I had to reset my Universal to factory settings and now it is stuck on "align screen".
Is there a way to by-pass this or is there a reason why this is happening.
anyone...help....thank you

this may happen due to a broken touch screen. You can create a file "welcome.not" on root dir of your SD-card, this would bypass the whole "welcome" process.

Thank you for the reply but, as a neophite I have to ask a couple of more questions.
1. broken screen as in: Done...need a new one?
2. when you say write it in the root directory...please...can you walk me through it 1 time?
thank you

Ive used this teqnique today and it works fine.
Open the sd card (assuming you have one) on your pc/alptop/mac/whatever and in the top directory e.g the one where you cant go any further up, r/click>create new file>text file>call it welcome.not and agree to use the file name. Put the sdcard in the Hermes and reset it and indeed it bypasses the align and welcome screen and took me straight into the customising OS page.
Jobs a good un!
