I get "unable to obtain a server-assigned IP address. Try again later or enter an IP address in network settings" randomly and even when no networking is running. Any ideas how to fix this?!

I had this too, but can't remember if I had this after updating the ROm to the dopod one or before, so it might just be a bug in the HTC ROM.

I have this problem (sometimes) and I am using the standard HTC ROM.

I have also this problem sometime.
But now I don't see this message anymore.... (no change of ROM but I unticked the flag in settigns / connexion ./ USB -> PC / advanced network )
It might have nothing to do of course.
It could also come from the key : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/comm/RNDISFN1/Parms/Tcpip which is by default = 1 => need a DHCP to find a IP address
or not :o)

I think it's just a windows mobile "feature". I get it on my 3600, used to get it on my wizard with various firmware versions...it never went away. Always really random.
Get used to it :)

In fact it has nothing to do with that. I don't use the advanced network settings for USB to PC (my firewall blocks the activesync connection if I do) but I still get that error message once in a while.
I think the error message is displayed when the DHCP lease expires. If one connects to a WLAN or via GPRS often enough to renew the address before the lease expires then the message doesn't show.
