WMDC icon
Installation:
1 - install the attached cab file: "_light" means it only has the full color versions of the icon, low-colour icons have been removed to save space;
2 - remove the pocket pc driver: connect the pocket pc to the computer, right click 'Computer' on the start menu, select Manage, select Device Manager and expand Portable Devices category, right click PocketPC and select Uninstall;
3 - disconnect and reconnect the device to the computer for Vista to reinstall the driver and copy the icon from the Pocket PC
And you're done!
If the old icon is still displayed, reboot.

Nice to see some people liked this.
I was having an issue with the Vista cache the other day, a test icon I made was a little bit reluctant about leaving the icon cache, so that I had a mixed icon(icon1@32px icon2@128px icon1@256px).
The only way to completely rebuild the Vista icon cache is to change the DPI, reboot, change them back to the original value and reboot again.

I am glad everyone is benefiting from it. If you are looking for more icons, there are 25 different icons in the original thread.
Glad the information was helpful.

Hey there!
Does this thing work with WM6? I had some troubles with another device using WM6, sync.ico was read only and hidden so could not have been overwritten. Can anyone confirm this works on WM6?

It does work on WM6. You can always overwrite files in ROM, a new 'temporary'(will stay there until hard-reset/deletion) file can be created and it'll be seen as the only one on the device, you may have to use resco explorer or copy via activesync for that tho. And have you followed those steps enumerated on the 1st post? especially the second one.

Please help. I have tried everything with no success. I have tried uninstalling, rebooting.
I have Windows Vista x64 and WM6. Somehow windows Vista has a cache of the generic icon somewhere. Where can I delete it? (I have tried the uninstallation of the usb device). :confused:
