Everybody these days is discussing the upcoming GPS ROM for our favorite Trinity, but the next question is: will a new ROM come out to upgrade our baby to the newly announced Windows Mobile 6.0 ?

Will keep my fingers crossed and hope for it ... On the Himalayas & Blue Angels which started off as WM2003, there are ROMS (unofficial) for WM2003SE, WM5 (latest AKU 3.5) while on the Magician it has always stuck on WM2003SE.
So in short, pray hard. I will join you in praying as I would love to have WM6 on my trinity as well ;-)
PS : Now we got the GPS to work on the trinity, any luck to 'enable' the FM radio as well? There has been speculation on the FM Radio being available on the Trinity. :-D that would make this one of the most feature packed PPC on earth ..

I agree. I don't see Trinity's successor being released anytime soon so they should just go ahead with keeping their latest phone up to date.
As for the FM radio, hell yeah, if it's there, why the hell not enable it? Oh, wait, don't tell me... is the FM radio conflicting with the Bluetooth?

if we can DUMP an original Hong Kong ROM from Trinity we can make a FM Radio test with European or American version :)

I think theres a fair chance of a WM6 tom given that the Trinity is reasonably new, from all accounts there is no Trinity successor on the horizon, and with all their variants im sure the Hermes/Trinity will recieve user-made WM6s.
Fingers crossed anyway.
Fingers crossed for all that bought it sure, but there ARE trinity/tytn successors in the horizon.
For example look for HTC Kaiser, a thinner Tytn with GPS (i.e. everything that tytn and trinity is now).

Don't expect an official update. This is the reply I received from HTC:
Thank you for your enquiry concerning the HTC P3600 mobile device.
Unfortunately we will not upgrade our current devices to include the Mobile 6 software.? However, there will be new devices out which will include the software.
Should you have any other problem, please do not hesitate to call us. Your Local number can be found at Http://www.europe.htc.com/support/cs_by_phone.html

quite strange! Microsoft annunced yesterday WM6 saying it will be possible to upgrade some "old" devices like t-mobile dash with WM6!

The question is: when will they release an official P3600 successor?
And how much it will cost. And if it is worth waiting for it.
Tytan you are not very long in the PocketPC world eh?
"possible to upgrade" doesn't mean "the vendor will do it"
same happened in the past (more than once)
Well ... if they in fact do not release a WM6 update for the D810, then it will only hamper their sales in Australia, seeing that they only released the D810 on Jan 16th (1 month ago). So, as new WM devices are released with WM6, it will make it hard to compete if they do not provide a WM6 update ... regardless of all the functions this puppy has.
The question is: when will they release an official P3600 successor?
And how much it will cost. And if it is worth waiting for it.
We have already talked about that. Look at google.

Couple of announcements started coming out from 3GSM on upgrades, Imate to upgrade a few, Palm to upgrade Treo, nothing from HTC so I doubt it.
I've found HTC to be follower not a leader in these type of things, same goes for their products, they are only inavative if they have to be. I guess if enough people complain and they get enough bad rap they might but from everything I've seen with HTC, they couldn't give to <fill in any explicit word here> about their customers.
Doesn't matter, Trinity will tied me over until some of those new Imate devices come out, if they live up to the specs coming out of 3GSM, there will be some pretty amazing devices, I can't want to see the clamshell one, hope it comes in HTC killing black as well as gold :)

There will always be successor phones in most instances, even the prophet is getting a near frivilous sucessor which was announced at the 3GSM conference (on htc website now)
For me it just comes down to how long your willing to wait. In Australia for example look at imate and dopod took them 5 months after the world release to get the jasjam and 838 Pro here.
As for phones like the Kaiser which will probably run WM6 they arent coming out to Q3/Q4 so by the time they hit Australian shores you could be looking december 07 or early 08 (which seems probable since it appears HTC is aiming for year long life-cycles of its popular devices, the kaiser out in Q3 would have given the TyTN a year run pretty much).
Given that on other forums there are WM6 ROMS for the universal and Wizard im quitely confident, again, with their popularity, of seeing user created WM6 ROMS.

So looks like the answer is NO
http://mobilitytoday.com/news/htc_wm6_upgrade.html
Well, let's say it is officially no
But I'm sure there will be a one genius who will help us with this, specially that the Trinity right now is one of the best PDA phones out there with all features packed in to it. I believe it also have enough memory to handle WM6....
But the question is, how important is WM6 ?! what extra will we get from it when compared to the existing WM5 (beside the more polished UI)

Apparently WM6 has an online update feature and much better security certificate abilities. If it is only eye candy, I don't care about WM6. If I can get more functionality then I want it. I've also read that it is more stable but I need to hear that from more source than one. They already have WM6 running on the Wizard and the Prophet. It is only a matter of time before we get it for the Trinity.

According to Mobinaute (Interview of Frédéric Tassy, Director of HTC France at the HTC Press conference of Paris 20.02.06)
http://www.mobinaute.com/69989-htc-wm6-s620-p3300-x7500-strategie-2007.html
Only HTC X7500 Advantage, HTC P3300 and HTC S620 will benefit from the free Windows Mobile 6 update.
This update should be available before June.

our hope is that dopod realise a wm6 for trinity, has anyone asked dopod about their position since that htc will not upgrade it?
most probably Mobinaute is correct
seems logical - P3600/TyTN have a planner HARDWARE replacement, but P3300 has to remain competitive somehow (while for P3600 and TyTN they don't care)

No, but I asked HTC's European support team whether we should expect it and they replied:
Thank you for contacting HTC Europe regarding a query about ROM update.? I am afraid that as no phones have reached market with windows mobile 6 yet, an update is not currently available.? They may have been announced, but none are yet available to buy.
We are currently awaiting an official response from our Head Office on the matter of ROM updates from Windows Mobile 5.0 to Windows Mobile 6.0. We hope to have an answer for you soon.? Please contact us again in a few weeks and we may be able to give you an update.

From what website can I download the latest software version?
If your handset is branded to a specific network operator please contact them or look on their web-site for details.
At present no software upgrades to HTC branded products are available.

as now, it's almost official that HTC will upgrade to WM6: t-mobile dash, s620, s710, X7500. It proves that HTC is not fully opposed to upgrade devices and it leaves me an hope to have WM6 on Trinity (BTW, i'll get my new trinity in some days)

Hi,
You meant sound to the bluetooth or just the wired headset? I don't think we have a problem with the wired headset when we use skype. It's the bluetooth headset that you need to work around for it to go to.

Petitions are good but when you have thousands of customers sending individual messages demanding an upgrade, and then returning a response to their reply, well it's a lot harder for them to ignore, not to mention their support staff have to deal with the influx of emails.
With that said, if reports of Depod telling customers that a WM6 rom will be available for the 810, it's pretty good chances that we'll see an official P3600 WM6 upgrade since they will already have one. Not to mention that considering the P3600 is still pretty knew and people will be more inclined to purchase the latest OS over the older OS and Microsoft is providing an upgrade to OEMs, it's should be a pretty safe bet to say they will release it. Unless of course they are planning to discontinue the P3600 anytime soon.
I think it's just an oversight by whomever wrote the press release, well I hope it is
