Well good news
i dont know how i did it .. but its working anyways

i upgraded my universal to "Jwrightmcps" wm6 and i was so happy with it. but then i was dying to watch TV on my mobile so i wanted to downgrade to the original WM5 (i got it from Imate official site)
but also no luck. it stuck in the middle of upgrading the Radio when i tried to restart it. it showed me error and took like ages to load saying NO GSM

then i played with the files from here and there and tried to reload any Windows mobile OS just to get my universal working. and guess what..

Its now WM6 with 3G
YES 3G
it shows on the operator name "UMTS Etisalat" and on the top bar it shows 3G instead of G.

so i believe its something needs to be played around with the new OS a bit more attention i believe.

now i have
RADIO 1.13
ExtRom 2.01.08
ROM 2.01.08

My current mobile provider have upgrade my sim card to 3G video call unlimited !!!
But after i upgraded my dopod900 to latest wm6.0, cant find the video call in it !!! wah............ cant try out the video call !!!

my two cents bout the problem...

if my memory doesn't fail me the even in wm5 it was only when you installed the providers phone pad (o2,tmob,vodaphone) did you get video call button...

anyhow...checkek the registery....for the video call there are references to a missing VT key.exe in /windows but prob you already knew that

Cab installed fine.. Installed on purpose to a "dirty rom"

Deactivated 3g, just to see what it did!
Fired up the new dialer after restarting, and the funky Video call button is showing..

Tried making a video call, and it informed me the 3g network was not available, and asked me if i wanted to make a normal voice call...

Activated 3g.. and repeated.. Outgoing was fine.. Audio Quality was good... Speed of video was OK...

Just waiting for someone to actually have some time to phone me back now! LOL

So the first incoming call from Vodafone was crap! (By crap i mean juddery video, audio breaking, dropped the call after about 30 seconds...) However.. that was due to the very strange coverage i have here with 3G... Gonna have to wait until later today when I am in the town!

As to the request for a screen shot... i honestly have no way to make a screenshot whilst in a video call.. however.. I will photgraph / video the screen later on!

On i-Mate Jasjar isn't working either on rom v.08 but i'm using radio v.13, I'll try to hard reset it and maybe upgrade rom to v.14

Works fine on mine! And I installed on a dirty rom... (for those of you who dont know what that means, there are loads of apps / tweaks installed...)

I do have the "old" skin for the phone, however that is just cosmetic for the mo!

The cab file only works partially. I can make video call but I can't receive. I didn't install J's Extended ROM. I thought it's a empty one, isn't it?

I didn't install any software. And I eventually install the unedited ROM (for chinese reading purpose previously). But no luck stilll....

Anyway, I am using 1.13 Radio and 2.01.08 ROM.

Also, I installed the CB Dialer.cab to get a better looking dial pad....there is a minor error on the backspace arrow and of course the previous problems still existed....

Installed the CAB and had to soft reset.

The Windows Mobile 5.0 dialer skin was there and there also was a Video Call button on screen. The hardware button for videocalling is still disabled and doesn't do a thing.

Overall: the entire on screen Video Call button doesn't do a thing as well!
You can see it being "pressed" but nothing happens. The normal on screen "Talk" button for conventional voice calls doesn't do anything as well!!

So it may be true that the CAB won't help on a Qtek 9000, like someone else mentioned before (see my specs in my signature), or will Jwright's CAB only work with Jwright's ROM's?

I've done more experiences with the cab provided here are some reports.

I've 2.01.08 Jwrightmcps ROM

1. With the original radio v1.13 i've installed it and the first couple times it didn't worked at all.

2. After some reinstalls of cab file, it manage to make a call, now it happen a strange thing: when I pressed the Video button the screen shown the Incoming Call message (with buttons [Accept][Ignore]), remember it was I that was making the Video Call, when I pressed Ignore the phone frozen. When I pressed Accept after a long time my phone camera appeared, but then the phone frozen again.

