldn't work.
After you flash the Radio Only ROM, give it a few days for the battery drain to subside. For some reason it takes a few days (charges) to get where it needs to go. I've found this with other ROMs also. If you still have problem, you can try some of the other battery drain settings found in this Xda site.
You cannot use Activesync 4.2 with WM6 so you'll have to use Activesync 4.5 Beta. It's on microsoft's site. It works well, but if you also sync another WM5 device to your PC, you may encounter some problem with syncing with an exchange server. There is a work around I found that works.
Though the Faria ROM is excellent and the best WM5 ROM, UE WM6 is better and faster. It's worth the effort.

Hi,
Forgive me, I'm a newbie, but in big trouble, so it's possible that I'm asking in the wrong thread.
So. I tried to upgrade my Wizard's (G3) ROM, but at 95% I got an error saying there's problem with the connection, although I didn't touch anything meanwhile:p The restoration process wasn't successful, the only thing I have now, is the three-color start screen, RUU , IPL and SPL both 1.10, and USB if plugged in. I tried to run the update utility with other roms, some of them doesn't even start the upgrade process, others hang up at 95%, as the WM6.
Whan can I do to save the situation beside praying? :(

I have been there...
The only way to fix it is to pull out the battery and a the rainbow screen screen you need to use the default ROM for your carrier. Like i lad to down load a T-Mobile 2.26 ROM and run it. it will fix it. have patience... it does get stuck but the default rom will bring you PDA to file. then if you want to install a different ROM my suggestion is to powercycle your before you try to upgrade it.

Go back and follow Dr. P's thread EXACTLY and do EVERY STEP. You should not be trying to flash any advanced ROM with an IPL and/or SPL that is not 2.x (preferably you should be on 2.26, so go grab the TMobile Ship ROM).
People seem to think that flashing the TMobil (or similar) 2.x ROM is an unnecessary step, but this HAS to be done. This is how people brick their devices...

Recommended upgrades for a clean and fast wm6 are (all on xda ftp server):
YBS Ringtone Manager.cab
faria3.3camera.rar
TaskMgr.exe for camera.reg
tnetwln.zip with wpa2 etc.
WM6_VC_BT_Fix.cab voice command bluetooth fix
HTC_SoftKeyChanger.cab
ARCSoft Inc MMS Composer 3.0.7.19.cab
GB-SOFT Tweak.CAB for gprs optimizing
HTC_X-Button.cab really closes apps
registrywizard_ppc.armv4_430.cab for speed optimizing
omapclock in combination with smartskey
guys, trying to find this WM6_VC_BT_Fix.cab voice command bluetooth fix but unsuccessfully :(

Hi,
yesterday, as instructions which I have read on this marvellous forum, I have downloaded T-mobile rom and succesfully installed it, after i have installed the most beautiful rom, but spl and ipl are 2.21 not 2.26. It is a problem?

I've heard others running on 2.21. As long as you are on 2.x of some type you should be ok. But personally, I think being on the latest official IPL/SPL is probably best (but like I said, others have posted running on 2.21).

Hi, thanks for the answer. :) Effectively, the device work very fine with these ipl/spl. However, how can I install only the ipl/spl without re-installing another full rom, then re-installing MB rom, then reconfiguring and resintalling all in the device ...? Is possible?
I not know why, but, yesterday, I had followed the instructions in the link found in the tutorial post for upgrading the Wizard, I had followed the links to files too, I have downloaded the rom from Tmobile home page(seem the last), nevertheless now I have old ipl/spl. ???

I'm not aware of how you can update IPL/SPL without installing a full ROM (always good to have a stable base anyway). If 2.21 is working for you, then stick with it if you don't mind. You could always use spb backup to take a backup of your stuff, then grab the 2.26 TMobile ROM and reflash (making sure IPL/SPL change), then reflash the WM6 ROM you are using, then restore from backup. Sort of up to you if you want to go through that or not. I'll let others comment if there is another way to upgrade just IPL/SPL, or if this is even necessary.

