It is known that Microsoft & the Carriers watch this forum. I think this single thread demonstrates the desire for WM6 on the Hermes. HINT HINT....

Until anyone can PROVE everything I claim in this thread there is no worry.;) Hence the extreme caution in removing traces before release...

I hope people are having the respect, to let you get on with your work, instead of bombarding you with pm's asking you to include this and include that and when is it going to be released/

People should just be grateful and patient...........

I agree! The more we bother these guys, the more time they have to spend reading our crap and the less time they can work on their Crossbow release. LEAVE THEM ALONE!

It's just a classic example of posting in a thread before reading it from beginning to end.

By the way, can someone tell me where I can download this XDA Live edition, and then tell me how to enable GPS on my device, finally can someone give me a link to download the Photon rom?

These are NOT HERMES CROSSBOW!!!

When XDA Live is released it will be announced here by me.

I don't know if keny is another victim of the joke or the jokester himself but I'm deleting this chatter from the XDA Live Thread.

That's the main question, Are we there yet?
Is It this Weekend/By the end of this Weekend?
During Next Week?

BTW as far as previous post with the DUD "WM6 TyTN ROM" such a waste of bandwidth.... they're playing with our anxiety  :(

Since I have an 8525 I don't have the Video Call option. I need to know how this integrates into system.

Is it a button on the dialer or launched by pressing a hardware key.

Also I need screenshots of the interface so I can make the colors match where they should.

just think of wm6.0 as vista. not much new in vista compare to xp.
so... not much new in wm6.0 from wm5.0, then u will feel better and dont mind the long wait..
that' what i do..

But the fact is that there ARE a lot of improvments compare to WM5.

Of course you can choose to wait patiently, but that don't have to be done thinking WM6 is nothing much.

I wait patiently because I know there are people busy doing their work to make the OS available, not because WM6 is no big deal.

Having Windows Live alone is already a good enough reason to those who can't live without MSN Messenger or Live Mail to think WM6 is great.

24th February 2007, 10:32 PM
In fact I am not even a Hermes user yet. I am asking my friend to get a set for me from Shanghai, the local set here in Singapore is just too expensive.

But I am already very keen to find out whether there is WM6 ready for my upcoming Hermes.

I have a feeling how this will turn out. Because this is taking so long time microsoft will soon send a letter to kyphur that says something like this. "If you release this rom We will emty all your creditcards, steal your childrens candy, and rape your grandma, and make sure that you'l never can use a microsoft product ever again. :-) Damn I hope the last one happens to me and that I'll grab the rom before this come true.

@ kyphur

I have vodafones version the V1605 which does video calls so im assuming its similar to the 8525.

There a number of ways I know of to initiate the video call:

Through a hard button on the front of the device

A Soft button on the dialler screen

Holding down the centre select key (the one in the centre of thw 4 way rocker) on a contact when browsing and selecting video call from the context menu.

Hope that helps and id like to add my thanks to you for teh work your putting in

Matt

P.S ill work on the screen shots but first i need to fix my device i seem to have screwed up the colouring on the dialler as i have pink boxes around my numbers when it should all be blue

I thought M$ would in fact benefit from more people using their new OS? What's there for them to complain? If there are official versions available for sale I would purchase one as well, within a reasonable price of course.

They just don't understand. *shrugs*

It is a button on the dialer screen. The rightmost column from top to bottom is: <-, Speed Dial, Call History, Video, Talk. So the Video button is just right of the "wxyz9" button. I think the other access methods will get automatically installed by installing the .cab mentioned below.

Have a look into the .cab I uploaded two days ago (you do have the WinCE CAB Manager, right?). If I remember correctly, you'll see references to the button images in there. As the .cab I sent you is a generic HTC one, it references only image files which are part of any HTC ROM, so you should be able to extract them from such a ROM. Thinking about it, they should even be in the WM6 image you're working on.

Cheers

that's what i do, I found one next to my college with 8mb SDSL! (8mb/s Download AND Upload :) )

just a tip, if im right in guessing the source, that text on the today screen and the appendage on the versions has only been seen in that rom and before then no-one knew the reg-key for it, if your trying to make it so it doesnt look like it came from your source surely deleting that key would be the best option?

keep up the good work :D

Actually the DeviceBeta Key has alwyas been there. The wiki even lists it as a way to put your own text on the today screen.

