Hey guys need some feedback before I hurt myself :(

I bought a Cingular 8125 with 2.25 on it, I want to upgrade to 2.26 so I can try faria's 3.3

Now, The phone was bought off Ebay and im using a Fido (Canadian Service provider) Sim Card on it and I can make calls perfectly (Theres Cingular Branding on it still too), This must mean the phone is fully unlocked RIGHT?!?!

I was thinking instead of going the scary route of DOS screens and 1.x buttons Roms , Can I just just Skip to the T-Mobile 2.26 Updater ?

I havent done anything so for all I know the first time I run it will probably tell me bugger off :)

need feedback asap as I want to do it right now

need feedback asap as I want to do it right nowThe FIRST thing you need to do ASAP is to figure out if you have a G3 or G4. Then read. When you're done reading, read some more. Unless you want a $400 brick, your choice.

btw, yes you need to unlock if you want to flash an unofficial ROM.

Well I didnt say 2.25.0000000000000

So obviously its a G3

anyways,

Ive already done my reading, Im asking in my case specifically , can I just run the T-Mobile 2.26 Update program on my Cingular G3 2.25 Wizard Because I have reason to belive it is already unlocked as I am using a FIDO Sim on it and it works prefectly

please reply asap as my curiousity always wins out first and I'm about to do it anyways

That means that your SIM unlocked, not necessarily CID unlocked.

Go ahead and upgrade to the 2.26, then to the WM6 or whatever. And if it doesn't work all you've done is waste yours and my time.

When in doubt, unlock. If you're that concerned about unlocking then you should stick to official ROM's

How do you check the locks on the phone? (especially CID)

Service Code?

thanks for your time :)

How do you check the locks on the phone? (especially CID, though I would assume my CID is unlocked as I am using a SIM from a different provider)

Service Code?

thanks for your time :)You have not read enough my friend. Last chance from me.

There are TWO things to unlock.... SIM is so you can change SIM's... CID is so you can change ROM's. To my knowledge there's no way to determine if your unlocked. It would appear your SIM is unlocked. I don't know if your CID is unlocked. I DO know however that I could have downgraded to 1.05, unlocked completely with lokiwiz, installed 2.26 and then WM6 in the amount of time I've wasted here.

<poof>

Actually, you got off MUCH easier than some with your first post here without reading the information first. A LOT of the forum's members would have dragged you through the coals before they hog-tied you for not reading and searching for the answers first.

Dr. P was kind enough to give you some direction. Others -- including myself -- chose NOT to respond to yet another "noob" post where there's obviously not been NEAR enough effort put forth to find the solution FIRST.

We're all willing to help around here -- AFTER you've exhausted all other resources. That includes reading the stickys dealing with unlocking and upgrading and reading the WiKi. Between the stickys and the Wiki, there's no reason to post the question you posted. Yes -- some of the threads are long, but to know exactly what you're doing and what you'll encounter by NOT following the instructions, they need to be read -- each and every post.

Live and learn, my friend. I've always said there's a reason God gave us TWO eyes, TWO ears and ONE mouth -- it's to spend twice as much time looking and listening as we do talking and asking.
