Solutuion found: how to flash any rom to CIDLOCKED DEVICE

All wizard roms have an nk.nbf, its either floating around in the folder with the rest of the rom or you have to extract it from the executable file.Then you just put the nk.nbf in the folder with your shell tool so the shell tool can locate it when you run it.

After i installed the mUm's WM6 rom with a Shelltool on my T-Mobile MDA Vario, I get this message: \Windows\AutoConfig.exe does not exist!.

The he turns back to an very poor installed version of WM5.

I did everything what was in the Manual.

My MDA Vario is CIDLOCKED but with the Shelltool it shouldn't be important. (I Guess)

What am i doing wrong?

I tried to flash my MDA again, and this time i read the text inside the shelltool over and over again..

Now i know what i did wrong..

There are 2 Cabinet files (Cert_SPCS and EnableRapi) that should be copied to youre MDA's root.. After that you should install this trough youre MDA... Otherwise the shelltool can't reach the CIDLOCKED area..

I missed that.. but i can say that it works great..

but this just isnt working for me. im trying to use farias latest rom, (cb-airaf.exe is the name of the download) I do the whole nb.knf thing and i made a new folder on the desktop and extracted everything in the shelltool_bugfixed.zip into that new folder, then put the nb.knf file into that folder. Then put those two cab files on my phone right after another

Then restarted my phone, extracted and flashed the os.

And I always get stuck at the ipl spl screen. The only thing that changes is the os (i think it says 2.10.0.0) So i just enter bootloader mode and throw on the tmobile rom again. I can't find out what im doing wrong, and im following each step the right way.

oh and by the way, im using a g3 device (i read earlier that it doesnt matter, maybe that's the problem)

This program doesn't work on Vista. I tried flashing it twice in Vista, the phone will get stuck on the boot screen showing the IPL/SPL info after a hard reset. The same rom flashed sucessfully on XP.

Just try flashing the original rom from OEM,
And then flash with shell tool, it will work.

By the way:-
Try increasing speed by 500mhz it will flash faster.

Finally I could update my 8125 G4 CID Locked phone to WM6 MB Edition. Working fine now.

Steps.

1. Update phone to Wizard_Love_2.26.10.2_WWE_Novii+CF2 ROM (Required, couldn't update from 2.25 Cingular Official ROM to WM6 MB Edition)
2. Follow step by step the Shelltool procedure to update phone to WM6 Most Beautiful Edition.

whats up?? you need to enter bootloader mode (use the stylus to soft reset and then quickly hold down the camera button. Then you should see a wierd colored screen, and on the bottom it should say usb. Now just flash with the latest official rom put out from your company

I am one happy camper. I upgraded my O2 Mini-S using the instructions above. The first time it failed. I had to reflash back to the firmware provided on the O2 website (my-xda.com). This was version v2.21.4.101. I then tried the upgrade again, AND IT WORKED! I used the faria WM6 download, which is filename CB-AIRAF.exe. I will MD5 the files I had and verify module versions for those interested.

I found that even though I tried multilple times, I wasn't getting the 'lib' folder from the zip file. Try downloading the ShellTool_Bugfix again from ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com...l_bugfixed.zip . Looks like it's working now, will update if it bricks...

Sure enough, that was the ticket. With the original Cingular WM5 rom, it showed the same data results in ShellTools as in the instructions, but with the Faria rom it only had two lines, I believe the OS and an HTC image info. Loaded in about 8 mintues, and after a hard boot, came up fine! Whoohoo!

EDIT: My problem was that for what ever reason my phone was NOT CID Unlocked when I tried to install the ROM. It seemed as though all went well during the unlock but it didn't. Here's what I did to get it going...

It actually cost me $50, but it was worth it. I found a post about a fix using an SD card, but the phone had to be CID-unlocked (which apparently was the reason the ROM update I tried failed). And another post told me the only way to unlock my phone from the bootloader screen was to use the www.imei-check.co.uk website to unlock it. It cost $40. After i did the CID unlock via that website go to the forum post -

I had to buy a 512mb miniSD at wal-mart last minute and paid $20. Anyway that's what fixed it for me, even though it cost me some money.