If this was a brand new Reg Key I never would ahve mentioned it...

I've got to the point where I am modifying the registry hv (the file that builds the initial clean registry upon hard reset so any operator artifacts have been stripped from it.

You can see there is a hardware button on the Left at a 45 degree from the softkey buttons.
On the dialler screen it is self evident, second from the bottom on the far right.

All the best.

I'm not good with photoshop either, so I just attached the original WM5 HTC .bmps of the Video Call button. For someone who knows his Photoshop, it should be simple to extract the handset, eye, and text, convert it to white color, and put it on top of a blank button image.

For the sake of completeness, I also added the Talk button bitmaps. The text "Talk" is contry specific and not part of the bitmap.

Say when we decided to use one of the themes included on the screenshots page, will it update the dialer with the same colour scheme??

For example when i installed the Aero Crossbow theme on my TyTN it looked fine but when i went into the dialer it still had the green HTC colour scheme. Is this nothing to do with the theme?

I have a question which i don't think has been asked yet, what is the status of the new wm6 rom with regards to IPL/SPL versions... for instance will we be able to downgrade back to wm5 etc or will the bootloader lock us into this version forever....

also do we need to have our devices already supercided ready or is there a workaround for this in the install which i hope we'll all get....

what will be the version of bootloader, radio, ext rom etc... does it have an extanded rom area and can that be unlocked using pof's tools or do we start again from scratch with this new wm6 version.....

hope this gives you guys enough to answer until the rom is released.....

I think the rom/radio/ext rom versions are part of the cleanup, since each vendor has their own version this may give away who it came from. Also the new SSPL can flash on any bootloader so this nils the need for bootloader version or supercid.

Please, stop PMing asking for the Rom, I WILL NOT BURN THE SOURCE. If I appeased those asking then it is quite possible that in the long run it could delay the official release from the carrier and certian to close a very good source for things like this. Don't sell tommorow cheap for a little fun today.

I didn't start this thread to tease or taunt you guys. I wan't to give you hope and show that with some patience we will all have Crossbow.

I'm not the only person working on this, there are others checking my work and adding to it. I'm not the smartest guy here but I do have some time to devote to this.

No I can not promise that I will be able to release it prior to the official carrier release, sorry. I simply won't make promises I can't keep.

Yes, it will see the light of day in one form or another. The way I am scripting my changes to the Rom I can easily apply them to another Rom (from a different carrier or an updated version for this carrier).

Give the guy a break... He doesn't have to do this for us

Take as long as you need.

My hat goes off to you kyphur! We all have in our hands a cool piece of technology, but what makes it great is that it becomes something new with each upgrade of software, and the fact that we may soon have an easy solution to upgrade it to Crossbow makes it that much better.

So I say take your time, get it right, and we will forever be in your debt!

And those of us that get too impatient maybe focus on improving some other facet of the Tytn that can benefit everyone.

If you go to your control panel ("User CP" link, top-left of each page) you can manage your subscriptions and choose daily updates or instantaneous ones, etc.

from the conversations between me and kyphur it is my understanding that he is going to have smartdial, video calling, and PTT optional... they will be in the rom (more than likely in the ext rom) and it will be up to the user to install them. I definitely suggested that with PTT since its 3meg+

Now what i am curious to see is how well all 3 of these will play together.. as they all use part of the dialer.. smartdial shouldnt really be an issue, but PTT has a different dialer screen and video calling uses a different button... maybe we can make these all play well together.. are there any dialer guru's out there?

hahaha!

The only real issue is that I am bound by a promise to my source to not distribute this Rom until the Carrier releases it or I can get ALL IDENTIFYING INFORMATION removed from it. trust me, I am working on it but there is absolutely no room for errors. Ironically the Rom seems more stable since I've modified it than it was when I received it.

Does this mean WM6 will be officially released by cingular?

Can you include the attached?

Its used by vistas WMDC and for the device under My Computer. Unzip and include in \windows folder on the device...

(Note if not displayed connect device, remove PocketPC device in device manager. Disconnect device, reboot pc, reboot device and reconnect.)

