Everybody else is asking for confirmation of that :-)

Well that means that ROM is only 3 weeks old and he already has the device in his hands. I guess it is possible. I hope it's true!

erm... ok if it also has FM radio somehow, I am buying tomorrow...
I hope they can find the guy and maybe guide him to dump the ROM!
So what is P3600 vs P3600 Pro? Not much I found in the Net, just some italian link of someone selling a Pro.
Why isn't there ANY info by HTC I wonder. :(

Mine was one of the first ones made and it came in a black box that has Pro written in the left top corner. I think they all say that.

Yeah, mine also came in a box that said 'Pro'.
I don't think it really means anything regarding the device inside.

The guy with the "Australian WWE rom" just posted again in the German forum, and he again says it has radio:
"Radio (ja, das über das Headset) funktioniert so lala (Irgendwie muss man da noch an den Einstellungen für die Frequenzen arbeiten)."
German is not my first language, but it means more or less:
"Radio (yes, the one through the Headset) is working so so (Now and then you have to work with the setting of the frequency)."

I am from portugal, and i have been reading this post since it born, because i bougth a p3600 (that says pro in the box, but think they all say that) in the day that the test rom was released! (lucky)
I tried to communicate with somone portuguese that has already upgraded his p3600 / trinity with test rom and have found 1 guy here.
My phone was locked to vodafone (26801) and i wanted to use other provider and activate de gps on it, but afraid to loose waranty, i've contacted "novabase" whos is the supplyers of portugal and they tell me that the Oficial Gps rom will be released in the htc site and will be avaliable to download during the February month.
They told that phone looses waranty if i changed its rom to a non oficial rom, but when i asked that, i've asked 3 thins:
1- if loose waranty because of unlock the provider
2- if loose waranty because of chage it to superCID
3- if loose waranty because use another rom.
They only tell that they cannot be responsable of an ROM that was not provided from them.... so i deduce that unlocking (provider / CID) does no make to loose the waranty.
But to have the absolute sure about that i've asked again if unlock does no mather....
I've recived an answer from a Stupid Asshole, tht i am abolute sure that was not the same person who was responding to my emails before. That asshole said that the phone can only be unlocked from the provider, that looses waranty if anithing is changed like netword lock, CID, rom and more tests!!! He also says that have to use only vodafone firmwares, otherwise losses waranty!
(I've been an unlocker of nokia, siemens and sonyericsson at a few years and for those brands does not matter if firmware its original, if its unlocked or that things. I've send to waranty many phones of many people whos phones were completed flashed to unlock and to put original things like images and menus, because the things that the providers put in the phones were verrrryyyyyy ugly, and did not ever ever had problems)
So, I thinked to myself.... If unlock the phone makes it loose the waranty, and if I need to use another provider, so be it! I have to do that to use my sim card! So if it makes loose the waranty, than i have not to be waiting from the Original Update from the Provider!!!!
If not.... If i only loose waranty if change the rom (and does no matter if is unlocked or not), than i can update my phone with the Oficial ROM when it be released, and get back the Waranty!
Then,i Have unlocked it and use the rom that was released here, and i am verry glad and it works perfectly (so far)!
Now, that i am reading the this last page... and if its true that Oficial Release is Out an with Radio FM...... I only say... WWWAaaaaUuuuuuuu!
Hope that its true!

Finally decided to bite the bullet - with the uncertain timeline for an HTC branded GPS Rom - and try this Dopod Rom...
This thing ROCKS! If you are considering upgrading to this before the official release, don't hesitate (unless you don't want to pay the $40 USD for the CID unlock or are concerned about all this warranty talk) - you're just missing day after day of having fun with the fully functional (unless this FM radio thing pans out) version of possibly the best PDA phone ever made!
Sorry if I sound like an HTC fanboy...but as I sit here INSIDE MY HOUSE and look at my GPS fix (obtained in about 60 sec without a clean view of the sky)...I am right now!!!
By the way, if anyone wants any head to head (albeit low tech) comparisons of the P3600 to the P3300, let me know soon...because this new rom just sent my Artemis to Ebay!!!

