Solutuion found: how to flash any rom to CIDLOCKED DEVICE

Probably a stupid question, but I'm new to the Windows Mobile environment...
I got the Shelltool and WM6 ROM's, but I'm pretty usure whether they would work on my O2 Atom (just Atom, not Atom Life or Atom Exec).
Currently running WM5 and it sucks.
Could I try or is there a risk that I mess up my ROM beyond chance to recovery ? I am well aware that no one will guarantee success, heheee... but some Expert advice would be highly welcome.
Second question, I run Vista Ultimate and understand there may be issues.
Would you recommend (if you recommend that I try at all) to re-install the tools on my old laptop using XP PRO SP II and ActiveSync 4.5 ?
Third question (Yaah, Newbies suck ;-))...I bought my O2Atom in Asia but live in Canada. It works, but I have some issues as I can only choose between Australia,Hongkong, Malaysia etc Country settings and providers, subsequently my device always assumes it's roaming. That was one issue I hope to fix with upgrading to WM6 as well; if the latter isn't recommended - any chance to fix that ?

You'll properly need a ftp client in order to download!
Look earlier in the post for links to ftp clients!
Works without FTP client under IE7 or Opera as well - just copy the domain part in the address bar, log in giving the given credentials and navigate to the respective subfolder... voila.;-)

I had to run it twice. But the program never ended at the required number, so I rebooted 8125 and I have WM6. I think I may have a problem with some software, and I know I have a problem with Active Sync. Should I rerun the batch files? Do I have to go back to Cingular rom first? what do you suggest

okay after , what feels like, a hundred tries I have only been able to get to 98 to 99 % of the writing of the new OS. Yes I did wait the 30 minutes that I read in the Forum, just incase. I started with a fresh Cingular Rom 2.25 and the same thing happened. I also tried to run the original RUU and it gets to 99% also. The OS comes up , but I am missing Contacts, and a few other packages. The contacts missing is what is causing the error on the Syncing Problem.
I am not sure where to go from here because the Unlocking tool wants us to send documentation to prove who we are, with picture, and that seems very dangerous to me. Any suggestions on what to do would help out alot.

I have an O2 XDA Mini S (HTC Wizard) which is a G4 device running the latest 02 carrier rom. I tried to flash it with the latest version of the Dutch Qtek 9100 rom. I did everything what's in the manual, after a few minutes shelltool says Make a hard reset now. When I make the hard reset I still get the startup screen of my old rom. The language, applications and the themes of the Dutch Qtek 9100 are installed fine.

I installed the cab files and disabled the Radio module before flashing the rom. After it failed the first time I tried again but just the same result.

OS block on the Wizard flash = 59768832 bytes(0x3900000), better if extracted OS.nb has the same size, that'z guarantee to overwrite ALL, and not to leave trash from old ROM.

i got same issue. i think reason is a formerly flashed rom didn't have 3900000 as size, so you (and me, too) have some bytes of another rom left in flash-memory.

Fill only by FF to 0x3900000, there is no problem- you cant kill device by this simple way :)
It will erase only OS block that is exactly what you want.

Thanks a lot worked like a charm...

BTW I wasn't afraid of killing the device, the problem was that every time the flashing hanged up the phone would start behaving funny, no signal, no contacts app, no office, etc...

so everytime i use this to flash my G4 wizard, it works fine, in the sense that it installs the ROM, but after some difficulty.

The ShellTools freezes right after i hit the OK button, but it seems to do what it's suposed to, because it installs the ROM. I can hit "Disconect" on activesync, and it says "great! you've finished" or w/e hard reset now.

But only after I invoke it... Why is this?

Well I think my 8125 is officially dead. I followed this guide and instead of "short pressing the reset button", I pressed the power button. I know, what a noob! :eek:

When I turned the device back on, it would freeze at the splash screen like many others in this thread. I have downloaded the Wizard Love ROM and started the phone in the boot loader screen, but when I try to install it it gives me an error. I have no clue on what the error states since it was in some foreign language.

Anyone care to help out? I might be doing something wrong? Or should I just bury my phone?