Just tried this (first on my G3 to run through the instructions) and followed letter by letter on my brother's completely original G4 model T-Mobile Vario UK. We moved it to nottoosmart's fixed MuN ROM, and it worked perfectly! Phew!

Stupid Human Trick...

After several failed attempts to update the ROM in my 8125, I discovered that I had unpacked the ShellTools archive with the use sub-folders option disabled. Thus the lib folder was not created. With the ShellTools archive properly extracted, the ROM update went smoothly.

Please note this "duh", so you can avoid my mistake.

Hi,
I believe ShellTool_bugfixed.zip to be virus infested. It appears to have been uploaded at 13/04/2007 06:46. Please can someone remove it, and or replace with a known good version..

I extracted and ran shelltool.exe, and it proceeded to say it couldnt find shelltool2.exe then deleted the contents of my windows folder. Reinstall of XP required.

NOD32 found virus in bugfixed version! File is clean because of that it have the BAT file compressed in it and NOD32 find it after RUN. It decompreses this file and try to run. Thank god i have vista and NOD32!

If i make a program today with the instructions to delete a lot of important system files and upload it to the ftp server with the same name as a known program I'm almost sure no AV will detect it. It's a matter of being a new version of a malicious file with an unknown header...

This is one of the reasons, especially now we rely on third party download services, it would be handy to start using MD5 (http://www.fourmilab.ch/md5/) checksums. That way when someone makes a forum post with a download they can provide the MD5 checksum so downloaders can verify an authentic file days/weeks/months down the line.

Sorry for continuing the off-topic but another solution is to upload the software to the forum/post and not to the ftp server where anyone can freely mess up the files. Or else restrict the permissions to the ftp server and post files to a specific forum/ftp area where moderators can check and then upload to the public ftp

I need some serious help.

Followed the steps and got a popup that said can't reply replog.tex at the very end. I figure no deal and at this point the upgrade is already done and did the hard reset.

After reboot, I get the usual splash screen showing my old roms (2.26) but just freezes there. Dead.

Help....please.... I hope I don't have a dead phone.

Relax, the same thing happened to me and its happened to other people. Just reflash your carriers rom or wizard love then try again. Sometimes shelltool takes a few attempts to work.

Get into bootloader mode by holding camera button and turning your device on. Put your phone into bootloader mode (rainbow screen) then plug your usb in. You should see the word 'usb' appear in the bottom of the bootloader screen.Then just run wizard love or your carriers rom.

Let someone here know if you need further clarification. If you read the early pages of this thread i had the same problem as you and i asked the same question too.

not having any luck. I was only able to turn it back one time and that was with only the power button by itself. I couldn't get it back on w/ the camera/power combo. I wonder if the battery was dead but that can't be since I had it charged overnight and have really not used it.

One thing I forgot to mention is that I saw during the hard reset on the last step of the upgrade was something mentioning "Format Fat..." towards the end. Not sure if this is the part of the upgrade.

Any other tips?

edit: I connected to the power adapter but it doesn't appear to have any effects.
edit2: looks I got the bootloader to show after removing the battery and tried a few times. I guess it's a bit sensitive and how long u hold it. Also it had the "Error 260 error" when I tried to reload the rom but it continued w/ the upgrade process. Anyways, i'm reloaded the 1.05 now. fingers crossed.
edit3: Success! Man, I thought bricked my phone! Thanks bwesty!

Now I just need figure out what I did wrong? One thing that stood out and not sure if this is the cause but you guys can help me out.

I renamed my rom package to zip to extract the nk.nbf file but didn't rename the rom package back to .exe as it came with. Could this have somehow screw up the upgrade?