If anybody could clarify some things for me, I would really appreciate it.
I have an HTC P3600 branded phone purchased in the USA. I am currently using it with Vodafone in New Zealand. Everything works very well.
Is it ok to use the dopod rom in this HTC branded phone (eg: does it work with dopod branded phone only)?
Can anyone tell me where do I find someone to perform the CID unlock?
Is it possible to roll back to the original rom if this doesn't work out? Anybody know where that is available for USA HTC branded or can it be extracted from the phone?
Are the HTC branding and applications etc retained? I'm guessing not - so does it change to dopod? If so, is there any difference?
Thanks.,
Pauly

Paulyboy - welcome. However, the first thing you will want to know about posting here is that it is considered a breech of etiquette to post questions that have already been answered in other threads and could easily be found with a simple search. For instance, most of your questions could have been answered if you had simply taken the time to read THIS thread from the beginning (the one you just posted in!) Make sure you have exhausted this resource and others (like Google) before you make your queries. Thanks...and again, welcome. :)

Has anyone tried using GPS when the cellular radio is off (flight mode)?
It looks like it doesn't work if the phone is turned off (flight mode). This is kinda strange as it doesn't even need the phone component, but I guess that flight mode shuts down many communication components, so the GPS no longer functions.

but if you start gps with tomtom or other programs and then active the Flight Mode the GPS continue to work... I have test it this morning.

Hello All,
Just to let you I know I have yesterday night changed the ROM of my P3600 and I am an happy owner of a GPS-enabled phone. Some notes about my experience:
1) The SuperCID worked like a charm. I had to pay but it was worth it.
2) flashing the new test ROM was okay. Hint: don't be an idiot like me and forget to back-up your pictures and phone numbers before doing it :-(
3) I had two GPS applications already installed: GPSInfo and TomTOm 6. Both recognized the GPS immediately (GPS on COM9) and without problems
4) No need to have bluetooth turned on to see COM9. May be off and on.
5) The internal GPS is *good*!!!! I get a fix in 5-10 seconds and the number of satellites detected is perfectly fine (8-9, I live in Switzerland). While driving I may loose the signal inside long tunnels, but that is a fact of life, no GPS can really work indoor.
Things that I do not like:
1) the "test rom" message which appears rebooting the phone (yeah, I know it is not a big deal after all...), but I hope the new ROM will fix it (hopefully an official HTC one)
Things yet to test:
1) make/receive phone calls while TomTom is running (the P3600 is connected via bluetooth to my car radio)
2) monitor the battery duration
Cheers,
Anubis

A quick update for the people in the UK. I've just been on to Orange, as my loyalty bonus is next week, and enquired as to when the M700 is released and whether it has GPS activated.
The response was it's available late February/early March, and basically, the way the 'phone was described to me, it does have GPS activated and also comes with some form of Orange mapping software.

Totally agree with you here... unlocming might cost you a bit of cash, but apart from that, it's easy as 1,2,3
5) The internal GPS is *good*!!!! I get a fix in 5-10 seconds and the number of satellites detected is perfectly fine (8-9, I live in Switzerland). While driving I may loose the signal inside long tunnels, but that is a fact of life, no GPS can really work indoor.I do have far different experiences, as I have posted allready. Both in and out of my car very slow fixes and very few satelliets... Workable, but a pain in the behind sometimes, and sometimes unworkable when no fix for 5 minutes or more, of driving between high buildings, like a mayor city (where I really need the damn thing :) )
Things that I do not like:
1) the "test rom" message which appears rebooting the phone (yeah, I know it is not a big deal after all...), but I hope the new ROM will fix it (hopefully an official HTC one)
Ah well, it's only there for 20 secs maximum?
Other thing I noticed, sometimes GPSinfo will not start and tomtom will not get a fix. It looks like the GPS subsystem got stuck. A soft reset will allways help, but before that, no program that uses GPS will even start, apart from tomtom, but that one will not get a fix ever when that happens
Things yet to test:
1) make/receive phone calls while TomTom is running (the P3600 is connected via bluetooth to my car radio)Apart from the bluetooth thing, that will work like a charm. Don;t have bluetooth to my radio, so can't comment on that
2) monitor the battery duration
Cheers,
Anubis
Duration is long enough for me. An hour and a half of navigation (with or without stand alone GPS), some phone calls and an hour of surfing (on UMTS and on WIFI) and the battery is still at 60% at least...