Don't bother with XDA Live, get the Photon rom here:

If you noticed, it was a prank from the getaway (no offense meant here Oliy). There is no link. It just goes to that pic of "STFU Noob!!"

Btw, is there an ETA on this ROM?

Oliy
26th February 2007, 01:49 PM
Going by Kyphur's original estimate, which was about a week, would give an ETA of the 28th, Wednesday.

As he mentioned however, this is not definite and could be moved back (or forwards) depending on his success with cleaning out identifying references and the satisfaction of his "contact" with the work he has done on this.

What amazes me is that not only do people refuse to read an entire thread, but also refuse to read the last post as well.

Will VoiceCommand work properly with this ROM, or shall I continue my efforts in developing a real BT patch for VoiceCommand?

I'm hacing to do so much modding of the original DLLs that I will avoid if this ROM works correctly and comes to fruition.

I doubt it. At least not for a while even if they do..

They don't even have a roadmap for WM6 devices yet..
(At least that is what I got from the Cingular Developers Forum.)

The first product Cingular will probably have with WM6 will be a new product which the Manufactuer will have it loaded to start with..

First, yes my carrier is Cingular but that doesn't mean this Rom is from Cingular. I'm actually blending bit & pieces together from Different Roms (at least 2 WM6 Roms and a few files from AKU 3.3 for PTT etc.).

PTT, SmartDialer & Voice Call are not native to this Rom. We are working to add support for them.

One problem is that it looks like PTT and Video Call both enable an extra dialer button which means that we can't have them both.

I'm begining to think that I can't enable SmartDialer without adding that extra button. Maybe if folks only want SD I can include a dummy button that has no label and is always greyed-out.

This would give us 4 dialer options:

Stock, no Video Call, Smart Dialer or PTT.
Smart Dialer Only.
Video Call with Smart Dialer.
PTT with Smart Dialer,I still have just over 8 megs free in the Rom Image so we should be able to include all of the files needed for each option and then use simplified cab files to enable their choice.

Anyone here like golf? If I have the free space I'm thinking of adding "Nine Hole Golf" that MS had for free download. (I will only embed free software)

Then that just leave cleaning out the Build Numbers from the OS & Camera Apps.

I believe dh has a point. no offense to those of you golfers here, but I personally, despite loving the game in real life, don't quite like playing the game on any kind of console. is that we buy our hermes(jasjam) few month ago and steel we dont
have good and stable rom version

i cant wait longer its boring and not stable all that roms

First, since they use the same dialer extention for the button it simply will have to be one or the other, unless someone her can write me a new dialer that has two extra option buttons :)

So preserve storage space (that precious limited commodity) I should be able to have all of the required files embedded into the rom.

Then to enable your choice you will simply install the Cab file which enable your preferred dialer version. These Cab file will allow uninstall (unlike the carrier cabs) so you can change your mind.

On a side note regarding Nine Hole Golf, I'll accept suggestions on other free games that I can include but I will only embed free software and what I can put in depends on how much space is left after the essentials are there.

I agree, I find the apps more useful than games (but always happy to have those too, if there's space!).

If you're still looking for things to fill the last few bytes, how about some SIP tools?

1) SIPChange (to pick your favourite SIP)
2) QPZII and PHM Ext. Keyboard (to disable the popup SIP when you are using the slide-out keyboard).

I think that there is another SIP alternative to PHM Ext. Keyboard that is also free, but I can't remember the name offhand.

Do you mean Java or Javascript/ECMAscript?

There aren't all that many sites that require Java. Opera for WM has better Javascript support than PIE, so you could try that out.

I don't know of a PPC browser that supports a full embedded Java VM though. Most of JREs are CLDC/MIDP based anyway, rather than full Java.

Edit: Oh poop. Double posted again. Sorry :/

Oh, _that_ kind of site ;)

Well, ActiveX is binary compiled, so wouldn't run on a WM device.

Java... I don't know of any VM that plugs in to PIE. I'm not sure that you'd get a good viewing experience on this device anyway due to processing constraints.

I'd rather see an up to date Flash plugin myself, for YouTube, GoogleVideo, etc., as well as all the other Flash websites.

This additional stuff is being kept to a minimum (a couple of games and a few light apps that add functionality) They do not use any memory unless you use them.

I added PHM RegEdit so we immediately have the Added feature of a Registry Editor.

