OK, here's the scoop:

The Extended Rom does have a Carrier Settings Utility and a couple of extras but nothing that is critical to the operation of the Rom. If you have a G4 which won't allow the Extended Rom to write don't worry you will be fine.

Any posts in this thread asking about CID unlocking WILL BE MODERATED.

And best of all there is a choice of page poll 8mb 6mb and 4mb roms, note that the lower the page pool the more ram you will have but performance will decrease.
For ram freaks I may be inclined to post a rom with 2mb page poll! But bear in mind that you may miss 1 year of phone calls before the device rebbots.ehe

A special thanks goes to Bepe and Risidoro for helping with the page poll business.

Credit also goes to everyone that created the freeware software included in the rom ,and also everyone that helped testing the rom.

Thanks for this rom, I really liked the first one but soem of the problems were too much to live with and I was very close to going back to one of the earlier ones.

I dont know much about page pools but from the first post here you say a smaller page pool the less performance.

Why would anyone want less performance and more ram? what is the benefit of more ram?
Thanks again
I have just downloaded and will no doubt spend the next few hours salivating.

Yep.. To be specific I didn't have any audio bug, was happy.. Until i received a call.. Then audio from the player came out.. And it's the same every time :(
After soft reset audio is OK.. After a call - everyone hears my music and calls.. BTW. This is with headphones plugged in, on G4 (

Glad to hear the about the page pool guys, about the sd booting slower I guess that's why in the previous rom all the shortcuts I had for apps on the start menu that were installed on the sd would have blank icons.

Also registry wizard already installed? genious guys, pure and simple genious. Word of advice though, since registry wizard won't recognize the AKU version it won't dissable some options that you shouldn't play with, namely on "TWEAKS 2" page "Taskbar Date/Time" be sure to uncheck that as it will be checked by default and if you apply that tweak the area where the clock is of your taskbar will probably get screwed up. I know of at least that one, I pretty much use all the other ones with no problems.

Anyways can't wait to play with the proper versions of these roms (I had installed the one with the broken TCMP, but before I said anything Faria had already noticed and was already reuploading the fix..... what a guy)

from the WM blog:

The Page Pool
Applications use RAM in two ways. There is code that runs, and there is data that is created while it is running. On a NOR device, the code can run directly from the ROM and not be loaded into RAM first. This process is called XIP (eXecute In Place). NAND devices can't XIP, so their code is loaded into RAM and executed from there. If you don't have a Page Pool, this code is loaded into normal RAM. The Page Pool is a mechanism to limit how much code is loaded into normal RAM. With a Page Pool, we can unload code that hasn't been used in a while and reload it later if we need to. We can't do that without a Page Pool.

Even after reading that it is still not clear what the paging pool is used for - can't understand why it increases performance!? Does anybody have a better description - didn't find anything when googling... :(

How I understand the explanation: if there is no page pool at all then all the started apps will go into RAM and reside there. With a page pool code that is "not needed" at the moment will be unloaded and reloaded (from NAND) later. But then - where is the performance boost??

Is it just the amount of people trying to download it simultaneously

I'm no programmer, but it sounds quite a lot like the use of Virtual RAM back in the day of DOS and whatever the heck they called RAM between 640-1024K. The bigger the 'window' for swapping non-current data between RAM and a HDD, the better the speed performance.... I remember that there was also a king of tipping point, below which swapping was effectively one-way, and above which it was effectively two-way.

rpodos

Regardless of how page pooling actually works, are there any guidelines or rules of thumb for page pool size versus free program memory after soft reset?

(While I'm not a "RAM hog", I do prefer more than less, as I live with MSVC, emoze, and sometimes a GPS app)

DoctorT

mmmhhh - let me guess - 1MB less PP means 1MB more free RAM... ;)

But I still don't understand the sense of a PP - on a desktop the page file is just needed if you don't have enough RAM - it doesn't boost the performance, just let's you run more apps at once if you just have little RAM (BTW, yesterday I saw a PC with 128MB RAM which was running WinXP - unbelievable...)...

rpodos

I know page pool versus program mem is basically 1:1... but starting from where? It's not as simple as going from 12 -> 8 results in 30MB free for stock.

Also, if anybody has suggestions, I have two questions:

1) Lately I've been following the suggestion to flash back to 2.26 stock first before something new... I thought I saw in the last week or so a suggestion to start from Molski 2.26 Final (which is what I have on right now). Yes? No?

2) What radio is recommended? I am on 2.47 now. Leave it, change that first, or after?

Thanks! This ROM looks awesome!

Great work Faria! All the good stuff from v1 but more ram and apparent stability. Thanks to all who contributed!

One observation, saw this on the v1 ROM too, but not Molski 3.0, 2.26.

The built in A2DP detects my headset (Plantronics 590) and the fidelity is good but all sound is in MONO and not stereo. Sounds was in stereo with the other ROM's

Also, I cannot seem to get the CPU scaling in Battery status to work, overclocking works fine, but the auto scale function doesn't seem to do anything.

Ideas anyone?

Sticking with this version, makes the phone what I've wanted for a year and a half, nearly perfect!

A2DP now in stereo, found the fix in another forum.

Set registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings value name "UseJointStereo", set the value to 2 then soft reset.

Value set to 1 mixes all A2DP sounds down to mono

It brings back some of the hiss that some notice more than others, but I'll take the small hiss with stereo.

Faria,

Thank you very much for continuously supporting the Wizard community with your finely-crafted ROMs. I know how much work goes into getting them "just right" and if I knew half as much as you about this stuff I'd post some of my cooking for others to try. But what's the point? I end up using your ROMs instead of my own most of the time!

