How about we keep useful tweaks, and cabs for necessary things in this thread?

Please don't ask questions, they can be asked in the other Crossbow threads.

I know a lot of people have come from stock ROMs or cooked ROMs to this vanilla one, and are missing some things they consider essential, so let's make people's lives easier, and stick everything you need here.

I'll start the ball off with these:

Unlock Extended ROM, you can now access your EXT ROM, just in case you had some nifty apps you wanted to access after this update, or just use the space for something else.

Smartskey & OmapClock, I have set the ini set to run the cpu at 264mhz.
Unzip it to your device, and run the smartskey utility, it will add a shortcut to your startup itself, and that's it done :) You can always add a shortcut to OmapClock into your start menu if you just want to down clock or check what it's running at.

Improve call quality (this may not apply to you but I have had to do this on every ROM I have applied to my Wizard, otherwise the person on the other end of the line says I sound too quiet).

There is already a SIM Manager on this ROM, and it does display SIM contacts alongside phone contacts, so I don't really understand what you mean, sorry.

Are you talking about the Contacts Backup that backups your contacts to a .csc file on the Storage card?

The older camera cabs don't work for 3 I have found and tried so far.

Can you tell me how big is the extended_rom? If it is less than 10MB, why should we bother to unlock it? We can use TC to access it now.

What did you use to import the reg file? I have tried tascal reg edit, and also fdcsoft's taskmanager and both say they have imported it, but neither actually works.

Might see if I can make it into a cab later if I have time.

I always use Resco Explorer, its great for importing and exporting reg values ;)

Weird thing is, I just changed SIMs and now it works.

Why did you take the battery out? Does the soft-reset not work? When you turn off the phone, that's a soft-reset. Also there's a button on the side you can reset using your stylus next to the IR. I only take my battery out when I want to switch batteries (I got an extra just in case). When switching batteries the time/date goes back in time. I noticed that when I switch the batteries with a low battery status it would do that.

Sorry, after importing you will need to open Sound and Notifications in the control panel and view the Notifications tab. You don't have to change anything, just hit ok.

Do you see MMS under Select an Account? My MMS is under the Text Messages and Outlook E-mail. Once you click on MMS there's the folders selection up top. Then just configure the MMS Configuration->Servers tab from the bottom menu, and you're good to go.

You might need to install the mms_enable cab that's floating around... just do a search for it...

coolcamera is not an accaptable solution IMO.
I think the best solution would be to get the original camera software from the Wizard's WM5 working.

One other issue I forgot about. The device will turn on by itself every few minutes if you have directpush email setup.
I know locking the screen is a temporary solution for this, but having to lock and unlock the screen EVERY time will get annoying pretty quick.

risidoro mentioned he got his camera to work. I'm browsing through the Chinese pda forums, and they have a ROM that contains the MMS and Camera fix. I'm going to see how they did it. If anyone find anything on the camera let me know.

I've installed omegaone batterypack 3.04 so I can close programs using the X button, however it cannot close the Phone and goes into a loop for a few tries,

anyone get this problem?
or a better program to actually close programs?

use the HTC X app... it just does that... closes app if you press X or if you press the X for a long time (shor only minimizes it)...

well I know it's the pim modules out of the old ROM, but I just don't know which ones the HTCCamera uses.

hmm.. well i used total commander to copy hidden camera.lnk in the windows dir to my start menu dir, and then made the HIDDEN atribute off, then went to the settings/buttons for keys, and made the key for camera link to that camera.lnk so the button starts the camera now...

I don't use Total Commander; therefore, I don't know the answer. With Resco Explorer (probably the same as TC) all I have to do is to click on the file. However, RC gave an error and Task Manger didn't.

Run the TaskMgr.exe

Click on the small arrrow in the upper right corner to get a drop-down menu.

Select RegEdit from the menu.

In RegEdit, press the icon in the lower left corner to get a menu.

Select 'Import' from this menu.

