Hi Guys,

This is probably a stupid question but here goes anyway....

Is there any cost to me for using Tom Tom via GPS with my Trinity?

I have not used a satnav enabled device before so I would like to be aware of any charges. I have my Trinity on a Pay As You Go simcard because it is my second phone. I have noticed that my balance seems to have almost dissapeared after installing Tom Tom and Google Maps.
Also, when I start the Tom Tom software I notice that the Bluetooth flashing led flashes, is this denoting that I am connecting to the internet via Bluetooth or is that just a load of bollocks?

So if I use my Trinity just as a GPS device with Tom Tom will it cost me anything?

Cheers!!

Ehh.. yeah... it is a stupid question... but never mind we all have those:

If you are citizen of the USA you already paid the costs of the satellites with you taxes, if you are not, its for free (well the Battery of you Trinity will loose some Energy and TomTom is quite a expensive piece of software, but that wasnt your question, right?)

The satellites send signals, they dont "know" that you receive them, nobody can or wants to send you a bill... it free... isn't that great?

The only cost I can see is that you probably downloaded the Google maps through GPRS and that might not be free. In Sweden it's really expensive.

GPS is free, Google maps is not! When you access Google maps you are using the internet to download maps causing a huge data download bill. Get a standalone software like TomTom and you won't incur any data charges.

The only possible cost is if you use the Tomtom Traffic option, this would typically cost £5 per month for the GPRS data usage.

Thanks for your replies,

I know now that it was a stupid question, but one that I wanted the answer on and didn't know.
Is there a satnav program like Tom Tom that gives you the satellite picture view like Google maps and not just the map view that Tom Tom does?

Probably another stupid question but what the hell......
