Hello All,

I've upgraded my P3600 with this ROM, but when i start Route66, it says that it can't find any GPS. Other programs like GPStuner or GPStweak can talk to it with no problem. Asny sugestion?

Regards,

BMad :confused:

Same problem here, I'm going to ask Route 66 support if there is a way to get it to work.

@Mrjack69

GPSgate is a nice tool but i do have problems with it. As soon as I turn on any security settings GPSgate cant load the needed software drivers. Apart from that it works very well.

I also got it working fine using GPSGate, but I'm very interested in finding out why it's needed. All other GPS utilities, such as Google Maps, work fine without it.

Most of the programs work with so called NMEA protocol (which is standard for most GPS receivers), but Route 66 works only with Garmin Protocol - that's why GPSGate is needed - to translate NMEA protocol to Garmin.

Aha. But then, in what way does the P3600 differ from other PPCs with built in GPS? The system requirements on the Route 66 web site mention nothing about the Garmin protocol; it just says that the device has to have a Bluetooth, wire connected, or built in GPS unit.

I find it very strange that Route 66 would not support NMEA, but maybe you're right.

Greetings,

I asked Route 66 support about what to do with this problem and they suggested I download an update from their web site, which I did. Unfortunately Navigate 7 will still not recognize the built in GPS, and even worse - it no longer works when using GPSgate.

Can anyone who is using GPSgate with Route 66 post the exact working GPSgate configuration?

I may be able to return the Route 66 product, since Route 66 said in an email to me that it should be compatible with the Trinity while clearly it isn't.

Okay, if anyone's interested I've been exchanging emails with a very helpful individual at Route 66, but so far we haven't been able to sort this out.

After updating my Trinity to the latest HTC branded ROM with GPS, I've managed to get Route 66 Navigate 7 to work reliable by using GPSgate. I have limited knowledge about how nav software interfaces with WM5 GPS devices, but what I can clearly see is that GPSgate creates a virtual NMEA port (in my case, COM2) that the Route 66 software can identify and function with.

Without GPSgate, it won't see the GPS, regardless of which port(s) I configure the GPS to use (via the GPS settings applet).

The strange thing is that every other GPS software/tool that I've tried works fine, such as Google Maps, iGO 2006, Efficasoft, etc.

I've suggested to Route 66 that they probably want to fix this, since the Trinity now "officially" is a GPS capable device. :)
