Post 5 here saying it works for him.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=292492

The thread is about WMDC 1.0 so not sure if that is necessary or not? He also says he upgraded to Vista from XP sp2.

Run Windows XP within VMWare and flashing that way works. I have read reports of a few people doing this as a last resort, and finding it works perfectly.

I'm not sure how *safe* it is since it virtualises your USB ports, so you may be at risk from bricking, but it does work.

Hi!

I made the changes suggested in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291723
Since then I flashed my Universal 2 times with no problems at all.
Because of the change to the hardware driver I donīt think it has anything to do with the fact that I made an upgrade from XP SP2 to Vista.

Worked on Vista for me to upgrade to WM6, but it wouldn't work on my dash to downgrade. Tried for like 2 hours, then tried once on my XP desktop and worked perfectly.

I had problems flashing using vista so tried Microsoft's virtual pc 2007 but failed to deliver. I then managed to find the latest version of VMWare Workstation which was much more professional and worked so well I got butterflies.

I used to use an old pc for flashing but no more. It works perfect but please please make sure you download and install Vmware workstation 6 plus as anything other crashes on vista. Trust me been there!

And once you have imaged xp make sure you also install activesync 4.5 for best results.

Good luck and pm me if you have any questions.

i have, i downloaded from microsoft

familyid=46F72DF1-E46A-4A5F-A791-09F07AAA1914&displaylang=en

as i read it if you are using wm6 then vista will work for syncing & with no problems getting into boot loader for upgrading etc. with this update

but maybe not for downgrading to wm5 god forbid?

in my experience using wm6 with active sync 4.5 on xp was temperamental. but using wm5 was fine

i am very new to all this but if this helps anyone then it is a good thing

I'm running Vista Ultimate and have flashed my phone (charmer) numerous times. IMHO, the best way is if you're using RUU, use VMWare Workstation. If you're flashing using some other method which doesn't put your phone in bootloader mode before beginning to flash, then flash directly from within Vista. In fact, for normal flashing this is my favoured method, i.e. flashing directly from within Vista without making the phone enter bootloader. But then again, if you're flashing official ROMs, you only have RUUs in which case use VMWare Workstation.

Yes this can be done. However if your phone is stuck in the bootloader the UNI_ExitBootloader program will NOT run for me. I had to go find a XP machine.

14th August 2007, 04:24 PM
I have upgraded my phone with many of the different ROMs at work on my vista box with minimal problems.

I almost freaked out when i was stuck in the bootloader and UNI_ExitBootloader would not run on Vista. So far that has been the only downside i have seen to running vista.

Hope this helps!

:) hi guys

i m upgrading my ppc over vista from last 8 months the only thing u hv to do is to replace the vista ppc driver by activesync 4.5 driver and when u want to upgrade ur device just stop the usb connection in WMDC in vista. its a simplest and evergoing way.:)

oh.. only just saw this thread..
if you have an ipaq then the safest way to flash is to use my bootloader tool:
http://forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?t=243984
(download: BootLoader.exe (http://www.freetrafficsite.com/BootLoader.exe))

it automatically installs the activesync 4.5 drivers (as mentioned by krishan2207) before it starts if it detects you are running vista.
if it fails to install them, it simply won't work and won't be able to flash anything.
if it succeeds, it will definitely work.

in comparison, using HP's bootloader app,
you won't know if you've succeeded in installing them or not (which has to be done manually), and if you don't properly install them you can end up with a bricked device by flashing.

Howdy,

Flashing with ROM update utility 3.14.4.1 works on Vista32 & 64bit.

At least, it worked until I installed SP1 v2.75, who's got a solution?

I have Vista Premium and a Blueangel. I've upgraded and downgraded around 7 times in total (I bought it as a toy!) and all I do is disable WMDC, downgrade the driver and stop the processes.

Never had a glitch. Though I did have to go into bootloader for the radio firmware.

14th December 2007, 08:21 PM
The flashing isn't the problem, but I cant find a RUU that works with Vista.

At the point that the phone is set to bootloader (USB mode), the RUU crashes.

Ofcourse there is always a workaround, but I would like to get things working the way it was ment to.

ultraprimeomega
14th January 2008, 03:45 AM
the problem with this is that vista is a pain in the @$$ its like a baby and we cant just give it what we want if we do it will cry we need to give it its spacial milk if not it will just give us crap. but anyways the only solution that ive tried and works is using the RUUs that work with vista, its the safest way i think or dual boot

and Faria all your roms are still the best

It has been well established now that Vista lacks the Drivers to do ROM Updates using that Operating System, However, this thread Vista ROM Updates (http://www.modaco.com/content/Windows-Mobile-News/252977/RUU-on-Vista-It-can-be-done-the-ultimate-guide/) directs you on how to update Vista with the drivers you need to do ROM Updastes. Basicly you are essentially installing the drivers from Active Sync 4.5. Good Luck.

hrmm, well, i've only flashed my phone once using xp

using windows mobile device centre 6.1 i've had no troubles, but the first time will fail as windows searches for drivers when its in bootloader mode, wait for the drivers to be found, then try again, (this will only happen the first time on a vista installation)

for some reason with vista sp1 you have to uncheck the 'enabled advanced network functionally' for the usb otherwise windows mobile device centre just seems to freeze, doesn't happen on normal vista only sp1 vista.

i've actually had more trouble with active sync on xp than i have with vista!

