WM6 ROM - Issues and compatibility list - please contribute...

Hi everybody,

I got quite annoyed by having to read several threads on the new WM6 ROM with the same newbie questions on and on. It blows the threads and makes it a neverending story to get the information most of us are looking for:

What are the issues with the new ROM - do the integrated apps and features work and which third party apps work

That's why I started this new thread! I already picked the information posted in the other threads - let's get together and post here answers (and please: NO newbie questions) to the above topics, so we don't have to read all the "Mum, I bricked my new toy!" stuff...

Here the infos I already found:

Issues with ROM/integrated apps/features:

no MMS, but ArcSoftMMS can be installed
camera app "hidden": copy file camera.lnk from /windows to /windows/start menu/programs (with Total Commander you will see it. Just view properties and uncheck "hidden")
you need AS 4.5 to syncApps that work:

Cons:

Pros:
- Prettier than 3.3 (to some degree)
- Faster than stock
- GPS works flawlessly
- Exchange wizard on setup screens
- You can skip the stupid Dr meeting setup screen

All in all, it's in an infant state. Don't use it for production. Wait a few weeks and someone will cook up a masterpiece. If you have had the pleasure of seeing this ROM, you are looking at the canvas of one soon-to-be masterpiece. I bet you that the cooked ROM product to come out of this ROM will be the end-all...

batterystatus plus 1.04 beta2 is actually workin despite the error message on install, after start not showin up fully, switching the rows on and off helps only thing not workin are free space on storage card and activating wifi in the taskbar
tman 0.9.5 is workin but doesnt fit the skin too well

someone know where to get the sms backup app from farias and molskis roms?? ;) only thing missing to happyness

- slower? i don't think so
- omapclock is a program developed by 3rd parts. Install it if you need it.
- barebones: that's true
- which sounds are you missing? Rings? Rings are not provided by MS. Install the rings you like if you want.
- Bluetooth: haven't tried it
- Error reporting: it was present in wm5 too. Disable it.
- ???


Pros:

I agree and also raise:

- BT PAN (haven't tried it but it should be there)
- HTML Email
- Better designed Message application (accounts are more easily reached)
- different notification icons for text or email msgs
- Remote Desktop: much better than terminal services client
- Smartdial included in phone application. No more HTC's external smartdial app.
- Improved contacts application

I know this rom is not perfect/complete but it is really a gooooood starting point!

Then reboot (reset will make camera visible in button settings)
After that you can assign "button 3" (the camera button) with the camera.lnk:
Settings>Buttons and select button 3 and point to "camera"

Now you can shoot your pictures :)

I'm not sure about how internet calling works but i think it is somehow related to msn live services.

it's supposed to be a SIP standard client. unfortunately i don't have the rom installed so can't really help a lot - just google a bit on "SIP" and you will find out more... ;)

USING Pim.vol from older AKU (2.23 eg.) will cause contacts to die..

ISSUE:

It seems that battery level is not working right!
I had approx 78% power left before I powered down, removed battery (to replace SIM) and start up again.
Suddenly I noticed the level was up to 99% again :S
(the wizard was not connected through USB or attached to charger at that time)

they are taken out of the rom by default....sounds make the device slower.

This ROM is nice and clean, only missing a good Camera application (which can be replace by CoolCamera) and the MMS application. Other than that seems pretty fast.

2 quick questions

1) what app will work so i can enable wifi G ?
2) the gprs didnt work at first but i put in the stuff myself and it worked from a tutorial BUT i have the t-mobile total internet plan and now i don't edge like i used to. also the speeds of gprs now is slower then what it used to be when i didn't get edge (out of edge area). Are there a diffrent setting for the total internet plan i put the voicestream stuff ! any ideas ??

SPB Backup installs fine. However when I do a full system backup I get an error log. "Unable to read from the file \windows\compimeh.dat". I'm running the latest SPB Backup, 1.5.1. Any thoughts?

Google only has one hit on the file and its some Germen looking site. So I'm not sure if its an unimportant file or what the deal is.

Battterystatus 0.03 works perfect. PQZII can't insert symbols, otherwise it also works.

All other applications I used in wm5 work.

As to missing the MMS, voicecommander, better camera application and PDF viewer, please keep in mind those are bundled by HTC, not microsoft. What we are playing now is a barebone clean wm6 ROM.

As to smartkey and other candies, those are inserted by our loved ROM-chef.