Has long you can get to bootloader, you are ok. What are you using to install Wizard Love? You should look for a RUU_noid so that you can flash Wizard ROM :)

Reboot your PC. Open task manager and kill wcescomm.exe, remove the memory card from your device, disable any firewall. Then put your phone in bootloader mode, plug your USB cable into the device make sure that you can see USB written in the lower corner. Then try flashing the wizard love rom again.

Same here the link no longer work. I used shelltools try to upgrade my G4 to the Titanium_verson2 rom, but my G4 will not boot up just stuck on the start up screen with IPL 2.25.0001, SPL 2.25.0001, GSM 02.25.11, OS 10.1.0.811. I am trying to follow the instruction on receoveing but the link to the rom is not working.

I am sure the upgrade finished before I restart my G4.

I got the Wizard Love Rom from another post and I am able to start the rom upgrade using ShellTool, however it will not finish the update I let the problem sit for an hour and it still didn't do anything. Right now my 8125 will only boot into the bootloader screen. I tired to update to the Black Diamond Rom using the supplied RRU and got a error message saying there is nothing I can do except senting my device back for repair.

I think I will just wait for the Kaiser to come out.....too much work for these ROM upgrade. :(

ok Im stuck with the boot screen as well now, so I guess I need to enter bootloader and run RUU with an official orange wm5 rom which I can find where???????? Please. This happened after trying to go from wm6 to wm6, it definitely doesn't like it. Shelltool works beautifully though. I have a cid locked g4.

Just unplug your device and hard reset. If you get stuck on the bootloader screen then flash wizard love or the rom your phone was originally shipped with using the RUU method before attempting to use shelltool again.

You can also use the softSPL (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=329147), that will fool the rom upgrade utility that the device is cid-unlocked.
It will use the normal Ruu, so flashtimes of a rom are aprox 10 min, unlike the shelltool, this sSPL is for G4 only (for now).

The biggest repository of original ROMs can be found At ROMupdate (http://www.romupdate.ru/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=27&func=select&id=8).
You need to register though before you can download.

Sure can, any rom that was meant for a G3 can be flashed using shelltool. Make sure you flash the latest rom from the company that branded your phone or use wizard love.

would i dump the complete rom or is that not possible , since i used to do this with my universal for research and test purposes.

If you are stuck @ bootscreen:
-forget all sSPL and Shelltool apps.
-download the latest ORIGINAL rom that belongs to your phone from Romupdate (http://www.romupdate.ru/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=27&func=select&id=8)
So check if your phone has been released as Qtek, Imate, O2, T-mobile, Orange SPV, etc. romupdate has a lot of them :)
-Connect your phone with the usb cable, kill activesync (wcescomm.exe) in taskmanager. (so the Ruu can connect to the phone in bootloader mode)
-Run the ROM Update Utility, this will take aprox 10 minutes, and at some point it will stall for a few minutes, don't panic this is normal.

Yes thats correct. It is recommended that you update the original manufacturers rom for your device before using shelltool. If you flash the latest rom for your device prior to using shelltool then your device is less likely to get stuck on splashscreen. I'd suggest you download the latest manufacturer rom for your device and also Wizard Love just in case you need them later.

To turn of the radio module you just put your device in flight mode or press the comm manager button then turn the phone off. Shelltool will almost certainly fail if you dont turn of the radio module.

i used wizard service tool to check if everything went ok after the k-jam update since i can read the complete rom info , it says that i have a g3 device and also in bootloader mode he only gives me ipl 2.16 and spl 2.16 without the 000x or 00x

Yes it looks like you own a G3 device, with the extra 000's that are a symbol of G4 devices. No harm done, it would have been alot worse if it was the other way around.

I thought this might be the case when you mentioned ipl 1.01
spl1.01.0000...but I wasnt 110% sure that these didnt exist in G4 devices. It would have been very bad if we diagnosed your device as a G3 and it was a G4. At least now we are both certain that you own a G3. Anyhow if mestrini's WST says you have a G3 then you are in luck because you are able to CID unlock your device.

as i asked befor should i do a dump of the rom for research purposes may be it can help to create a supercid to unlock the g4

If you've read here (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Wizard_Versions) and you understand it then have faith in mestrini's WST. I believe you have a G3, the only reason I didnt suggest that in the first place was because it would have been terrible if I told you to flash your device using the G3 method and you did have a G4.

