Just flashed the new rom and put in a Transcend 4GB SDHC card.
After suspending and awakening the device twice, there is already one directory that appears empty.
So unfortunately it seems that the SDHC problems haven't been fixed in this release.

Yes, but please do not add any icon from the programs on SD Card, otherwise if you plug out the card, the PPC will hang

SDHC can't be use on ppcphones currently, it isn't only dopod. But hope there will be a new firmware update that allows support of larger mini-sd cards soon...

You can still use the old type miniSD cards which are available in 4gb. I'm using one now. It also has the added advantage of working in most card readers, not so for SDHC.

@walterem
The DOPOD WWE upgrade checks the CID (CountryID). If you use "des" tool SSPL to start bootloader - see also http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293632 - then it will work for sure.

I think this statement needs to be qualified a bit.
It is true that the official specs for the Trinity does not mention SDA 2.0 (the ones for the Herald does, at least in some places), and that when I got my P3600 with the initial rom, it wouldn't recognize a SDHC card at all.
After installing the first GPS enabled test rom, the SDHC card was now recognized and could be used, although with the same problems that several people have reported in this forum.
So I don't think it's without reason to assume that the Trinity really has the necessary hardware for using SDA 2.0 cards, and that it's just the firmware that still needs a little work.

Hi to all, this is my frist post and please forgive me for my question.
I'm really a newbe and after serching in the forum i have still some doubts:
1) This rom is the official Dopod rom? Or is so called final but is not, let me say, the retail one?
2) I've an official european 3600/Trinity (not branded) with obviously some default programs (Adobe, Word Excel, Midlet Manager etc..) What of this Sw can I loose? In this final rom what is embedded?.
I'm very worried to break forever my "expansive" device.....
Thanks a lot

You can always flash back a ROM of the same operator - noone will see there was another ROM on it. This is a definite advantage of Des' tool over the paid-for IMEI-check unlocker.

thank's, that's what i wanted to know...
for example, we flash with dopod rom and if i have problems, i can flash back to original htc rom and delivery it to warranty...
it is possible because using des' tool it will always remain the same cid, isn't it?

I've just download the new rom update, and I've tried to (re)attach usb cable, but the rom update doesn't work there is a connection problem,
1.- I copied the SSPL-trin to the device
2.- I run the SSPL-trin and the SPL version number ends in ".ds" so everything should be fine.
3.- I reattach the device with usb cable and run the rom update: RUU_Trinity_DOPODASIA_WWE_1.23.707.6_6275_1.35.00. 11_108_Ship.exe
4.- I've tried with "allow USB connections" check and unchecked, and the problem is device "not recognized" by usb cable or "connection problem" in the update utility.
I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but....(yes I've read the forum...) please someone could help me?

Maybe you must be superCID to use this rom upgrade utility, has anyone upgrade with this "RUU_Trinity_DOPODASIA_WWE_1.23.707.6_6275_1.35.00. 11_108_Ship.exe" using the SSPL-trin?
Could you please explain how did you make it?
mdacfan
12-02-2007, 01:38 PM
@chenchon
my way:
1. extract RUU_Trinity_DOPODASIA_WWE_1.23.707.6_6275_1.35.00. 11_108_Ship.exe with WinRAR to XP PC (NewFolder)
2. connect phone to windows XP PC (activesync status green)
3. copy the SSPL-trin to the device ie. \temp (memory) - not storage card
4. run the SSPL-trin (Trinity Display must then show "USB" at the bottom) - wait until XP detects a new USB device
5. run from the extracted file on XP PC (NewFolder) the file "ROMUpdateUtility.exe"
6. Pass all Upgrade questions and wait about 10 Minutes to finish the upgrade from 0% to 100%
7. Softreset Trinity after the successfull upgrade
No SuperCID required if you use SSPL !!
good luck,
Gerhard

So, does this official ROM contain any other goodies than the GPS? Is it worth installing if you've already installed the "unofficial" GPS version? It's a pain to re-setup your device each time, so I'd like to avoid it if it's not necessary!