I added SMS Backup because I've read so many "Is there anyway to backup/restore my Text Messages" I felt this would be nice to have built-in.

HTweakC is there because we each have certian registry tweaks that we like and this program allows us to do them easily. Plus I like how we can save our prefences to a file, copy it to our storage card or Ext Rom and load it back after a hard reset.

VJCandelaLite is there cause it's cool to use my 8525 as a flashlight and now I can carry one less thing on my keychain!

Enough people complain about wanting to manage the auto-correction dictionary that I included it.

Hearts is there 'cause it just should be.

For those who want to cook their own Rom, I will include a version with absolutely nothing (except the Dialers for SmartDial, Voice Call & PTT). This will save you from having to remove the files and edit the configuration where they are references.

If you are not cooking your own Rom then you will see no benefit to removing these files.

Windows Mobile 6 Upgrades Available for Free to Existing Vendors
Posted by Mike Temporale @ 09:30 AM

Everyone has been wondering if their device will see an update to Windows Mobile 6. In the past, very few manufacturers and carriers have gone down that path. There's a significant cost required in buying the new license and customizing it for the device and of course, testing it on the device and networks. Hopefully things will be different this time. We've just learned that Microsoft has given a free license to vendors who will upgrade their devices. So I think it's clear that Microsoft understands the frustration that all of us feel when a new OS is released and are trying to change things. It's expected that HTC will offer upgrades for any device with a keyboard - as all of you Dash/Excalibur users are already aware. Unfortunately we don't know what Motorola or Samsung plan to do about this. The ball is in the carriers and manufacturers court. Let's hope they don't drop it. "

Well - thanks for the response ... I have managed to get the Dr. Shultz version of eten dialer with smartdial (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1143291&postcount=18) working on my device, and while the smartdial works it craps out the jog wheel functionality (to go quickly to recent dialed list or speed dial list). ALMOST sir, its "Push To Talk". Kind of like using your phone like a 2 way radio where you can just press the button and chatter to the other person without dialing. I believe it can be done to anyone with a PTT enabled device on the network. Would be like you using PTT to talk to someone the other end of the country instantly.

(correct me if im wrong people)

Im Guessing It Wouldn't Work Here As Our Carriers Do Not Support Thr PTT Function, Therferoe The Network Wouldn't Know What To Do With It.

After 5 days and 380 posts what we have ? Nothing...

As Sleuth said, there is a lot of people playing with WM6 ROMs for Hermes but nobody come to this forum to talk about or to show pics because there no need to give false hopes to people...

What we know actually is that kyphur has cooked a WM6 for Hermes who seemed to work well. This is a great news !

The bad is that he doesn't want to share with us for strange reasons :

1) kyphur is waiting for WM6 to be released... WM6 has been announced by M$ at the 3GSM congress in Barcelona and first phones with WM6 are arriving in shops. So my question is : Is this point fullfiled for you, kyphur ? Because I have to inform you that a WM6 for Hermes will never be release so don't wait for that...

2) You would like to protect your source. It is a very important point and I totally agree with that. I don't want to hear about a guy who would finish his life in jail (or on a death chair, crazy americans...). The point here is that you said you already removed chirugically all stuff who could identify your source. So now you just need to show the ROM to your source, isn't it ?

To conclude I'm a bit surprised that we are all waiting for something we will probably never have in our hands because more time it takes, less chance we have... M$ is watching us...

Please kyphur, don't give people false hopes, give them a release date or close this thread.

False hopes? At the very least everyone here now knows that WM6 is on the Hermes. The reason for sharing? Well, I got tired of all the "Is it real" and "Follow this to find it" threads, so I asked my source for the okay to post some info and screenshots (even the exact images were submitted for approval before I posted them).

I will not be goaded into "showing all of my cards" and releasing it before I can. I do not need to prove anything to you.
What we know actually is that kyphur has cooked a WM6 for Hermes who seemed to work well. This is a great news !
Actually, you really can't prove that
The bad is that he doesn't want to share with us for strange reasons :
You are incorrect, I WANT DESPERATELY TO SHARE THIS WITH EVERYONE HERE if for no other reason than just to moon M$.

Please state your sources on that cause they are contrary to what several other have said. Indeed I have received word that the Primary Base for WMXL will be released by a carrier.

