i have the exact same problem with my sandisk 2gb card on the p4350 (the same card i use in my hermes where it works perfectly for about 4-5 months). it always happens when i save data to the card with a softreset following (f.e. backup). the card isn't recognized anymore or has folders with strange characters on the sdcard). then i remove the card, do a SR and put the card back in afterwards. after that everything is fine again.
very strange.

lucky for me i spotted this then, i was about to order a 2gb card but i'll think i'll go with the 1gb instead.
incidently is anybody working with a 2gb card with no problems?

16th January 2007, 03:40 PM
it's not a problem of the sd card but of the p4350. the card works perfectly in the hermes for months.
so why would a 1GB sd card work perfectly and a 2gb not when the sd card itself is definetly not the problem?

I got a reply from HTC Support:
Hello Milen,
Thank you for contacting HTC Europe.
We have seen this problem before on the HTC P3300. Currently we have escalated this issue to our R&D team in Taiwan, and they are investigating.
We are unsure as to the time frame for resolution of this issue, as our team still need to recreate the problem, establish cause, and create fix.
Should you have any other problem, please do not hesitate to contact us again. Your local number can be found at http://www.europe.htc.com/support/cs_by_phone.html

Like many others I have experienced an occasional problem with corruption on a 2Gb MicroSD in my XDA Orbit. First time I fixed it with a soft-reset.
I have had the issue again yesterday and re-formatted my card to start again. The problem started yesterday when I noticed that the names of Storage Card folders were corrupted (lots of null characters). When I connected to PC and browsed I saw 2 folders named 'Storage Card' visible. Although the card now looked almost completely empty to Windows, the PPC Memory/StorageCard applet still reported 700+ MB storage in use.
After reformatting and loading up my TomTom data from XP. I put the card back into the phone, but it appeared that the phone was still remembering yesterday's view of the card, mixed up with todays! The bit from yesterday was the storage card folders used by poutlook for attachments.
I decided I must hard reset, and then it should be OK right? Since the reset I have been unable to complete the boot sequence on the phone - it just hangs after showing the version numbers on the startup screen for O2.
Seems like a warranty job, but since I bought it on ebay from a guy who sells lots of them, that may not be easy!
Any ideas how to kick it into life? I've tried both with/without SIM/SD/power cord/etc.

Dear HTC support,
Do you officially plan to publish a firmware update for Herald, Trinity
and Artemis because of their bug to corrupt the flash memory card
after normally read-write access? Or I and many other people like me
have to return their phones to you? A time period will be a good answer!
Here is my device information:
HTC P4350 - Herald
ROM version: 1.8.405.1 WWE
ROM date: 11/03/06
Radio version: 02.71.90
Protocol version: 4.1.13.31
ExtROM version: 1.8.405.101
All best,

Answer:
Dear Milen,
At the moment we do not have an exact date for when updates
will be released. We are expecting this to be in Q1 2007.
Also as yet we cannot confirm the location for any downloads.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this.

That damn thing screwed up my data too!
I wrote to HTC support. Wondering, are they gonna answer or what?
"Corrupt data on MicroSD card" Dear support, Yesterday I'd discovered another wonderful feature of P4350. All the data on my MicroSD card was destroyed! No folders or files, just a junk file named "squareСЭSquareEx" 0 bytes in size. After running scandisk using SD Card reader I've had all my files unreadable in FOUND.000 folder. Information on device: ROM: 1.8.411.3 RUS Rom Date: 11/03/06 GSM: 02.71.90 ExtRom: 1.8.411.103 MicroSD Card info: Kingston 1Gb SDC/1GB 0645G88588U SD-C01G Japan The device was being used just as usual and worked fine during the whole week. The only difference was that I've been using WiFi extensively and it was the first time when the battery power was lower than 35%. What are you going to do about it and who is gonna pay me for such an incredible inconvenience?

Hello people! I might just have the solution to HTC memory card problem, but im not shure about it, i dont own Artemis or Herald so i cant check it out.
Today morning i had a great idea:
I own a Qtek s110, for today plugins i use SPB Pocket Plus 3 and it has 1 thing that differs form using it on any other device - the memory card status! It is hidden on Qtek. When you try to enable it it tells you that it may be the cause of data loss and instability of system. As you should know Qtek is built by HTC.
My idea is try to disable any memory card status idicator and see if that cures the problem, because i think this trouble has been on long before HTC brand started building their own devices! Good luck!

After i installed the program tweaks2k2.net on my P4350 i experienced the same problem with my a-data 1Gb microsd. In my case removing this program also removed the problem with the corrupt storagecard.
Another annoying problem is that my ringtone is constantly changed to windows default when i hit the ok-button....

Like many of you I have sometimes (but relatively frequently) corrupted my SD. I have found out that the corruption is very often in the cache only. If i put SD card out and put it in back again the card content is correct and without corruption.