The new file **_bugfix looks like has some virus in it.Once you run the app it goes to a website then XP starts asking to insert the original CD once you reboot you get an NTLDR missing error. I had to restore to my previous back up XP. I tried with other XP machine the same thing happened.

I understand that SIM Unlocking and CID Unlocking is not the same. I understand that with this tool you can also put a different ROM to a CID locked device, but is there a way to just SIM Unlock a G4 device?

Same problem but worse. NTLD Error after I restarted. XP setup will not recognize HD now. I backed my documents up before I restarted but hopfully not the virus. I'm on another PC now and will update virus software before anything else.

The Shelltool only flashs the OS Part of the Rom, and there is no difference between G4 and G3.
Only if you try to flash a G3 Rom with RUU(with SPL and IPL) on a G4 u will brick ur device.

The virus gives problems in Vista too. Instead of deleting the files in the windows folder, it initiates a system shutdown in less than 10 secs.

I will upload the older version to the FTP under Unlocking in the Wizard folder that is virus free from my XP computer in the evening. I am at school right now. (only 15 years old).

the shelltools on this page, with the date 4/27/07 7:52 PM is a clean one. I just used it on my vista (trying to run a test to see if it would work, it didn't) but nonetheless my laptop works fine.

EDIT: I just tried that link and it doesn't let you go there.

then scroll down till you see the FTP Root

Okay, I've got a problem. I'm stuck at the bootloader and I don't know where to go. I followed the instructions until I got to the hardreset part. Problem was, I had some sort of .exe error problem on the phone. I missed the part that said not to hard reset and went ahead and did it. Saw it right afterward ($*%&#). Anyway, I started to follow the instuctions for a problem on the front page, but the link is no longer valid. Any help? I'd really like to have a working phone.

The error message I get when I click on the link says "550 failed to change directory". WTH? Well, now I'm in deep crap and I don't know what to do.

If you can get to bootloader then your probably fine. Flash back to your carrier's rom or wizard love then try uding the shelltool again.

Yeah, I can get to bootloader luckily. I just don't know how to flash back to the cingular rom from the bootloader. Do I need to do anything special?

One more thing, how do I tell if a rom is G4 compatible? I was trying to do it with the crossbow reloaded. Should I just use the faria that came with the G4 step by step guide? I just don't really want to brick my phone. Think this rom will be fine on G4?

Well, I tried the process again. This time I didn't get any errors. I loaded the two cabs, I reset the phone, and then went through the process. I then hard reset after it was over. It's stuck on splash screen again.

One problem might be that my phone is brand new. I just got a replacement sent to me becaue I had a brocken USB port. I wonder if they fixed the loophole that allows this. I don't know for sure, but that's a thought. Oh well, time to go back to carrier again. I think I'm done trying this for now.

I have BIG problem now and I hope somebody can help me!!!
Today I tried twice to flash new system. First time everythink was perfect and I get in my qtek9100 beautifull Molski.Biz_AKU3.3_21911_8MB_Crossbow.
Then I want to see a differences in 5._Underground_edition_Crossbow_ROM. But somethink was wrong and now when I reset my qtek I see only flasscreen.
For me flashing from bootloader is not so easy... I connected pc and qtek via usb, I see "rainbow screen" and in left down corner USB, but when I run
Wizard_Love_2.26.10.2_WWE_Novii_CF2 I'm getting screen with error 264.
Whole time active sync 4.5 is not active.
What is wrong???
Now I reset my qtek and try again load italian wizard love and I get error 300.
What is going wrong, why??

I have been using the shell tool method and working fine (thanks to all the turorials out there) though it takes long time to upgrade and always has to go back to original ROM. I wanted to use the RUU method and update only OS/Extented rom. I could not upgrage a single time. The update utility finishes with 100% and shows "finish" button, but the phone boots back in to three color screen and does not load OS from there. I've changed the OS rom language to "WWE" and version to "4.0.0.0" What am I doing wrong here? Please help?

Note: This is G4 and locked to cingular and have no problem in upgrading GSM radio roms with this utility.