If mestrini's WST tool says you have a G3 then I believe you have a G3 and I doubt you will have any trouble CID unlocking and/or flashing your device.

I've got next problem with my Wizard... When I try to connect my phone via AS, and run ShellTool my PC goes crazy... I can run ST without connecting phone (all is ok), but when I connect phone, program is working about 100 times slower... When I try to use softSPL, my screen goes white - as it should goes... and... and nothing! RUU can't connect to my phone... What to do? How to downgrade my phone to unlock CID...? I don't have much time... only about 4 hours to make it ;P Becouse I must give this phone back to my friend tommorow... :| I realy need help and advice,,,

NOTE : for every one using windows VISTA when u click flash OS the app will be "waiting for response " Don`t panic just wait for 45 min and unplug the usb and make a hard reset it will work fine after the rest

I cannot believe this method actually worked for me without any errors. Something usually always goes wrong for me with this kinda stuff. This method was easy and successful. One thing though, while it was flashing, 40 minutes had gone by so I presumed something went wrong, so I did the reset into bootloader thing, then the shelltool on the pc said the process had completed. I hoped for the best and thought about the worst, but everything turned out well. WM6 is sooooo cool. Thanks mun_rus for such and easy guide to flashing my phone. You the BEST dude.

believeit or not i have just finished my bigest chalenge the cadilac of all phones that Gold strong arm ugly beast was staring at me for a year. Now the phone is a victim and i am running a strong arm at 128. who cares right. Take the phone rum lokiv3.1 or what ever just a cid comand u must have active sync.

If not no big deal

asumming you bricked it after you got a rapi in thier and maybe a cert
just go forward.

load the rapi then the cert
reset radio off phone is the radio off boot load reset hold the camera for 10 sec.

slap right back in thier have your new rom open copy paste one in the first folder and one in the second sorry thats how i do it

push and read this thing will not flich rsist or give you love until it fires




G4 almost thought i forgot but facts i bricked the first ne i got but i powered out of the brick whith farias 2.69 radio. His 223 i beliee sunk both my phones hoew ever i dont read so my fault but radio roms dio not require active sync.

have you hard reset cause if not hold all 3 buttons around the edges
camera com and voice comand hold stylus in hole until it is black and says reset send no any key

reset your done phone is new and rodeo #2 for you.

the only catch to the ral data tool from above is spl has to be 1 or lower on any htc

just want to share what happened to me. i flashed several rom several times. i already used shelltool and softspl. out of cusriousity i took the ruu from faria 2.69 radio, place a nk.nbf from a rom without ipl/spl, then run the exe and it flashed the rom!:eek: i used farias ruu for flashing the radio and splash screens. but when i try to use it to flash a rom, it worked. i'm not suggesting this to other users. i'm just sharing it. so experts can explain it.

btw I have a CID locked G4

What should the phone show on the screen whoile Flashing with Shell Tool bugfixed? Here, it shows the 3-colored screen...

Wanna have Wm6... Should i perhaps try another kind of Rom? I'm flashing the WM6 R2 FINAL, which i found in the Wiki...

Thx for helping a noobie in Flashing WM Phones ;) Got some experience in Nokia-Flashing, but thats kind of different ;) Much less to take care of ^^

Oh and i forgot to say that it's a G4 O2 XDA Mini S grom O2 Germany...

Search for soft spl and hard spl, the thing to upgrading is reading, dedicate about 2 hours. Read carefully. Thats all it took for me to fully understand the steps that I need to complete to upgrade.

So, your device needed about 2 Hours to Upgrade? Well.. then i was perhaps a little too impatient ;)

How do i see if it is finishd? Will it show the Ready message, when its Finished, although it doesn'Ät seem to react while flashing?

It Seemed to Work, but i just got the Boot-Screen from this rom an some Kind of Certificate management, what prevents me frpom installing some apps... the rest looks same dto the wizard Love rom, including the apps...