I have just one question about this latest v2 ROM:

What is this "elatepushservice.lnk" in the \windows\startup folder? I've done an exhaustive search both here and elsewhere on the web and so far the best I've come up with is that it might have something to do with MMS picture posting. I never send MMS but so far I've not been able to send any (to myself at least) with or without this service running. The behavior is slightly different but still nothing sends. I'm on Cingular US in case it matters and I did not specifically sign up for MMS as this is a business plan.

Thanks again!

Mike

Why not the default cplPhone?
Go to HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds, Ringtones key :)

Flexer
28th January 2007, 02:02 PM
Well, as far as I know, cleartype is a "screen rendering engine" that's used to make clear, smooth fonts on LCD displays..

That's the thing. I want to DISABLE it.. Well, I go to cpl-Screen and disable it. But when I go to messaging, and open any message, the text there is "smooth" aka with cleartype on.. (Everywhere else it's off)
The funny thing is that when I select any text, it's with cleartype off, and because the width of clearetype'd text is smaller, it creates artifacts.. try it yourself :(

Dear faria :)
I did some checks.. And here it is, the audio bug.. How to reproduce it:
1. Plug in your headphones in the phone
2. Open an audio player, start some music
3. While listening ask sb to call your phone, answer the call
4. Now you can already hear the person speaking through the speaker AND the headphones.

IR is Always ON even on the original Rom.. But the battery lasted longer there..
My batt went from 100% to 50% over 6 hours of night.. I haven't touched it (except for the mail-checking every 20 mins over GPRS).. It's not horrible I'd say.. But I will take all that I can from the battery and then charge it to 100% again.. Hope it helps, and you try it too ;)

Guess i'd never noticed before! My Vario has been next to my laptop quite a bit over the last 24 hrs, and my laptop keeps finding it via infra red, if it hadnt been for that i would have been none the wiser! I'll keep an eye on my battery life and see how it goes over the next couple a days! there must be a registry hack somewhere to turn it off!

I put on the 6Mb version very early this morning. I opted for this version as I am hoping that smaller page pool=more free Ram=better multitasking. I like having my mp3s with TomTom:) .I am very pleased with the speed of this ROM. I had to manually enter GPRS and MMS settings for UK T-mobile but install went faultlessly otherwise.
My only bug so far has been the non appearance of icons within the settings program, see attached screen capture. I am wondering if this is possibly caused by the 6Mb page pool and a conflict with some cache settings within Registry Wizard. ?Glyph cache and Enhanced performance. Can anyone recomend appropriate settings for the above tweaks on a 6Mb pagepool ROM.
Faria, once again you and your team have "raised the bar" with this release.

They all came back after a soft reset. I have got to thinking that all the different page pool sizes would have different needs with regard to Glyph cache 16384, Enhanced performance 8192, increase font cache 0 My settings are in red. I am in the dark about what is optimal.

1. Plug in your headphones in the phone

First of all - hello All :)

Fantastic work faria, thank you. 8mb pool rom is really fast on my G4 unlocked Wizard. I've never seen it that fast before :)

Three things:
-after software reboot or switch off sometimes Wizard freezes, both leds blinkin green and nothing happened, touch screec is dead, buttons too. Only soft reset helps.

-is it true that IR is Always ON with this ROM? I haven't seen that on my original ROM but now I can't check it.

-battery is really dying quickly.. too fast :(

-why the E(dge) icon is always on? Oops, thats's four ;)

Different topic, so I'm going to make another post right here...

Faria, I had trouble with the Skype in the Extended Rom.
I installed it smoothly, onto the Device Memory, launched, and then it gave me two error messages saying "Can't start," and "Missing Components" or something of the like.

Could someone else try this out? When I first ActiveSynced my phone it tried to install Skype, or remove it, I'm not sure what the order of events were anymore, but even after removing the program and reinstalling onto the Device and the Storage Card, I could not get the version from the extended ROM to work.

I downloaded the Low CPU version of Skype from their website, and it installed and ran fine. No major problems there...

I've got to hand it to you though. Amazing ROM, beats the PDAViet and leaked Crossbow's hands down! We'll just wait until Crossbow gets released and stable, and hopefully you can cook us something else delicious but for now, I'm damn happy!

I always loved the Eten skin from Geo77.
However it uses an other dll than the AKU 3.3 Faria's ROM uses.

So I took Geo77's Eten skin, edited and signed the phcanrc.dll from faria's Rom like Geo77's dll.
Then I builded a new installer (both Landscape and Portrait are included).

All credits go to Geo77 for building the skin.
The original Thread:

Small Preview (from above mentioned thread)

Known bugs:
First time after reset, numbers don't apear alligned in dailer, simply open and close the keyboard will allign it properly.
- Still searching why this happens, strangely it only happens once after a reset..

I have opened a new thread to discuss the skins:

Could you please explain what's better then Crossbow ? This is not critics, I just would like to know before I start installing again.

I think what i meant was that it works better for me. I am an OS X user for one, I can't ActiveSync with Crossbow, I can use any OS before crossbow...

I like the tweaks of this ROM as opposed to PDAViets, this one feels more complete with the Edge, and a more stable Wi-Fi connection for me.

HTML email doesn't do too much for me, because all I get that requires HTML email is spam and newsletters!

I like crossbow, great menus and look, the remote desktop feature may be kind of cool, but if it doesn't do too much on a Mac, and I am not sure, because I did not try it yet, it won't work for me.

No contacts, calendars, tasks, or syncing on a Mac for Crossbow, renders it useless to me. Besides, Faria has done a great job with his ROM!

