For some reason my 8525 does not work with any rom with AKU 3.3, when I try to enter the comm manager it gives me that wait sign, and when it goes away nothing happens. Also the phone always says no service, and it does not even recognize when I don't have a sim card in. But the biggest problem is when I downgraded back to my old rom my Wlan does not work. No matter how i try and turn it on it does not start. If I try to start it in comm manager, i get that wait sign, and when it goes away the wlan is still off, the keyboard shortcut doesnt work either. I have reflashed the phone many times, and that hasnt fixed the wlan problem. BTW i flash from an sd micro card because I have windows vista and the regular upgrade method doesnt work on it.
Is there anybody that could please help me, it is out of warranty because I bought it on ebay, and I don't have the money to go about buying another one or repairing it (do they even repair pocket pcs these days?)

I toook the battery out and smelled the inside of the 8525, I think it smelled kinda funny, is it possible for the wlan chip to burn out?

The first thing you need to do is flash to original ROM using XP and a USB cable.

Just asking, but would that be any different from getting the .nbh file from the original rom and flashing from SD, or does something different happen that could be causing my problem?

So just out of curiosity, what made you smell your Hermes? Because I tend to smell things, and I wondered if it was just the urge to smell it, or if you anticipated the burning-electronics smell...

I wouldnt trust flashing in two ways:
1. Retractable usb cable
2. SD card
You never know what can go wrong. Use XP and a REAL USB cable. If you still have a problem, very possibly you still will, but at least we can mark that off the list.

would using Virtual PC to run an image of XP on Vista be adequate?

hypothetically, If I flashed to the original rom using XP and the wlan still didn't work what would I do next? Also i just realized that my pda is hotter than normal, and sometimes when i plyg it in the amber light blinks instead of being solid.

LOL. I hope you have a warranty.
I dont know, if your WLAN wont even power on after a SUCCESSFUL flash of a confirmed good ROM (the original ROM) then you sound screwed to me.

That's not good, I don't have a warranty.
Well anyone have any info about the AKU 3.3 and phone module problem? I think it might have something to do with the radio

@cjchriscj
I think you already know you have an issue. Base on this thread and your responses, it sounds like you have a feeling things are not right. Most of the time when you feel that way, you are usually correct.

Maybe but the WLAN is not a Radio ROM issue.

yea, I kinda assumed that, but my 8525 has many problems, I posted about another problem that I have where I can't use the onboard microphone for voice calls, only note recording, and the wired headset's mic doesnt work either. The only way that I can use my 8525 as a phone is with a bluetooth headset which I fortunatley have. But, I'm over that problem. I need help with the AKU 3.3 roms messing up the phone radio

you need to go back the shipped original ROM since we know that ROM works. AKU 3.3 is TEST so it is not good to use it as a hardware diagnostic tool.

Is there any sort of diagnostic tool for the hermes? I remember when i had my Ipaq Hx2415 it had a self diagnostic tool that would check all the functions (wifi, bluetooth, sound, touchscreen, buttons, etc). It would be great to see if something is really wrong with my wifi

OK now i think that the wifi is running but the pda doesnt know it. The battery is draining faster than normal and also it runs very hot. I put it to charge and when i came back it was blinkin amber and almost dead (yes, it was plugged in)

could a kind admin change the name of this thread to "Broken Wlan" please? I think this is causing my 8525's battery to die so quicklkly

Try no battery run of AC power only, what happens? Maybe your battery if fried.
Have you flashed to the original ROM yet?

The battery has to be in for the pda to power up, even on AC Power. If the battery is out then the LED that indicates the charging status turns red
And I don't remember what rom it was when I got it in November, but I flashed it to back the rom that I had been using since January that worked perfectly (If I didn't flash to that AKU 3.3 I wouldn't be in this mess most likely)

Honestly, I think you just got a bad deal thru ebay! If I read correctly, the phone was shipped to you with problems already on it!

I hope not, it had been working great for the first three months

Is there anyway to remove the WLAN chip from the board? because I believe that it is draining power from the 8525. With no radios on, no programs running, and not plugged in, the 8525 runs hot, and loses battery as if the wifi was on

Where can I find a picture of where the WLAN chip is located?