WM5 won't popup startmenu or ok button by holding soft keys, you need install smartkey, which may be included in your previous rom.

As to the Roaming prompt, it was there in WM5. Activesync -> scedulering, option "using the config when ROAMing".

Scratch that might just have been a one time thing.

AS does appear to have some quirks - but we shall see. Overall great ROM, just wish I could get some of the tools etc included with Farias 3.3

Some observations:
Much faster
Bluetooth A2DP doesn't skip at all
Most apps seem to still work correctly
The smartdialer is even smarter. It mixes your last called list from Call History, your Speed Dial and then your contacts all on the main screen. You can hide the keypad as well. Numeric keypad looks smaller now though.
Windows update, I wonder what they're going to update here :)
OS-ROM update only (it kept my splash screen, radio roms)
Internet Calling is provided for SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) for VoIP, probably works with Windows Live, but I don't use Live so I don't know. I'm sure Skype will work on here as well, but haven't tried it out recently and on this ROM.
Error Reporting annoys you at first, you can disable it though
Calendar now has a timeline which is pretty handy.

This is techically still wm5, but its more of a 5.5 or a SE. Most likely this was left like this to make your old software still work (software will see wm5).

Actually it is very stable. It goes to 195mhz during idle and goes back to the specfic MHZ after waking up. When you saw 195MHZ, you may just turn on the PDA.

Just extract the zip, there will be 2 files. Add the .exe to your \Windows and the .lnk to the \Windows\Start Menu\Programs

Now you have SMS Backup.

I downloaded AS 4.5 and it started working on mine easily.. i have vista RTM 6000 on my PC.. Other than that the WM6 rom is awesome.. It is fast, Love the new icons ..and the ringtones are siikkk... I still need some themes for it which look better. I have noticed one thing though, its really slow on checking mails like i had around 300 emails..and i selected all of them..it went dead slow

I upgraded from Molski's AKU 2.3, as I had the same problem with the AKU 3 roms. This morning, it started again, I could not hang the phone up with soft key or button, had to reset. I did not have this problem with the AKU 2.3 rom, so back I go.

I just tested using exchange sync and i clicked get the rest of this message and it immediatley started d/l message and it seems to be working fine for me. I tested on a couple of different emails.

I like the downloading right away rather than having to wait for send/recieve. This new button layout threw me off for a few as well, but i like having delete as a seperate button in email now

the files on page 5 work fine for both backup and restore. I tested it a few minutes ago backing up to sd card and then restoring and it worked without issue

which version of vista do u have is it 32 bit or 64 bit because it works with me i have vista RTM ultimate 64 bit edition. I have installed the WMDC (windows media device center beta 3) and it works perffect and also all the sync with office 2007 works. it is recomonded that u install WMDC beta 3 and the plug your mobile phone. If u have installed it the first uninstall and then install WMDC beta 3. To see if WMDC is installed go to add remove programs in control panel in vista and the uninstall and then install WMDC. WMDC is with 64 bits and 32 bits.

I noticed that SMS Delivery Receipt Fix is not working.

Everything else that I normally run works without problems!

I only got a problem when I connect to my WiFi Router with TKIP authentication, that doesnt work (and I hate this!!).

I have activesync setup with my mail2web personal exchange server and the device will not stay in sleep mode. It wakes up every 30-60 seconds. If I disable Microsoft DirectPush in the Comm Manager the device will stay in sleep mode.

I remember seeing something similar to this in one of the many cooked ROM testing posts, but I can't track this specific issue down.

Any ideas?

I have WM DC Beta 3 loaded and working fine with all previous roms.

But now I know it can work I will re flash WM6, but I will do the whole hog and first go to the veer 1 ROM then to 226 and then to WM

That's the USB ActiveSync link to your PC.......

The Wireless Adapter in the Wizard is the 'SDIO WLAN Wireless Adapter'.

Changing the Remote-NDIS to DHCP (Server-assigned IP address) will result in you getting an error message as in this post:

Regardless of which ROM I have used (QTEK official AKU 2 ROM), RISidoro's AKU 2.26, Faria's AKU 3.2 and now Faria's AKU 3.3 I have never had an issue with WPA/TKIP. With Faria's AKU 3.3 I now use WPA2/AES which is working perfectly for me with some Cisco Aironet 1100 AP's.