Also for some reason when I go to send a new text and I type the person's name it shows me their number twice. I did hide sim contacts and only have 1 entry of each person showing under Contacts.

From what rom did you upgrade? I seem to recall someone saying that the way contacts are stored in the device changed for aku 3.x roms or something like that, so backups made prior to aku 3.x won't work on 3.x roms. I'm not 100% sure on that though. I think it was an spb issue, since I use PPCBKPContacts and it works with any rom I have installed.

That is exactly right; if you upgraded from a 2.x to 3.3 the storage is different. If the only place your contacts are stored is spb backup you will need to downgrade your rom, restore your contacts, move them to the desktop pc (e.g. outlook but I think you can sync with yahoo intellisync, at least it claims to, to a yahoo account online, but this through the pc), then reinstall the 3.3 rom and sync to the desktop.

yes...uponn extended testing i fond out that 2.5 was making the phone app run slow due to some rendering issue in the smardialer skin, this also cause some of the buttons of smartdialer to appear squashed and one of them would disappear.i will make a cab with the 2.5.when i got time.;)

Does anyone know the path for the device lock to put into InchTray, I've tried looking in the windows folder on my device but can't see it.
Other than that this is a great upgrade, I love the Petrol Blue colour scheme for the Crossbow theme.
And been playing with Windows Live and love it, bit slow to load maps but......

Many Thanx in advance.

I am running exactly the same apps with the same configuration (I made a cab file to import my settings) as before on WM6 - here is my conclusion:

farias ROM is by far the fastest ROM I ever tried (although I installed just 6MB pool size) - after reset it also has more RAM available (25 vs. 23 on WM6), but it still drops like crazy (now I am running it for around 20h and available RAM went down to 10MB!) and the storage card takes up 5-6MB RAM vs. 2MB on WM6. Battery drops faster than with WM6.
Oh, and almost forgot: SPB GPRS monitor works on WM6 - what's newer in your AKU3.3 than on WM6, faria?? Is it worth to use that new radio stack or whatever - I think for many people it's essential to monitor their usage...
Night mode of camera doesn't work - already mentioned two times, but as nobody replied I assume I am the only one with that issue...

The remaining advantages of this ROM are the speed and the additional storage memory (as some apps I need are already integrated), but not sure whether I can live with forced resets at least once per day and without camera night mode (btw, installed the same version of coolcamera than on WM6, but here night mode doesn't even work with coolcamera...) :(

Somebody can send me ringtone files included in this rom?
I must uninstall v3.3 because have some problems but I liked ringtones, so if somebody can send to calomx@gmail.com I apreciate.
I think are .wma or .wav files in "ring" or "windows" folders...

Thanks in advance.

Woke up again this morning, hit the power button and saw a brief white flash and that was that. The GSM and bluetooth LEDs kept blinking, so I know the hardware wasn't dead, but it would not turn on without a soft reset. Unfortunately, this is the second day in a row this has happened and I need a reliable phone for the next few days more than an unreliable toy so sorry, it's back to T-Mobile 2.26 for me. For what it's worth, I was using the 8mb variety.

This ROM is absolutely sick.
I've been wanting to get me a TYTN due to not being completely satisfied with speed issues. Happy to report speed is no longer a concern.

It's like I got me a new phone.

Thanks for all the time and effort you put into these projects.

I found that with the 8mb version my BatteryStatus Bluetooth icon in the tray would dissapear after awhile. I updated to the new beta version and now it's reliably there.

Also found that with Microsoft Voice Command, it tells you who is calling in your bluetooth headset. no need for any other updates (idtransfer) anymore.

Great rom in other regards. so fast.

First let me say great Rom work Faria, I have not been having all of the problems that everyone else has been having with the AKU3.3 rom or this version 2 with with 8mb page. I am a total noob on upgrading roms and read the threads and then jumped in and tried it. I do as you stated and started with tmoble 2.26 after I unlocked it and upgraded from there. But to show my noob-ness. I have a question dealing with bluetooth. I have the Nokia BH-600 head set, and want to listen to music and take my phone calls. I see that there are A2DP hacks, do I have to install them or are they in the rom? Can someone point me to what I need to do? I have the headset setup and can take calls but if I play music in media player it comes out of the phone and nothing in the headset. I have read all over to try this and that, but nothing, not sure what is baked in this rom and what I need to still do.

I have G3 Rom 3.3.0.0 WWE, date 11/10/06, radio 02.25.11, protocal version 4.1.13.12, ExtRom faria V4.0, IPL & SPL 2.26 with Cingular in USA

any recommendation on should i upgrade radio I notice a great deal of people have 2.47, but then a great deal of people are having problems with the roms I am not.

Awesome Job guys, you have no idea how much appreciated your work is. Flashed the v2 of your rom and i'm loving it, quite fast and stable too. Haven't noticed any major problems yet, but i have a couple of questions:
1. I also experienced the audio problem, anytime i listen to music using media player with my headset plugged in, the audio also comes out of the the phone's speakers. i will try using the fix posted earlier and see how that goes.
2. I also noticed streaming media player was removed from the program list. after searching however, i found the program in the \windows folder. I was wondering if there was a way to put the player on the program list without using the conventional copy and paste method?? I would also be grateful if someone could help me out with the settings and also links i could visit to listen to streaming media. Thanks a million.
Once again, awesome job Faria. keep up the good work.

The ROM is Great. I will be more happy if the dialer problem are solved.

1. in Call History: i want to change the order of the list with latest on the top. because if i want to see the missed call, i have to drag down to see the missed call. In tmobile rom it is in proprer.

