Hi, thanks for this rom.
i want to cook this rom, and i did this:
E:\ROM\WM6>java -jar aChef.jar -1 06_OS.nb
aChef Version 0.2.1
===================
By ahlok_hk
===================
Generate IMGFS...
..................
done!
E:\ROM\WM6>delfile.exe default.hv
Error! Cannot map file.
E:\ROM\WM6>addfile.exe sunglobe.ttf
Unable to map file!
i have successfully cooked the HTC 2.05 WWE test , but in this rom, i can't go ahead.

Any idea if E (for "Edge") works in this ROM?
I installed the rom on to a Vodafone branded Hermes and use it with Tmobile here in Calli..I have the E logo and the U logo. Everything seems to be faster compared to WM5.

flashed, work fine, somebody said, that they doesnt have ext rom... but I have it. see attached pics. also if I installing soft, I can choose where to install... I flashed this rom 5 minutes ago, so it is empty, I going to install some other stuff and check, if everything work correctly. what I really need is some remote application, like was terminal services client. ou, and standard customization doesnt run after hard reset as in old roms = good for me.

After having a play around, I began installing Orange UK extended rom, after installing MT_PC_Hermes_Orange_REG_060612.cab, I Lost the Dialer skin, but it appears that I have partial working video call after pressing the video call button, unfortantly I can't test I know no-one else with video calling, I hate my technological inferior friends.. Or I'm I just thinking far to positive? Perhaps some one who is technically superior then me can answer me.

If you download it as is and run the updater, then if you read what it tells you, it'll explain that it'll happily flash your PDA straight from OOB (out-of-box) and also, no, WM6 won't do anything for your signal strength, that's down to the Radio ROM... I'm still amazed by the placebo effect of updating the OS somehow managing to influence the rest of the phone.
Olipro, thank you for helping. Sorry for the delayed thanks. I appreciate it.
Going back to my sort of question regarding UMTS, if I update the Radio, is it possible that I will have UMTS coverage inside my house since I have it all around the outside of the house?
Or is it a Cingular issue why UMTS doesn't reach inside the house?
Tthanks again.

Yes. In fact I've installed the Extended Cab file from the HTC Tytn variant (MT_PC_Hermes_Qtek_WWE_060621.cab) and I've now got my video calling working again inside WM6. Does seem to behaviour slightly weird though. If I call my Videomail on the Three network, it responds as if I'm receiving an incoming call - after that it seems to work just fine.

I have been using this ROM on my 8525 for the past few days and here are the issues I have found so far:
1. Keyboard does not light up at all anymore (regardless of the keyboard backlight sensor setting).
2. Cannot turn off word completion even if I uncheck it in settings.
3. Have it set to check my pop email every 15 min and sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't.
4. Had to soft reset once because it would not connect to the web even though it said gprs was connected.
If anyone know any fixes for the above items please let me know.
Thanks,
Richard

Keyboard backlight works fine on my device (CHT9000 aka HERMES200).
Confirm spell-check cannot be turned off.
I have had freeze-ups while using Wisbar Lite (unfortunately!)
PS: PocketPlayer 3.01 finally installed -- works via activesync install, but not from CAB install... thanks to conduit's great support for resolution.
Unfortunately -- A2DP still pops every now and then with JointStereo set to 0 and BitPool set to 48 (popped 1x during 3-minute song) in rest mode, pops everytime if doing a screen rewrite with PocketBreeze... will fool around with various settings but maybe should wait for next ROM iteration.

How do I install this?? Is there any guido for this??

I also concur that keybd backlight works fine on my device, only differently. It doesn't light up permanently any longer when plugged to power source - behaves in the same manner as without power cord. Once under poor lighting conditions, it flashes up OK.