Afterwards i loaded my backup with spbbackup back on the device.
If i look now in the system properties, it still says rom 1.23.707.2, but all the other infos (radio/protocoll/date) is from the new rom.
Can that be come from the backup i imported ?

I believe you all have me to thank for this update coming out today.
See, I spent three hours yesterday re-setting up my Trinity, so naturally a new ROM comes out today necessitating me to do the same thing over again.
In fact, after I do this, an HTC branded one will come out tomorrow or something, with a slightly higher version, and I'll do it all over again.
Is there a good free backup program I can use, that will save all my programs and the like without overwriting the entire registry of a newly installed ROM with old values? Contacts and other things (favourites, etc) would be good too because I don't sync that stuff to Outlook.
Thanks as usual!
This ROM works fine also on italian TIM branded HTC P3600, i used Des SSPL method. Just use this cab to customize GPRS/UMTS/MMS for TIM:

Depending on which version of the Test ROM you have got. In any case, if you use this official ROM, when you reset your device, there is no 'Not for sale, test Rom' message :-D
If you have the older test Rom (Radio ver 1.29), then you won't get the GPS Photo & HDSPA Icon that comes with the new test Rom & official rom.
So far I don't see much difference between the newer test Rom (w Radio 1.33) with the official Dopod Rom (Radio 1.35). Beside the fact that there is no 'Not for sale' message ;-)
Makes my Trinity more 'precious' .... it's worth every second to reinstall again.

Consider yourself lucky you spend only 3 hours. I spend half a day the day before yesterday to troubleshoot a conflict of programs, and 5 hours yesterday to reinstall the new test Rom (w Radio 1.33), and today ... I used up 2 hours to reinstall everything.
A good backup software? Forget it. Do the manual reinstall. Think of it as spending 'quality' time with your precious Trinity. Bet no one else spent so much time with their non-PPC phones huh? TRINITY ROCKS!!!

The first time I tried to update it would get to the screen with the progress bar and the phone would spontaneously reset. Tried this a dozen times with the same result. So then I ran the SSPL-TRIN.exe as per intructions and it made it to the progress bar which started to move so I thought all was well. After a minute the updater came back with ERROR(276) which isn't even listed in the recovery report. Tried the recovery steps over and over with no change. I am currently stuck in boot loader. What do I try now??

Hey all, im just wondering how long is it taking for these devices to locate the GPS? Once its finds a signal does it continue to hold it?
Cheers.
Hi Guys,
I've heard that the official ROM will be out on 14th, Valentine's day.. a call to dopodasia mentioned the ROM that was out on their site for an hr or so had some problems, thus the removal. they're working on it to improve it for the 14th release.

Does anyone notice that the new ROM connects to Activesync a bit differently? The port name is now something like "HTC generic serial port", whereas the original ROM had something like "RDIS ...."?

Took the plunge & flashed the dopod rom - would have been happier if I could have dumped my current one but...
All went smoothly - launched tomtom assigned com port and waited. Took less than 3 mins TTF - much faster than my Loox 560 with a sirf III (& im in central london).
Genuinly surprised by TTF - haven't done a road test yet but so far all seems fine on GPS front. 12 Sats and a steady fix.
I also notice that I have a 2 bar signal (voda UK) in my basement where I had no reception before so I'm happy.

Did u do a 'restore' from any previous backup software? I have no problem with a fresh installation. I know that most backup/restore software doesn't go well with our messaging.