Alrighty - list of apps that I have found issues with.

pocketHackMaster - worked fine on 2.26 causes reboots on wm6 when the phone is idle - tried playing with settings no joy

Bluetooth - headset was detected and new device added. No joy with using it to kick off voice command or even as a phone headset. Advice?

Smartskey - doesnt seem to add anything to the notifications to get the CPU overclock to kick in. Big PITA - advice?

THERE IS NO EXTENDED ROM!.

This is a vanilla install - nothing added. You get the OS and the apps etc that come with it - anything else you are on your own.

Could we please keep this thread on problems and answers instead of 300 more goddamn posts on the camera app - the answer to which has been posted at least 50 times in other threads.

I noticed that SMS Delivery Receipt Fix is not working.

I only got a problem when I connect to my WiFi Router with TKIP authentication, that doesnt work (and I hate this!!).

as for the problem everyone is having regarding the powerups....put the device lock on and turn it off, it will remain off...i timed the powerups, they happen to me every 4 minutes when not locked...

The "power up" issue seems to be directly related to DirectPush. I remember seeing this or a similar issue in one of Faria's ROM posts.

Never hang if I reinstall everything from scratch. I used sprite backup restoring (upgrade mode), it hangs a lot. You have to reinstall everything. PIM data should be restored using the activesync.

that's actually what i did. i've reinstalled everything from scratch (used mail2web to restore PIM data). the rest i've downloaded and reinstalled the latest and greatest of each app. still. and i dont have much installed. i installed on top of molskis 3.3 rom.. don't know if that makes a difference or not.. i know the ipl and radio are different.

I had WM6 running last night and liked it, but I had to go back to WM5 for now.
For me, it was 3 issues that forced me to go back.
1) No MMS (didn't try installing the post in this thread... looks like I could get MMS if I wanted, so that's not really an issue any more)
2) Camera app... but we all know this.
3) Menu/Selection click sounds. I like those sounds and knowing when I tap on something that WM acknowledges it. Not having those acknowledges bothers me.

Another issue I'm reading about is the direct push kicking on the phone. That is definately no good. I use DP on WM5... I rely on it a lot. I didn't try setting it up on WM6 last night because I was solving other issues, so I never got to see that one manifest itself. I can't upgrade until DP doesn't kick the phone on every few minutes. :(

I'm looking foward to WM6 though... I believe it's going to be pretty nice.

here are the default sounds for crossbow, all of them should be there...and some extra stuff...this includes the clicks..

also, those who want it on WM5, just paste all of them in ur Windows folder and replace the files, softreset, and there ya goooo

1 Question about wifi

the wifi works but when i click on the wifi icon (on the top toolbar)

This will add all the sound events to your device. You may need to add the necessary sound files though. (MenuPop.wav, MenuSel.wav, etc)

Well confirmed my Jabtra headset has all sorts of issues with wm6.

When enabled I cannot do the following.

1) hangup calls
2) use the BT button to trigger voice command
3) Sometimes it answers but cannot talk/hear through it

It turns out the reason that the headset seems to cease working is that when I try use the button to trigger a VC event, something gets established and cant be freed. Cycling bluetooth fixes it.

you need a registry editor. I use Resco Registry or TaskMgr. I highly recommend TaskMgr, since it gives you so much more. Also supports rgu imports, and it's free.

Havent had any speed issues here using the latest beta. A lot of times its the actual theme that causes the lag - thats why I went minimal with my new theme.

On my WM6 , the keyboard WORD COMPLETION settings are not saved... i disable the suggest word when entering text, and afer few operations on my 9100, the option gets enabled again... seems i cannot get rid of that :) just a small bug i guess...

Does anyone know if the DEFAULT keyboard stays selected, since the 2.3 had a prboblem after reboot that the keyboard went to the standard one...

there no modules in voice comand.....there is over 100 files......even if you take the files out it does not work....because you also need to take the reg keys out from the hive .there are over 350 for Microsoft vc alone.
this can be easily done by an expert ROM builder....

but why da hell does he want to remove 1.6 to replace with 1.5......???

considering that 1.5 is not even compatible with the rom....hence why they developed 1.6.

All this stuff reminds me not so long ago when we all got the first copy of magneto working on himas.....

Tried wm6 and it seems to rock.........but, as i'm french, i tried to install MSVC 1.6 FRENCH => install but then refuses to launch (it must have to do with the fact that US version is in ROM => conflict maybe)

so i'm back to faria 3.3 rockin' rom (that i just finished configuring yesterday)



For those who search tweaks 4 WM6, I installed tweaks2k2, as always, and all the reg tweaks i done seemed to work, including wifi G, sms reports, file registry instead of hive ...etc...etc...