[QUOTE=wpbear;1149058]Does it really get deactivted with every SOFT reset. That doesnt make sense since if it runs normally once from the PreConfig and never agian and still sticks throughout many soft resets, then why if you run it manually does it stop on soft reset and require the run th .lnk agin?
EDIT: It does disable with every reset....might be dealbreaker. Doesnt make sense though seeing it sticks when run in the Preconfig.
I remember reading about a fix that has worked for previous ROMS, maybe worth trying out... Edit the link SetHSDPA.lnk to include the /Enable parameter and copy the modified .lnk into startup folder.

I posted the registry changes somewhere on another thread. You can change the hardware keyboard layout by changing 3 parameters in the registry.
Still looking for a registry tweak for the software keyboard...

Hello,
I recently flashed my Cingular 8525 (TyTn) using the WM6 Vanilla ROM. Everything seems to work well so far, except that I have not been able to reinstall Acrobat Reader. I have tried running the .exe from my desktop and then syncing and I have also tried to run the .cab directly from the device. Any suggestions?
Thanks,

What error are you getting?
I chose to install pocketxpdf which works better than the adobe client and uses less space (adobe = 8MBs vs pocketxpdf = 1.2MBs).

UPDATE: For those that want to upgrade to WM6 and need to run GoodLink YOU MUST FIRST DO A GoodLink Backup from the Good Options on WM5!!, do it on the memory card and after you upgrade to WM6 you will find a file on the root of the card to restore GoodLink, what i do is connect to my wifi at home first then i do the update and IT WORKS I now have WM6 and GoodLink Good Mobile Messaging v4.9.2.30_EN on my 8525 :D

Hello,
I just flashed my 2 week old Cingular 8525 with the Crossbow Vanilla ROM, just about everything seems to work fine, with the exception of no data service. When I initially turned it on, it said I was on 3G, which I know I'm not, and then dropped down to EDGE. But then I get that warning "Cannot connect with current connection settings...". I've been able to make calls, access voicemail, etc. Were there some settings I should have recorded before flashing it? I know when I first got it, it was taking more than 2 days for it to pick up my data service (store said it could take 24hours). Then I did a soft reset, and it picked it up. So I figured that might be the issue, but I've reset it half a dozen times, but still nothing.
Thanks in advance,
Brian

The Iqua and Plantronics both appear to be A2DP bluetooth headsets according to their respective websites? So if these are working, other headsets with the A2DP BT profile should work. For newbies, A2DP is required for streaming stereo sound. The AVRCP BT profile allows remote control of the headset.
Again, I'm assuming these profiles work on Hermes with WM6.

it works, but the sound quality is horrible! Standard is Mono, when setting to stereo the sound gets even worse!
Install the widcomm drivers and you have good stereosound with AVRCP also working. These drivers work even better on WM6 then they did on WM5.

Has anyone found any issue with this software and the new rom as on my hermes when i try and remove the battery and comms manager from the today screen the phone wont boot up after a soft reset.
It also happens if I try the manual tweak to change the registry to remove the icons with resco reg editor.
Is this happening to anyone else and have you found a fix for it??

Maybe I'm an idiot, but I -have- been through the thread, looking, and have read about some issues with wireless...
Is everyone having this problem? My wireless appears to be non-existant, and I hit it up in the comm manager, it tries to activate, then completes without activating.. That, and I now appear to be on the 3G network, as opposed to the new (telstra AU) nextG, being 3G on 850mhz... What's that about? Was having problems with radio before, but poking it seemed to make it work alright..
Great image, anyway... it's made my JasJam so much better, and stable...

I found the GSM/UMTS radio works correctly only after apply the HSDPA patch (see post#2 of XDA Live thread). After apply soft-reset and it'll be fine.
To show band display in the toolbar, I made a registry edit described in the HERMES Wiki under registry tweaks -- adding "enableHSDPAIcon value = 1" to the registry under HKLM\Software\OEM\RIL. Now, it goes from "G" to "3G" to "H" for each of the three different available data connections here in Taiwan.