How can I enable the GPS Data and HSDPA icon?
I upgrade from old test rom to official rom and using celcom.
By default the new test Rom & official Dopod Rom (w Radio 1.35) enable GPS on Com 9. You need to set your GPS software to use Com 9.
To enable GPS icon in the setting tab, change in registry:
In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings
1. Delete the DWORD marked Hide (if present)
2. Delete the DWORD marked Redirect (if present)
3. Add a DWORD called Group and give it a value of 2
4. Soft reset the device.
See this thread to see screenshot of the GPS icon in the setting tab : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1133209#post1133209
As for HSDPA Icon, it is enabled automatically with the Dopod official Rm (w Radio 1.35). Once u r in a HSDPA enable area, and connect to data connection, you will see a 'H" icon. No registry hack needed. I was told that this is possibly network dependent also. On the Maxis network this works fine.
See screenshot below for the 3G icon and HSDAP icon ('H').

Folks,
Help!
I unlocked and get this one downloaded and upgraded
ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/Trinity/Shipped_Complete_Updates/RUU_Trinity_CHT_1.23.751.6_6275_1.31.00.11_108_Shi p(GPS).exe
First run gives 260 error code. I reboot PC and try. Then the upgrade process seems fine but after rebooting D810 it shows D 1.23 and then just hang up with blue back groun picture showing some 3G and some ads words and stopped. I try reboot again and again it just doesn't work. I try upgrade the same ROM again. But this time it stop at 1% and quit with error 294.
My dopod is dead now.
I can only run bootloader mode. Its tri-color screen shows
TRIN100
IPL-0.50
TRIN100
SPL-1.07.0000
...
USB
When I try the latest RUU above, it goes to 1% and my Dopod D810 reset itself.
When soft or hard reset, it shows:
a screen of HTC innnovation logo
M 05
B 05
D 1.23
and then show
No GSM
and then a logo screen and halt
Any professional can help how to resume original ROM version. I just want my Dopod back, please.

Does the date format on your today screen look like this??
Tuesday
13 February 2007
with 2 lines after the Rom upgrade?? No matter what my long date format is...it still shows 2 lines. Not a big problem...but it's 1 of those things that bugs me... :P
Anyway to return things back to normal?? Preferably through registry...I already have enough today plugins running...hope to avoid another 1 just to change the format of my date.
Thanks a lot guys for reading!!

unfortunatelly, i dont' have my Trinity handy at this stage but what I would do is this:
simple overwriting of ace_ddi.dll with one extracted from pre-release firmware might address this issue.
ace_ddi.dll is video driver file.
Many forum members noticed increased video performance of pre-release firmware. While production firmware video performance is average.
That makes me think that replacing ace_ddi.dll might solve this issue.
Sorry, I can not verify till Monday. Have no device on hand.
Please note: replacing ace_ddi.dll might force you to perform Hard Reset. Please back up you data before proceeding..

I have upgreded the HTC P3600 with the Dopod Ship firmware. All went well as far as GPS (Destnator and iGo2007) and Greek keyboard is concerned.
I do have a problem with receiving phone calls. (note that I only have GSM not 3G) when a call is incoming the phone does not ring, Instaed there is a
note appearing in the place of the left soft Key (initially this was Calendar which I have changed to Messaging) and says Call Status. If I can then answer I do receive the call and it is ok. Othrwise I lose the call.
Can anyone tell me what have I done wrong?

The solution is easy. You must have aregistry editor capability.
Then do the following.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings]
"Hide"=dword:00000000 (change to 0 the 1 which is present)
"Group"=dword:00000002 (write a new one dword "Group" and with the value 2)

Get a program that can change the registry on your p3600, like resco explorer for example. Then on your p3600 change the values as mentioned above.
But even without this registry change, GPS will work like it should.

Protocol version: 32.68.7020.10H

Trying to run TomTom 6, it's reporting "Waiting for a valid GPS signal". How can I tell if it is a TomTom problem, or a problem with the PDA ? (or the operator/coverage?!?!?)

Waiting for GPS signals means tomtom "sees" your GPS chip, but has no signal from the satellites. First fix may take quite long, 5 to 10 minutes sometimes, you might try a program called GPSinfo, you can actually see the "amount" of signal your p3600 gets, so you can check the working of it...