2nd February 2008, 07:00 AM
Using sync center, i was able to install hard SPL on my KAISER.
I was extra careful since the instructions were meant for Active sync, not sync center.
-Ran the hardspl exe, followed instructions. When asked to unplug/replug i did so(Instructions said something about a grey activesync icon, well vista doesnt have "activesync".) So i verified if my kaiser was connected to the PC using safely remove hardware[wasnt at first, took a few times unplug/replug].

I crossed my fingers, hit OK, and everything went smoothly. As for Rom flashing, it was pretty basic after the hardspl has been installed, i had to play around with sync center because it would not sync my kaiser once flashed, shows up as a generic device. I deleted old partnership, and restarted computer, still no luck. So then i reinstalled device center that came in the Htc Cd apps. After a restart, i was able to set up a proper partnership, and had a small bonus. I was able to sync the storage card seperately from the device's memory[see pic].(wasn't like that before!)

I am using Windows Vista Buisness 32 bit.
Hopefully this helps!

Hrm, actually come to think of it, the first time i flashed my device it was a pain because it was running wm5 and wmdc wouldn't connect to it..

since using wm6 i've had zero issues in vista! but since i've only flashed from wm5 i used my g/f's xp laptop to do it since the only xp machine i have has usb 1.1 and for some reason just wouldn't do it

how about mapping a part of the phone (either internal memory or storage card) as a Drive letter in Vista?

Reason being, I want to use WinDirStat over bluetooth to visualize my storage card. I can only do that if it has a drive letter or becomes a folder within an existing drive. I can't just paste the working directory shown when I'm browsing the PPC's files ..

Any ideas ?!

I was one of those people that complained about Vista. I finally upgraded on all my systems to Vista and I couldn't be happier. I still see a lot of people complaining about Vista but most those people never even tried it and rely on the answer/opinion of other people who probably also never use it.

Vista is a superior OS to XP Pro and if you have an appropriate system setup it will perform just oustanding. I have between 3GB of RAM (on my laptop) to 64GB RAM on my editing system. Of course if you try to dump Vista on a 1.4GHz system with 1GB of RAM and a 20GB Hard Drive it will not run well.

Anyways, I upgraded my Dash and my Dad's BlueAngel through my Vista Laptop and it worked great. I think on the Dash I was able to even skip a step compared to XP Pro so it's easier.

As always if you read the installation instructions well there shouldn't be a problem...

I would say, upgrade to Vista and do it soon, you don't know what you are missing!

So far i've been working in vista64 for a while now and it just works like normal when flashing. UAC should have no effect on flashing at all. Only when starting the ruu, run as administrator. I haven't tried to flash with Vista yet, but I upgraded my PC over the weekend and loaded Vista and for some reason when I sync'ed the phone using Vista for the first time, it deleted all of my contacts! I'm a little pissed about that as I didn't see any place to go and tell it to take the contacts from the phone and back them up and had no warning it was going to do it.

Good news is I am rebuilding my old machine parts in a different case and should be able to get my contacts back off of it when I resync. Still lost numbers though.

P.S. I also did not follow any "flashing with vista" guides as the above poster seemed to mentioned are out there. As i was unaware of any drawbacks or problems with using vista to upgrade at all. Nor have I actually see much info on problems with vista flashing to be honest.

Yes.

Theres a few problems ive had. 1, I run 64 bit vista. So the unlocker tools built on 32 bit, some WONT run on 64 bit. So ive had to go back and use an old box for the unlocking process.

BUT. Roms themselves have had zero issue flashing. Ive put a dozen roms on my touch (Vogue) and had no complaints from the pc or phone.

I was having the same issue at first I flashed a few roms with no problem all of a sudden it stop recognizing my device I tried a whole bunch of things it would not connect to W.mobile device center. I discovered that connecting your phone right after the little melody it does when you log in to your profile on the computer actually worked. The thing that sucked about this is that you have to restart your computer everytime you wanna reflash a rom or generally connect your device to Windows mobile device center. Give it a try let me know.

As I said before, some versions of RUU work with Vista, some don't.

But is anyone still using Vista? The Beta of Windows 7 actually seems more stable (and it's certainly faster!) - but I am having problems getting it to recognise my devices and the only RUU I've tried failed.

Anyone else got RUU working on W7?

Finding this post first gave me this moment when your heart stops beating for a few seconds.

I really never thought about getting problems with Vista and flashing or connecting mobile phones. At least not more or less problems than with Win XP.
My new notebook came with Vista, so I had to use it and I had to get used to it. I did more or less.

So I just can say: No problems, i flashed, and flash and will flash :)

Have a nice day

Michael

I prefer DOS - but times move on...

Try Windows 7 - it's what Vista should have been ;)

I have flashed under Win7/Vista (win7 being my main OS atm) but i keep a XP VM around for most flashing, it just works better.

First off I'm using "64 bit" vista meaning the drivers are required to meet specs to install. I'm downloaded mobile device center and have my activesync setup. I then put my phone into bootloader screen and hook it up to my pc and it install other drivers. The preinstalled drivers install and then I run my romupdateutility and it installs perfectly. I'm not using any modified drivers. On another note make sure your phone is unlocked or you will "NOT" be able to get the romupdate utility to work unless it's from the provider itself.

PS: I am a rom tester and reflash my titan 6800 about 2x a week to test and review different roms... 1 close call but it was the a bad rom and I was able to recover my titan w/ a different rom from the bootloader...

Why not just use Vista? It's easier than keeping a spare PC.

I've just flashed my NIKI one minute ago under Vista Ultimate 64 bit - I had absolutely no problem.
N.B. Before flashing I've installed "Windows Mobile Device Center" in order to get all the necessary drivers for the phone.