Just spreading this around. A great tip from mentox that allows the GPS icon is settings to be seen which allows you to change the hardware com port and software com port. I tried it - I works!!! :D
A quick hint:
GPS icon in Settings
In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings
1. Delete the DWORD marked Hide (if present)
2. Delete the DWORD marked Redirect (if present)
3. Add a DWORD called Group and give it a value of 2
4. Soft reset the device.
The GPS icon should then be available and you can change the com port on which it appears. (COM9 default)

Look in your device memory or storage memory (where ever you were planning to install Mapking). You might find the CAB file there. Click on it and it should continue with installation.

Hi, just to let everyone know, I've updated my D810 to this new WWE test ROM and everything worked very well!! I've followed the instruction to enable the GPS Icon and YES it works! See attachment below.
This baby ROCKS!! It keeps getting better and better everyday ... So much functionality built into 1 small sexy form factor ... now, if only there is an upgrade to make this device 256Mb ;-)

Oh, I've forgot to mention that this new ROM include GPS Photo. See thumnail below ... no explanation required.
The GPS satellite lock on is very fast. I am able to get 8 satellite lock on in less than 15 secs (on first load up after ROM upgrade)!!
Btw, additional feature of this ROM is that the 3G icon will change to 'H' if you connect (data connection) in a HSDPA area! Wow ... cool! I suspect this is due to the Radio version (newer) which is included in this upgrade.

Look in your device memory or storage memory (where ever you were planning to install Mapking). You might find the CAB file there. Click on it and it should continue with installation.
You may also want to check the target area where you are installing have enough memory. If you are installing from PC to main memory you need double of what the installation file size is. E.g. if installation cab file is 23mb, you need at least 46Mb of free space in the target area (Main memory or Storage).
The reason for this is that the installation cab file must be copied over into the target memory before installation can start. If you do not have enough memory, the installation will fail halfway.

For those people who want to have full backup before rom update
I would not recommend a full backup & restore between different ROMs especially registry settings (maybe database also).
It is always recommended to install from scratch once you upgraded to new rom. Hey, I've done 16 new installations since I upgraded last two week. it has become my routine (maybe habit) and it gets easier every time.
You can use to backup and restore if you decide to go back to the same Rom you backup from.

dltrip this is an english speaking forum.
As for the backup. I also don't suggest it, but I have to say something else I have noticed in my PocketPC history (which is rather long).
About 80% of the software I use for pocketpc, still work after hard-reset and clean registry. I sometimes loose settings but I can redo them. Only programs that really need to be active after boot time (like pocketplus, agenda fusion etc.) need reinstall. In fact I PREFER it that way - for every program I find that doesn't need registry or a real "install", I use it like that (I always have full file backups of my cards).
So even for me (with about 400MB of active software -I was many times a beta tester and once also a reviewer-, NOT data - think that my "programs" folder has 9 subfolders), it is not THAT hard to redo everything (not easy either - but I think MOST of people here will have an easier time).

Sorry for the late answer..... The popup is caused by the fact that Telenor is detecting that your GPRS settings are wrong (you are possibly trying to use a wrong APN) and sending an auto-configuration message which doesn't work in WM devices. If you fix your GPRS settings you should no longer receive that message.

