Hi all,
putty (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html) has just been renewed and now allowing for serial connections!
All you have to do is download it and configure it according to these settings (and select [X] serial!):

@Mod: Please make sticky.
Cheers, Chatty.

Made sticky for a while. I have just tried it and works fine... nice thing over mtty is that you can copy-paste commands in putty without problems. The downside is that can't use 'lnb' command to load files from host... so it's still not a complete mtty replacement.

Since it is open source it could be modified to "learn" the lnb command...

You may check out "TuTTY", which is PuTTY in a version with serial connections (they were originally implemented here), TuTTY seems to be a bit more stable to me and has a possibility to make folders for your connections.

Putty has never crashed on me. And serial connections are now build in. So if that was the only reason for TuTTY being built I can't see anyone now.

Wow... That's a great news to me; using many years on putty, never has any issue (except missing serial connection)...

The picture in post 1 is incorrect. All the fields are filled in correctly, but the 'serial' button has not been selected.
First: click 'serial' button, then define port as specified and speed.
That's it.:)

I follow all the instructions but can not open the \\.\WCEUSBSH001
What's the problem?
1) If you're running Vista, it won't work. Try VMware + XP.
2) Otherwise, does mtty work? If it does, see 3).
3) Have you disabled USB in ActiveSync?
4) If you did, then do you select serial connection?

1. Vista works, but with old activesync driver OR using QMAT with WDMC driver
2. USB connection must be disabled in activesync preferences as already said
3. Try \\.\WCEUSBSH002 , \\.\WCEUSBSH003 or \\.\WCEUSBSH004 instead

Gronostaj,
When you say use VMWare + XP do you mean that XP running inside a VM hosted on VISTA can access the USB port and control the phone?
If so this is good news for me.
Thanks,

VMWare should be able to catch a USB-Connection like it in the vm itself

One can also use PSAS (http://revskills.de)
=> works for all Windows Versions without installing old drivers and Trial is for free (no more time limit as in QMAT).
How to use :
Windows XP :
1. Start PSAS and go to "Hardware Forensics->Use Mobile Ports".
2. Select appropriate com port (\\.\WCEUSBSH001 should be fine for most) in com config tab.
3. Select "Modem Port (Async)" Tab.
4. Press "Start Serial(XP)"
5. Enter any command you wish into edit box at the left and press Enter button or click onto "Send ASCII via Serial".
Windows Vista / 7 :
1. Open up Windows Mobile Device Center, go to Preferences and uncheck "Use usb connections"
2. Start PSAS and go to "Hardware Forensics->Use Mobile Ports".
3. Select "Modem Port (Async)" Tab.
4. Press "Start USB(Vista)"
5. Enter any command you wish into edit box at the left and press Enter button or click onto "Send ASCII via USB".

I have just tried putty and can't get it to connect.
Am I doing it right?
1. Disable USB connections in WMDC.
2. Put HD2 into bootloader.
3. Connect HD2 to usb cradle
4. run putty and configure it as shown in picture.
If I do this it says host doesn't exist.
One thing confusing me.. it says select serial but in the picture you have ssh selected??
**Just realised this is corrected elswhere in this tread sorry, I'll try to RTFM**
** Now putting all the params in with Serial selected but it now says can't open serial port???
** when should I connect the phone to usb cradle? and should it read USB at the bottom when connected??
Any help appreciated.

I've been trying to get PSAS working for ages and having no luck.
I screws my win 7 completely.
first I couldn't open the archive. Tried from another pc and transfered it and it opened. Ran the install and it seemed to work.
When I open the program it says cand find file VCOMP90.dll please reinstall.
Tried reinstalling still the same.
Tried uninstalling and it left some residual stuff and hung my pc on boot.
Re booted from win7 cd and got back into system but not sure this is the software for me?
Just downloaded and tried version 1.06. Still the same :(
Looks like putty may be my best option as I can get it to run but can't seem to connect it. Can anyone help (see my previous post)??

I am following those instructions, or trying to :o, but it won't connect.
I just want to be sure I'm reading it correctly and things are happening correctly and in the right order...
1. Disable USB connections in WMDC>Mobile Device Settings>Connection Settings. (does it matter what the other options are set to??)
2. Put HD2 into bootloader.
3. Connect HD2 to usb cradle (the bootloader displays USB at this point?)
4. run putty and configure it as shown in picture (except serial selected as pointed out elsewhere).
If I do this I get the error "unable to open serial port"
I have tried naming the serial line \\.\WCEUSBSH001/2/3/4 as sugested in another post but still get the same result.

Thanks pathologo,
Yes thats exactly what I am doing as described by you :)
and yes I have flashed via USB with bootloader :)
Does it matter what the other settings in WMDC>Mobile Device Settings>Connection Settings are set to? (i.e. comm1 etc.)
Should the bootloader screen show USB when connected?
Thanks for time on this it is getting frustrating now
I don't seem to be able to get either putty or psas running. Glad I didn't try mtty looking at how difficult that is to get going :o

I guess I am ignorant. In MTTY it would show responses from device.
example when you use readCID it would echo CID 00000000 or something.
when I use putty, I dont see any responses. I imagine it is a setting in putty but I dont know. Yalls help is appreciated.
