View Full Version : Sleep Mode Issues

I got my TyTN (QTEK_102) for a few days now, and immediately encountered the sleep mode problem.

I have searched the forums and found a chaotic pile of different problems related to that issue, with "solutions" such as the ActiveSync Fake Server hack, uninstalling some software that integrates into the Today screen etc.

I have encountered two functionally different problems with the sleep mode (i.e. the mode where you are supposed to still receive calls, but the device appears as if turned off), which might or might not have the same cause:

1) When going into sleep mode (either automatically, or by pressing the On/Off-Button shortly), it doesn't wake up. By the way, I'm talking of regular battery mode here, so it's not the "charging overnight" issue that I've read about (though that might have the same cause).

2) When in sleep mode, you are supposed to receive calls - unfortunately it doesn't (but, sometimes SMSes did get through).

Now 1) I've been able to fix with the Fake Server hack - for a while. Right now, even doing that, and going into sleep mode, it won't get back up.

I have no idea how to fix 2).

What I'd like to know now is whether this happens on all models (or at least on all models with the same software - mine is the standard German one with CID QTEK_102, ROM-Version 1.18.257.2, ROM-Date 07/22/06).

If there are people out there who have the exact same device and ROM-version I have, and they do not have these problems at all, I'll try to send it back to get a replacement device, since these issues render the device rather unusable as a phone (which was the main reason I got this device - otherwise I would have gotten a dedicated PDA, for a much lower price). IMO, these issues are not justified for a device of this price class.

Oh, and also: what is the likeliness of the announced HTC ROM update fixing these issues? Plus, what is the probability of that Update being available for the german version with CID QTEK_102?

Instead of sending the device back (and getting a new one... which possibly has just the same issues again), I've also been thinking of disabling going into sleep mode automatically (in battery options). The main question is how fast the battery is drained without the sleep mode compared to when there's a functional sleep mode - anyone know this?

Any further suggestions?

Anyway, I upgraded my TyTN to that AKU3.3 Test ROM and the problem still persists - standby/Sleep mode is just unusable for me.

Can this actually be a hardware defect? I'm seriously considering sending it back now to get a replacement device.

I dont know if this helps, but I had exactly the same issue with the TyTn. My phone would not receive calls or messages whilst the phone was in sleep mode. I say I would not receive, well in fact I did, but my phone did not come out of sleep mode to nitify me. If I pressed the power button to bring my phone out of sleep, it would then recognise that I have messages and missed calls from when my phone was sleeping. Orange in the UK swapped my handset and now I don't get that problem.

The alternatives is having your phone not go into sleep mode. I tried this before the swap, and battery life was a lot shorter, and it appears that the screen was starting to become damaged from the images "burning" into the screen.

If I was you, I would get your phone replaced, it is faulty.

Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot! I just opted for a refund after sending it in. Now I have to decide what to do next: spend the money on a HTC Herald, or go for another TyTN...

When it worked, it was really great, so I definitely want another one...

Though maybe I should wait until the announced AKU3 ROM Update actually comes out for it (or at least for the Version I would have).

Disable sleep mode completely. When enabled on average I was forced to soft reset my device 3-6 times a day. After disabling it 3 days ago I have not had to soft reset once and have not ran into any issues at all.