Well after 4 months of continuous problems with my xda atom exec (repaired once, replaced once, still problems, gave up) I am getting it replaced with a dopod d810. can anyone tell me whether the rom everyone is discussing about can be directly loaded onto an australian dopod d810? or does it detect that it is not a SE asian one and refuse to install. Hi,
I got my update installed and running with minor issues on my dopod d810 on Australian optus network.
After installing the update (I did not require the SuperCID bypass as the phone was not locked), I just had to do the registry patch for the icon to appear.
Got myself a gps information app installed, set, and after few minutes it was tracking 8-10 sats.
Next, I'll have to get a navigation app to make it usefull :)

Got my D810 from Optus the other day. Since I installed the GPS Rom my reception/signal strength has gone from great to very poor. Have you noticed any difference?
I spoke with the service centre in Sydney, they did not reccomend in using the international GPS Rom as it is not configured for our networks/providers etc.
They are hopeful of the Australian GPS Rom to be released some time this month...........................
Send me a private message about GPS software that you are "looking at";) I might be able to help you with a good online reseller.................
I hope I dont have to send my unit back......................

Greetings,
I just installed the Dopod 1.23.707.6 ROM on my HTC P3600. Seems to work great, and the GPS functionality is very impressive, it finds and locks onto satellites even from inside my house and lying on the center console of my car. This is something none of my other satnav units are able to do, including a couple of very expensive marine chart plotters.
Anyway, I have found that it shows different names for the cellular networks - my home network, which every other phone has shown as "UMTS Telia" is now "Sweden UMTS 3G" and when it is connected to Telia's GSM network, it shows the roaming indicator.
None of this appears to have any effect on functionality, I'm just curious why the Dopod version does this. After flashing, I soft reset before the Dopod customization, so I expected I would get none of the Dopod specific stuff.
Would be interested to be able to shed some light on this.

I unlocked mine this time with the paid imei-check method, since I bricked my TyTN while trying to flash using the SSPL tool. Probably not caused by the tool, just a bad flash because of a comm error, but better safe than sorry.
I've just tried Google Maps so far, and Efficasoft GPS Utilities, but I have a Route 66 Navigator 7 map package on order from Dustin.

Anyone with Gprs issues after the new dopo asia rom might want to keep an eye on this:

Can anyone tell me whether If i try this rom (and it doesn't work or not happy etc) can I go to an official ROM with earlier version numbers (i.e the dopod 810 hutchison '3' rom also mentioned in another thread)?

I found another DOPOD file with an autorun function on this forum, worked out just fine! Have not yet implemented any gps SW on my 3600, but I got TomTom 6.010 on dvd from a friend today... So this evening will be, as you can say: Home-safe by the computer...

what is the brand of your 4g mini sd card? where did you buy it?
thanks!
You can still use the old type miniSD cards which are available in 4gb. I'm using one now. It also has the added advantage of working in most card readers, not so for SDHC.

I bought the TopRam from eBay. Just search there and you'll find them. There has been a lot of people complaining of problems with their miniSD cards in the Trinity. I don't know if it is a hardware issue or not, but I suspect it is a ROM issue.
I have had no problems with my Trinity and this TopRam 4gb card. It is mostly filled with apps, maps, and music. However, I'm running the Dopod Test ROM, maybe it is more stable, i don't know. I also did most of the WM5 performance tweaks listed in the Wiki which increases buffers in the system.
As I've said before, since these cards are working in lots of other devices fine, I don't think the cards are always the cause of the problems experienced with the Trinity. New ROMs are coming...although that is no guarantee of a fix.

I haven't done a ROM upgrade before and I have a couple of questions...
1) Will I loose all my programs when I update the ROM?
2) Will I loose my contacts etc?
3) Is this flash compatible with any provider? (I am with 3 Mobile Australia - will I loose my provider setting etc?)
4) Does flashing with this ROM void my warranty?