Navigate to and select the 'camera.reg' file.

Copy a shortcut of the camera.exe file that you copied to \windows to \windows\start menu\programs and then add the shortcut to your button # three (camera button) with the button program in settings\personal\buttons.

Even reads subject of high priority emails through the BT... WON"T, however, announce incoming caller ID thru the BT but I believe that's a hardware issue with the Wizard.

same happen to me. I use Voice Command 1.6 in other rom, but it was fine. I think there is some registry tweak to enable that. But than again, it might be a bug since version 1.6 is design w/ this particular function.

i used to block my caller id with my audiovox 5600 smartphone with cingular and it worked. i think your carrier does have to support it because when you click on the option it says downloading settings

so i took your guys advice and gave a try to coolcamera. and wow!!!! the night mode is so much better. i hate with the htc one you have to wait till the preview is light enough to take the photo. that can take up to 8 seconds. with coolcamera u just point and click. I really like that it loads up faster too. way better than htc's camera app. thanks guys

I'm not sure if any one asked this yet, but does any one know how to use the improved Clear type which Faria used in the 3.3 AKU ROM. The clear type on that ROM was awesome compared to the one that WM comes with by default.

hey i just thought that I would pass this cab file along, its the T-Mobile Hotspot Login Utility.. I saw someone request it once this new rom came out and I finnaly found the origional cab file from one of the extended roms. I have tested it and it does work with the WM6 rom..

where is this cab located? the ver built into wm6 rom is newer then the retail or so it appears by the build.. so ur saying if we re-install the one built into the rom it will work? if so where is the cab stored.

also.. does neone notice when calls come in thru BT while ur on a call it beeps like 6 times b4 it lets u anwser the call.. i find this rather annoying..its almost like it beeps in echos lol

thats probably couse it made less cache space on the device, meaning more free ram... all the tweaks make different spec on cache for filesystem, for gfx fonts, just different values, sktools probably lowered them...

has anybody found a registry fix or whatever to make the built in voicecommand work correctly? to me the reinstallation doesn't seem to be a satisfactory solution as it will take up a lot of precious storage memory... :( i thought about modifying the cab to just add the registry settings and not the files, but as it is a different built than the included one i am afraid it may mess up my device... :confused:

Go to Settings ~ System ~ Error Reporting and then select Disable error reporting

That should sort you out.

WM6 active sync works well with WMDC V3 as well as new release in Vista, both through bluetooth or USB.
But I have not yet found the way to complete RUU with Vista machines.
Has any one found a clue?

I had this same problem using the Jabra BT250V. The problem is that you can't make a normal registry tweak because the program was included in the ROM. So the solution is to just install VC 1.6 onto your phone (I didn't even need the registry tweak). Everything works after that; I've been activating via my headset for the past 3 days!

(HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\MMSAvailab le = 0 ) whats this about I have MMS composer installed but this was set to 0. I was not able to send mms even with the correct settings maybe this needed to be enabled for MMS composer to work? If anyone knows that would be helpful

Semi-right...

What you can actually do is either copy the smartskey.ini file from your \Windows folder to your desktop and edit it to exclude the "extra" key assignments, or just replace the existing ini with this one..

By removing the smartskey.lnk you should disabled smartskey which is a great application for one-handed navigation on the Wizard.. To re-enable smartskey replace the \Windows\smartskey.ini file with the one supplied here and then go to the \Windows\smartskey.exe app and tap on it to activate it. it will automatically create a shortcut in the \Windows\Startup folder.

For message sent disable the same reg tweak should work for WM6.
I'm running underground edition and used the same reg tweak and it worked fine

As for the Camera, what Rom are you using? Is it not in "\windows"?
Take a look with Total Commander or Resco you may see camera.exe there then simply create a link to it in "windows\start menu\programs" and map it to your camera button through "settings"

All you need to do is right-click on the song (mp3, wma) in 'File Explorer' and the context option comes up to assign this music for your ringtone. Easy as pie! Hopefully this will work for all of you. I'm using the 'Underground WM6' version.