I´ve flashed my G4 CIDLOCKED 8125 for countless times using MuN´s Shell Tool, I had the tricolor screen problem ONCE, and this was when Shell Tool had a bug in it, MuN fixed it long time ago and since then I haven´t had a single problem at all.

The better advise is 1) READ and READ again until ALL doubts dissappear, the procedure is very clear but it has to be fully understood; 2) It´s been said hundred of times: start from scratch with a suitable ROM, in my case Love Wizard has demonstrated to be the best ROM to start with for a G4 CIDLOCKED device.

For Cingular users: Before Wizard Love I tried the "official" ROM in Cingular site, this didn´t work for me and on top of it I lost my extended ROM, I got another Cingular G4 ROM in this tread:

I have gone over all the posts and I dont know what else to do.

I have a cingular 8125 G4 (locked). When it tries to load os, it simple stuck so went to the 3 colors (pressing camera and initializing (power button) and then connected the usb. It appers the usb written on it.

Wonderfull right ?? wrong.. I downloaded the Wizard_Love_2.26.10.2_WWE_Novii_CF2 and put the nk.nbf on the awizard (bugfixed) and start to flash it to the mobile.

Its about 47 minutes now and the shelltool is (not responding) and the cmd screen still on)

What am I doing wrong ???

If your stuck on bootloader you wont be able to use shelltool.
Just flash the rom normally ie run the .exe file.

i get errors sometimes. All i can suggest is reboot pc, remove sd card, try plugging your device into a different usb hub or different pc and cross your fingers.

I just found out that there were encryptation on my descktop... so I copied efvrething to c:\smartphone and decrypted (crazy windows xp) evrething... now I will try again!!!

Anybody using shelltool on 5.2.1413 builds should be aware that shelltool may not tell you that flashing is complete. If this happens you should wait an appropriate amount of time then unplug your device and hard reset as per normal. Some people consider 20 mins an appropriate amount of time to wait.

Finally was able to unbrick it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found a cingular original installer with windows mobile 5 and it installed from the bootloader (the 3 colours screen) I didnt use any tools just downloaded the file and trined to install !!!

WONDERFULLLL !!!!!!!

My is a G4 cingular 8125... (Now I know there is a God !!!)

After several attempts trying to flash my CID Locked MDA G4, I did it ! :D

I was always trying to use the Wizard.Love ROM, but it always returned to the carrier´s original OS :( So I tried another ROM:

WM6.Crossbow.WWE.HTC.Wizard.v5.2.660 :p

The "only" issue I can notice is that my battery is draining a little bit... Guess I need to set something around (prolly my omapclock is buggy? who knows)

Also, missing the camera proggy which I know I can download somewhere around.

If anyone is experiencing a bug with this OS running a similar rig, PM me please!! :p

well that's the thing... problem isn't to flash back to original ROM. I did that and then again tried to WM6.... and every time same problem

Please correct me if I'm wrong... If I use ShellTool on my G4 wizard I can't brick it because that process just replace old windows with new one without tampering with bootloader (that is what can ruin device). Only thing what can happen it that wizard wont boot up and that can be fixed with entering in boot mod and flashing original ROM.... Am I right or did I forget something??
I need to get some facts straight before I continue with attempts to flash my wizard :)

Not sure what happened, but soon as I posted everything worked. Now I am running Crossbow 1.7 @ 247Mhz and it seems to be very stable. The shell tool did lock up, but the upload took.

There´s no default nk.nbf file as part of the Shelltool bug fixed zip file!!! Try to flash Wizard Love using RUU to start a clean Shell Tool use and after that select a nk.nbf file corresponding to the ROM you want to flash copy this file to the Shell Tool directory and repeat the process.

Its hard, very hard, but now i have wm6 on my wizard.
My advice: dont work with Wizard_Love_2.26.10.2_WWE_Novii_CF2. I used CB-AIRAF.exe (install farias rom), it dont install wm6, but return the system for clean rom. After, I flashed wm6 and....works. The process taked 8 minutes.