I had a similar problem. My SD card wasn't recognized anymore after a while, sometimes after a backup. Now I fixed it. I discovered that I shouldn't move the programlinks in the "start menu" manually. Some programs, which I still don't know which one exactly, should stay in the root. These are the programs installed by default. When I putted the program back to the root of "start menu" folder, the storage card was recognized again.

My Herald (P4350) has this problem 2 with a Kingston 1GB card. Up until now it showed up a lot during the first week or two. After that, I was told that a nice way to "solve" this problem is to never manually turn off the device using the power button, just let it auto shut off after a specific period of time (ie 1min). I've been doing this for about one month now and the problem is gone. Try it, this may help until we get WM6.

Your URL is a hack and does not come from the HTC-Website.
The FAQ-id 545 provided in the Link referes only to the P3300 Device and is not suitable for the P4350. The Trick is in the "Device"-Part of the URL. You can insert any known device-ID here and the website will dumb it to the content of the FAQ-ID. Thats it.
The only URL P4350-Users have to stick with for Softwareupdates is this one:

I think that it is both WM5 and HTC problem.
Do not keep any working application at memory (kamera, gps software, etc), always close it.
Do not press power button to sleep device - lets it sleep independently (by time).
And, finally, push HTC for new patch !!!

I think I got a solution until HTC will release a new ROM Version. Be shure, that all programs with a today plugin are installed at the device and that all programs on the SD Card are closed before you swich of your device.
I think, the problem is, that WM5 has a problem with the of swiched device until programs are running, wich are installed on the card.

I also recognized that if the usage of the SD reaches certain amount, the problem also occurs. For example after copying a 100MB video file to SD, after use RSS reader to get the content from websites...
It can be solved only by HTC, no doubt about this.
Hope that they will release the patch soon.

If its a problem caused by running Applications while the devices goes to sleep, I'd recomend everyone to use the "X-Taste aktivieren, um ausgeführte Programme zu beenden"-Option in the "Aufgaben Manager". (Settings->System->TaskManager). This replaces the OK-Button in the upper right corner with an application-terminating "X".
I happen to use this option for the time I got this Device (four weeks now) and never had any problems with my 1GB Kingston microsd-Card. Maybe its because I always close and terminate any applications running before I send it to sleep.

Yes, thats the safest way to use the memory card without any problems. I use Wisbar Advance 2 to be shure, that all running applications are shut down before I swich my device of.

Hi,
still no update for this problem ?
I am still having the problem (second times in 1 week :-()
I am using a MicroSd sandisk 2Go.
The first time , every folders and files dissapeared completely .
The second time, 50% of my files dissapeared and I have a lot of strange named files named with only two characters and with a file size of 27.8 or 27.9 Ko.
I have tested the method that explained to let the HTC powering off instead of pressing the button manually.
I dont know if it can help but it seems that it's more an ActiveSync problem.
Indeed, as I remember, the two times that the problem appeared, I was trying to plug my HTC on another computer.
I hope HTC will find a solution for this annoying problem :/

It is a big big problem. If simply the phone crashs, we can fix it using a backup file on the SD card, However when the card died, we have to restore it from the PC. What if it happens when we are out in the field?! I know for most of us frequest this and other forums, phones are nice toys. However, they should at least do one thing well - be a good and trusty phone first. I need my phone when I want to make a phone call!
Personally, I think all the 'fix' (close everything before hitting the power) are not a real cure. Since the crash is not always happening, you are simply lucky and the bad thing WILL happen, sooner or later.
Glad I am still within the 14-day remorse period. So here is my answer to HTC, "keep your buggy Wing, I am returning to my ugly but TRUSTY blackberry!"

Hi there,
I have an Exec with WM 6,latest ROM( I think),and the same problem of data loss with my Transcend 4GB SD cards.I have got the previous two replaced but the same thing happened and I am fed up with it.
The loss of data takes place 'randomly', means without
1.Switching off the device with power button,
2.Using active sync,
3.keeping applications running in the background ,
4.Low battery etc.
It happened while I was using the device and checked the folders with the 'file explorer' which showed 'my documents ' folder to be empty,The 'resco explorer' showed it to be empty too,but the memory status showed 150 Mb difference ,
I lost 150 Mb data and what's more 300 mb storage space from the card. Why this memory difference with these two file explorers?Does it mean that the data files are there but hidden somewhere? Can they be retrieved ?
Where exactly the problrm lies HTC?Exec?WM6?ROM?Transcend product ?Please help to retrieve lost data files...any tools.
I hadn't any problems with 1 GB SD. Thanks.