I like the delete key as well. I use the "new" menu when I want a new message. Makes more sense to me.

There is nothing wrong with doing it that way and if that is how you like it then cool. But also know that instead of using two connections, you can use one wap.voicestream.com connection for internet and mms so that your phone doesn't have to continually switch connections...just a thought.

Also...why anyone would use wap 1.2 instead of 2.0 I don't know? But hey...if that's your preference...then to each their own.

Instead of copying/pasting them to your windows/rings folder (which takes up internal memory), you can just put them in the root of your storage card and they'll show up in the list and work from there (this only works for ringtones and NOT message tones). I have my MP3s (full and truncated ones) on the root of my storage card and I can select any of them as ringtones. This also does not create a copy of the MP3 on your internal memory (like when u click and hold in file explorer and select set as ringtone - it actually creates a copy in windows/ring - and some other apps/tweaks which also does that) so no added memory in ur phone's internal memory! it runs straight out of ur storage card! try it!

**make sure it's not in any folder in ur storage card - has to be in the ROOT!

It can also be seen by message alert tone and other tone like missed call, etc.. even if it is mp3 or wav or wma.. it uses the same locate file method used by the incoming call

That is correct. I was mistaken on my post that it only works on ringtones. It actually also works for message tones and other alert tones. I actually never bothered to check that's why I said it would not work for alert tones and was only sure that it would work for ringtones, but i was wrong. It works for message tones as well!

Increase camera frames per second

This tweak will let you increase the frames per second of the video camera to make more fluent movies:

Please note that most providers (sending an receiving) do not support MMS sizes greater than 100KB

Adjust the MMS recording length limit

If your provider (and the recipient) allow a larger MMS size, you can adjust the recording length in maximum filesize by adjusting:

The value '80' there is 80KiloByte.

1. Turn the device off fully then while holding the 'Communications Manager' and 'Voice' buttons turn the device back on, keep the two buttons pressed during all of this.

2. The device display will show a message saying 'Press Send to restore factory default, other keys to quit'

3. Press the green call button, the messages 'Format Fat partition' then 'Format Complete' will show, the device will then show its splash screen and begin booting.

Why screen is rotated when device is taken from holster?

This is due to the magnets in the holster and the device. Workaround is maximum opening of the holster and placing of a thumb across magnets area of the holster while taking out the device. More extreme workaround would be patching of "keybddr.dll" to entirely deactivate automatic screen rotation.

The only problem I want to be solved about crowwbow is problem with speed-dial or dial pad. I think it is the problem that all wm6 have. When entering the phone screen and starting dialing a number the list of numbers shown can only be scrolled up and down by using the screen. Is there any way to make up and down buttons do the job? It really irritates using the tiny scrol line on the screen.

Try just turning off the screen...easiest way is to use batterystatus and put a shortcut for displayoff in the system tray section of the today screen...otherwise you can link it to a soft button in the buttons menu...

I'm pretty new to this and I lack two pieces of information. One is because the original solutions are gone (links not valid) or the search for the solution comes up empty handed.

I'm running Crossbow on a T-Mobile MDA G3. The only two things I lack are mms and a decent camera.

Cool camera is apparently gone. It wasn't freeware so I can understand why.

The enable_mms.cab is nowhere that I can find. I have everything basically back to what it was with the T-Mobile 2.26 OEM ROM except for those two things and I've come up empty handed on both of those.

Anyone have an idea on the current solution to that problem?

Yes, it's the MDA Vario. I'll try the file and see, thanks. I still need to open the mms settings though. I can see them in the registry but that doesn't help me because I don't know what values to throw in there.

T-Mobile no longer sells the MDA online, stores only. This is the only shot at a software upgrade.

