Hi to all,
I, among some others am experiencing battery drain since upgrading to WM6 even though I am running under the same circumstances as before the upgrade with just a few less programs running etc. If anyone can shed any light on a fix for this or suggestions (turning off bluetooth has no great effect) then I would gladly like to hear them.
I know Malik is also experiencing the problem so I know I am not alone.
Thanks.

I am experiencing the exactly the same great battery usage rates between faria, super rom, and wm6. All overclocked at 260.

when u overlock a device it drains the battery much much faster then u expect so to help that don't overlock but if u overlock then the battery goes mad because overlocking takes great deal of amount out to make the device faster.

I overclocked to 264 (omap) / 286 (bs) MHz without issues. It seems the cpu drains the batt a lot only during "heavy" task execution, e.g. playing a game or watching a movie that is not adapted to qvga. Most of time it just sleeping, as before.
So, i flashed wm6 (pdaviet v.3) and have noticed the same or even less battery drain as before (when my wizard is left alone). You have to check all you're installed to fugure out "the swine" ;)

If anything, I've found WM6 to be *better* on battery life than any of the previous WM5 AKUs.
AKU 3.3 would be the best in the WM5 range.

I've also found that the battery life on my device has dramatically increased. I don't have to charge it now for about an extra two days compared to before.

This has been an issue with me as well. I'm running the clean Crossbow ROM (aka Orwells1984 et.al.) Here are the programs I have been running:
2.19 radio rom
Resco Med. Suite 5.42
Pocket Weather
Sprite Backup
Smartskey
Omapclock @ 240mhz
CE Star
I had issues with the today plugin from Resco cutting down my battery life on the old iPAQ 6365. Haven't had ANY problems with previous AKU 3.x versions.

If you're using omapclockplus your device is at normal speeds during standby. I think its the crossbow radio that drains it. Switching between OSs might not change your rom, leaving the battery drain

CB does not come with radio. CB is only OS updated.

maybe it really is the radio... i moved to 2.17 and since then no battery problems, but im not for sure its that, but possibly since i have same apps installed on fresh WM6 as before when i had battery probs.

Well, I finally did a hard reset and lo and behold the battery drain problem is gone. I had it off the charger for most of the day and kept the WiFi on a bit as well. The ROM on which I really noticed the problem was the Pdaviet3. I'm going to reinstall the Resco Today plugin and see if that does anything. I love this ROM. Clean and fast!

try disconnect "Error reporting". It's on by default.

Weird.. I did this last night too and it seems to have cured the problem...
Anyway I still have the automatic power up issue... Is there a solution other than locking the device? i.e. A registry edit to turn off push email?

I think the battery drain problem MAY have been solved by the hard reset as well.
Tomorrow will be my second day of use since hard reset so I will report my findings.

I remember (when I had Motorola MP220) advice for longer battery life: device should be 100% charged when flashing new ROM. If not, charge it 100% and do the hard reset.
BTW, I had battery drain with Pdaviet ROM v3, 'cose the smatskey was set for overclocking by default.

Had the same problem: batter drained 2 or 3 times as fast as regularly.
Used:
- TomTom6
- SPB Weather
- PocketPC Wakeup
- Resco todayplugin
- Todaytime
Just did a hard reset and reinstalled TomTom & SPB weather.
Everything ran fine, til I installed PocketPC Wakeup.CAB...
So that one might be the problem....
Anyone else tested their software for batterydraining problems?

batterystatus might also be a problem.
I hard reset, did not install batterystatus but installed rest of my normal apps; this solved both my wakeup issues and battery drain issues.
P.S. simply uninstalling batterystatus did nothing, had to reset.

No batterystatus is not the cause because the first time when I had the issue was without batterystatus ever being installed. The problem hasn't really been back even though I now have it installed.

It's weird. Then it seems to completely random.
BTW, what version of batterystatus are you using? Maybe different versions behave differently.

For me it seems that batterystatus IS causing the drain.

There is something funny with these WM6 Roms.
I have flashed the same ROM 3 times.
All 3 instances I loaded all the same Plug In's
Latest Batt Status, SBP Weather, Pocket Breeze Latest Beta and Phone Alarm light 1.58.
1st time all worked well until I made a boo-boo in the reg and did a re-flash
2nd time exact same config my battery would be at 20% after 6 hours of light use. Did a re-flash for the 3rd time and again the exact same config bat is now 80% after 8 hours.
I have seen this on older Roms too. They would work for a few weeks and then without me loading or adding any other software the device will start locking up or loosing power. I will hard reset and everything is back to normal:confused:
I call it M$ Disease
