I've installed the ROM and enabled the Control Panel for GPS (Registry edit). It REALLY works. My GPS is on COM Port 9as stated. However, I don't have any GPS software and I'm using the Trial Version of Mapking G10 and it does fix and navigate!

GPS does work fine. I have tested with TomTom 6.x ( gps connection is configured as "BT GPS receiver, on port: COM9 GPS)

It takes longer time to recieve GPS fix then with SIRF III chipset driven GPS receiver. I had to wait for almost 6 minutes to receive GPS fix. Otherwise I have no issues so far with it.

Tested in Melbourne, Australia in build up area.

I didn't have to change / enable anything in registry. It workls out of the box. GPS chipset is initialised upron GPS connection request from navigation software (TomTom in my case).

Could someone please explain step by step how its been done?

Far as I understood you used the Paid unlocker. What have you done exactly?

Afterwards your Trinity has a SuperCID? And you are able to flash the FW offered here?

Please give me a little help. I bricked a TyTn 3 Weeks ago and I cant brick that one too. Gets a little bit expensive. ;)

unlocked device using the imei-check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291050

Once this was done device was superCID'd and I was able to just flash the firmware as normal.
So far I am very happy with the new firmware. It seems quicker.. and the GPS is working great. My initial fixes have been very rapid less than a minute. So far I am very impressed with the GPS feature (much better than I feared it would be) and doubt I will ever use my bluetooth SirfStarIII device again. Also the "E"dge Icon is now functioning under this ROM.

Oh Joy of Joy. I have just returned from a quick trip in the car with Destinator 6 to guide me home on my Trinity (Dopod 810).
Here is one trick. You MUST have Bluetooth enabled to connect to the internal chip. That must be some sort of workaround that HTC has employed to get it working.
Signal strength is pretty much the same as for the HTC 3300, but you get a lot less satellites. Side by side, the P800 gets 9 satellites, the P810 5 satellites, but the strength of those 5 is about the same.
Oh goody, a GPS all in one that receives UMTS from the Telstra Next G Network.

last month i asked HTC this :

" I'd like to know if p3600 is assembled with the same gps chip of p3300 (sirfstar III)just disabled"

this is the reply HTC gave me :
-------------------------------------
Dear Sir,

The GPS chip in the P3600 is the same as in the P3300, it is just disabled, however the chip is the Qualcom 6275. The Qualcom is a standalone GPS chip and has an accuracy of 95% within 15 mins.

-------------------------------------
Are you sure p3300 is really a SIRFIII chipset ?

just some fair comments that might be usefull for Trinity owners and other forum members.

1. this latest DOPOD D810 WWE rom comes with new radio : 1.29.
same radio has my HTC Cavalier device.

I have noticed great improvements in battery life and call stability with new 1.29 Radio.
for an instance: fully charged HTC Cavalier lasted me 2 days (full weekend) and I had 50% charge still left on Monday morning this week. That's in GSM mode, not 3G.
I did some very rough estimations and it appears that new Trinity ROM has battery life improvements as well.

2. I have noticed overal better GSM signal reception.

I will report other findings as soon as i have finished with my testings.

Camstech
23rd January 2007, 11:45 AM
I have both, as per my previous post. After hanging around outside for ten minutes (watching the Comet), I have to say that there seems no difference between the performance of the two at all. According to the Destinator GPS Console, both were picking up between 5 and 8 satellites, the strength of each was overall the same (varied greatly but neither consistently better than the other). The 3300 did pick up much quicker, getting a fix in around 5 seconds, with the 3600 taking around 2 mins. However, that may be just due to the the ephemeris file utility built into the 3300 that downloads satellite data to speed up the initial fix. There is no such utility in this ROM.
Tehe, pleased as punch!

No, this is not what I have found while using TomTom.
I have BT disabled and TomTom 6.010 has no problem connecting to the internal chip! What you are experiencing is must be some specific to Destinator issue. Destinator always was pain in the neck when it comes to connection to GPS units.

No need to turn BT on.

I'm thinking of trying out the new ROM also but I have a few questions first.

I have a dutch version right now, can I copy the dutch ROM back if i want to?

If and/or when a new dutch ROM update comes out wil I be able to copy it over the WWE ROM? or is the language switch over permanent?

The thing is I don't really mind the dutch language version, I kinda like it, but if I have to switch to english to get the gps working then so be it:)

I think that this is from a doopod program that is supposed to automatically configure network settings (like for data etc.) Since I have Cingular in the US I had the same problem. I just went in and deleted the program from remove programs... can't remember what it was called though. Then just go in and setup your data settings manually or how you usually do it.

Not at all, I totally agree with you. I'm accustomed to free cid-unlockers like the one for the Wizard. I guess I'll wait until someone develops a free one. 28 Euroes is way too high a price for some small piece of software that's probably less than half a meg in size.

Hi all

So what, software cannot cause a hardware defect. So it's your choice if you use customised firmware. They will have to repair a hardware defect even if you used other firmware.

