View Full Version : Crossbow Syncing for a Mac OS X user... because of ActiveSync 4.5 requirement

So I decided to test out PDAViet3, and I figured I would run into a speedbump. Here it is...

Installed Crossbow with an XP pc. No problem.
Installed ActiveSync Beta 4.5 (figuring I probably would hit a bump...soon). No problem.
Installed some cabs, software using the ActiveSync program. No problem.

Go to sync my Wizard with The Missing Sync 3.0.1 for Mac OS X. Problems begin, as I hoped would not happen. Instead of the Missing Sync feedback saying "connected" it actually said "rejected." I tried again, and the next time the phone actually said that I need ActiveSync 4.5.

I tried sending individual contacts, it wants to pair each time and not send the data.

How else can I get my contacts and calendars onto my phone. Any good ways to get a .ics file worth of calendar files onto a PC for Activesync, or a server. I also, of course have a .abbu file filled with contacts.

Anyone have any better ideas for doing this? i would prefer not to use a PC, I don't have an Intel Mac either. Any Mac programmers, hackers, who know how to make The Missing Sync think it's identity is Activesync 4.5?

Are the structures of the syncing much different that this shouldn't work? Any ideas? Mac users? Mac developers? It's a long shot, but I'll keep my fingers crossed...

Just an odd question, have you tried sync'ing via both Bluetooth and USB? Also since you already created an ActiveSync connection with a Windows PC, can you also create a sync connection with a MAC? I know on a windows PC you sync between 2 computers, but i wasn't aware that this worked on a mac.
Try deleting the partnership in activesync on the PocketPc (of course after you do a back up or resync to make sure your xp computer has an uptodate contact details).

Also just picked this up from there website: A WM5 device is "Unable to connect if your phone has GPRS enabled (or some other network service). Try putting the device in 'Flight Mode' and then connect" this would probably hold true to a WM6 device.

Hope that helps.

I have tried Bluetooth and USB on two machines that I have been syncing it with no problems on WM5. I should have known there would be problems, but I'm going to try and solve them.

The problem with the Bluetooth sync, unlike before, with Crossbow, it will only display a serial connection, not activesync.

USB I am getting much further with, it just will not accept the device, but it does try.

Also, note that I use Missing Sync 3.0.1 for Pocket PC, it basically creates the ActiveSync connection, and includes the modules for Contacts (Mac Address Book), Calendar (iCal), Tasks (iCal), Bookmarks (Safari, FF, etc.), Pictures (iPhoto), Music (iTunes) and a few others...
There is a file that the program usually installs on the WM device when you pair them, it is just called MissingSync.cab. I am going to upload that, maybe I need to do some reading around here, so I can browse some of the resources in this cab, and see if I can fool it to think it is ActiveSync 4.5 through some simple string hopefully.

Here is the cab, I don't think there is any problem with sharing it, I don't think it has much functionality without the program itself... If anyone else can find something in this file that is holding me back that would be really helpful.

UPDATE: Just found these strings, but I don't know if this is referring to whether or not the software will install to the phone...

<parm name="OSVersionMin" value="4.0" />
<parm name="OSVersionMax" value="5.99" />

Another Update: Because I'm still kind of a newbie, I'm looking everywhere, I was hoping the wiki would have an answer, how do I edit that in a cab and repackage it? I'm trying to decide if I need stuffit/dropstuff, or something more specific to pocket pc. I can use a pc with XP, but prefer to use my Mac whenever possible....so I really would like software answers for either platform.

i am a mac user too and have exactly the same problem as you. So we are on the look out for a solution unless missing sync application has to come out with an upgrade for crossbow roms.:)

I contacted the manufacturer, and they said they don't even have a beta yet that will work with Crossbow...

That sounds like a request that would have to be made at a forum such as M_J or C_M, I bet those guys are good. I don't want to bring up the warez aspect, but hacking is one of the things they do best...

Now, what we need to figure out is the difference between old activesync and new activesync. Is it really that different? Or is it one line of code, some string saying what to sync with....because we already tried fixing the Missing Sync cab file to support up to WM11 (PLENTY of room for error).

So now I have no clue what to do but beg MarkSpace to do something to get us working with Crossbow. Let's send them a Wizard with Crossbow. Volunteers? ;-)

I even posted it in the missing sync site. They asked me what device I was using and I said jaq4. Theyasked me how i got it and I said imported from Dubai. Understand they are working on it too but wonder how long it will take.:rolleyes:
