Messaging worked fine until recently, now if I press the Mail button, the bottom bar shows New and Menu, selecting Menu shows the normal options for Mail - send/receive, etc, but the main screen shows whatever I was looking at before! I can't see my inbox or anything!
At first, a soft-reset would set it to rights, but now it doesn't.
Not sure if this is relevant or not, but I've installed most of my programs to main memory, the storage memory is down to 4mb, program memory to 22mb.

I've mounted the external ROM using Fit4Cat's program, but can't install anything to it - what am I missing? I know I saw something about it, but I'm sick and can't think straight as to where I saw that...

Bump - anyone? This effectively kills my email altogether - I can't see any messages!

this is not clear. do you mean that you can only see the today screen if you were looking at today before launching mail?

this is probably because you have one of the new roms and your extrom is not unlocked although it is unhided. Fit4Cat works only on older roms.

use HERMES_MountExtROM_v2.cab to unlock it but you need a supercid device for that to work. you can use pof's HTC_Hermes_SIM_Unlock_v2a to make your device supercid but you need to downgrade the bootloader to 1.04 to make it work.

To clarify - yes. If I was looking at Today, I would still see Today but with different softkey options. If I hit menu - options, that would pop up but as soon as I'd close it it would go back to the original screen. I could jump between programs, still nothing.
When I went to take screen shots of the issue, I had just deleted acbPowermeter, and now it Messaging seems to be working properly. Go figure. I reinstalled acbPowermeter, but the problem did not reappear immediately. Perhaps it is a gradual thing since it did get worse over several days until Messaging completely quit working. Ah well, I don't think acbPowermeter EVER worked - TopBat works great though!
I also had a problem where I had checked the "Check for mail every xx minutes". I'd uncheck it, but it would keep turning back on and checking mail. Finally today I ran thru it twice to make sure it stayed unchecked and it did.

Thanks for the response about the extended ROM, I should have mentioned that I have the 8525 and from what I read/understand, I can't downgrade the 1.09 bootloader. Ah well, guess I'll just have to wait for Cingular to do a timely ROM release

i believe you still can downgrade it to bootloader 1.04 if you purchase imei-check unlocker. it's just that we can't download the free bootloader downgrading tool from this forum anymore due to the copyright issues.

"The free way to flash bootloader 1.04 on your Hermes is by flashing a ROM matching your CID containing this bootloader version. This method is only valid if your bootloader version is 1.06, if your bootloader version is 1.09, you can't downgrade because 1.09 will not allow to be "upgraded" to a lower version.
If no such rom is available for your device or your bootloader version is 1.09, you can buy the Imei-check unlocker to have bootloader 1.04. The HTC Hermes unlocker from imei-check is able to flash the 1.04 bootloader. It transfers the required files to the Hermes via ActiveSync before actually the unlocking key file with your IMEI is requested. The bootloader is flashed on the device after you enter the valid key file (you have to pay for that)."

Is it anything similar to this? Screenshots are there too...

Unfortunately no. You were seeing the white background and text in the main body of the screen. My problem was that you never saw the white background with the folders. I could send messages by selecting New, but not read messages because I couldn't see the inbox!

I had this happen before and it was due to the Pocket Outlook database being corrupt. If you don't mind losing any mail that is on your Tytn, I have attached a program that will reset the Pocket Outlook database and likely fix your problem.

I tried some stuff last night... seemed to work (for now). I'm gonna try the cleanmail thing too.