Go for torrents and get Wizard Love rom. With that and computer activesync, enter bootloader and run RUU. You should be able to flash that rom without a problem, then try again ;)

It was soooooo easy, I couln't beleive it when I hard resetted my device and saw the wm6 logo and how beautiful the OS is, I installed the underground ROM and absolutly love it!!!! Thanks so much for this program and making so many people happy.;)

Ok, so I was trying to use faria crossbow rom and got stuck at the IPL/SPL screen like a few other people.... tried to install the MDA original rom but i've run into an issue. When I connect my phone to pc after getting the three color screen and getting the usb on bottom left, RUU doesn't work. It says Error 274 : Connection. I also tried wizard love rom and also get some error. What do i do now?

I'm new to this. I want to apologize ahead of time if you find my questions stupid, and or redundant. I've just read approximately 8 pages of this thread and I haven't been able to find any answers to my questions.

I have a Wizard, aka MDA by Tmobile, that has the following specifications: IPL 2.26, SPL 2.26, GSM 02.25.11, OS 2.26.10.2, ROM Ver. 2.26.10.2 WWE, ROM Date 6/7/06, Radio Ver. 02.25.11, Protocol Ver. 4.1.13.12, EXT Rom 2.26.10.105.

I have travelled to different countries, Hongkong, Canada, and USA, and was able to use their SIM card. I know that my MDA is SIM Unlock because I was able to use other SIM card without any problem.

How do I know if my MDA is CID unlock given the fact that I was able to use my MDA to two different countries. Also given the above information, how do I know if my MDA is G3 or G4. There are no "0" at the end of IPL and SPL when I'm booting my MDA.

I would like to upgrade my MDA to WM6. Where do I begin? What steps do I need in order to upgrade my MDA (instructions please)? What do most MDA owners use for ROMs specifically design to work in USA by Tmobile? Are the new ROMs proven to be faster and more stable than the current factory ROM installed than WM5? Are the new ROMs compatible to work with other 3rd party apps such as Spb softwares?

OS 2.18.0.0

I love the updates that this has provided to me.but I cannot emphasise enough.READ THE INSTRUCTIONS.
I tried (thinking I was smart) to flash the ROM several different ways, all resulting in a rainbow colored screen and a bricked device.
Flashing back to the original ROM from Cingular got me up and running again.
Finally I followed the G4 step by step instructions that I read here and wow, A fully working device.
So again, READ, READ, and if you think you understand, then read again to be sure.
People have worked long and hard on this and understand the process better than you, if they say do it in a specific order, guess what...you should.!

Many thanks to all who have put the time and effort into these updates to our devices, and a huge thanks to Faria, for making it so easy.

Well, I'm not exactly a newb to flashing (having done both on a BlueAngel and a G3 Wizard). But I'm stuck. My G3 screen died and the warranty replacement is a G4. The original G3 I was able to CID unlock myself and flash ROMs til my hearts content. The G4 is another matter entirely.

My replacement G4 is a Cingular CID locked device. I have tried following the listed steps except I have substituted the WM6 ROM to use the latest NBD. I flash w/o any problems, but get stuck on the Cingular screen after rebooting the device.

That file is inside the RUU executable which is instead a self extracting ZIP file, open with WinRAR or Winzip then you can find nk.nbf.

yeah i was a newb on that question i guess i just kind of asked before i really knew what i was talking about but i figured that much out. i have run into a whole new set of problems though i get through all of the steps smoothly and then when its flashing the OS it takes only about 5 minutes before I get the "done" prompt and my phone gets hit with a notification error and im forced to install the factory rom in bootloader mode and try again. for my first time i know its gonna be trial and error but any advice would be awesome

Okay so I tried again today at work and was able to get through the set up without any sort of error notification. But upon hard resetting the phone at the end of the process (holding the comm mgr. and camera button and pressing and releasing the reset button while still holding the other 2 did not return with a black screen asking to press send so i did the same thing with the VC button instead of camera and was asked to hit send) so i tried both of those and after hitting send it restarts my device but gets stuck at the cingular IPL/SPL, GSM, and OS screen it seems that OS has changed from what it used to be, IPL/SPL are the same and GSM is missing. So I waited patiently and nothing happen it just stays stuck at that screen. I'm trying to install Core 2.0. What am I doing wrong?