Same sh** with any other WM6 Rom... Flashing to 100% but nothing is changed... strange, but i'll better stop as long as my wizard isn't bricked ^^

If all you're seeing is the rainbow screen when you try to flash then you're on the bootloader screen. If nothing happens after that then i have a feeling that you're not making a good connection to the device. Do you have ActiveSync up to date? Have you tried a different USB cable? You should be seeing a progress bar on your screen. If shelltool is showing "Not Responding" then there might be a problem with your computer. Try making sure that you have your anti virus turned off and you have any firewall programs (including the windows firewall) turned off. Also when you flash make sure that you don't do ANYTHING else with the computer. Close out all running programs. Don't use IM or browse the internet. Also make sure that you install both the cab files before flashing. If it's still not working then you could try flashing from a different computer. Maybe there is something wrong with the one you're using.

Thanks for the answer.

So if i flash using this RUU Flash thing, there is a progress bar shown on the screen. It goes from 0% to 100% in about 5 minutes, much faster than when i flashed the wizard love rom.

Maybe the HardSPL wasnt flashed right? Or is it perhaps overwritten, when i flashed a new rom, so i have to flash it again?

Alright, yayyy!!! I Flashed back the Wizard Love rom, ten the HardSPL, an then a WM6 Rom... AND IT WORKS!! YAYY! But WM6 looks much like WM5... But now that its working, i'll let it run ;) can't be too bad ^^

Works perfect. Only the ROM I got has some issues (XDA Mobile 6 Release 3 Lite Version) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=324632

It didn't work the first time, put on the Wizard Love ROM, and then redid the procedures. This time I forgot to turn the radio off (go into flight mode), so that probably screwed something up. At about 20 minutes, I just closed the CMD window and it said "END" and it really did end and works flawlessly.

Be sure to turn off your Radio!

Help needed
I have tried to upgade my O2 XDA Mini S (WIZARD) with Faria Crossbow 6 Rom.
It was loading fine till it hit 99% and got stuck there.

Now all i get after i soft reset it is three color screen and i have tried several times to run faria's rom it gets stuck at 99%.

How can I fix this. Can someone please help me

Fantastic! After not realising my O2 version was a G4 (DUH, must learn to read!) I finally found a way to get my ROM updated beyond WM5.

This one completed 100% but the PDA is restarting again and again.

I've downloaded the "fixed" shelltool from the FTP site here and it about destroyed 2 computers I ran it on (one was XP one was Vista). When I ran ShellTool.exe it errored out right away complaining "cannot find Sheltool.exe" (yes the typo was in the message). Then it proceeded to delete everything in the folder the EXE was in and fraged the registry. I was able to restore both systems but I think someone should validate my claims and if there's something wrong with it it should be pulled from the FTP site.

This isn't a joke. I'm moving on to trying soft SPL...

I just spent about 6 hours fixing my computer.

The file on the FTP has a virus on it. You load shelltool and it gives you an error then begins changing many files in your windows folder until you have to restart. Then your computer will be bricked.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE SHELLTOOL FROM FTP.

I have a question.
I installed WM 6.1 an i really like it. it took a long time till i set everything up and it works really great. Now i want to try some other ROMs. Can i make an image-file of my OS? without SPL and IPL? I have intalled Wizard Service Tools.
I tried to make a back up of my OS with the Option 'READ ROM-> OS Image (bdk 1)'. Then tha programm worked about 10 minutes and created a '*.nb' file. It's 58 MB big.

I have 3 questions:
1. Is that my ROM? i've only seen *.nbf files till now. That's why i am a little bit confused.
2. Is it a safe ROM? no SPL and IPL?
3. How can i flash this ROM back when i need it?

Please answer me.

So I'm stuck at the bootlegger screen. Tried flashing a couple different times but I have since found out that my P4300 is CID locked. I have the unlock code (now) and have other programs to unlock it from Unicel. Unfortunately Unicel is now longer in business so I cannot get the OEM ROM from them. Any tips?? :confused:

Hi there,

If you ever happen to get stuck in the IPL / SPL screen, try the following (it happened to me and I almost got a heart attack...):

"If your device doen't boot after flash procedure with my shelltool you should
1) Hold "Camera" while short pressing the "reset" button. Your device will enter in bootloader mode. You will se 3 stripes.
2) You should connect your usb cable to your device and pc and run RUU and flash this rom.