I too have Telenor SE but no worries, the fix is easy. Go to windows catalouge and delete all files that start with Netwiz, then you can delete the values in the regestry. Works for me. To obtain settings for mms, internet ans sms just download the file 'Telenor' at http://www.myqtek.com/sweden/produkter/htc_p3600/instaallningar.aspx

Have you IMEI unlocked your HTC P3600? If not the Dopod Rom most likely will not work. Link to unlock service: http://www.imei-check.co.uk/m700unlock.php (it will cost 20 GBP)
There is no other workaround at the moment.

At the moment there is no official HTC ROM (other than Asian dopod version) that supports the GPS. HTC have not confirmed any date or if they ever will release a GPS activated firmware.

Hi
I own a HTC-P3600 with original french ROM.
I flashed to latest Dopod GPS enabled ROM and re-installed my Tomtom Nav 6 few days ago configured to use internal GPS.
I did not notice GPS or Tomtom issue at any baud rate as I tried every setup from 4800 to 115200 with no flaw.
BTW: The only issues I saw with this ROM are:
1) sometimes Tomtom seems to hang as screen is not updated. Just hitting the 'window" button down left, refreshes screen and every thing then resumes smoothly.
2) I am not able to run SmaatoCost with this ROM anymore (It was OK with french original HTC ROM)
Does anyone have simialr (minor) issues ?

Hi. Not sure if this has been asked. Is there a cab file that one can run and it does the tweaking to enable the gps icon on the Trinity?
Thanks,
Gilbert

Have you IMEI unlocked your HTC P3600? If not the Dopod Rom most likely will not work. Link to unlock service: http://www.imei-check.co.uk/m700unlock.php (it will cost 20 GBP)
Hi all, I did this as instructed but the file I received in the mail was a *.unl and my computer doesn't recogmise it as an executable file.
Have I done something wrong ?
Is that the correct format or is this just a dodgy link ?
Thanks

You did read the how-to, right?
. Save the UNL file received from us. Save the M700Unlock.zip to your computer and unzip it.
2. turn phone on and connect to pc (green ActiveSync icon in system tray)
3. start M700v1Unlock.exe and follow instructions
part of number three is that the program (M700unlock.zip) asks for a .unl file... Mmmm, where did I see such a file before??? ;)

Hi,
Did a comparison between 2 types of GPS chipset. The result is very clear that the SiRFIII chipset is much stronger in terms of signal reception.
In terms of locking on to a satellite signal (TTFL), the internal Trinity GPS chip took a substantial time (in the range of 30 sec to get a signal, abt 1 minutes plus to get a valid 3D position & abt 2 minute to got all the signal lock as captured in the picture below). The SiRFIII took less than 30sec to get to where I capture the screen shot. The last time the SiRFIII was activated was more than 24hours ago and the Trinity GPS was activated less than 12 hours ago.
However, considering that HTC is able to pack a GPS chip into such a small form factor what can I ask for more? ;-) If you are a serious GPS mapper, an external GPS receiver (SiRFIII based) is still the way to go. If you are a casual GPS user, then this is more than enough.
I am still very impress with this Trinity (Dopod D810) in terms of it's size, speed (on AKU3.3 is faster than the 838pro on AKU2.3), function (HSDPA, 3G Video Call & GPS enabled) ... I am speechless ....
Not sure if anyone had the chance to use a Dopod 838 Pro before (Hermes), but I could not get a good 3G call quality on the Hermes, but on the Trinity, the 3G call is excellent! I used to think that the 3G call problem is on the service provider but after getting my Trinity ... I believe it's a problem on the Hermes...
is there a SiRFIII ROM for the dopod d810?????

I have a DOPOD D810, with the following specs:
ROM version: 3.00.707.18
ROM date: 07/24/07
Radio version: 1.46.30.11
Protocol version: 32.79.020.19H
I cannot get the aGPS to work. I only seem to be able to allow Bluetooth GPS devices.
Anyone know what I can do?
I even tried HTC support, and they say this model does not have aGPS.
Thanks
