Report Issues Here:
Windows Mobile "XDA Live"
for HTC Hermes

I have applied my XDA Live Scripts to the "Vanilla" edition of Windows Mobile 6 for Hermes.

So I present you with Version 0.10 of XDA Live!

Click here for Images (http://WM6.Kyphur.Org/Today%20Themes.asp) of all the Themes I have collected. I've decided that instead of embedding them all, I will remove all but the default Crossbow Theme and add the Aero Theme.

The rest of the collection will be made available via my website this week.

I have integrated the following Applications:
Dictionary Editor
HTweakC v2.1
MS Hearts for PPC
PHM Registry Editor
SMS Backup
StartClean
VJCandelaLite (Flashlight)
Windows Mobile Remote Display (CERDISP)Fixes Specific to using "Vanilla" Base Rom

Office Mobile Folder and shortcuts are restored

Remote Desktop Mobile has been embeddedI have integrated the following Registry Fixes:
By default only the Date Plugin is enabled (and it is set to a single line).
The Today Screen says "XDA Live" and the about screen shows " - XDA" after the OS Build Number.
Pressing & Holding the Comm Button toggles the between Vibrate & Normal.
PDAViet Memory Leak Fix is Applied.
Disabled the warning for Unsigned Applications (Application Lock)Misc:
I have added two "Classic RingTones, (OldPhone-US.wma and OldPhone-UK.wav) for those of us who want to get away from the music and chirping Ringers.
I have removed all carrier customizations, no need to soft reset to avoid customization!
Please let's keep this thread clean. This will aide in getting things fixed/added as quickly as possible.

If you just want to chatter go to one of the two other threads for this Rom (see the end of the FAQ a few posts down). I will leave only one thread sticky but it will always contain links to all "Official" Thread for the Rom.

Known Issues:

Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) is broken.
Keyboard Backlight Sensor turned off by default.
Turn Off Wi-Fi link is missing from "Connections Bubble".
WiFi enabled on Boot (WiFi Init) is missing. The following are missing:

ClearVue PDF Viewer.
Cyberon Voice Dialer.
Internet Calling (VOIP).
MSN. (Note this is replaced my MS Live! and wil not be grafted into this Rom)
Note Recorder (including ability to press & Hold to record).
Video Call.
Push To Talk.
SetHSDPA.exe
Add 8525 Keyboard Fix Cab into Rom. (you must install it but it will be there for you now)
Smart Dialer.
Microsoft Live! Mobile. (until there is a real release I will consider installing from the desktop as the fix for this, once there is an official release of WLM or A WM6 Rom that includes it this will become embedded)
Windows Mobile Update. The WMXL Team is working hard to get these integrated into the Rom.

Items in GREEN are finished for the next release. I would like to time 0.x dot releases at least 1 week apart so expect WMXL v0.20 on March 5th (2007 of course) which will include all verified fixes as of March 3rd.

Q: How do I install it.
A: The self extracting archive will run the RUU after it extracts all files. I used The XDA RUU which was modified to push the Des Bootloader to your device. This Installer does not require your device to be SuperCID and should work with all bootloader versions. This installer only has a HTC Splash Screen and the OS, No radio or Ext_ROM.

Q: Will WMXL (Windows Mobile XDA Live) fix my corrupted radio bootloader or otherwise bricked Hermes?
A: If the other tools here can't do it then don't bet the farm on WMXL doing it. The Flashing tools are still the same, no magic pill here.

Q: Kyphur you are such a Guru, how can I be like you?
A: Remember that my head is in the clouds on this one only because I'm standing on the shoulders' of giants. This project owes it's very existence to many other contributers here and they deserve as much if not more of the cudos than I do. The is a team effort, please support everyone who made this possible. (See my post here). I have been a member her for only 15 months give or take but I have spent more time reading than doing or posting.

Q: Can you release Cab file updates instead of cooking new Roms to flash?
A: I will do both. For example coming soon with be WMXL Update Cabs for Internet Calling, Video Calling, SetHSDPA and Windows Live! Mobile (for example). These will all be embedded into WMXL v0.2. I'm doing this to save you from having to flash you device as often as I am. Remember the Cab files will consume Program Memory whereas the new Rom releases will not.

Q: If you embed a program into the Rom how can I remove it (to save memory).
A: You can't remove file that are in the Rom. You can remove the Shortcuts to the programs. Again I will repeat that programs in the Rom do not consume any memory. If you don't want the program simply ignore it and it will not harm you.
Q: Will you still release the scripts?
A: Of course, I have spent the evening building and testing this Rom for Release. Expect this to delay the release of the How-To but it is still coming.