At least, that is what I know with my limited juridical knowledge. (is that the way you pronounce that in English? I wouldn't know, I'm dutch ;) )
But please correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi all. Thanks to all in this thread for providing this great info. I'm now sucessfully managed to SuperCID and upgrade the ROM on my P3600. GPS now seems to be working fine!

A couple of questions; The new ROM installed a piece of software called "CAM Agent". Does anyone know what this is and what it does?

Also; If the "official" HTC GPS rom is released this week, will it still be possible to upgrade to that even though I have upgraded to this Dopod ROM?

Thanks for any info!

How works GPS Info? I have installed it in my Triny and it doesn´t open anything.

Is it a soft that shows the coordinates from the GPS?.

Lee

I think it is a software to use if you want to take pictures and send to a webplace.

Hi, the rom just work great on my SPM M700 (Orange France).

I have one concern, I need to soft reset to re-activate the GPS fonction.
If I start TomTom just after a soft reset, the GPS work fine. If I quit TomTom an restarts it later, the GPS doesn't work anymore.

Any ideas?

Likewise although I seem to have some issues in unlocking. However the support given by IMEI Unlock has been nothing short of suburb; still emailing potential solutions last night at 10pm which is slightly better than your average customer service reps!

20quid on top of the phone price is next to nothing so I personally think that it is worth it - even if I can't get mine working yet ;-(

As far as I noticed, on my unbranded P3600, it works all the time, however, when tomtom is started, it says "no GPS thingy/apparatus (I've got a Dutch tomtom, don't know the English word for it)" for 5 to 10 secs then changes into "no GPS signal".. Are you sure it isn't the same thing with you?

If that was a question for me, then yes, everytime I switch the pda side in and out of standby, tomtom needs to "find" the GPS apparatus, and therefor also the satellites. (but I never switch the pda side to standby when actually using tomtom)

Problem solved, I upgraded my TomTom to 6.03 and it's working perfectli.
I asume that my previous version didn't manage correctly the GPS on this phone.

Kind of sucks that I have an HTC-branded device but it's locked. What possible reason would they lock it down for?

Maybe people with an older ROM can take a look if the next registry keys exist in ROM 1.15 and 1.17:

WM 5.0 load client drivers for SD from this place [HKLM\Drivers\SDCARD\ClientDrivers\Class]. And there is no description for SDHC. But we have SDHC driver (sdhc_sc2410.dll) in Windows folder. Theoretically we can create new class in [HKLM\Drivers\SDCARD\ClientDrivers\Class] and define sdhc_sc2410.dll for client driver and create new profile in [HKLM\System\StorageManager\Profiles].
I would be try, but I have no SDHC card.

Just some personal comments:

The good things:
- Can be loaded in D810 directly (no need the supercid)
- GPS works fine (and I use the Mapking R12)
- Seems the entire performance is also faster than the old official rom (this is a personal feeling, no statistic measurement)

And the bad things:
- Icons of self created shortcuts in the HTChomeplug cannot be displayed properly (anyone who knows how to fix it?)
- There is "test rom, not for sale" on the startup splash screen (I know,,,test rom only and not official, can't request too much):p

A few possible bugs I discovered in this rom:

- A text message opens in de bottom of the screen, so I see only white and no letters. Have to scroll up to read the message.

- Sometimes my timezone changes to -8 instead of +1 (Amsterdam).

Hi. Just wondering if you install TomTom on your main memory or the mini sd card and if on the mini sd card, do you have a lag in launching the program or the response time is lagging when you ask the program to perform a task?

Thanks,

Am I the only person wondering how to make the upgrade without making something wrong?

Maybe somebody with enough experience can post an 'idiot's step by step guide to upgrading Trinity ROM after CID unlock'. :D

No, you are not; I have the same problem; have no idea how to do the udate, did you find how by now?

1. Connect your PPC to your PC
2. Make sure you have a green ActiveSync icon near your PC's time.
3. Double click RUU_Trinity_DOPODASIA_WWE_1.23.707.2_6275_1.29.00. 11_108_Test.exe
4. Follow instructions on screen
5. After 10 min, you are ready!

The rule of thumb is that today plug-ins, PIM's etc., should be installed on internal memory. Other big programs like TOM TOM, Mobipocket, Skype, TCPMP etc. are perfect for a flash card and generally perform without problems.

Today I compare my "old" S200 + Holux GPSlim 236 bluetooth GPS combo with Trinity built in GPS.

startup: almost the same
precision with iGO: where Holux see 12 satelite Trinity see 8

BUT never missed the signal for even a moment, and working stable!

So I like it : )

I think I should wait for the official one since it is expected to come out soon.
However, I cant WAIT for the GPS feature.

What should I do now?

Any noticeable increase in video playback speed with this new ROM?
And what about during gameplay?
Has the touch screen slowdown issue been resolved?

Although I use pocketdivx or SPB Mobile DVD to encode and I can watch films on my Trinity.
The quality is not the best but enough.