Some other ROMs have these items already but. . .honestly. . .I look at the list of "included" features and I really don't need that much. The function of the hardware, the original function necessary to run it on the network, and some registry tweaks would be fine. I don't need it to flush my toilet at home from work with the press of a button. (It would scare my dog anyway.)

Is there a ROM out there like that?

Check your Power settings, I have mine set to turn off my Wizard after so many minutes. Perhaps yours is actually turning off as well?

Hi,

check the "My Tones" folder, where the Ringtones should be. If you changed the folder (registry) make sure it is on the main memory and NOT on the storage card. Copy your ringtones in this folder. I am using Ringo and it worked well with this settings on any WM6-ROM I installed on my wizard (e.g. MB, Farias Real Thing, X-plore,...).

As per Registry Tweaks... I wanted to ask you guys, what registry editor are you guys using? I have Task Manager v2.7 and tried doing the following tweak in order to disable the message sent popup but every time i soft reset the phone (Cingular 8125 G4) the entry i create goes away.

First of all i wanted to thank everyone who had an input and shared their tweaks with the rest of the forum (Specially carlosdude1991 & jpflaw00).

As per Registry Tweaks... I wanted to ask you guys, what registry editor are you guys using? I have Task Manager v2.7 and tried doing the following tweak in order to disable the message sent popup but every time i soft reset the phone (Cingular 8125 G4) the entry i create goes away.

• Remove Text Message Notifications
o HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Inbox
o Next, click on Inbox (make sure the Inbox is highlighted) and select Edit, New Key
o Name the New Key as "Settings"
o Click on "Settings" (make sure the Settings is highlighted) and select Edit, New String Value
o On "Value name:", key in SMSNoSentMsg and in "Value data", key in 1
o Soft reset

Try Total commander and do the softreset by pushing powerbutton for 5 sec.

Maybe it helps.

Or use sktools to set this values. Great app at all

I havent gotten those tools you recommended yet, but i did edit the registry and tried rebooting by holding the power button like you requested above. By doing that (vs using the stylus to reset the phone) I was able to create the registry key and its now there (after soft resetting the phone) but for some reason the "message sent" pop still comes up after sending and SMS message.

One thing i noticed when creating the when creating the value under it promps you to specify "Value Type" and it defaults to REG_SZ... would i have to change that or that's what its supposed to be? Other than that, i've created the entry as stated in my previous post but it didnt get rid of the message sent pop up.

I like to use regedit, allows backups of the whole registry which is really useful if you dont know what the shakels your doing

I did the tweak using boths applications RegEdit and Taskmanager, soft reset my phone, verified that the new key is there but the "message sent" notification keeps on poping up after sending a text message. I also tried another tweak which its to set the keyboard backlight to 30 secs and neither one worked... dont know if its be but i'm doing exacly as listed on the instructions...

has anyone tried these registry tweaks on their phones?

The only problem I want to be solved about crowwbow is problem with speed-dial or dial pad. I think it is the problem that all wm6 have. When entering the phone screen and starting dialing a number the list of numbers shown can only be scrolled up and down by using the screen. Is there any way to make up and down buttons do the job? It really irritates using the tiny scrol line on the screen.

You might have had an answer to this already, but here goes.

It sounds like smartskey is installed on whatever Roms you've tried. If you press and hold one of the softkeys, it'll either perform an "ok" or pop the start menu up. If that's the case, you can turn off the d-pad functionality by editing the smartskey.ini file.

I can confirm that with my Cingular 8525 with 20070616_hermes_wwe_3.30.3.3 edition rom and Radio_v1.41.00.10 rom any ideas?

OOPS: sorry some digging and i found for myself that there is a light sensor on top right of keyboard wich will switch the light on automaticly :) I have just bougt the phone and i am VERY happy with it!! :) still digging for "message sent" ;)

1) On SMS delivery reports, how can we add the name of the contact to the phone number that appears in the SMS delivery report notification?
-> I guess we need to use SMSDRFix. Can someone point out a link to a dowloadble file for WM6?