Q: Will you still release a version based on the original Rom (from your unnamed source).
A: Sort of. There will be a release either based on the Original Base Rom (Rom-X) or an Official Released Carrier Rom. This is why I used scripts to make the Mods to the Rom file, I had a working Rom on the Vanilla Base 20 minutes after I downloaded it. I spent most of last night making sure it was stable before releasing.

Q: Why do my recent programs keep disappearing on every reset?
A: That is StartClean. If you don't want this then simply delete the shortcut from your Startup Folder.

Q: I have more questions...
A:The Original Discussion Thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294809), The Original Release Thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=295456).

This Rom really is a group effort.
Without pof & team unlocking I never would have even gone looking for the base Rom.
aChef by aklok_hk is doing the heavy lifting.
Sleuth255, ShogunMark, Faria ViJay555, Bepe, Maimach have all been instrumental either directly or indirectly in this project.
Des and the SSPL was another step that got me to this point.
Olipro's RUU Workshop was used to make the installer package.
Of course there are all of the guys who have been doing this before I bought my first PPC Phone, they blazed the trail I simply walk behind them.
Finally, I can't forget my unnamed source. They took a big change passing this along to me. Even though this relase is built on the Vanilla Rom, without that trust I wouldn't have been able to spend that previous week cooking with a WM6 Rom Image. If I missed someone I apologize, just PM me and I'll update the list.

Don't put posts like this here!!!! Use the other two threads for that.

Please only post issues that need to be investigated/fixed here.

Have you unchecked "Enable Advanced Networking" in the USB to PC applet on the Connections Settings Page?

I don't use WM5toage but can check it out tonight.

I can't seem to get wm5torage working on this new rom.

When I reconnect the USB lead after activating the utility, windows recognises the mass storage device but then throws up an error and fails.

Hi all,

Has anyone managed to get this running on the new ROM? Tried v2.1.2.21 and v2.1.2.52, but netiher will sync. Both see network, bbriefly create a tunnel and then disconnect.

Anyone got a similair experience - or better still offer a tip?

Thanks in advance

1. HSPDA executable missing.
2. Keyboard Fix (Cing ShoeString?)
3. Add Voip.cab from Helmi?
These three are on the list (two already addressed for next release)

4. The icon sets of 3G/U/E/G connections for Voice/Data connections. Showing U for Voice and E for Data.
5. Keyboard Backlight Fix

We need to keep an eye on the Connection Icons, only report if you have this problem, please include hardware and carrier.

Please explain the Keyboard Backlight Fix.

Added the Turn WiFi Off issue to the list.

Added WiFiInit on startup to fixes for next release. In the meantime, fin WifiInit.exe in the Windows Folder and make a shortcut to it in the Startup Folder.

I also noticed the lack of "turn off wifi", and sadly another little problem: When the device come out of standby and was previously connected to a wifi acces point it is unable to connect again automatiquely. I can either turn off/on wifi to solve this, or simply manualy go in options and force the connection to the acces point I want.

What is in fact the smartdialing? I have so far the same functionnality with wm2006 I had with wm2005 and smartdialing. I don't see what is missing

Disabling the auto light sensing. This is a real bother where the light does not come up sometimes when you hit a key in the keyboard. I don't know if it is possible to disable it by default.

Under the SMS section of messenging, the left softkey is assigned to Delete, rather than New in WM5. Not sure if this is a WM6 vs WM5 thing as no other WM6 devices to compare to.....

Nope, do we want ClearVue or Adobe?

Is there a pdf reader in this OS? I just noticed that my email attachment didn't have the usual pdf icon.

I tried unchecking the tick box and this allowed the removable drive to install.

Unfortunately, I couldn't browse the directory structure though - it just shows it as blank. I did get a directory listing once but it then froze.

I also tried installing Card Export II but this just hung when I tried to browse the card.

I've noticed that the device locks while sending mail. That is, for a couple seconds during the process, scrolling is disabled and the buttons have no effect on the interface at all. Then, when it wakes back up, all input is executed, including scrolling and button presses. Any ideas?

This is with the default Vanilla ROM, I should mention - I am about to upgrade to XDA Live 0.1 now.

I'm trying out PocketXpdf which is an opensource reader, footprint is much smaller which would leave us more room for other items. But this could become a user preference item really, didn't know if that should have been there or not but I'm fine with installing on my storage card since its not a huge deal.