Hi,
yes, 2.21 working well.
Sincerely, I have one Qtek 9000 too, but this 9100 with MB rom is more fast and more stable! I think: the 9000 is a Intel Bullverde 527MHz, 9100 is only a samsung omap 195MHz.
Who have developed the MB rom is a God! Or 9100 is a better device? :o)

Hey guys, if you guys have any answers or can help with any of these issues please help. I have installed both MB version and Underground, and its hard for me to decide which one to keep.
One thing I noticed for th MB version (havent tested it with underground) is that the volume sliding bar on the side of the phone only works when on the today screen. In any other menu, it works like an up and down arrow (very annoying)
MB cons:
-Scroll bars are WAY too thin and small (any way to fix this to normal? Underground has normal scroll bars)
-After sending a text message, a notification comes up saying "text message sent", and although "request delivery notifications" is UNCHECKED, I still keep getting the message. There is no option under sound/notication settings to turn this off either.
-The time is in military format instead of standard
Underground:
-there are jumbled characters in the sound/notification settings (though I found a cab file that supposedly fixes this; will have to test it out)
-MOST annoyingly, the Day and Date are separated onto two separate lines, rather than reading across in ONE line. LVMtime is NOT the solution to this b/c it has a windows mobile 5 icon and it sloppily overlays the time on the upper bar of your phone.
And for BOTH of them, they both EAT UP BATTERY LIFE like CRAZY! I've tried some battery cab tweaks, but they didn't help substantially.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Get rid of Smartskey or change the .ini file for it and that may fix this issue.

There is a registry fix for this. Don't have it offhand, but if you look in the MBE thread, the fix is mentioned in there (and elsewhere in these forums).

Again, these are registry fixes. Sorry, don't have where they are at offhand, but they are both fixable.

LVM Time can be configured NOT to show the time in the upper bar (thats what I've done as you are right, its done sloppily. Someone else this morning in one of the WM6 topics posted a registry fix to do single line.
And for BOTH of them, they both EAT UP BATTERY LIFE like CRAZY! I've tried some battery cab tweaks, but they didn't help substantially.
For me, the CAB provided by Dr. P in the thread on battery life made a HUGE difference. I see almost no difference in battery life now compared to my original CIngular 2.25 ROM.

I actually just stumbled on this...
Start->Settings->System->Regional Settings->Time
Change the time settings so it starts with a lowercase h (there is a scroll bar on the dropdown!). Uppercase H is military. Lowercase is not.

I officially want to keep the Underground rom, as it seems less "buggy". But if the MB rom uses LVMtime also, isn't there any way to transpose the same thing onto the underground rom? A cab file perhaps? Or does anyone have the newest version of LVMtime for WM6?

what rom is better? (faster and stable) ???
mUn_aRTM_10_2_0_8_WWE
Wm6 - most beautiful edition
faria - 2.18.0.0 WM6
Most Beautiful Edition - I ran on this for a week and it was a good ROM, BUT it takes a lot of tweaking at the front to get it that way. Out of the box its slow, consumes tons of battery, and had numerous issues. I never could get WiFi to work (or work reliably). Overall its a nice ROM once you tweak it out. It was stable for me.
Faria "the real thing" - I had it on for 24 hours or so and its a good rom right out of the box. Seemed to hold the battery well and all. It comes wth a lot of stuff built into it, and it to me it was a very nice ROM. Some have reported issues installing on G4, and there have been some quirks that people are running into (but I didn't experience those, but didn't run it all that long either).
mUn aRTM - I just installed this last night so I haven't had it on my phone for 24 hours yet. This is a fast rom (fastest of the three), and so far very good on battery drain (ie: battery lasts a long time). I've run into a couple of quirks (phone hangs on a soft reboot on the last screen if USB cable is plugged in), and I just had a lockup, but I don't know if thats the rom itself, or the fact I put Battery Status 1.04 Beta on (this same version causes the MBE rom to have lockups so I suspect it to be the problem and will move back down to .04.200 version which ran well on MBE). This is a clean rom (so not much on it) so you have lots of memory to work with and will have to load it with what you want.
Faria and mUn are better than MBE (IMO) but then they've only been out for a few days so I'm sure there is stuff to wring out. I'm liking the mUn ROM, but it still feels like MBE (ie: its a port of a leaked WM6, so there are some quirks in it). The Faria ROM to me felt more solid, but again, others have hit issues with it too (but not sre if thats due to how they did the upgrade or what (ie: not going back to an official ROM before flashing it).
I'll proably stay with mUn's for now, but when Faria comes out with the Vanilla version, I'll probably move to that one as I think thats going to be sweet and very fast.