3) Yes the ROM is compatible but also Yes you will lose your provider settings

Well, I've got this ROM installed with a working GPS now but I don't know which navigation software to use. I purchased Route 66 Navigator but had to return it because it will not work with the Trinity GPS.
I'm considering the iGO software, which apparently has quite a following, but they have no trial version so I was wondering if anyone has tried iGO on this device?
Don't want to make another purchase only to find it doesn't work.
Why don't I buy Tomtom? Well, I want to be different. :)

To enable GPS icon in the setting tab, change in registry:
In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings
1. Delete the DWORD marked Hide (if present)
2. Delete the DWORD marked Redirect (if present)
3. Add a DWORD called Group and give it a value of 2
4. Soft reset the device.
Hi y'all... I've successfully installed the Dopod ROM, but when i did what mr alvinlim28 said to get the GPS icon, it does not boot. It gets past the Dopod logo, but when there should be a Windows "boot-up" screen, it's just white.
Is there a way to fix this, or did this f*ck up my phone? Feels odd that a deleted DWORD can f*ck up the phone so brutally...
Thanks in advance

**EDIT**
I got the phone to boot, just did a Factory Reset. Even though, i can't find the GPS settings. I've tried to change the value of Hide to 0 and adding the Group DWORD with value 2 decimal but then it still "whites-out" ..
I've installed a software named GPSInfo and i get some points, though no Fix yet, but in a while maybe. Is there another way to get the GPS icon and settings?
Is it enough to change the value of Hide to 0 or do i really need the Group DWORD? What exactly is the Group DWORD for?
Thanks again

Try Wayfinder Navigator (www.wayfinder.com). You can check if it works before you pay. Wayfinder has the advantage of being available for many operating systems so if your next phone is not a WM phone you can still use the license. They even have a Java applet version that I used for a while; it works on all phones and is impressive.
I believe the latest WM version is compatible with the Trinity internal GPS.
The only drawback is that the software connects to a server so there is some data traffic cost to add to the license cost (preloading maps on the phone reduces the amount of data traffic).
BTW Wayfinder is a Swedish company based in Lund so if anything goes wrong you can yell at them in your mothertongue :D

Yes, I've tried Wayfinder, and also Wisepilot (also available as "Telia Navigator"), another Swedish company with a concept almost identical to Wayfinder. They both work with the Trinity but what disqualifies them for me is that they both rely on the WM5 input methods for specifying destinations - they don't have their own larger size virtual keyboards - so destinations pretty much have to be entered with the device in hand; inconvenient when you have the device in a car mount.
Also, their on screen graphics are a generation behind the beautiful iGo. I did get confirmation that iGo works on the Trinity so I've decided to go that route.

Yes, I did find that out. Beautiful piece of software - I've placed an order for iGo already.
Great rom, just bloody tomtom doesnt work, same issues as on LSTW's rom. Random freezing.
Bugger.

Well I jumped in on this one.
Am on 3 Aust.
Rom Flash went well. 3 Stuff in Ext rom, put all its settings back after the flash.
Had to do GPS Registry Hack.
Found that using tomtom 6.02 and below, didn't have freezing issue, but had to set up GPS device on each start of program.
On tomtom 6.03 there is an option for a built in GPS reciever, which now works perfectly. I am using baud of 115200, Com9 for Hardware and GPD1 for GPS program port.
Manage GPS automatically also ticked. Have set BAUD of 115200 in tomtom also. Have not noticed any freezing as yet.
Am amazed by the GPS reception in this device with no external antenna.

Well that means that tomtom sees the GPS device at least. It can take quite awhile the first time to get signal. Try standing outside and or not be moving in a car.

Well nope... not for me. It uses less power in my usage scenario than Bluetooth would do (which is already quite power-efficient). Don't you have the screen-brightness set too high while navigating ? (that uses a lot of power if you don't have a charger connected whilst driving).
The REAL battery-killers in the Trinity are active 3G connections and the WiFi radio... :(