2. in dial pad if i start pressing numbers, dialer has to start search from call history and contact to get most matching numbers and display below the number type. i saw this feature in latest tmobile rom.

3. is it possile to exract the tmobile dial only install in this 3.3 rom.

thank in advance for the gurus.

The BH-600 (all mono headsets) is not meant for music. You need to install BTAudio:

Thanks man, this ROM is great. It has some minor problems (as I can see, from other ppl), but you and all ppl here are working on them and it will all be just fine. I'm having the same problem as I did with V1 of this ROM. I'm unable to sync my calendar over the air with my Exchange server. I have exactly the same issue with Crossbow. If I choose not to sync the calendar, everything else syncs fine. Switching back to 2.26 eliminates the problem. Faria - do you have an idea what could be causing this?

Thanks for any help.

Faria & other Mods, this is not the way to continue. Mark posted his experiences about this ROM. This is the Xth time I notice that this forum is turning in to Faria, Molski & Kyphur forum, where your ROM's are posted as stickies and other are discussed away. Don't forget it's a forum.

Like The PDAmobiz version for instance.

Don't forget it's a forum. Sorry to hear a senior-member like Mark is leaving. Who's next Moderators ?

I don't think there's an obvious solution to this forums problems, but do agree with your concerns.

And I am extremely concerned in that Faria and friends ROM releases are my lifeline to continued use of my phone. I was getting fed up with a variety of problems and issues requiring hard and soft resets to keep it going. These 2 ROMs restored my faith in the phone. It's never run faster or better than since I upgraded to the prior ROM release and its changed my whole outlook on the phone.

However, these forums as a feedback method are not working. People hijack the threads, make useless issue posts with no supporting information, repost the same issues, etc. And I understand the frustration of the ROM authors in trying to deal with all that.

I don't have a useful solution to offer, so I'll just close by saying that I really want to continue to have access to these ROMs and the innovative work the authors are making available. More, I've become reliant on them for the ongoing usability of my phone. I do hope that we can come to some compromise that allows this to happen.

Thanks guys!

Do you have a G4 device? If so you may want to look in the previous thread for the first public beta iteration of this rom. Someone posted a link to an Italian update tool that, when used in place of the included update tool, worked for the G4 users that received this error.

All the details are in the other thread though. The thread is titled:WM5 AKU 3.3 Rom for G3 & G4 Wizards (includes Crossbow stuff and many enhancements)

before calling me a prick ,don't be one....the warning was for the guy that was asking for the ring tones in here and in another tread [not for you] ,...crosposting is not alowed....so don't use his warning in your defense....... you posted the folowing...
so what exactly are you saying?
did you provided in info about your setup or what you have installed etc etc....not a thing......so how do you expect people to fix problems if you have not the decency of posting a good feed back....???

what did you expect....???? = NOKIA

now all you want and some otherS is take take and then some more....and as soon there is an alleged bug.....you Guys says i moving to another rom!!!!!
well thanks that fixes everyting..
this is the the only reason that we will never have a decent rom for the wizard....
if you got no time to post a decent post about your problem then you are wasting your and my time.

as for comments that the forum is becoming a mod forum....how is that SO???
because now we moderate the forum and don't allow the useless post that people use to post and still post....now we have favourites??!!!!!
the moderation i do and Kyphur etc are watched by senior mods and admins and if we do something wrong they will tell us off....

the wizard forum has the most foull mouth ,ungratefully people i ever seen in this forum...there is no respect to one or other and no respect for other work.plus very litle people help fixing or finding problems.

tell me after all this what exactly m i gaining??? do you have any idea what is the effort that is required to cook this roms?
na....not worthed....
but all is well my friend ....i will be out of the forum for a few weeks due to personal reasons and wend i return i no longer will support the wizard as i being doing...not because of the device but because of the users,i simply don't see the point...how m i supposed to help if you don't help yourself?

Faria, firt off thanks for you new. It is very stable and it works with all my apps. THIS is whats important. The other tweaks and "fixes" are to make the ROM more suited to the indivisual user, as it may if you want your suite to fit you like a glove, then you have to take your time and get it fitted correctly, and that is what we do when we post our quirks and wait for a response. If we all look at it this way we will no just pick up and go to another ROM because it does not have ALL the things we want ASAP!!!!

Hey c'mon guys. I think everyone just needs to take a moment to calm down here. There's so much hostility going on in this forum right now.

From my point of view, with all of what's happening, no one is going to come out the winner. I understand, believe me, coming from many other forums, how frustrating it is when older, more experienced posters collide with new posters. There's always name calling, arguments, and whatnot.

My advice to everyone, and take it for what it's worth, if you are new and have questions, please try and search around first before asking again, because really, if it has been asked a hundred times, chances are, at least one person will have some sort of sarcastic response that will ignite a feud. To more experienced users, please try and be more understanding of new users. Sometimes, searching does not yield the results people look for and thus, older questions will arise again. If you do not want to bother contributing an answer, then just please do not post anything at all.

Bottom line, please let's all just be more understanding and cooperative with each other. After all, we are all the ones to benefit from the projects that go on in this forum.

Tahnks.

This used to happen to me with any ROM - cooked or otherwise - randomly once
in a while. I think its a issue with the Service Providers Server not acknowledging that you have cleared your messages. The easiest way I found
to resolve it is just to call yourself and when you clear that new message the
notification of waiting messages goes away.

I'm sorry to hear that you feel this way and I hope you don't go, but you have every right to be upset and whatever you decide to do, I will respect that. You gave so much to the Wizard community and I know that we could never repay you enough for that. You put your talent and time in this and got nothing out of it, and I deeply respect you for trying to help people like that.

