Guys, the contents does appear to be Crossbow. I haven't flashed, just decompiled. However, it appears to be a custom rom, ie contains custom 3rd party apps like WM5NewMenu, so this isn't stock AFAIK.

It is a HTC branded rom.

However, the moderators have previously discussed, and given the increasing legal attention this board is getting, I've deleted it for the time being.

Please don't re-upload it without speaking to a moderator. This isn't about being clever, it's about staying legal.

Those who want it know who's got it.... [please don't PM me for a copy, I can't give it to you!]

It may be permitted, let me discuss with the other mods first.

PLEASE DO NOT UPLOAD OR LINK to this file for now.
This will be a bannable offence, 1 warning only

Also, please be aware.
There are crossbow roms out there that will permanently lock your phone radio and cause potential bricking. Use caution.

JFYI:
I flashed the rom and it works.
I have never used heimli and ivans rom, so for me wich is used to WM5 it looks good (not as good as Opie/Gpe though).

It seems like it was only wince that where updated. It started the update at stage 3. I also had to use the coutry ID stuff, because it failed with the ROMUpgr.... file.

There is only one thing about Crossbow / WM6 that I am interested in... does the phone still lock up? I would like to hear after a couple of days if the stability is better than before. If that is solved... I will be a happy camper.

up there it says there are some apps installed and this is someone's personal customised edition.

any chance that someone will clean it up and take it back to vanilla? or is it likely that we will get a vanilla one leaked? or even someone slightly on the ball (read i-mate not o2 :¬) will release an official one?

Guys,

As far as I'm concerned, you can talk about whatever you want, just NOT where to download it from. Those who are testing it will hopefully provide useful feedback to Microsoft and HTC.

For developers & hackers who want to talk in private, PM me. We are making arrangements.

so it is faster ? stable ?
it couldnt be
the gui uses so many new icons that are much more enhansad than
the older WM5
so it should take more internal memory ??

can some1 confirm the amount of program memory after a soft reset ???

what are the general bugs you lucky guys have encountered so far ?

btw do all the previous apps running on WM5 work on universal WM6??

Cons:
No video calling.
On some devices the up on the d-pad will stop working, hopefully be fixed in other builds.
Some apps cause memory leaks, as on AKU 3.5.
Many of the free battery/memory today plugins will cause a fatal hang on reboot, so you have to hard reset. iLauncher and PocketPlus are fine.
If you use Radio ROM 1.14, I have found, although probably more to do with the radio rom, is that if you try to change the band while it has a data connection, it will hang the radio, and you have to soft reset.
If you leave WiFi on and allow it to go into suspend, sometimes it will fail to wake up, and you need to soft reset.

Mostly, it's as fast and stable as AKU 3.5, but not as good as the 3.3 images. I still think those are the fastest and most stable I have tried.

Although this build has been tweaked slightly from the one I have (it's the same version though), so these issues may have been fixed already.

40Mb free is absolutely impossible. OS can see max 48Mb RAM (depends on page pool size), and itself it takes about 16Mb min without any running progs like voice dialer helper, etc. So you'll never get more than 30MB free.
He should mean that OS can see about 40Mb in total.

Dude, try tuning off UMTS (ie set band to GSM) and see if that helps. Bit of a hassle to activate 3G when u need it, but in spotty 3G coverage areas u get a LOAD of radio issues.

I have been monitoring this thread for a few weeks now and this post by AlanJC is the best post in the 9 pages I have flicked through.

The generic post of "it's good" and "it works" is obviously positive BUT does not diminish my skepticism about WM6. WM5 is good since it works, but it is also full of shit when evaluating MediaPlayer, WiFi Support, PhoneFeature (like sending contacts via SMS), InternetExplorer, etc...

Does WM6 address the issues which make WM5 full of shit?

Can anybody confirm or deny the following features WM6 is being marketed with:

Here are some highlights:

The following is actually a projected feature-set of WM5 AKU3, but are these features actually carried over to WM6?

- Better integration of SIM / USIM contacts
- Alphabetic sorting of SIM / USIM contacts in contacts list view
- Pocket PC language packs at hard reset time (UK English PPC at last?)
- Auxiliary display support native in OS
- Improved 'Internet Sharing'
- Much improved quick start wizard with 'skip' for tutorial, settings setup at boot time
- Pre-provisioned email accounts
- vCards over SMS
- SMS Multiple Recipient improvements
- Save SMS to SIM
- One handed PPC folder navigation improvements
- WMP full screen video on all devices
- Equalizer
- Smart-type search
- Large number of preconfigured email providers (including GMail!)

I do admit that some of the above feature-list has been visually verified from the screenshots of WM6 out there, like "Support for HTML in messages". But a huge bulk of the other features still remain unverified.

Finally, the WiFi issues that I am guessing has slipped through the cracks in the development of WM6 are:
- AES support (in addition to TKIP) for WPA
- extension of WPA to WPA2

Personally, I am highly interested in the following speculated enhancements:
- 30% improvement in speed for Internet Explorer Mobile (is the enhancement to IE such that I can afford to dump the resource demanding Minimoz?)
- New Microsoft Office Mobile, which allows users to view and even edit documents on the device while retaining formatting, including tables and images (is this enough to offcially allow me to turn my Qtek 9000 into a mini&mobile-workstation since PocketOutlook has partially allowed this to happen?)
- MediaPlayer enhancements, especially the Equalizer (is MediaPlayer sufficiently fixed to allow me to dump third-party players and shift my attention to codec plugins to spruce up WindowsMedia to play traditionally unsupported formats?)

I am generally looking to stop using third-party apps because they take up space which the Universal does not have a lot of. However, I am not going to stop using third-party apps at the cost of reduced functionality of the Universal. Just because the Universal looks like a brick does not mean it has to behave like one.

Feel kind of like an idiot answering my own questions, but after scratching my head for a while now regarding WM6 - I decided to take the leap myself and to see what WM6 was all about!

Firstly, most of the hype surrounding WM6 is actually true EXCEPT for the following:
- Media Player being equipped with an Equalizer is still a fantasy
- No WPA (AES) as well as WPA2 WiFi Support
- BETA status of WM6 is quite obviously noticible when trying to preview all the sounds and notifications.
- Either the Bluetooth Stack or Voice Command 1.6 in WM6 is WORSE than in WM5. The Multifunction Button of my headset worked with Voice Command 1.6 in WM5, but no longer works in WM6.

The UNSUSPECTED BONUS that WM6 offers which no thread seems to have indicated is that, its FASTER!

My Qtek 9000 now boots up 30% quicker than WM5 - with all my apps already installed! What is even more surprising is that a few of my lightweight apps (sizing up to less than 1,000 kb in size) seems to initialise 60% faster when run from my Storage Card, than when I had WM5 running.

If you want a media player with an equaliser use GSPlayer (although I haven't tried it on WM6 yet).

The sounds and notifications should work - have you tried 2.01.08 by Jwrightmcps?

No, I have not tried 2.01.08 by Jwrightmcps. I use TCPMP anyway as my Media Player and not WMP. The reason for my comment was because WMP was supposed to be improved as defined in the following link:
http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=246614

But unfortunately, this is totally untrue! There is absolutely 0 functional improvements made in WMP between WM5 and WM6.

EDIT: I take the comment "No, I have not tried 2.01.08 by Jwrightmcps" back .... I can confirm that the Installshield Executables for WM6 I downloaded using bittorrent is actually the same as Jwrightmcps' ZIP files in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293902

There is NO WM6 release where video call works perfectly that I know of.

NO VIDEOCALL IN WM6 YET. If you need Video call, use WM5.
