Technically it would be possible.

But we all depend on the manufacturers. If they don't supply us with upgrades, there's no way we can upgrade. So asking for it is of no use.

You could look to the magician forum and the number of threads there sugesting the release or possible release of the WM 5 update for the Magician.
But it never came.
If it comes it wil. There's no point to ask for is if it comes out it wil be on this site and forum. Its just foolish jiberish to keep asking for it. Its the same as all the people asking for an hack for the Hero devivce to enable wifi. But its simply not possible. But there are already 20 threads suggesting it....

Today, my cousin had just installed the WM6.0 in his O2 Xda MiniS, and when i saw it, i was thrilled! its super fast! it looks real cool, and the contacts, dialer and inbox are wonderful!

only thing is it requires Activesync 4.50 beta to sync.

The WM6.0 is testing roms are out for the Universal and the Mini S, and soon i hope someone comes up for the Artemis too!

as far as i know this device only accepts signed code in roms....so unless some one cracks the boot loader you will never be able to flash a custom rom...
in another hand .....i heard that there is a a test crossbow rom for your device,being tested by internal testers.....but this roms rarely see the light of the day....:) but you never know.

The HTC Wizard + HTC Universal (which are designed as WM5 devices) have WM6 ROMs so.. there's a really BIG chance that the HTC Artemis will get the WM6 update too..

WM6 a.k.a. Crossbow is just a ROM that has some updates + new theme..

Why is it called WM6 then? Cuz people are bored and they're really waiting for some NEW sh*t! It just counts as a lil entertainment for us while we're waiting.

If a update is released by your manufacturer you would not need to unlock but if for instance you have a t-mobile phone and dopod comes with wm6, and you want to use that rom you would have to cid unlock.

If and when you do a search on Google, you will most likely find website that will unlock your machine for about $7
Not saying that this will work on yours, but if you really want to be on the safe(save) side, just pay the $40 and you'll be 100% sure that it works.

It probably has to do with the P4350 being released very close to WM6 time-wise, whereas the P3300 dates from Q4 06 (September announcement).

I would be sort of disappointed if HTC didn't release WM6 for the P3300, but at the same time I would be very surprised if they would.

i dont know if its any help. but a friend found me the files required to install WM6. i have three folders containing various .exes and .dll type files. I havnt installed it yet 1) the files came with no instructions 2) i simply have no CLUE what so ever on how to install the files.
If anyone knows how to do so please let me know. I know its not offically been said to work... lets work together and make it offical :).

Went to an 02 store when i went to pick up my xda orbit (htc 3300). asked them about wm6 - the guy kind of new what i was talking about and said 02 are going to charge for the upgrade and is expected 2nd quarter. i think he just said it cos he wanted to make sure i bought the phone. anyone else shed some light?

If that's the case, I wonder if we'll see more upgrades from WM5 to WM6 than we did from 2003SE to WM5? I sure hope so!

Only for 'message centric'-devices, i.e. those with a built in keyboard like the TyTN and P4350. I haven't seen any indication from HTC that they're planning to release a WM6-upgrade for the P3300.

Count me as a sceptic - exactly how many upgrades to WM6 have been provided as "exes and dlls" - zero. Would require a ROM update and unless your friend has exclusive access to this it would have leaked on the net in the time you have taken to post it.

There are themes to make your P3300 *look* like WM6 but that does not mean it is WM6.

My money is on this not being a solution - if you don't know what you are doing how can you know this is genuine?

I think we should petition for an upgrade or an answer, at least re-sell the device in time to have some value left. Firstly it is a mistake this device has only 200mhz processor, and secondly its a mistake not having a possible environment that play's better. At lest they could help unofficially to have it work with artemis. It was a quite expensive device.

I'm not agry about CPU, it's enough for me, but WM5 ROM update and WM6 upgrade I want on 200%, HTC don't act fair with us. Oldest Wizard and newer TyTN has WM6 already, why Artemis NOT!?

I have had a reply from their technical guys who confirmed this. They said that they have seen a presentation on their company intranet stating this but haven't been told anything officially. They reckon that it will happen but just haven't been given any further info as of yet.

Their software website is below, this should have the details once they are released. Doubt they would want someone bast*rdising their ROMs to work on other devices though!

At the moment I am unable to share the ROM, but I can say it's an official test release to one of the UK operators based on AKU 0.2.1.

