How to update ROM on O2 Orbit-solution

All,

I've exchanged many emails with the imei.check.co.uk team and also met personally one of these guys in order to be able to upload a new ROM to my O2 Orbit. I had excatly the same problem as many of you with ending the uploding process with "model invalid id" error message.
Now I'm happy to say we do have a solution.

So if you want to change your ROM (any), simply follow these instructions:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Of course you can publish the instructions...

BUT PLEASE put a BIG WARNING! It will crash the phone in case you don't have a valid key file to perfom the last step: RUN THE UNLOCKER AGAIN AFTER THE ROM MODEL SWITCH TO RECOVER FROM THE DATA CRASHED MESSAGE!

we found a way to flash ANY artemis roms in ANY Artemis look alike device (HTC Hero too).
Tools you need:
-hexworkshop from http://www.bpsoft.com/downloads/
-Any rom
-winzip or winrar
-http://www.imei-check.co.uk/C3v1Unlock.zip
a valid UNL file for your phone.

install hexworkshop and winzip/winrar
Take any rom for example: ART_HTCWWE_11240501_026790_WWE_Ship.exe
in explorer, right click on it and select "Extract files..."
Now it will unpack all the files
You'll have now "HTCWWE_shipsigned.nbh"
right click on it and Click "Hex Edit with Hex Workshop"
You'll see on the 5th row ARTE10000
Make it ARTE***** and save file
Now right click on ROMUpdateUtility.exe and "Hex Edit with Hex Workshop"
Search for word password.it will find it at 0x3E0B0 after password replace "BsaD5SeoA" with "IMEICHECK" and save the .exe file

Now connect the phone to the pc (normal way). run the C3v1Unlock.exe
when is asking for UNL file, disconect the phone from pc, press cancel, and
close the unlocker.
Now connect the phone back to the pc (in this mode it is) and run the
ROMUpdateUtility.exe
Now follow the instructions as the upgrade it will work.
After upgrade done, run the unlocker again and this time select the correct UNLfile.
Task Done.
C3 after flashing with any WIFI roms it will STILL not have WIFI!!!

yes, first you have to go to imei.check and pay for the unlocking program and the unique .unl file.

P.S. I'm not a member of imei.check, just had the same problem as many Orbit users here...you can find my previous thread.

Also, when you see the line "ARTE1000" do you actually replace the "1000" part with the little stars? Sorry, I'm really new at this!

Everything went smoothly but when the device rebooted, it want me to "align the screen". It doesn't seem to be able to detect the stylus touching the screen! Can't get past that screen! Anybody know what I could have done wrong?

It worked like a charm. The only problem I had was that when the Orbit re-booted after the process finished, it didn't seem to detect the sylus. I just waited five minutes and then it worked. Guess it was still getting settled in with it's new ROM. I don't know where I had the TomTom before I started the update, but it installed the German maps which were there before but as a bonus it gave me a English speaking voice which I didn't have before. It came with a German voice and I couldn't change because I had not yet upgraded the memory and had no room. So, my update was super! The only little thing is that once I changed the screen color back to blue instead of that terrible green, I couldn't get the phone part (dialing pad) to change to blue. No biggie, as now I can use my Orbit in English. I can live with the green phone pad! Maybe somebody will tweak that one. Hope this wasn't more info than you needed....

the dialing pad can be easily changed as well....just do a little seach on this Artemis forum and you will find many links pointing to skins available for WM5 phone edition.

my o2 orbit has ROM 1.25.206.2 WWE. I wanted to know if this is the latest ROM available for my phone. I got my phone 10 days ago and i gotta do a soft reset on it every day. I had the same kind of problems with o2 Atom. But most of the issues were corrected once the ROM was upgraded. Please someone update me on my situation. Thanks

Did you unlock with imei-check? What is your model ID ARTExxxx ?

Hmm, but the steps described above are necessary to follow only if your model is Orbit (ARTE200). If you have HTC P3300 or Dopod p800W or Artemis or MDA compact 3, then you don't need to do it this way. The only thing you need to do is to unlock with Imei-check. If it still doesnt work, contact their help desk.

Ok i see, very strange indeed. I did the unlock with the stuff from Imei-check but i still get the message ERROR [244] : INVALID MODEL ID . If i try the steps from your post #1 , i get the described error obove. I'll try to contact the guys from imei-check, i hope they can help me :(

I have only one word of advise...organize all the items you need and know where they are before starting your flash. I created a folder on my desktop with all the programs and files I would need (as listed in the instructions) before I began my flash so that everything would be at my fingertips. I also used Total Commander to locate the files I needed to change so that I would know where they were beforehand. I'm not sure how literate you are in computer jargon, (I consider myself a noobie) but I went through the steps line by line with device and programs at hand before I actually connected my Orbit to the computer and began the actual flash. If you have any problems, I will be more than glad to attempt to assist, but I am not in any way an expert. Good luck and if you have any problems, this forum is the place to get help. The folks here are a great bunch!