I know I don't have to many posts, but that is because I have read hundreds and hundreds of pages on this forum, and I found the answer to almost every problem I ever had with my Wizard. I think that noobs should do the same.

I am NOT a programer and I cannot help with direct problem solving, but I can try to find them by everyday using, that is all I can...

And once again Faria, thank you for your time and your talent...

Just finished installing the ROM, definitely like the look so far, although I have not yet played with a lot of the other features, seems fast and I will keep an eye out for any memory leak issues.

So questions are...

1. How can I assign softkeys. I cannot seem to find the icon that allows changes
2. Pocket RAR appears in both the accessories folder and main program menus. Is there an easy way to delete?
3. What is elatepuskservice.ink in the startup manager?
4. I was playing around with the new WM5 menu and created a smartkey link. I decided I really didn't like it. I went in and disabled it but even after several soft-resets it still persists.

5. I also have 2 Office Mobile folders in Programs, one at the top with the other 2 and one in alpha order
6. I PM'd the author in a previous message who had changed some dll's to allow the use of the Geo77 phone dialer skin but wanted to check here as well. I am currently using the EtenO2 portrait (replaced the Geo77). Does anyone know if that works with AKU3.3, and if not what the process of converting it woudl be or where one could find 3.3 compatible dialer skins?

I have modified Jakaroe808's classic Gey skin to be used on this Rom.

It now uses system letters and numbers, and I have added a smartdail skin.
So I basicly redraw all pictures.

I couldn't make a screenshot, because ActiveSync_Remote_Display doesn't recognise the operating system ;)
Instead I uploaded a picture which pretty much shows you the dailer.

The cab/skin can not be used on any other ROM because I used phcanrc.dll from this rom to modify the dailer!

Known Bugs:
The text/numbers are out alignment first time after reset.
When you slide the keyboard open and close it again it will re-align, and it doesn't happen again untill the next reset.
I have no clue what is causing this..

Updated skin, buttons allign better now

On the other hand, If I only have to replace the dll, it is easy done, and can do it after work.

Guys, I'm sure I don't have to say it, but I'm really disappointed reading some of the abuse on this thread, and a lot of the Wizard forums.

I've said it before and I'll say it a thousand times, please show respect for your colleagues on this forum, and generally in life!

Everyone who contributes to this forum does it because they want to, not because they have to. Some of those guys go above and beyond the call of duty to help others out. Recently we've been getting enormous numbers of noobs coming online asking simple questions, that have been answered a thousand times before, and it gets tired after a while. However, we all try to help where and when we can.
I don't need to tell you guys the effort that Faria puts into his work. No one forces him to release stuff to us, and no one forces you guys to use it. Try rom cooking - it's hard work, and takes it's toll on wives, girlfriends, children, families, socialising and the real things that matter in life. But, there are those that like to geek around, and those that even like to share the products of their efforts.

If you've used Faria's roms, try to send him a word of encouragement if it's helped you. If it has a problem, send him details of how and why, and he'll try to help and improve things for the rest of us.

But please, please remain polite.

The moderators have been alerted to this thread, and it's disappointing to have to read this Howard Forums style abuse. We're a civilised bunch of people.

markgamber: Faria is a great guy, and if he's got angry, it's because things were said that shouldn't have been. There may have been a bit of a misunderstanding and a miscommunication on both sides here. But please, try not to be abusive.

Let's all try to be respectful of each other, and each other's work.

I think we've all learnt a lesson: Nokias are nothing but trouble :)

Do you know how i can install the Arcsoft_MMS_Composer_3.5.1.5.cab? I first uninstalled the 3.0 version but when i tap this cab the loading takes forever? Is there any special way in doing this?

it was working on your RC1, well it's just a minor issue for me aside from that your rom is ROCK SOLID. (dunno why i am still using GPRS monitor, i forgot that i am on unlimited data tariff with t mobile. LOL)

well anyway faria, great fan of yours and thanks for sharing a great ROM. cheers mate.

I'm not sure how I ended up with this but a few weeks ago I went to look for an update and I downloaded from chi-tai this version of battery status.
I noticed the one in the latest v2 rom (which I LOVE!) is 3.3beta, thought you should have this.

Thank you so much for the fabulous work, All of you.

Hello Beautiful People,

1st - Noob question: I'm still using AS 4.1. Will I need to upgrade to 4.5 beta or 4.2 to install this rom properly?

2nd - For all you rom cookers and testers, thanks for your hard work. You guys are appreciated by most, it's just that the unappreciative tend to speak louder and harsher. This thread alone is 4 pages already so I would say all you guys are doing a great job in bringing joy to us who love to advance our technology but don't have your skills, patience or will.

to do the upgrade, no. but some people have problems getting it to sync correctly without the newer versions. if you move on to one of the WM6 ROMs you WILL need AS 4.5 beta

This version of the ROM is working absolutely great for me. I have had no issues at all. The applications I have loaded, voice command 1.6 and spb weather work without issue. OTA exchange sync works great. The speed with the 8mb pool is just plain amazing. It really is like having a new phone. Thanks! The bad thing is that now I'm stuck upgrading my friends' phones.

I've read in alot of threads that some people are having issues with voice messages that are supposed to be still unheard. I have tried going abck almost a year and there are no messages or voice mails outstanding, still the notification persists. Has anybody found a solution.