Hmm, well I used shelltool_bugfix and it took 30min and no flash, my Activesync disconnected (was still plugged in just lost connection).

Now my phone is just stuck on the bootscreen with the IPL/SPL/GSM/OS details.

Hmm, well I used shelltool_bugfix and it took 30min and no flash, my Activesync disconnected (was still plugged in just lost connection).

Now my phone is just stuck on the bootscreen with the IPL/SPL/GSM/OS details.

Well i got stuck on the same screen, enter the bootlooder mode the 3 color screen and flash to your original rom. that should work. going to try the shell tool again trying to load the XDA_mobile6 rom this would be my 8 attempt using all possible options stll not working :(

i'm using xda here without problem.

one think that i see, is that i never can go from a wm6 to another wm6 rom.
i always need back to wizard love and then flash with a wm6.

doing this, i never get stuck boot and works perfect

I want to up this to WM6, apart from the shelltool inc documentation and obviously the WM6 ROM is there anything I need to know or do.

hi rattlehead, i have the exact same phone and i had no problem, i would suggest searching for the wizard love rom, then first flash this rom and afterwards flash the wm6 rom, some people have had problems flashing straight to a wm6 rom or from a wm6 to another wm6 rom. I dont know if it'll actually affect it but its 15 extra minutes that guarantees your phone isnt bricked. Besides that the shell tool documentation is thorough. As long as you follow it to the letter you wont have a problem

How do I exactly do (set them up to main memory) this I want to be 100% sure.

I want to say that Im not a real programmer, I found some way to flash CID LOCKED device and wrote only shell (with userfrendly interface) and collected some useful tools.
Special thanx to itsme for his tools (if i dont mistake...)

WARNING!!! IF YOU WILL SEE CMD WINDOW DON’T CLOSE IT!!!
WARNING!!! DON’T TOUCH YOUR PC OR DEVICE WHILE FLASHING!!!

With this tool and my instruction you could:
1) Get info about ROM
2) Extract only OS from whole nk.nbf
3) Flash this OS to your G3/G4 CID LOCKED Device (even wm6 rom or latest aku 3.3 rom).

In atachment there are:
1) ShellTool.doc - instruction. Read first and please, follow it step by step!!!
2) ShellTool.exe with some other files that it need
3) Cert_SPCS.cab/EnableRapi.cab - should be installed on your device

I tryed to flash diffrent rom to g4 CID LOCKED DEVICE and its were flashed on it and worked perfect. Have fun:)

I have a shelltool wizard and when i "start" flashing nothing is actualy happening. Shelltool is asking for a Hard Reset and when I do that there is no change.

I've tried putting back on Button ROM->flashing finishes but still stuck on IPL/SPL screen
I've tried to put original T-mobile ROM but there's error Invalid vendor ID 294
I've tried to put Wizard Love ROM but it gives me an error 300 INVALID UPDATE TOOL
Only flash that worked for me was Molski ROM for G3. It moved my IPL/SPL from 1.05 to 2.26 and still stops at second splash screen.

Of course I always turned off all programs and kill all unnecessary processes while flashing but still nothing(and been doing everything from bootloader mode)

Can someone please help me?

Try using Wizard Love rom to repair your device but using the file attached - replace the one you have. I've been in that situation and I could only make the device to boot using Wizard Love ROM and that file, it overcomes the ID of the device... then try again to run ShellTool to upgrade to WM6 if you wish :)

I've try it. This time installation was in English but again nothing.