I have been using this rom for about a day now. It *is* very fast and seems relatively stable, although I have had some freezes.
Here are some problems I've seen thus far:
1) No daylight savings time so it is stuck on standard time (PST). The posted Microsoft updates for DST don't appear to work on this WM6.
2) It had a lot of trouble recognizing the t-mobile network at first. It booted up showing Cingular, and working, although it had to be talking to t-mobile. It also froze several time when trying to find a network (at first). Now that it is set for a network (the same) this part works fine.
3) Some remote desktop options send it into neverland. So does playing with the phone network selection. JUst have to reboot until it works, set network selection to manual and leave this alone.
4) I've had it freeze on some net accesses, but don't have enough experience to identify necessary and/or sufficient conditions to trigger this. Also some freezing when trying some operations in pocket mechanic and, perhaps, sktools.
Main show stopper for use at the moment is daylight savings time. A fix would be greatly appreciated.
Also, the rapidshare link page doesn't seem to be working now (tried to check it to see if any updates.
Regards & thanks for the nice rom. dan

can anyone explain me why sometimes wen im on wifi.. Windows Live Messenger trys to connect it tries to use GPRS instead of the wifi.. anyone having this problem?
I've got the same issue. I can cancel the attempts to connect to GPRS (need to do that at least twice) and then it connects through wifi.
If someone knows the solution I also would like to know what that is.
it is the way M$ designed it...they claim it helps battery life...it could not possibly be to make more money off of people by making them use GPRS ;)
I turn off my phone sometime to make it connect via WiFi but faria said in his aku 3.3 ROM he pacaged it so it did not do it...I am trying to find out how to take windows live out of there and install it on WM6?!? but i don't know how I would go about that so if anyone could help please let me know...thanks for reading

I know we're not allowed to post direct DL links for these WM6 roms, but I'm having a difficult time finding them. Some people on here are trying out all of them so they must exist. I just put on Molski's latest ROM off of his site. (I love his work by the way.) But that is not considered WM6 right? Any tips on where I should search for these, I've been searching google and torrent sites. Thanks.

Read the Wiki and every Sticky in the Wizard Upgrading and this forum. If you have further questions then read them all again. If you still have questions, then ask the specific thing you don't understand.
All the steps and information is already here for your taking. But you have to do some work yourself to learn this stuff. Otherwise you will attempt it, fail and be back panicked with a phone that doesn't work. So please read and learn before you attempt any of this.

I've tried several of the WM6 roms mentioned in this forum (Vanilla, XPlorer) that are out there and followed the instructions in the sticky (as far as I can tell). I can successfully flash, but when my K-JAM restarts, it is still WM5. Is there something I am doing wrong?