I have a serious problem with my Trinity, sometimes (4-5 times a day) the data of the memory card disappears.
I have to take out and put in the card every time in order to see it again, this is very annoying.
I have searched around and it seems I’m not alone with this.

If you haven’t got this problem please tell me your type of MiniSD card.

I think the problem is independent from the ROM, because I read Artemis forum and see the same complaining.
I think it is about the quality or compatibility of the MiniSD cards.
Maybe I should have opened a new thread.

I use the 'Visiting' timezone as my current local time but it resets to the same timezone as my 'Home' timezone if I accidentally tap on the date on the Today screen. This resetting occurs once I connect it up for Activesync.

Anyone know how I can disable tapping date options coming up if you tap the date on the Today screen?

I'm @work, I can't check now, but if I remember well, it's in your computer activesync settings.

Additionnaly, in the today screen you should have the possibility to set two different times : "Local" ("Origine" in french edition) et "Other city". I set the same GMT shift for both, so that if my face push some buttons during a call it doesn't change the time ;)

all of my outlook reminders, got a -8 hrs back than the original timings....
i don't know why this is happening, it seems to be that it took -8hrs after upgrading in regional settings and synched-changed everything upon its will so now i need to change everything back to +2 that my regional settings are.

i don't know if this appeared when working with active gps or something else interfered.

i 'll try to have a thorough examination of the situation and come back with any findings that i 'll get.

Thanks for that, I guess that'll do for now, but they really should fix that because I still would like to sync the time on connection. I guess it would be okay if I knew of tiny (lite + invisible) freeware app that can run in the background and ntp sync on net connection.

Any GPS software that supports NMEA standard should work fine. Set it to COM 9, baud rate at 9600 and it should work fine.

For me I need to use GPSgate to convert NMEA output to Garmin format in order to use Garmin Que GPS software.

Hi,

Did a comparison between 2 types of GPS chipset. The result is very clear that the SiRFIII chipset is much stronger in terms of signal reception.

In terms of locking on to a satellite signal (TTFL), the internal Trinity GPS chip took a substantial time (in the range of 30 sec to get a signal, abt 1 minutes plus to get a valid 3D position & abt 2 minute to got all the signal lock as captured in the picture below). The SiRFIII took less than 30sec to get to where I capture the screen shot. The last time the SiRFIII was activated was more than 24hours ago and the Trinity GPS was activated less than 12 hours ago.

However, considering that HTC is able to pack a GPS chip into such a small form factor what can I ask for more? ;-) If you are a serious GPS mapper, an external GPS receiver (SiRFIII based) is still the way to go. If you are a casual GPS user, then this is more than enough.

I am still very impress with this Trinity (Dopod D810) in terms of it's size, speed (on AKU3.3 is faster than the 838pro on AKU2.3), function (HSDPA, 3G Video Call & GPS enabled) ... I am speechless ....

Not sure if anyone had the chance to use a Dopod 838 Pro before (Hermes), but I could not get a good 3G call quality on the Hermes, but on the Trinity, the 3G call is excellent! I used to think that the 3G call problem is on the service provider but after getting my Trinity ... I believe it's a problem on the Hermes...

Could anyhelp and get involved in this thread?!?! (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1122985&postcount=428)

I second that, I think we are putting too much efforts in porting OS parts from Trinity (dll, registry...) when we still dont get valid GPS data in bootloader.

Radio chipset (MSM6275) is completely separate from OS side, it has its own processor and OS communicates with it through RIL, if someone with a Trinity can install Xbridge (http://arisme.free.fr/hacks/binaries/XBridge.zip) we will be able to "spy" how the GPS is initialized and handled on Trinity and replicate the same in Hermes bootloader. IMHO this is the way to go, before thinking on OS side.

(Sorry for the hijack btw..)

i send an email to HTC just today and they reply :

Thank you for your enquiry concerning your P3600 device. The HTC P3600 currently does not offer GPS Functionality. There is a possibility of an update to enable the GPS functions of the device at a future date, and we hope to be able to do this as soon as possible, but we cannot and do not guarantee this. If you buy the P3600 for possible future GPS functionality, you do so entirely at your own risk. Should you have any other problem, please do not hesitate to call us. I ignored that on mine and it works fine, he found his own network... I even removed that software.

my GPS, on the other hand doesnt, it can get "active" but i still havent got any signal here in Lisbon, Portugal...
:(

Works fine here, at Covilhã - Portugal
(funciona perfeitamente na Covilha - Fundão, com o tomtom 6.03)

Could have been a issue for being around too many buildins, strange...

----

Does may appear off-topic, but I assure you its about THIS specific rom.

I tested this ROM (and liked it), but now I'm back on my old Qtek S100 (magician) and miss the nice ringtones this rom had..

I miss specifically the classical rings (midis ?) and the sms alert on a woman voice with a British accent...

Could any kind soul upload these to a rapidshare website or so?
I'd really appreciated... Thank you.