I think I now have a really big problem.
My phone isn't CID unlocked and I tried putting MOLSKI ROM
Now my phone only gets to bootloader.

If you have a G3 then this thread isnt really for you. It is mainly directed towards G4 CIDLocked wizards. ALthough im not sure if it works on G3s or not.

here download this tool. i know that you downloaded those other links. but this is the same tool BUT its the updated version 2.5.2. the other links you tried were version 2.00.1

this version hopefully helps you out. i searched and searched only to find out it was on my PC already. All you need to do is just drop the nk.nbf of you choice to use it. i hope this helps man

Firstly, after a full hours tension, the ShellTool (v0.1beta) application is registering as Not Responding. Also, on my XDA Mini S, I am getting an out of memory error. And secondly, the ActiveSync icon on my XDA is appearing, animating for a handful of frames and disappearing. A similar affliction is befalling the power connection/charging icon, but Activesync on my desktop is not seeing a drop in the connection.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is my first attempt with this particular piece of hardware.

1. when i was flashing using shelltool. it hung at the end and did not give me anykind of notification. so after about an hour i just unplugged my usb cord and hard reset(hold comm manager button and voice buttons and take stylus and push reset still holding the buttons your screen should go black and then tell you to push send. push send)

2. for your mini and memory. go to start>settings>system>memory there you will see three tabs. click on running programs and click stop all.

3. im not sure about that sorry

I managed to get into the bootloader screen and use O2s official XDA Update application to restore my unit to its factory settings.

I'm going to attempt another update once more before I hit the hay

Got Wizard Love loaded on my second attempt, but the hardware keyboard symobls are incorrect! (E.G. '!' is where '@' should be) I've tried changing the Regional Settings, but is there a remedy for this?

Hello everyone, I've been at flashing my CID-locked G4 Wizard for 12 hours and I can't get it! I've read and re-read hundreds of posts!

I have followed Faria's guide to the tee repeatedly. It always just freezes at the splash screen, The good news is that can always get the Love Rom to load on there successfully. Yes, I've installed those two cabs, then rebooted. What could I be doing wrong?

Right now I'm on SNE and I like it allright, but i got a few programs i want that are on wm6. so im wanting to flash a wm6 rom. what steps are there just so i know. Flash wizard love then flash the wm6 rom or what.

Shiggins - it kinda sounds like your not letting shelltool finish the flash all the way. Let shelltool sit for about 30 mins if it doesn't give you a '' end process'' notification. My shelltool always freezes at the end so it doesn't give me any kin of message. Another thing is make sure you have any antivirus,spyware programs turned off, also take out your sd card if you have one. After about 30 mins pull the plug and hard reset and you will be good to go.

Adam - yes you should always flash back to wizard love or any other official factory rom before a flash. This allows it to clean up any corrupted filed you might have and also many people say it helps fix the battery drain problem.

I managed to install this using Vista x64 and Sync Center.
After getting the Windows Mobile compatable app for sync center, I installed the 2 cab files manually.

I then followed the guide and left it running for about 30 mins. When I looked I saw that the shelltool was showing as "Not responding" but the sync center was still syncing.
I thought to myself that I'd just pull the plug after 30 mins and after a hard reset, WM6 loaded up on my T-Mobile MDA Vario G4.

Lovely stuff and naughty of me to try but I'm glad I did.

i have a mda vario and i at first had a nbd 7.8 rom, now i put the 7.9 rom on it, i followd all the steps but only when i did the hard reset it was still connected to my pc, so i dont know it has to do something with that, :confused:

I think i missed 1 step from ur instruction you said after installing the .cab files on the device and reboot you asked to turn off the radio module on the device, can you please tell me how I can do this, may be this is why I am getting errors like "\windows\timewizard.exe" says cannot execute and I am also unable to access my contact on the phone.