I have installed this WM6 rom on my Wizard: PDAMobiz_Wizard_WM6_G3_Xplore_Final_by_Hong.rar
The problem that I have is that my Wizard is now very very very slow. It take's about 5 to 10 seconds to open things like the communication manager. Can someone tell me if this rom is to heavy for my Wizard? (together with this rom there are so many installed apps) It runs now at 273Mhz.
And if I want to update my device to an other WM6 ROM, is it better to go back to the T-mobile 2.26 rom?
My IPL/SPL is (of course) 2.26

Yeah, Hong takes most of the roms here and then packs them full of PDAMOBIZ stuff and releases them like this. I agree with you, but actually you should be glad he puts "by Hong" as people know then its not really yours (ok, granted, the base is your work), but his bastardized version. IMHO it would be far worse if he just released it as XPLORE1.2 or something as people wouldn't know if it was from him or you.
I know a LOT of hard work, time, and frustration goes into creating a nice rom release (and XPlore 1.1 is right up there with some of the best releases for the Wizard), and I honestly appreciate (and am amazed) at the time and effort you continue to put forth on this.

It appears he didn't get your permission which you would have prefered but he chose your ROM and kept your name on it.
He could have used it and said it was his and renamed it all together.
He chose your ROM because he liked something about it and added a few ingredients of his own.
He posted it it a public forum, he didn't put it on ebay.

Yes, can see there are new roms posted, but what are they? What are they supposed to do and what benefits claimed or believed?
Currently using NTS vanilla here, it has been superbly reliable. Main issues in all roms has apparently been the radio. Do these have any benefits or demonstrated improvements regarding the radio driver?
Can the person maintaining IW25NT please post an index with at least a 1-liner summary of what the various roms are supposed to be (e.g. features, benefits, origin, applications embedded).
Thanks.

NTS, XPlore, NBD, and Wizard Mobile 6 Business Edition (WM6 BE I guess) area all similar as they all came from the mUn aRTM base rom. They are different in the tweaks and settings changes, and then what is included or has been pulled out of each.
But if NTS works for you, then stay with it. I'm not sure you'd see that much difference with the others. Xplore 1.1 will give you more ram from a default install, and is a little faster (not much though IMO) than NTS. I've never installed NBD or WM6 BE so I can't comment on those.
I'm running (currently) the Faria Vanilla that I tweaked with the ROM kitchen that comes with it. No major differences really (I actually turned off overclocking this past weekend and am trying to phone out just running at the standard 195MHz now just to get a feel for it that way. I think XPlore was faster than this Faria in this mode, but with overclocking I can't say I notice much difference. The Faria Vanilla has been very stable for me (but so was XPlore 1.1 and NTS).

I assume you've tried flashing the button rom a couple of times to get the SPL down? Take out your SD card when you flash the button rom.
I've seen others that went to 3.08 have issues going down to 1.xx on their SPL. Can you flash the official rom from your provider which should be 2.xx? Or try flashing the Wizard Love and then flashing the button rom? If that doesn't work, then flash the button rom again so the IPL is 1.xx and go ahead and try doing the CID Unlock steps of running Lokiwiz. AFter that finishes try doing the button rom one last time to see if it will come down to 1.xx. If not, then go ahead and go back to a 2.xx rom (not 3.xx) and see if you are CID Unlocked. If not, you may have to pay imei-check.co.uk to get this done at this point.
One of the many reasons I just don't see the need to move to a 3.xx rom when we don't know if all the procedures here will work with it yet.

HI, I´m looking for the last cooked rom from Faria, which is it???
His last cooked rom is the one that comes in his Rom Kitchen. The thread for it is a sticky at the top of this forum. You can download the entire kitchen, and then in the devwiz directory it creates there is a flashrom directory. You an run the ROM Update Utility in there and you will flash the basic Vanilla version. Or open the PDF and follow the steps and you can cook your own (just have some idea what you are doing before you attempt that).

If you have both IPL/SPL 2.x (flashed the Tmobile 2.26)...you could try Core 2.0n (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=304876)

You have to get your IPL and SPL up to 2.xx before you flash a WM6 rom. If you haven't already, you need to run Lokiwiz to CID unlock it at this point, then you can flash an official rom like the T-Mobile 2.26 rom. AFter that then you can flash WM6 of your choice.