Tahnks.
manfly, I had that prob too once (but on an older ROM), the simple solution for this is in registry.. i don't remember the exact key but u can go into registry and set ur pending voicemail count to 0 to remove the notification. From then on, it should work fine.
You can search on this forum to find that key, otherwise i'll try to dig it up and let you know tonight when i reach home...

Just wanted to say that this is really the best rom. I ever used. I had no issues so far. Thanks for all the work you put in this rom.

@everybody: Does anybody know how I can get rid of the "rotation" icon in the tray bar cause that one is not controlled by FHM TrayLaunch.

therocketeer
30th January 2007, 07:48 AM
The only solution I found to rid of the rotation icon is to use the registry editor... hklm -> software -> htc -> initialtray... and then i deleted the directory with the rotation entry.

I couldn't find any other way to rid of it. hope it helps though.

This may seem obvious, but since we sometimes forget things; have you set it up to check periodically for new mail? I'm having no problem with my GMAIL account. I have it check for new mail every 60 min since I don't really rely on emails.

By the way my phone hasn't been reset for 1, well almost 2 days now and granted I haven't done too much on it, some bejeweled/text twist here, little internet browsing there, after closing all my apps (using the oxios software) I still have over 20mb of free ram.... UNFREAKING-BELIEVABLE. I'm using the 6mb rom and I don't have too many things on my today screen, Pic dialer, Live Messenger, Batterystatus, LVTime, Tray Launch and Voice Command at the moment, I just need to install pocketbreaze and hell with all the free ram I could even install Wisbar now.

I notice that gwes.exe, filesys.exe, device.exe and shell32.exe don't grow like crazy now, before in the blink of an eye they would be taking up 3000+kb with this rom the few times that I have checked they have been under 1400kb.

First, THANKS A LOT for the nice ROM (again... and again.. and again ;) ) !
-------
One thing is, that the backlight always turns off after 10 seconds when in battery mode. When I set it e.g. to 1 minute, it works until the phone is switched off or goes into "sleepmode"... then the backlight turns off in 10 seconds again...

Does someone else has those problems?

I hope, that this doesn't appear beause of restoring my phone from the V1 (what should be no propblem?!)...
-------
the other is, that omapclock always runs at 180mhz. I remeber in the V1 Rom there were links with which the clock was changeable (those i can't find now in V2). I can set the clock to what I want, it always gets back to 180mhz. Same situation as with backlight problem (when turnig off or going to "sleep mode"!

Hi Faria - any chance of looking into this issue? Your ROM looks great but unfortunately, there's no way I can use it with these syncing problems :-(.

@Tsuioku
There's 2 links for "phone" one in the \windows\start menu\ and the other in the \windows\start menu\programs delete either one and you'll be able to disable it.

@miamiboy
My phone pad works fine..... if you can call "that" fine. I just checked since you asked, but personally there's few things I hate more then using "t9"

@dbsoundz
My backlight is working fine and I can change it to and from any of the values. As far as omapclock goes, in the batterystatus options, under the "Omap Apps" tab there should be 3 apps already configured by the rom, "Desktop", "Phone", "Camera" and all should be at 195MHZ. Maybe that will help you sort out your omap troubles.

Faria (and others)

I'm not an active poster on this forum; but read a lot and use the roms you cook.

The problem with forums is that they are interactive and everyone can make his statement fairly anonimously... Myself i'm an administrator of an forum for convertible cars in the netherlands; much like this forum... and i know by experience that it takes a lot of effort to guide the visitors along the right path (read: the civilised) path... every once and a while there is someone who's nasty.

Bottom line: Very much appreciate your roms; and for me they are working like a charm...

And everyone who is messing up the threads with critisism about the cookers or anything: please take in mind that it takes a lot of effort to cook this; and they are doing it for us... they aren't going to be rich (maybe a little bit of famous ;) )... so please be polite... it isn't going to do you or us any good; and doesn't help

thanxx.

Have been using this ROM for a few days, the 8MB version.
I don't have almost nothing extra installed, and am using exchange to for syncing. I am overclocking the device to 247Mhz just because I can. I think this is the first ROM I don't really need overclocking except for specific applications.
I don't have any issues regarding syncing with Activesync, but I do have the memory leak. The way I learned to live with it is to soft reset the device every morning before I go to work.

Faria, keep up the good work, I for one appreciate it.

These threads grow very quickly and if you are away for a day or new to a thread important info gets lost, it would be good to have a wiki for comunicating import info to users and report re-producable issues to faria, so I have collated all the info from this thread thus far and created one.

http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=faria_3_3

If we all keep this upto date it will be a lot easier to comunicate any real problems back to Faria and enlighten new users of issues already covered.

Anyone can update the wiki, so go ahead.
Note the Wiki states at the top up to which page in the thread the info has been collated to. So if you add to it with new info from this thread please update the pointer.

The Wiki has been split into current issues, fixed issues and none reproducible or isolated issues. Questions should be moved to the appropriate section when their status changes. Feel free to add any other sections we can all benefit from.

First, the technical issue: XnView is a great little program and I am glad to have it as part of the ROM. Unfortunately the options don't seem to work correctly. On a 2.26 IPL/SPL and a fresh ROM install with no customizations or software you can not change the default folder location that XnView looks at on startup. It defaults to \My Documents\ and although you can go through the motions of changing it, it doesn't actually change.

Second, is there a reason that many cooks don't make the installed apps show up in the Remove Programs list? I think this issue could be easily solved by an uninstall/reinstall.

Faria, unfortunately you are discovering that no matter what you do to contribute, someone will complain. Unfortunately you simply can not get away from that using this faceless medium. People will say things just because they know you will never see them face to face. And you are right, they are content to take and take without ever giving anything back. But that is a fact we have to deal with. Pay them the attention they are due (none) and brush it off. Just keep in mind there are many of us who appreciate your (and others) commitment to this platform and your willingness to share the fruits of your knowledge and time. Thank you.