With MSFT offering free upgardes to WM6 iI guess you will see most of the operators offering upgrades quite soon. I am led to believe from my source that the release will be made available to end users sometime toward the end of May, lets hope thats correct!

I've just been on the phone to o2 customer care. I asked the agent I spoke to about whether there will be updates coming for the Orbit soon and whether WM6 will be coming out for it. He in turn spoke to techies and then told me that there will be updates but no WM6.
I was pretty disappointed, but my hopes have been raised a bit after reading this thread.
The reason I called o2 in the first place is because I'm half-way through my 14-day trial with the Orbit and I've found it to be irritating and buggy. I'm still undecided as to whether to stick with it or not.

Lol uniqueboy I agree with you but say for example that tmobile or o2 or any operator dont offer the upgrade to WM6, if our devices are CID unlocked then wouldnt we be able to download and use HTC's upgrade?

If it works that way and the operators dont offer the upgrade, then at least those who really want the upgrade can just pay £20 and use the imei check unlocker and then upgrade to WM6.

I think £20 isnt bad for an upgrade but I also think that operators should give their customers the upgrade for free nonetheless!

June isnt that far away now so we shall find out very soon!

Keep up the good work guys and keep this thread alive. I think all the complaining on here and else where might just be the reason why HTC are making this upgrade available for free... who knows! But notice how they mention the P3300 right at the end lol! And what a shame the P3600 isnt on the list... :eek: I think it should get it too as it came out around the same time as the P3300! Maybe it will after its owners have their say.

Dont worry there WILL be WM 6 for Xda Orbit and Trion for O2 UK coming relatively soon.

I read somewhere that HTC planned to release WM6 for Artemis probably in June. Operators will then make their own cooking and probably launch their version during July/August.

Do you have a genuine O2 branded phone? If so you should be able to download the software like other O2 customers. Unless I'm mistaken, the O2 site just used to ask for an IMEI number to get to the download page....??

If O2 offer the upgrade to its customers then you should get it for free just like all the other O2 customers will. Unless of course O2 decide to charge their customers but I don't see why they would.

If they do not offer WM6, then I THINK that you may be able to just download the upgrade which HTC will provide after having CID unlocked your artemis, but I'm not too sure about that yet as the experts here have not got back to me.

But I think its safe to say that O2 will more than likely provide the upgrade and LB here seems to have some inside information suggesting this to be the case although he wont reveal much at this point in time but I'm sure he has his reasons.:)

Read (on russian site for pocktpc) that HTC has officially announced that the models listed that on O2 will be provided with free updates to WM6 and it should start shipping soon, device by device ----- good news.

The question remains is will we, who have locked CID, need to unlock it before flashing to HTC's official WM6 ROM upgrade?

Thats such a nice thought but something tells me it will never happen!

HTC only manufactures the Artemis's for the operators and after that, its upto the operators to do what ever they wish as it is their product, not HTC's!

HTC will more than likely only support the P3300 and no other models which really is a pain in the backside!

I'm heading off to eBay to see if I can find an HTC P3300 for cheap:)

So July seems to be more of a realistic date for the release and I'm relieved to hear that tmobile is going to provide the upgrade. If tmobile in Germany will then I'm sure tmobile here in the UK will also do the same. Thanks for the info Sniper2.

I can confirm we are currently looking at the possibility of offering upgrade to WM6 on our current MDA devices. At the moment however no decision has been taken as to whether we will offer any upgrades or if we do whether it will be free or not. This also means I don't have any timescales I can give you for release I'm afraid.

After waiting 6 months for the SD corruption patch, it only makes sense that the patch will be rendered obselete about 2 weeks later by WM6 being released.

Can I ask a WM6 related question re TOM TOM/Co-Pilot etc?

I have upgraded to lots of roms on my XDA Exec and therefore need to re-install any addiytional apps. No problem.

With GPS software some if not all are linked to the IMIE of the phone to prevent copying. Some also limit how many times this can be done and if the software is registered has to be de-registered before and re-registered after any OS upgrade.

If the above is true should we not put up a clear warning and preferably a process so that those upgrading can follow without losing GPS software or having to beg the supplier for a license fix?

PS ignore my exec sig as I have WM6 on the exec but phone not with me.

i got the official german wm6 working on my compact III, don't know german so that came off, then tried to install the version from this site and had so many problems. wouldn't boot, everything went white, i tried so many different things and no luck
