he's downloaded a generic image from Microsoft.
the image is useless, you CANNOT get it onto your Hermes, or any other device for that matter; only HTC can do that.

launch setup.exe and follow the prompts. you need to have windows 3.11 for workgroups on your desktop PC with MSDOS 6.22.

No, you're wrong. He needs a dual-Itanium x64 CPU with 4GB of ram, 5TB harddrive (that's a "T" on purpose), and at LEAST Windows Vista Ultimate with Office 2007 Ultimate (all retail, and all activated). Then, you take the whole lot and throw it out your window and wait for HTC to put it on the device.

"nk.nbf"? Good luck installing it
Spank me if I'm wrong but the officially supported method to upgrade the ROM on the Hermes is through signed (encrypted) NBH files. Anything else is hanky-panky as far as HTC is concerned. So the package you found is most likely for another phone.

if i'm not mistaken, that's the Universal 'wm6cb' release, ie not for the hermes

that means that I cannot install WM on any device? because my Toshiba g500 has a software which crashes after showing the welcome screen (TOSHIBA). DO i have to return it or is there any way to solve it myself?

bashma, is it a Hermes you're trying to put WM06 on?
You need to put the WM MADE FOR YOUR DEVICE on. If you try to put a version on that isn't made for your device you will end up with a brick. Its like trying to build a dvd player with chinese instructions, you know whats supposed to happen, it just won't start.....

You need to find what version of wM is needed. You won't find it here...