Good luck with this rom, I'm affraid myself will have to wait for a localized one

I have activesync setup with my mail2web personal exchange server and the device will not stay in sleep mode. It wakes up every 30-60 seconds. If I disable Microsoft DirectPush in the Comm Manager the device will stay in sleep mode.

I remember seeing something similar to this in one of the many cooked ROM testing posts, but I can't track this specific issue down.

Any ideas?

This is a killer for me... until this issue is fixed, I'm not using this ROM - this overshadows most of the other issues.

edit: Well... I use direct push. 3.3 ROM doesn't need to be locked... hm..

if i remember correctly, that has something to do w/ spb time. Spb time doesn't work too well w/ AKU3+. my guess its not fully compatible with wm6 yet.

Yeh mine does to even when locked to stop it turning on... maybe bluetooth is draining power but I don't think so.

Infact WM6 is so far the best rom I have used the only small problem I need to fix is that I cant start voice dial with my headset button.

As of the camera.reg file.

I have tried PHM registry editor as well as Resco Explorer. Non of them works. I can import part of the file so a file format is definitely ok. The problem is located somwhere inside the file. I'll try to locate wrong line when I have some time free.

Problem is located somewhere at the end of the file. More or less on 85%. I've added camera.reg content part by part and everything seems to work fine aside that there are some regs missing.

Did u activate file system/font cache etc. as discribed on molski.biz? That helped a lot for me - now my Wizard is running again (still not as fast as faria's AKU3.3, but faster than all my previous ROMs)... :)

I noticed that pretty much everything worked for me, most notably: battery status WITH overclocking, vjdevice lock, smatskey, pBar, ppcfinder, core media player, weather watcher

My tasks didn't show up on the device after I synced though.

Also, I posted in another thread that the difference between the latest version on WM5 and the new WM6 is like Windows98SE and WindowsME, except of course that Windows ME sucked big time and WM6 looks pretty dang sweet.

All that said, I think most apps that are working with the latest version on WM5 will probably work on WM6.

update; rom is running smoothly now.. phm_tray also works flawless.. oc'd to 232mhz. very happy with the performance. also love how palm threaded sms will beep during the convo incase ur not looking at the phone.. it didnt do this in wm5! :)

It's your radio - downgrade to 2.25 or 2.19 and you'll battery life improve.

You gotta pick one - better reception or better battery life.

Not sure if I am the only one that has this "problem" but I went to set my ringtones today and the last few options on the list for what application to set ringtones for were just a bunch of boxes. Well the two options i was looking for (text and ringer) were there so I clicked on the text and all my MP3 files i have on my SDcard for regular ringtones were there. So I can use MP3 files for my text message tones unlike any WM5 ROM!

yep the camera works. installed the faria files, and it works perfectly.

copied the files over, used TaskMgr and import the .reg.

Then did a soft-reset just in case.

The Camera app is actually under the Windows directory, so I updated my Camera.lnk in Start Menu Programs to point to the Camera.exe instead of the regular WM6 camera. You actually have both cameras after the install. Then I assigned the lnk to the button. Voila I have WM5 camera with WM6. AND YES the FLASH works! :) Thanks faria.

ran the reg patch, copied over the files (except a couple wouldn't copy over because they couldn't overwrite the files in ROM), soft reset and now my PDA isn't recognized by Activesync. When I plug in my cable, nothing.

Camera does work again though. I missed her so...

I'm going to give it a couple more tests and then it looks like a hard reset for me.

However, as an aside, I wish people would learn to use .cab files to install reg patches instead of .reg files. Different utilities import/export differently.

YUP! Good as new (wm5 good).

Follow the directions. you will find 3 files (I think 3) that won't overwrite the system files. That's fine.

Manually copy a shortcut for camera.exe into your Program files. Assign it to button 3 and you're done.

Works.

Faria rocks.

I can't imagine what Faria's cooked ROM is like. He seems to have most everything figured out.


Does anyone else have the problem turning off the WiFi from the status bar when it is on? When I click on it, it says "Turn ON" regardless whether it is on or off... :(

the pdaviet rom is working now with reg fixes for two of the bug issues of it of the usb not charging and the incorrect keyboard. much faster than the original for some reason. with it overclocked my wizard feels like an hermes.