3. I've decided to upgrade the Radio to v1.14.10. At first Video buttons to make the video call didn't work (Keyboard and Phone Pad). Then made a 2 or 3 soft resets and it manage to work (the buttons of course), that strange thing that happened with Radio v1.13, means the bubble message of incoming call (when I was making a call) appeared again.

4. In both versions, when I receveid a Video Call on the phone who's calling it gives a normal calling sign, on the jasjar it doesn't happen anything, but if I go to the Phone pad, it shows that I'm receiving a call. I can't answer the only active button is [End] the Video button is inactive.

well I can keep going to the tests but I think it will not improve much more.

Besides all this fustranting tests, I've to say thanks to Jwrightmcps keep the good work I think it is very very close to final solution.

I'd like the other users that made sucefull tests to it, provided their feedbacks here.

I've got the WM5 skin, and it all seems to work, but I can't seem to get the 3g connection, only pop's up very infrequently even though I'm running around London, where I thought there was a load of 3g signal? Maybe I'm wrong.

Can't really test conclusively until i return homeward. Apologies. Will post findings when I'm back in a week or so.

Well I don't know if it is it, because with the application installed it takes very much time to connect to 3G, without it installed, it connects almost instantly.

Can you please make this test: try to disable the phone from the comm manager and activate it again and see if takes less time to connect?

That's the thing, I very rarely get a 3g signal. I had it once since I've been up here, and then it went. GPRS signal is great.

Just a quick feedback...

Incoming is touch and go, as to when it wants to work..

Had to deinstall, because Flight mode stopped working..
Actually.. thats not quite accurate.. I could switch the phone off, but not on again!
Had to soft reset to reactivate the phone!

Will clean off the rom, and test switching the phone off and then on, and then reinstall the patch to see if it is affected..

Cant do that until the weekend though!

So supposing the official roms coming with new devices launched have video call then we too should be having this application right!

Think the only reason we don't have video call within this ROM we're all using is cos it's still a beta release... remember, the VOIP plugin doesn't work either. I think the developers have had to do quite a lot of their own touch up's to 'complete' the OS.

I'm sure the final release (when we get our hands on it) will have full video calling capabilities, but by then, reckon our dev's will have it sorted anyway ;)

Without wishing to preach, bear in mind that all these WM6 ROMs come from the same (or similar) early WM6 betas - none of them is a final or official WM6 release (hence the difficulties with MS and the FTP). The devs are spending a lot of work doing MS's job for them so the rest of us can enjoy the fruits.....

Pick a thread from a rom developer, download it and follow the instructions; yes you can upgrade :)

Tip though, search before asking questions as most have already been asked and solved :)

I read a bit on other devices and models running the WM6.
Howcome other models having wm6 are able to use video call
and in universal we dont.
Or I may be wrong.:)

I believe there's no full working version yet!
It was a beta version with many problems, but there isn’t even one allowing making video calls and receiving them…

The hardware is completely different I would say. There might be a way to get video calling working based on the Hermes, but I have no idea.

It might be possible. But why would you want to disable it?

Or maybe your thinking that WM6 disabled the front camera? No, it didn't. it just doesn't have the video call function, but the front camera works fine (as it works in the Camera App).

Laurentius and I have not given up on Video call for WM6.
We have been very busy with the new Rom releases, but Development is still ongoing for Video Call and will eventually be a reality.

I was just wondering what exactly is the problem with getting video calling to work on WM6 and a Uni?

How is it that there is video calling on WM5 for uni's but not on WM6?
Or video calling on other HTC devices and WM6 but again not on the Uni.

I'm not having a go at all the wonderful ROM developers here because they do fantastic work, I'm just curious as to why this particular feature is so difficult to implement on a Uni with WM6.

Is it a hardware issue or am I missing something totally?

I tried some of the roms wm6 and are fantastic, very fast.
But I can not waive the video calls, so I have no other choice but to return to wm5.
I would like to be able to enjoy much of the video call without having to forego wm6.