Hi All,
Flashed Vanilla on my Orange M3100 with Vista and all went perfectly... Really fast ROM! Great work.... thanks to everyone for getting this out.
Had to apply the cab file MT_PC_Hermes_HTC_REG_070112.CAB from the extended HTC TyTN 2.05.255.101 ExtROM and then TyTN Grey skinto get the video calling function back. After some messing I now have all the Office Icons in the programs file and drop down menu.
Only issues I have encountered is I can´t turn off the WIFI from the top title bar drop down, this has to be done from the Comm Manager... Anyone else have this problem??? or a fix???
No issues so far with any add on software...

it did not restore the passwords for my registered programs, but the shortcuts and programs worked fine, I just had to re-register them.

I did have one problem, upon resseting the device, I would get an error "TrayIcon_MannerMode" cannot be opened etc...
After cutting the program from the startup folder all is working fine.
By the way, MUCH RESPECT TO WHOEVER IT WAS THAT FIGURED THIS OUT, so far wm6 is great.

No worry.
1. Activesyncing
2. Explore My Windows Mobile-Based Device > Windows
3. find pword.lnk, ppt.lnk and pxl.lnk. It's written as pword, ppt and pxl respectively but with shortcut errow on the file. If you miss them then find pword.exe, ppt.exe and pxl.exe and make a shortcut for all of them and 'copy'.
4. open \windows\Start menu\programs
5. create a new folder 'Office'
6. 'Copy and paste' all the shortcuts you've just created into this newly made 'Office' folder.
Now you'll have a folder named 'Office' and all the needed links to Pocket Office applications in it.

Vanilla Rom or XDA Live works perfect except installed CESTAR and MSN LIVE together. Whatever using Lesie CESTAR MSN LIVE FIXED version the machine still keep on hanging. (Without login MSN n CESTAR installed, its perfectly stable! so do logged in to MSN LIVE without install CESTAR.)
Is there any way to export the WM5 chinese input method into WM6? If this work, I can just install the chinese fonts and the 'forget region patch' instead of the troublesome CESTAR or no HW keybrd support Monster chinese.

So what are people finding is more stable / responsive? WM6 or WM5 AKU 3x ?
wm6 is definately faster (more responsive)
in regards to stability, in wm5 AKU3.3 i had to reset a few times per week, if not more. in wm6, the resetting has only been limited to when i have to do it after an install, or modified some registry settings.
ive been putting it throught its paces and ive noticed that it eats up a little more RAM as compared to WM5. This is maybe why its more responsive, it keeps more processes running in memory which handles the GUI.
WM5 i had around 27mb free running spb pocket plus, spb diary, phonealaram, plb weather. in wm6, i have around 23mb free after a typical days usage using the same apps. therefore the extra RAM usage is due to the OS.

Tried most messenger chat programs - WLM, Agile, IM+ and Octro.
I did experience lots of freezing and need to sometimes soft-reset when it does not come back. Anyone had this? Quite fraustrating. Worst is WLM.
Mobile messenger on WM5 runs smooth comparitively.
Appreciate if any1 can shed more light on why this happens.
Hope XDA.live 0.2 has a scalled down messenger? ie without all the bells and whistles. WLM too big and heavy!

I'm focusing on the OS, changing languages and localization are not something I want the delve into.
Any replacement keyboard program for WM5 ought to work in WM6, best I can say is try what you're currently using the worst that will happen is you'll lose a few hours of time and maybe have to hard reset.
For OS localization to a different language I'm sure some of the WM5 techniques will work but WM6 has different support for OS Language. Personally I'd either wait until MS releases Language Packs or someone takes an interest and figures this out so we can localize at hard reset.
Got a question - if there's a possibility to add some keyboard layouts to WM6? Or is there any software doing this for Cyrillic languages? Thanx.

Is there a shareware that could replace it?
Will Kifur next OS get this to work? It seems that he say that it will work with USB only.
I will load only the OS.nb from XDA Live .02. I guess this will be inside
Before that It would be usefull to get and OS comparition only of the vanillia OS versus the one included in Kifur new rom.
Thanks

As long as you turn off bluetooth before enabling ICS you should be okay.
Several users have reported getting it working fine that way.

I am about to install this WM6 ROM on my Tytn but what if certain problems arise for me (eg TomTom or another key app which could be an issue)?
Is there a similar "simple" way to return to WM5?
This WM6 upgrade seems simple (from a process perspective) compared to other posts where multiple 'technical' steps were explained to perform an upgrade. So I would appreciate to have a similar 'simple process' to return to WM5 in case I have serious problems.
Thanks,

If I read the .02 thread well the only system file that is changed vs vanilla is the ATI DLL. All the rest are goodies and fixes (not say they are not very important) but I am trying to make up the difference between the core 0.2 OS and the vanilla OS.

I know I am a pain, but what's the hack for displaying properly G/E instead of U
I found the one to display H instead of 3G, but I could not locate the first one.
Please forgive, I read a lot, but could not put my hands on this one.

Think of Vanilla & WMXL as half-siblings...
They both share the same mother (Base Rom)
The difference is the father (who cooked it)
I can't say everything that Vanilla Chef added or removed but I can say they used a very large knife an removed bits and pieces (SetHSPDA.exe for example) that should have been left alone. They also left a lot of junk files in the Rom that have no purpose being there (much of it was Carrier Customization files for things they removed)
For WMXL I chose to use a scalpel to remove (with surgical precision) all traces of the originating carrier and the Customization Junk that was embedded. Even if you have a fully operation Ext_Rom WMXL will never to the Customization Routine after hard reset. (someone is working on a very cool alternative to that which can also help us preserve a lot of our settings/programs between upgrades). I also took the time to replace some links that were missing (such as Office Products).
I have two scripts right now:
Cleans out the Original Base Rom.
Using the Cleaned Rom, builds WMXL.I don't really see this as a competition between vanilla and WMXL (even though some have decided to see it that way).
If you like Vanilla, go for it I'm not offended.
If you like WMXL, welcome to the club there's plenty of room.
BTW, next week I will release WMXC (Windows Mobile XDA Clean) which is the Cleaned Rom I use to make my WMXL build. Simply put it is how I would have done the Vanilla Rom.

I forgot to mention that I do expect the Carrier which the base rom came from to actually release a newer build. This is the primary reason I scripted my builds. When the newer build is avaliable I will be able to apply my scripts with only minor changes instead of reinventing the Rom from scratch. Also If another carrier Rom gets leaked or released, I will be able to apply either process to that Rom again with only minor changes.
Thank you Kyphur, this clarifies it a lot

What some people are forgetting is that the release of Vanilla allowed Kyphur to release his rom - albeit in a form he is not so keen on (as the purist I think he is). But the joint release has also spawned huge amounts of interest, development and participation from everyone which will ultimately benefit all of us.
Leave the guys alone (unless you can do better), stop asking dumb questions and enjoy the forum activity - it's the most vibrant I've seen for a long time

@ach2: I second the welcome!
Very astute observation. Unfortunately, there's more: The "Vanilla ROM" here was actually based on a NDA build.
Consequently, when the ROM was released, all possibilities that the original NDA source remained protected were lost.
Kyphur was in the final stages of removing all these traces himself when this ROM "bombshell" was dropped. Perhaps the source was already compromised and that prompted the release here but who knows for sure.
I myself was somewhat saddened to see this thread, especially when I saw that it had the unmodified build information tagging it listed right in the first post....

2. I understand there is an issue with 3G and video calling - how do you get around this? Can you provide the link to the fix?
3. Are all the above apps compatible?
4. Is there a guide on how to uninstall and revert back to WM5?
5. Will this SIM Lock my phone again?
6. Does Active Sync 4.5 work ok with Windows XP or is this Vista based?
7. Are there any other fundamental issues that will take away a lot of the functionality that I currently have?
I appreciate there are quite a few questions here but really appreciate any help.