2) You would like to protect your source. It is a very important point and I totally agree with that. I don't want to hear about a guy who would finish his life in jail (or on a death chair, crazy americans...). The point here is that you said you already removed chirugically all stuff who could identify your source. So now you just need to show the ROM to your source, isn't it?
There are still a few build numbers imbedded in it, I have asked my source if they want review my efforts so far to confirm that I have not missed anything. Bottom line is I made a promise when I received access to the files that made this possible, I WILL NOT BREAK THAT PROMISE. Until "Source X" gives the go ahead I can not release it.

No they probably wouldn't end up in jail or anything but it could end their access to future Roms. Why are you so willing to sell tomorrow for a quick fix today?
To conclude I'm a bit surprised that we are all waiting for something we will probably never have in our hands because more time it takes, less chance we have... M$ is watching us...

Please kyphur, don't give people false hopes, give them a release date or close this thread.
M$ can watch all they want but there is nothing they can do until it is released. They can't try to trace the source until they can get their hands on the Rom and tear it apart to dig for traces.

They can't even prove that I have WM6 as all I've posted is screenshots and we've all seen those get faked easily.

Since you are the only one calling for this thread to be closed, simply ignore it.

For your info:
There is a WM6 for Hermes (M$ used hermes as its testing platform), for all htc devices that were never upgraded there was a ready rom but carriers did'nt want to offer it (even though M$ offered to them).
And if Kyphur said that according to his source there will be official upgrade i belive it (maybe not all carriers will do it). Who would try to do all this work just to make fun of us!!!

I don't know why people just can't sit back and wait for kyphur to finish.

In relation to his source, I for one wouldn't risk my job, my career just to let a group of stangers upgrade their mobile phones.

If Kyphur decides in the end that he can't release this without risking his source, it won't be the end of the worl. We will all still be able to use our phones as before.

I am grateful for Kyphur releasing snippets of information, it is interest to learn what work is required to cook a rom. I hope one day through sites such as this I will be able to cook my own rom.

This is exactly the type of thing that Kyphur said at the beginning that prevents him from working on the rom as he must take time out to answer.

The vast majority of us wait and rely on guys like Kyphur to do this type of work because the carriers and microsnot just can't get it right. They cook these roms in the pursuit of perfection on their own time. From reading the wiki over the past few months I have realised that there is a team of very clever people working to make our phones better than they are when purchased.

Abusing them just wastes their precious time. When it is ready and it can be released I believe it will be. The majority of us still will wait patiently.:)

it is a race to see whether Cingular/HTC gets around to officially releasing the ROM upgrade we all already have (and love/hate) or whether this XDA ROM will come out and we can forget about the Cingular update once and for all (really just a question of how many times I have to flash the ROM on my device).

I am in the minority of folks who is going to try to install goodlink onto this new ROM [since I use it for my work email] ... any predictions whether or not it will be successful?

Hi,

I asked at HTC about WM6 release for TyTn and it is the response:

Thank you for contacting HTC Europe regarding a query about ROM update.

We are currently awaiting an official response from our Head Office on the matter of ROM updates from Windows Mobile 5.0 to Windows Mobile 6.0. We hope to have an answer for you soon.? Please contact us again in a few weeks and we may be able to give you an update.

Thank you for your enquiry, Should you have any other problem, please do not hesitate to call us. Your Local number can be found at http://www.europe.htc.com/support/cs_by_phone.html

I'll drink to that... Even without this ROM being released I've learned loads - I can now unlock and flash my phone, make my own extended Rom, hack the registry with impunity (ish  ) but most of all, the anticipation is so much I've even learned how to read the F*$!??ng Wiki :-)

Keep up the good work and when the ROM comes I'll be in the queue to download - if it doesn't come, maybe I'll try to learn enough to cook my own...

S#it, that hurt. I laughed so hard I lost my balance and fell out of my chair :D

Welcome to the World Wide Wiki!!!

Believe it or not this is my first Cooked Rom! I could have continued to use it as I got my hands on it but I decided to see if I can get enough out of it to share with the community that has done so much for me as I progressed from a Blue Angel through a Wizard and now to my Hermes. I've done small things in the past (Radio Rom only updaters for the Wizard, Comm Button Vibrate Fix for Hermes) but this has given me a chance to really give back to the community.

