View Full Version : Removing the Logo from your 8525?

EDIT: 8525

I was just wondering if anyone has removed the actual printed logo off of the front of their 8525. If so, how did you do it?

I know you can use finger nail polish remover to take decals off of some things, but I just wasn't sure if it would be safe on the finish of the phone or not.

I'm interested to know...

Thanks

Sugar cubes work well.. tape off ALL the areas you don't want to damage (screen, space between keys, etc..) and use a sugar cube. It's coarse enough to get the decal off, but, does not damage the phone.

Disclaimer: I've never tried this. I've seen it work (Google is your friend).

It has pics of the process.

This will not work on the 8525. The only reason it worked on that MDA that the guy was using is because the logo was actually printed on metal. The 8525 logo is on plastic. It would damage the phone if you did that...

Use some eraser gum, worked on my Nokia. The harder the gum, the better it works.

not a bad idea, might have to give that a shot...

I actually did the sugar cube thing to my MDA and it worked PERFECTLY not a single scratch, I have been contemplating doing it to my 8525, it seems to be the same idea, the texture is the same as the one from my mda, im pretty sure they are the same material.

I'm telling you right now, if you try and do it on your hermes you will scratch it all up.

the logo on the mda is was printed on metal, the logo on the 8525 is printed on plastic. it will not work with a sugar cube. now if the logo was printed on the metal strip right below where it's at, the sugar cube method would probably work...

I've attached pictures to show you the difference in texture.

Is it really bothering people THAT bad to have the logo there? I have yet to have the logo interfere with a call or keep me from being able to do anything else I wanted to do within reason with the pda itself.

So you don't have an aswer for me as to why you want the logo gone so bad then? An intelligent person might have said something like "it would help clean up the lines of a beautifully designed device" or "I don't want people to know that I have a competing phone since I work for company X".

And I could say the same for you...

An intelligent person wouldn't have posted in this thread if they didn't have any real contribution to what the thread pertains to.

And I wasn't aware I needed to announce the reason why I want to remove the logo, sorry.

Because the Logo is printed on metalic painted plastic, you will have to be very careful else the metalic look will be marred. I have used a Q-tip moistened with a mild solvent like Goo-Gone or paint thinner to gently scrub away logos printed on plastic. You have to be slow and patient and stop before the base paint gets soft. Maybe do a little then let it dry some. Be very sparing with the solvent.

Good Luck.

little bit of nail varnish remover on a ear bud, doing little by little at a time, allow each stroke to day before the next??

Nah.... you just need to upgrade your equipment. Here's mine - tastefully not displaying any crude logos - yes it's amazing what a drop of the old Acetone free Nail Polish Remover can do:

Oh yes and I believe you can play the odd 4d game on it as well:)

I'm retardedly interested in removing the printed logos from my 8525 as well -- if any of you guys do end up figuring out how to do this perfectly, please drop some knowledge on us.

As a side note, if anyone knows where/how to get some small tasteful "HTC" or "HTC Hermes" decals that could be applied to replace the 8525 logos, that would be pretty hot too.

The only reason I can think of removing Carrier logo and replace it with s/th else (aka HTC, TyTN) is to mark up the phone sales value! It is similar to ppl who put AMG and M logos on their Mercedes and Bimmer.

So nobody knows how to do this? Seems pretty basic, but I don't want to blindly try chemicals on my 8525 until one of them does the trick.

Errrm... I think you answered your own question. If it's that "basic", why haven't you done it?... :pIn my defense, I've only had my Hermes for about 48 hours now. http://simla.colostate.edu/~bseek/kissyface.gif

I was just kinda hoping that someone more knowledgeable with/about chemicals would know which chemical would do the trick and wouldn't skullfuck the finish of the device. Something like the sugar cube trick for the MDA/Wizard, only for the 8525's plastic. Has anyone actually tried acetone-free nail polish remover?

Hell, I'm half-tempted to try it on a Cingular store demo 8525, lawl.

You could try it on the inside of the battery area. the cover itself doesnt have the same painted finish as the outside of the phone but the area around the battery and camera parts is the same as the outside on my hermes. you could see if what you want to try is going to damage the finish in there?

Maybe even under the battery? but i dont feel like pulling out my battery right now to check.

I have just removed this with "Goo Off". Works great. DO NOT LEAVE IT SIT or it will discolor the plastic. Put some on a cotton swab and rub. When it starts to come off, switch to a clean DRY swab and run IN ONE direction and in a straight line. Do not go back and forth. As you rub, spin the swab in your fingers to move the cotton to a clean section. Once a section has ink on it, DO NOT RE-USE it. Swabs are cheap so go through them. White comes off easier than orange for some reason.