I was told by a friend there is a registry tweak for Storage Card. I'm trying and now it's quite OK. I'm confident now to turn on/off my C800 by hard key any time I want and don't worry any more about the SD card corruption.
Use any registry editor to change two DWORD values:
HKLM\System\StorageManager\PNPUnloadDelay
and
HKLM\System\StorageManager\PNPWaitIODelay
to 8196 (dec)

1. my impression is that people just use wrong values here. Some prefer
a) PNPUnloadDelay = 8196, PNPWaitIODelay = 8196 (as stated here)
b) PNPUnloadDelay = 8196, PNPWaitIODelay = 1
c) PNPUnloadDelay = 5000, PNPWaitIODelay = 10000
MS officialy says PNPWaitIODelay should be three times PNPUnloadDelay.
ANYWAY, another people say these registry settings just dont work, because OS loads with registry values stored in ROM and the settings we see are only a virtual copy.

We'll after a ton of problems and a weekly backup of my 2gb microSD I noticed that this problem happend when mostly when I used the camera app and stored the pictures in the card. It also happened when I sent email attachments to the card. My p4350 would hang with large loads of active software so I would soft reset with either of these working and bingo... ugly names for my files.
I disabled these and have not had any more problems. Obviously my p4350 is probably the worse I've ever had in memory availability so I've had to follow some of your tips: No startup programs on the card and no today pluggins either. My default MP3 ringtone is also on the windows folder. All other apps ended in the card because I now need space for emails and pictures.
Anyways, its august 14th and still no WM6 update.

I've tried every forum I know of, but I haven't found anyone with this problem.
Recently I had to perform a hard reset because I had some problems with a freeze up of my Herald. One of the problems was my device froze up after a soft reset with my memorycard (Sandisk Ultra II 2 Gb MicroSD).
After my reset I have been trouble free for 3 days. This morning the problems started all over again:
-If I perform a soft reset with my card inserted, the device only shows the white screen I usually enter my devicecode. It's impossible to enter the code and the device won't function until I perform a soft reset with my card ejected.
-As soon as I insert my card, I can't access Messagesanymore; I can click it in Today screen or Programs but it won't open Messages.
-Sometimes the device doesn't encounter these problems at startup but freezes up after several minutes.
-Sometimes it randomly opens TomTom Navigator; almost as if I had just inserted my SD card.
Has someone encountered this problem and found a solution for it?!
I've tried to change the OMAP file extension solution, but it made no difference. Tried to re-format my SD-Card. Tried a hard-reset. Tried changing the storage location for several programs. Tried using the PPC for storage of my e-mail attachements and photo's. Tried and am still trying to get the official WM6 upgrade from HTC :(. Only ejecting my storage card ensures my 4350 working as it's supposed to work
Could someone help me???
Underneath I've included my device information:

I dont know if it is mentioned earlier in this thread, but I have read somewhere (and partly experienced myself) that if you choose to save emailattachments directly on the SD-card, it could lead to trouble. Atleast in WM5...

After much trial and error, I have finally gone a week without a card corruption problem. The only thing that Ihad done differently was to totally remove Vito Audionotes.
I think I know why too.
I had a Dash (Excalibur), & when using Vito AN, the autorecord function would record the GPRS connections as well as the calls. Sometimes making recordings that were hours long. Anyway this led me to believe that my "random card corruption" when no program was running was caused by my Email retrieval set to every 1hr via GPRS as this was occuring at about the same time as the corruptions.
Then a day before I removed the Vito AN, I had the autorecord OFF and did a manual record (set to save to SD) and stopped the recording, then let the phone suspend with Vito still opened.
Viola, card corruption. So eitherway, Vito was involved in some cay with the error. Possibly with the MP3 encoder?
Lastly I have installed Resco Audio Recorder V4.1 (not V4.0 which does not work w/ Wing/Herald) since and have not had a card corruption for a week.
If any of you that are having the corruption problem also use Vito AN, try uninstalling it and seehow it goes. Nothing to lose... Good Luck!

I agree with you on the problems caused by the saving the mailattachements to your SD card; a few days agoo for some reason a virtual 2.2 Gb Mailattachement had been created out of the blue and my 4350 once again crashed leaving a scrambled SD Card . I couldn't remove, rename or delete the folder Mailattachements and I could't restore any of the files the card originaly contained. After formatting my card I could properly restart my 4350 and after switching of saving the Mailattachements to the SD card it now has run several days without a problem.
But still...was causes the problem?
Any ideas

I don't think the problem lies with VitoAN; for some reason problems occur when the SD card is been approached while being in suspend (sleep) mode

What ROM are you using? I had the SD corruption often while running WM5. I upgraded to WM6 six days ago and haven't encountered that problem since. I only hope, that it will remain that way.

Currently I'm using WM5; tomorrow I'll upgrade to WM6.
I'll keep y'all informed when problems occur, and if so how the occur.
Just keep my thumbs crossed for the bug fix promised by HTC.

