Guys,

the jasjar is capable of getting 1900mhz band but my question is can you mod the radio rom to use 1900 for UTMS instead of 2100?

i know its never been done but dosent mean its not possible unless some kind of hardware issue.

please let me know what you guys think, this would be a great hack so we in the USA using the Cingular network can have 3G

It's my understanding that while the Qualcomm chipset is capable of this, there are licensing implications, and the radio rom has never had the necessary software switches activated.

Also, there's going to be a hardware issue with necessary aerial for UMTS on that band missing I would assume.

well i see in the NETWORK/BAND area of the jasjar it says 1900PCS so i woudl think t he ant would be capable of getting a 1900 signal

can we take the radio rom from other cingular 3g devices and have one look at the "switches" to add then to a HTC universal radio rom?

this would be awesome as i am bummed out that my over 1,000 phone cant connect to 3g because cingular used 1900 instead of 2100..

why cant the world be standard already...

**EDIT**

[Cingular Blackjack Specs USA 3G]
# Dual-band domestic UMTS/HSDPA - 850/1900 MHz
# Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE - 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

[Imate Jasjar Specs WW 3G]
#Dual-Mode UMTS/GSM
# Tri-Band GSM/GPRS (900/1800/1900) + WCDMA(UMTS) (2100MHz

That's on the GSM chipset though, not the UMTS Qualcomm chipset.

I'm pretty certain, over a year on from it's release, if it was possible, someone would have done it.

The world does have a standard, the USA just never adopts it.

Ah ok but the ant question is still up in the air

yea but things aren't done until properly motivated, being the 3g service is new here in the USA and the rest of this forum has had not reason to really... its efforts seemed deeply untapped... =)

yes tell me about it, here use GSM/UTMS but make it non standard....

well its because 2100 is in use over here....

but this hack would be such a great feature for all us XDA USA members who just got shot by cingular...

no 3g cause my expensive phone dosent support it...

UMTS on 1900 isn't even my annoyance. I just want quad band compatibility! I go to a University I *live* on the more urban side of the campus, but my classes are 15 mins away, in a more rural area...and the service SUCKS. I get so tired of the 'no service' beep in my bluetooh, I just turn the phone mode off. But then I'm unreachable...

I really wish I could get all four bands...-crosses fingers- C'mon 850...!