Everything I know I learned from the Wiki. Tonight I will write-up a how to and include links to every tool I use as well as posting sample script files.

I'm in the process of designing a GUI to drive the tools but that will take more time away from testing and tweaking this Rom.

I'll be honest, I don't care if everyone likes the applications I chose or whatever. I'm trying to be considerate of the larger group.

I'm going to write-up the how to (wow my first Wiki) and such because I honestly believe the old addage "Give a man a fish and you feed him today, teach him to fish and you've fed him for the rest of his life".

That my effort has inspired someone else to venture down the path of knowledge is the greatest repayment for me.

I'll drink to that... Even without this ROM being released I've learned loads - I can now unlock and flash my phone, make my own extended Rom, hack the registry with impunity (ish  ) but most of all, the anticipation is so much I've even learned how to read the F*$!??ng Wiki :-)

I must agree with mitch345, why release the news so long before the actual drop? I'll hope that nothing happens to it so it will be released soon. For me this is exactly the reason why the news SHOULD be released early... there are lots of 'members' and 'senior members' out there who have seen and done it all before, but for me as a 'junior member' noob this thread has been great. If the rom had just suddenly appeared I'd have just flashed it and learned nothing - but as from my last post, the snippets I've picked up have got me investigating and experimenting. My only concern is that the longer this goes on, the more chance microshaft have of doing something about it...

Understand that I can not release this Rom without the approval of my source, they need to protect their livelihood. The second I'm given the go ahead, the floodgate with open but until then I simply can't unless I want to burn a good source who put a lot of trust in me.

My primary goal is to get an uncluttered Rom that is useful from the start, think Faria-lite..

If everyone is good and doesn't keep me from getting this done, I will release the scripts that I am using to build & rebuild this rom easily so that each of you can confidently do exactly as I am. I can release the scripts maybe this weekend regardless of the status of the Rom because they are independent of the Rom you are cooking.

Can you give me the scripts to start building & rebuilding of my ROM?

I'm thinking... adding a little bit of his own DNA in the recipe?

I, like many, have been following this thread closely. I know they must have at least read the first post on the thread and can see that kyphur said to be patient. So, BE PATIENT, PLEASE! Be adults about this.

Maybe it's a a medical problem for some, like ADHD or something. Either way this is being supplied to everyone for free. Other than the chef, no one has anything invested in this, so don't act like you do or that you have some right to pester and bother poor kyphur.

Hi Kyphur,

Can you please lock this thread until you have official permission to release the ROM.

This thread is now becoming polluted with nonsense and it is quite difficult to sft through all the jargon posted by people who are inconsiderate and impatient.

I, and many others are worried that the plug might be pulled on this project due to the constant nagging.

What we need in this thread right now is a modmin with lots of free time to just start deleting all the posts made by people who are too lazy to read the thread, or even the first freaking post. "What OS" - are you kidding?! This is the XDA-developers forum! If you're so stupid/lazy that you need to ask, of all things, what OS the ROM will have, you don't deserve to be registered here in the first place!! You're the kind of person that caused our FTP problem!

That was not directed at any specific person, just the generic idiot out there. Normally I'm not so mean, but I just had to vent.

kyphur, let me be the XXXXth person to say that you're doing an awesome job and that the vast majority of us here understand completely that looking for and modifying all the possible identifying information in a ROM is a huge, time-sucking, and often extremely tedious job. We wholeheartedly thank you for doing such a thing for free and still putting up with the loudmouths around here.

A quick and dirty solution is obviously locking, but I don't think it's a good one. kyphur has used the thread for suggestions, and sometimes we get valid questions/info posted on here. IMO, a better solution, if you have more than a *little* free time, is to monitor the thread and just keep deleting the stupid posts. But again, I think that requires more than a little free time...

@ KYPHUR

I did something for the today screen. See if you think it is something you'd like to use. If you want the PSD for it, let me know and I will attach it or send it via email.

I used my WIZARD with WM6 to take this screenshot.

im going to lock it for now, and do some clean up through out the night tonight while i flash this and see what else needs work, etc..

Also, us mods are immune to locks, which means that if kyphur or any mod has an update with this then we can still post it here while its locked ;)