You are right. I uninstalled VitoAN and Resco AR and still got the dreaded cryptic symbols with some 2.2gb & 2.4gb files on the SD root. Plus all my documents, Program files and other folders are gone. WTF!!!!!!!!
the only thing I was using was IE with Cache store to SD. Even my Mail was stored to device.
I give up already. My Wing is on eBay. If I get a good price I may sell my 2nd wing on ebay too.

I am already using the latest firmware. It is WM6.
Try this experiment.
1) Set your IE Cache to SD card.
2) Open up IE with an active connection to the web. (I use GPRS)
3) Leave your phone on until the phone turns itself off. OR
4) Turn your phone off without closing IE. Then wait 5 min before turning back on.
I did this 10 times in a row and it corrupted my card every time. I was able to fix the corrupted card by ejecting the SD then putting it back in. It seems that the card is not fully corrupted until you write data or attempt to delete data from the "corrupted" card. If you catch it as soon as the cryptic symbols appear, the card is salvageable.

A no problem whatsoever. But I have unbranded HTC P4350 and original HTC WM6 ROM. This one fixes the problem for sure.

Thats good to know. I guess HTC got the fix with that ROM update. Tmobile does not have an update since the Wing's release. In fact only 2 weeks ago was the stock OEM RUU released.
If I didnt have to use this phone for my business, id probably wait it out for Tmo to release a ROM update.
Well on the good side, my (1 of 2) Wing is fetching a $300+ bid at the moment. not bad since I only paid $99 from Tmo for it. Im still deciding what to do with my other wing. (.....kaiser???)

Hmmm. now you got me thinking. I wonder if the Herald WM6 ROM can run on the Wing? More importantly would it fix the SD card issue on the Wing as it does on the Herald.
I tried the Viet Touch Flo ROM and its nice but my Proxy GPRS does not work with that ROM. Also I lost my Edge speed with the VietTouchFlo ROM. Just a FYI.

Loaded the WM6WWETouch_It ROM and so far not a single card corruption.
I took a look at the running processes and found something called "sddaemon.exe". I never saw this running in the t-mobile ROM. I think this may be the fix.

Check your running processes and see if sddaemon.exe is running. If not, I think that confirms that the card corruption is related.

The corrupted sd card issue you have, has been corrupted before you upgraded to wm6.
The corruption might not bee noticeable right away, you can have errors on your fat system and notice nothing wrong, but when sddaemon runs, the os access the sd card in another way, cant describe it im other way :)
SO, then you will get a sd card error/corruption.

Same here.... Any solutions to this annoying problem? Sometimes simple SoftReset solves it! Any clues hints? I am using PDAVIET's ROM with WM6. IE cache to SD. HELP!

Try to switch "battery status" to normal frequensy.

not a solution, rather a potential workaround---
As suggested, i stopped wm6 from writing mail and IExplorer data to the SD.
After a solid month of common use on my part i never ran into a single corrupt sd case - where before it happened several times a week.
i am now testing IEXPLORER data wrtten to the sd to test stability. mail attachments still to internal mem.
see what happens.

I been reading tons of post about this corruption.
Since July I had it happen 3 times, so its not as bad as some other people.
But is there any post, that has all the information in one place, in stead of scattered around entire forum?
some tips?

My 2GB micro SD card just became corrupt. First time it has happened since I have owned the Wing in July.
I am running the latest Touch-It 2.3 for a couple of months now with no problems up until now.
After reading through all the posts regarding this topic, it certainly seems like there is no fix for this problem. That it just happens randomly no matter what firmware, etc. Seems to happen to some people more than others.
The whole corrupt SD card thing is very disturbing.

HTC has some explaining to do

Thought I'd add my name to the roll of people with this issue.
I have most (if not all) of my programs installed to the storage card, though I removed my Surreal Networks app to cache IE and Mail to the card to see if it would fix the issue. Short answer: it doesn't. When ever I have a program running that's on the card, if I put the phone into sleep (pushing the power button), it get corruption. I'll even get it if I get a text when the phone is sleeping. I have the phone set to cache IE on the device, though I do have attachments saving to SD.
It's really baffling that HTC could let their hardware ship with such a glaring flaw, as pretty much everyone with a WM phone uses a SD in some capacity. I used to have this issue intermittently on my T-Mo MDA, but it's much worse on Wing...

My TMobile Wing had this 'card corrupted' issue, later on the device couldn't boot anymore, so i sent it back to TMobile and got a replacement. everything is fine now. not even once with the same card in 3 months.

Happens randomly on my Kaiser. Last time it happened, I didn't format card but used it normally. After few days data just came back. Now this is happening again, but this time it seems really corrupted, since recovery sw founds DIRxx's and some "crypted" files under them.
Really frustrating bug.