It worked for me ! Thanks Masrov and Kleinemeus , I followed the instructions, got my unlock file from IMEICHECK and from french I turned my ROM to english. Kleinemeus, you were right !!! The blue dialpad in the phone is beautiful, much nicer thant the boring green I had before.
But there is no more TomTom which I understand and read in another thread that it is in the cad file in the Extended Rom.
I've downloaded from the ftp the HTC_P3300_1.12.405.101_WWE_ExtROM but....I have no clue how to install it !!!
Can someone tell me how to do it ? Or kindly point out if there is a tutorial how to do it in this forum ?

Hi! Congrats on updating your ROM! I couldn't have done it without Marosv and the folks at IMEI check! Not sure why the TomTom is not there. Mine was just fine and included the maps of western Europe. Was the software there before you updated the ROM? Also, now that you've updated your ROM, just a few suggestions if I may....buy a backup software. I'm not sure if I can post which one I bought or where, but if you are interested in the one I bought, please feel free to write me a personal email. Also, I noticed that sometimes when I download software, the screen will go dark after I unplug from the active sync and will not come back up....all you have to do is plug it back into Active Sync and the screen should come back up. Then just go to "start", then "settings", then "system (bottem of display) and then "backlight" and set the screen back to the brightness you want. I thought the phone had crashed and re-flashed the ROM. :o It was a good thing since now I know I can re-flash if I need to. Again, congrats and I hope someone here will have an answer about your TomTom.

Yes , I had TomTom installed before. It came already installed but now is gone. In regards to the backup, thanks. I will install SpriteBackup whcich came among other softwares in the 2 CDs from HTC but of course that will remain in frhench which is not a problem as I speak it as well. I just flashed my ROM in order to be easier to sell the phone whenever I might need it as I live in a country which main language is english.
I haven't experienced any problems so far but I didn't downloaded anything yet though but in case it happens I will let my new friends here updated !
But yes whlie I was updating the ROM my screen instead showing the progress as mentioned in the step by step of ROMutility.exe was grey with the backlight on....that concerned me until it rebooted at the end of the process. Hopefully everything went fine. Thanks once again to all !!!

Keep wondering how to install the Exetnder ROM available at the wiki ftp.....

Apart from managing to mess up the IMEI number (I put the wrong number in the IMEI-Check website) I'm now running the latest P3300 rom on my Orbit.

I have exactly the same PROBLEM !
I have test to UPDATE it with this FIRMWARE because the ORANGE-FR is horrible because they have deleted all goods utils in it, like : MSN, TOMTOM, etc ...
You must pay for all you want to do with ... :(

BUT, after the FLASHing and REBOOT, now the phone dont want to restart :(

Hello, i am a noob here on xda and ive followed the instructions on how to update my rom only to find that when i hex edit the rom upgrade utility exe and save it my computer wont open the file saying it is not a valid win32 application ??
I have retrieved my orbit by flashing with the t mobile rom, but i find no other roms will work! What am i doing wrong ??

After upgrade done, run the unlocker again and this time select the correct UNLfile.

if you will not use imei-check unlock procedure, you will get DATA CRASH on your device. imei-check recalculates security area (unique for device) and write it back to your device.

First I'd like to apologize before I even begin in that I am absolutely new to the world of smartphone's and PDA's and ask for your patience in dealing with me, I truly appreciate it.

My grandfather recently brought me, with me not knowing about this, an HTC p3300 from the Ukraine. Unfortunately, the phone is loaded with a Russian version of Windows Mobile so the keyboard, etc. is all in Russian.

I read your article and it said something about unlocking the phone, and I know that usually refers to unlocking from set providers. Well I know from trial that this phone I have works with all sim cards you put in, does that make it unlocked already? I am in the U.S, btw.

Basically, my question is, do I still follow the guidelines you posted exactly or do I have to make changes based on this information in order for me to change the language to English?

Your phone is already unlocked; however, if you flashed it with another rom, it would become locked again. Therefore, you need to unclock it again. The only choice to unlock right now is to pay. If you can be patient i'm sure free unlocker will come out soon.

You need an ActiveSync connection for the unlock procedure to work. This is also explained on their homepage. I think you should first restore the original ROM, then unlock it with the file you received from imei-check.

hello everyone. after an upgrade, my HTC stuck in the boot screen. i have the rom files but the problem is that i can't get it connected. my pc doesn't recognize it in order to start the upgrade process through the bootloader. any ideas please?

Don't believe you can - My Orbit is with them at the moment. I tried to update with it CID locked, so am paying the price (gratefully). Otherwise, I have a £200+ brick. I marked it down to experience and moved on.

from reading this forum, if you have original rom handy then no worries with CID locked devices, if your device CID unlocked by imei-check.co.uk then you could put any rom available.

They will put a ROM of your choice on the XDA - from this site or anywhere else. Just send them the link with your bricked PDA. There is NO O2 ROM available so you will not get that back.

These guys are great - just use them.

Marion, flashing has advance slightly since then :)
You can now do something called USPL which basically does what the above posts refers to, but for free :) just search for Artemis USPL within these forums and I promise you'll find it ;)