This is a known fault with a few different rom builds. When I had this fault I did a few more hard resets before installing anything. Then my contacts button worked fine. I cant tell you whether this works for windows live because I remove it from every rom that I flash.

thnx for the info :) i'll remember that for my second phone . although u were a bit too late cuz i just lost all my contacts and smses ... is there any way to retrieve them ? (i kno i should've made a backup , but i didn't ...) .. btw where are the contacts saved on the phone ? maybe i can use recovery software to get them back ??

Or do I just have to keep hardresetting my divice untill the contacts works??

I'm using the NBD v8.1, and besides the contacts it works great! I got the keyboard changed to the nordic, so it makes it a hell lot easier to write sms now!

You'll properly need a ftp client in order to download!

If I'm obligated to use an ftp client What user and pw do I have to use?

pdocwrite.exe by itsme, used in current ShellTool package is outdated.
On his site (http://www.xs4all.nl/~itsme/) you can find updated version that perfectly flashes G4 without runtime bugs(espc. hangs).

Last time, when i used ShellTool to extract(by typho5) and flashed(by pdocwrite), pdocwrite freezes(every1 g4 users had this problem with some roms), i waits around 30min, then HR, everything seems to be ok.. but this isnt correct behavoir of pdocwrite.

Then i find Itsme homepage, and downloaded new itsutils. For flashing i used "pdocwrite.exe -v -G 0x30000 80040000-OS.nb 0 0x3900000" instead of "pdocwrite.exe 80040000-OS.nb 0 0x3900000" command used by ShellTool.

"-v" makes pdocwrite slightly more verbose, "-G" used to specify blocksize to thansfer thru ActiveSync. Itsme says, that -G key allows to flash G4 correctly.

Result: Succesfully flashed OS on G4 w/o any bugs & w/o ShellTool.
That way is more suitable for me, because pdocwrite shows progress of entire flashing process.

In attached file - updated pdocwrite.exe + itsutils.dll, typho5.exe, EnableRapi.cab, Cert_SPCS.cab, two .bat scripts to extract OS & flashG4(uses new pdocwrite options), readme.txt

Hey guys, just wanted to say thank you to everyone involved in this great site. I have just followed the instructions in here regarding ShellTools and have a brand new G4 8125 with NBD 8.1 OS.

Just to let everyone know:

- Received the repllog.dll error and ignored.
- The app never hung up.
- It took about 16 Min. to do the flashing.
- Tried to run G4Flash.bat initially, but it gave me an error regarding itsutils, so switched to Shelltools with great results.

Again thanks a lot to everyone.

Will later post my findings regarding my brand new OS.

interesting... "an error regarding itsutils". maybe i forgot to include some files, or else. Do you run extractNG.bat before executing glashg4.bat?

ShellTool and my package does the same thing. But i recommend to update pdocwrite&itsutils.dll in shelltool.

Will test again the tool, I'm changing NBD the Touch style is not for me.

BTW, I copied the itsutils included in the shelltool and tried again G4Flash same results.

Same result- pdocwrite issued itsutils error? maybe old itsutils an pdocwrite are incompatible :), rec. to upd my package, or download new itsutils from Itsme webpage.

Shelltool includes old version of itsutils&pdocwrite, better to use new ones w. "-G" & "-v" keys, as in my .bat scripts.

OS block on the Wizard flash = 59768832 bytes(0x3900000), better if extracted OS.nb has the same size, that'z guarantee to overwrite ALL, and not to leave trash from old ROM.

I have gone back to the official HTC/Cingular 2.25, which is the only thing this phone will boot. This is a new unit from Cingular sent as a replacement for a G3 I had whose touch screen went bad.

All steps have been followed as detailed in the ShellTools document, but still no other ROM I've tried boots.

Never have I received any errors during the process, it just stalls afterwards.

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

i have the same g4, cingular 8125 with rom 2.25.11.1 and trying to use the shelltool gives no results as your phone. it just stays on the cingular start screen.
the only one success i've received with faria's wm6 rom, but while loading the os gives some errors and the radio (2.25.11) does not work properly as i had no network coverage. so i went back to the original wm5 rom from cingular.