Hi,
please i hope, you can help me.
I am using a TyTN with the Vanilla Rom. My question is, can i use the WMXL BlackBerry Cab for the Vanilla Version?
Because i have many problems to use the BBC from Vodafone.
I the morning i have found, that Vodafone offered an update of this Client to Version 2.1.1.2.54. I have installed this. The BB going on to connect and load down the mails. Hurra. But then, after some hours, when i want to use the client again, i get a connection only for one second and then it was disconnected. now before i get more grey hairs....my question.
Thank you very much.

I cant understand why any1 wants to go back to WM5 after running WM6 for a while?? Nothing in WM5 is better than WM6. Everything is faster in WM6, BT works as it should in WM6 For me wlan works faster. No hanging ever with WM6. So I cant understand why you guys want to go back to WM5. The only thing that is left right now is to get WM6 to trinity then the happiness would be complete..

When I press Green (call button) I get taken to a dial pad where I can enter the name or number of the person to call (same as WM5) but with WM6 a lot of the top of the screen is filled with "UTMS Orange".
Is there a way to get rid of this as I don't really see the point with it?

Do you have cab files to perform a lot of these changes/improvements over and above the vanilla build. The reason I ask I have just finished flashing my hermes with the vanilla one and have got everything installed after about 3 hours and don't really want to have to go through this again....

I tried the following steps
(hermes & breeze seems to have the same ROM size):
1.) nbhextract
2.) mtty the os.nb
3.) flashed successfully
4.) breeze doesn't start anymore
5.) reflashed an extracted breeze os.nb to get the device back
If I would have same os.nb (wm5) of both device I could make an hex compare checking how much differences are between this both os roms.
What do you think?

It has been cooked using halok_hk's aChief and uses Olipro's Modified RUU Updater with Des's SSPL for easy flashing: just connect your hermes through activesync and start the ROM upgrade!
This ROM has nothing to do with xda-developers, it has been cooked by the community for the community and is hosted outside xda-developers. Please mirror the rom as much as you can and feel free use it as base rom for future cookings!
We don't take any responsibility for any damage caused by this rom, it has been tested before publishing and it works ok.

Legolas The Elf has a solution for dissapearing SD card you can find it here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294324). And as always USE SEARCH BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS and/or CREATING NEW POSTS/THREADS. It will save you from being flamed.

The phone is new - card also ( i bought them month ago). The system doesn`t react on this slot. Another opinion or help be appreciated! Thanks

Strange... I have (Japan made) Kingston too, never had any problem with it. Try to format the Micro SD in your PC. Filesystem is FAT. Backup any data from it beforehand. Maybe that would help.

First... I promise I read... and searched... and after 4 hours, I'm more confused.
I have the ATT 8525. Upgraded it with the ATT WM6 ROM... I like new features and endless apps, but at the end of the day... I'm so swamped with living that I can't begin to keep up with all the options the super genius developers come up with... so... stability has to be more important than trying 5 cooked ROMS...
Questions... Will my standard WM6 support greater than 2gb in the microSD slot...?
Next.. I just lost everything in my phone. I wasn't adding anything, it just popped up a message about a problem, I cleared the problem, powered off, and it came up factory fresh with nothing but the WM6 OS. I have the data from "My Documents"... but all the APPS are gone and I'll need to rebuild them. Two part question... (again I did search for this).. Why doesn't Activesync offer me a backup option to backup everything (like it does on my older PDA) and, if Activesync isn't the total backup and restore solution... What do you suggest..? I need to be able to recover without 10 hours of installing CAB files again. And, since I'm putting most of the new applications I add in the SD card... will the backup software snapshot everything...? Doesn't do much good to have the registry restored, if the application was in the programs directory on the SD card..
And Finally... Does anyone have a rosetta stone for the functions/reliabilty of the .CAB files at this link (referenced from posts on xda and found while searching for my other solutions) http://www.4shared.com/dir/7650924/fd89e574/sharing.html
any answers VERY much appreciated.. including links to threads that may directly asnwer my question...
THANKS..!!!!!