My understanding is that PIM data is in a different format in all 3+AKU's - so you can't restore from 2+AKU data.
Just do an ActiveSync to back it all up, then sync again after installing the new ROM!

Well, i've fixed the audio problem using a registry tweak, and thanks to faria's patch the streaming media player is now in the programs list. I would still be grateful if someone can still give me a couple of pointers in using the player and also some links to visit. I'm currently using GSPlayer and it works fine, but i would like to know how to use the streaming media player. Thanks in advance guys, and once again thanks faria for the awesome rom. i'm loving it.

This is a really good idea and I added programs that are working for me. I don't seem to have any of the problems listed so can't help there.

I have found several easter eggs in this ROM. I was already a fan of Battery Status, TodayAgenda, wm5NewMenu and Smartskey (as well as the now missing TodayAgenda, which I prefer to PHM Traylaunch) but had never used, or even heard of in some instances: Mobile Secretary, PocketRar, XNPocket, Core player, or Live Search. What these d and how to use them might me a worthy addition to the wiki.

Am I right that these programs reside in extended memory? I couldn't overwrite the smartskey.ini, finally had to open it with Total Commander and edit it in order to put my settings. How to access these programs properly might also make a worthy addition to the wiki.

And of course: if you don't see the programs after installing the ROM, it is because you didn't unlock properly.

Thanks again!

A question regarding the page file.
This ROM writes a page file to the SD card right?
So what is is called and where abouts does it go?
I cannot see a file on my card like pagefile.sys anywhere using either explorer from PC or Total commander.

Also, how do I view the extended ROM using Total Commander?

I'm having the same problem as I did with V1 of this ROM. I'm unable to sync my calendar over the air with my Exchange server. I have exactly the same issue with Crossbow. If I choose not to sync the calendar, everything else syncs fine. Switching back to 2.26 eliminates the problem. Faria - do you have an idea what could be causing this?

Thanks for any help.
I too had this problem too.

DISCLAIMER: I have tried to describe in detail what I did here. Read and re-read the instructions carefully before attempting this. I will not be responsible for lost or deleted calendar items.

I fixed exchange server sync with calendar items by doing the following:

1st
Connect and Sync with MS Active Sync (I used version 4.2, should work others as well).

2nd
Move your Calendar items from Exchange to you desktop machine (you're probably already here; but, if not do so). Tools>options> in the menus. Click sync so that both your Wizard and MS Active Sync are now fully synchronized

3rd
Create backup folder in MS outlook (on your desktop machine). Make a full back up calendar/copy folder of ALL of your calendar item in MS Outlook on your desktop machine (WARNING: >> you'll need this later & be dang sure you have backed all calendar items up<<)

4th
Gulp. Delete all Calendar items while your wizard is attached (you did do step #3 right? if not your crying now). Verify nothing is in your MS Outlook standard calendar and on your wizard. Blank, nodda, nothing.

5th
Disconnect your wizard, bare with no calendar items (does it feel naked yet?)

6th
While in MS Outlook (on your desktop) Copy your backed up calendar items back to the standard folder (you'll get a ton of missed meetings etc, just dismiss them all).

7th
Reconnect your wizard (yeah it will sync them to your desktop again - that's ok & will help step #8 go faster).

8th
Now via Tools>options move your calendar items back to the exchange server and sync again

This should do the trick. Worked for me.

I have tried to describe in detail what I did here. Read and re-read the instructions carefully before attempting this. I will not be responsible for lost or deleted calendar items. Basically you're fooling MS AS and the Wizard that you just added all new calendar items and re-formated them for the device.

This ROM looks great and a significant improvement over v1. Kudos to all the guys who worked on v1 and thanks to Faria for all of the work in bringing v2 to the community.

I really love the collaborations shown above. People helping each other to solve their issues is exactly what should be in these threads.

My question is a simple one. Faria, you state in the first post that this ROM is a beta. I know you've said that you'll be withdrawing yourself from the Wizard forums soon (I have read all the posts in this thread and got up to page 53 in the v1 thread) so..... will there be a final version?

1. The Rintone Manager in the Acessories don't really work well when you want to add mp3's song to your ring tone cause when I tried it, it seems to add to the main memory, cause I get memory is low when I add songs from my memory card which is in mp3's formats. So I tried mRing which is another ringtone kinda manager which works much better without increasing storage on the mainmemory and no error message.?

2. Dunno if it's this rom or pocketbreeze problem when I delete the sms on pocketbreeze and when I reboot it's back there again. I'm guessing the sms is store on the sim card itself, does anyone know how to permanently remove it from the sim card?

Thanxs for reading this post, excellent forum, and people.

Once again, compliments to the chef(s).

3 days straight or normal use which includes lots of A2DP audio, pocket Outlook stuff, Windows live messaging and mail, Windows media sync'ing, MS Voice Command 1.6 over BT, Internet sharing use over both BT and USB to three different PC's.

3 days, no soft resets, no instabilities noted on my G3, other than a minor reg tweak to get A2DP in stereo and some monkeying around with BatteryStatus to get my overclocking where I wanted it, this has been a rock solid A#1 product.

I wish the carriers did this well with their ROMS, but then we wouldn't be having all this fun would we :-)

Big 'ol kudo's chefs!

Hello all

I will be upgrading asap but a quick question on the ver 1 found in
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=290155

Im having a problem in Faria Mobile 5 AKU 3.3 ver 1... is it a known issue or just me?