Where is MSN?

WM6 no longer uses MSN, it uses Windows Live but this has not yet been included in the ROM. They are working on it, keep watching Kyphurs 1st post and when its ready it will be there.

Kyphur, I really like this PocketXpdf program, it renders better than adobe and takes about 1.2 Megs. Its a free cab file I found a link from brighthand. Its working great on wm6 so if you would like to include it I've attached the file.

Hi, thanks for the excellent release. I've got Video calling working (tested both ends) using the following cab files from a previous extended rom and the following ZombieNexus skin.

Install the ZombieNexus skin last, you also get speed dialling as part of the set.

But I don't know what else the extended rom cabs are doing, so hope this helps you.

Hi Kyphur,

Just thank you, I'm not having any problems with this ROM.

A suggestion - I see you like VJ555's candela flashlight util. The other one from VJ that all of use who use the HERMES in sunlight find indespensable is VJlumosIII (http://www.vijay555.com/vj/releases/vjlumosiii/vjlumosiii.exe)

yes, no, just go with the flow.

Is the ablity to view HTML email dependent on weather the Exchange server supports it? If it is, is there a setting to turn it on or is it only supported with Exchange 2007?

I was wondering the same thing. HTML mail works on my IMAP accounts, but not on my Exchange account. Hmm...

Sorry I must of missed it when I read thru the pages. I knew it was a registry edit but wasn't sure what key. Thanks for the info. This ROM is crazy fast! I really like it. I noticed that you had to peform a registry edit to get cleartype to show in landscape mode...only problem is that it won't stick so I changed the Registry Type from Hive (1) to File (0) and it sticks. I was wondering why it won't stick by leaving the Registry as Hive type? Also what is the difference between the two...I know its off topic but I never was able to figure it out. Thanks alot.

This Rom does not contain either M$ Voice Command or Cyberon Voice Speed Dial/Voice Commander.

I will not embed either into WMXL as everyone has their preferences including not using either and the only free one is the cheezy Voice Speed Dial.

Voice speed dial is in this ROM, M$ voice command is not, and it may be a while before it is.

I dare you to flash the OS.nb file from Universal (which has DOC Flash Type) onto your Hermes (which has NAND Flash Type). When you create bad NAND Blocks because the nb file is not formatted for NAND Flash I don't want you coming back here complaining:eek:

It's certainly true for the Ext/Radio but I'm not sure about the OS - as long as it's an OS only update I don't understand how could it brick a phone.

You don't have to dare me - I know there are cases it could turn to pretty bad but so far yours is the first meaningful answer - thanks.
OTOH as long as the device boots up we should be able to repair it, shouldn't we?

NOTE: IF YOU INSTALL THE ATTACHED CAB YOU MUST ALSO INSTALL ONE OF THE DIALER SKINS THAT HAS THE VIDEO CALL BUTTON OR YOUR DIALLER WILL NOT DISPLAY RIGHT. SKINS THAT WORK ARE ON THE WIKI. Kyphur is working on a CAB to enable video calling and should have it soon, so only install this is you are really impatient to get video calling but don't expect anything but a "wait for the "official" cab" reply from Kyphur on this.

I installed the attached cab file from the 2.05.255 HTC rom and the E icon now properly shows up when connected to Edge, With the HTC Gray dialer skin from the wiki the Video call button is also now present in the dialer (can't test it as I'm on Cingular in the US). Haven't seen any issues yet with installing these cabs but will let you know if I see anything.

BTW Kyphur you are the man, I've been jonseing for WM6 since I got my Hermes (Had crossbow on my Wizard for a few months now and was really missing the better outlook and other features)

[edit] Quick note, the MT_PC_Hermes_HTC_REG_070112.CAB also seems to enable smart dialing and the keyboard backlight. Also looks like just the P_Generic_UI.CAB may not be what caused any of the changes, looks like all it does is add today items, a default IE page and some favorites.

Okay problems
Wifi does not shut off - we all know about that
Voice commander does not work over bluetooth when I push the button on the ehadset, this worked in the vanilla rom.
**== TCPMP and WMP dont seem to stream video from orb**
TCPmp says that windows media nine audio/video are not supported and
- WMP gets stuck when updating my library, it gets stuck on the adding media process.
- storage card disapears from WMP library.
Phone randomly gets stuck.

Which Voice Dialer are you talking about?