First of all thank for all the great work and support many here are providing and doing it for free (think that is a highly unappreciated fact)

Now for the issue (you knew that was coming)

Flashed Faria Mobile 5 AKU 3.3 OS Rom… no problems found at first
But just ran in to my first problem….

After the flash if I plug in the head set… the external speaker still plays?!

…I can not for the life of me find a setting that will play only via the plugged in head set?!

I listen to radio via the internet … in the past if I used the jack for the ear set this would mute the phones external speaker(as it should) so I could listen in private

It seem trival but it a real killer….I do Cisco router tech support in 12 hr shifts right now and I love being to able to internet radio while I’m working without disturbing other… now I’ve lost that.. and I’m bummed

OK for the base line I have a US T Mobile MDA (wiza200)….that I’ve been as stock/locked 2.6 T Mobile rom… no problem

Per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285435
Did the unlock (downgrade to button 1.5/ hard boot/run lokiwiz02b U. Unlock, reboot, C. CID Unlock/ hard boot/ rerun button 1.5 to clear the SPL 2.6 still/ hard boot…then after all stable at 1.5… flashed T-Mobile 2.26 ROM again for a “strong 2.26 IPL and SPL to work with”/ hard boot/ then flashed Faria Mobile 5 AKU 3.3 OS Rom ver 1… / hard boot…also flashed radio rom 2.47.11)

All went well, running great, stable, …

Show:
2.26 IPL and SPL
OS 5.1.461 (build 15671FARIA.3.5)
ROM VER 3.3.9.9.WWE DATE 11/10/06
PROTOCOL 4.1.13.24 EXROM faria v4.0

Again thanks for the support and hoping to geting up to speed on this cool little box

(my first computer was a PDP 8 with a Teletype interface... hacking the box is more then 2nt nature...it a job requirement):D

Actually I do have my mp3's in my storage card in My Music document. It's just that when I open up Ringtone Manger and mark them to add to ringtone in wm5 seems to add the mp3's to main memory for some reason I get memory is low when I check them and go okay.? and I don't want to put my mp3's on my main memory to make it a ringtone just to make sure you understand this.

Other then that, the ROM is solid fast and awesome, dunno why people think the WM6 is faster ..I have wm6 on my g.f phone and it doesn't come close to as fast as faria's & co rom V2. WM6 seems to slow down after awhile when you click on the start menu and other stuff, at first it quite fast. Faria & co rom is solid fast even after I install lots of programs and haha, my main memory only has like 1.7mb free now and still run crazy fast...Nice work, Faria and the great people on this forum that made it what it is now. You guys should be proud of yourself. And for people complaining about this and that, and requesting fix. like Faria said it's s developer's forum, so it's okay to post the problems, and see if we can all figure it out, but dont' expect them to do it, it's a free open source not a paid service. State your problem with details and your setting then your question can be answer quickly or at least it will help you better. Thanxs again, great forum.

P.S anyone know how to delete sms on the sim card?

Ya i understand you fully, but i think it is you that does not understand!!! You make a folder called 'My Documents' on your card, and put your mp3 in that folder you will get them come up when you go in to phone and pick a ring tone!!! It is simple

Sorry after re-reading my post i can see that i was not clear to putting it on your card!

Hm... I think that spb backup is the reason... I don't know where the problem is, fact is I have problems with backlight as described...

I think I will reset the device and configure the phone again...

This may seem obvious, but since we sometimes forget things; have you set it up to check periodically for new mail? I'm having no problem with my GMAIL account. I have it check for new mail every 60 min since I don't really rely on emails.

Found it!! I installed Tmobile email notification! Works great!! No need to setup "check periodically" :)

Thanks anyway.

Hello. I just sucessfully updated to this ROM on my 8125, and I LOVE IT!!! I have WM6 downloaded, but I don't want to risk installing it when this ROM works so well. I did have one problem though. My wifi doesn't work with this ROM. No matter how many times I click the wifi button in the comm manager, it doesn't switch the WIFI on. Is this common? Is there a setting I'm missing?

Speaking of being helpful, there was a post in a thread about the state of the board that talked about using Google to search the forum by, "Personally, I find using Google or yahoo, with site:xda-developers.com, works much better than the forum search. My personal pet peeve is the inability to use quotes to search for phrases. Quotes don't work."

I recognize that the search function here is somewhat limited. Perhaps the instructions on how to use Google to search the site should be stickied and then locked at the top!

Bug it is not my friend, I think most, if not all, custom roms hide the sim contacts. It's actually a registry edit, if I'm not mistaken it's HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\Showsim you need to set that to 1 it should be 0. Or you could just open up Registry Wizard and uncheck "Hide Sim-Contacts" on the first "tweaks" page.

You can copy from the sim manager to your contacts, just click around in the sim manager and you can select all and then copy to contacts.

Have you tried reflashing? Or upgrading your radio rom? This happens to me after a soft reset or a hard reset but soft resetting fixes it every time.

Yeah i know that i can do that, but i dont want to do that. I dont want my SIM contacts to be outdated. I on occasion use my SIM in a normal phone when i dont want to bring the pocketpc.

This worked proper in my original 2.17 firmware. This page shows how the contacts list should look, listing both "outlook" contacts and SIM contacts

Yes, I've noticed this in both versions of the ROM. I've found that when this happens, if I then soft-reset the phone, then WiFi will either come on when it restarts or I can restart it manually.

There was mention that there was some WiFi integration done in this ROM to get AES encyption for the WiFi stack. Small price to pay to get my home systems back on AES again :-)!