Microsoft Voice Command v1.6 is the product from Microsoft.

Cyberon Voice Speed Dial (usually embedded by OEM or Carrier) this version requires you to record voice tags for each contact and can only dial your phone.

Cyberon Voice Commander is the retail version from Cyberon which has speech recgonition like the M$ product and can do addition things.

Okay problems
Wifi does not shut off - we all know about that
Voice commander does not work over bluetooth when I push the button on the ehadset, this worked in the vanilla rom.

Anyone have any info on GoodLink and WM6?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=295562

When I try to connect to the Goodlink server (corp email) with WM6, it says that my device is not supported at this time.

Do you guys know if Good Link is supported on WM6? If so, is there a special installer somewhere that is not on the Good Link website? If there is not, is there something I can do to make Good Link think it is on a WM5 OS?

Thanks for any help !!!

Does anyone have any more info on this issue?

We are experiencing some issues with WM6 and getting GoodLink on it.

One person was able to get GoogLink to work by doing a restore using a 3rd party app. But new installations of Good do not allow it to be installed because it does not recognize the handheld (OS, i'm sure).

Anyone know if there is a workaround? Registry tweak? Or just wait for a new version of Good to be released by Motorola-Good that supports WM6?

BTW, although its the same issue, were talking about WM6 on the HERMES device.

I have connected to the internet using WiFi, GPRS/UMTS and ActiveSync (I actually turned of the phone radio to verify WiFi & AS).

What cab file are you using to install Cyberon Voice Dial? The operator provided Ext_Rom cabs depend on files that are no longer in the Rom. I will create a Cab file that include ALL files but that is not high on the list of fixes.

BTW, everyone see post #2 for a zip file with 4 fixes to WMXL v0.10...

I am not able to get Cyberon Voice Dial to Install.

Also so far no Internet will work. Wifi connects, and gets IP, no webpage though. Set up GPRS and if I force to connect it connects for a few seconds but still no webpage, and it also disconnects rightaway. My settings match Cingular Web page.

Still can't get internet connection sharing to work. Even after installing the enable HSDPA files. Anyone that has a 8525 on Cingular that has this working could you please chime in?

There a lot of scenarios with unique steps to get connected. For USB connection, here are the basics...

1. Disable PC network connections
2. Disable PC proxy settings
3. Disable USB Activsync/WMDC connections
4. Enable USB internet sharing on device
5. Connect USB cable
6. Start browsing on PC

Once connected you will see that a Microsoft Windows Mobile network connection is enabled and your phone will have assigned it an IP address. Mine has 192.168.0.102.

Attached are some screenshots.

Why you use a beta version of WM06?? one of the final versions cannot be mounted?

They aren't yet available. And we're generally impatient.

Yes, Goodlink is an e-mail client. My connection setting are fine, the issue is with Goodlink. The setup process fails and says that Goodlink does not support this type of device.

Yes, the problem is getting GoodLink installed.

A dirty workaround is to have backed up your apps/data using a 3rd party app before the ROM update and then restore back onto the phone after WM6 has been installed. This seems to put GoodLink back on and emails are pushed to the phone, however, this is not without errors and slow performance.

Until Good releases an updated version of GoodLink that works on WM6, we may be SOL. Even if someone found a way trick GoodLink Setup into thinking that it was being installed in a WM5 environment, I reckon there would be residual problems after it is installed.

1. I experienced this with my SE headset - it needed to be turn off then on and then a msg appeared that it's trying to connect... connect, auth# and voila, it's working - nevertheless TyTn never found it.

2. haven't tested yet but SMS Backup restored all my messages - thanks for the tip, Mod!

IAlso, I still can not figure out how to make push and hold work with Voice Recorder - any thoughts??? (PLEASE!!!)

It's on the list but unless some others want to start chasing down some of these issues then there just needs to be patience.

You have a choice: be an early adopter or wait 2 weeks and don't have to deal with these issues.

I mean seriously, I'm a single father with custody of 2 teenage daughters managing a career as a Senior Software Developer for an Int'l Financial services Company. On top of that I'm flooded with the paperwork required to purchase a house for my family.

Now tell me, am I devoting enough time to this project which has cost me hundreds of man-hours, deprived me of sleep and put me slightly behind schedule at work.

I know exactly why we've lost so many of our best Rom Chefs in the last 6 months and it has nothing to do with Microsoft.

I've been accused of not wanting to share WM6. I've been offered money to go against my promise and share the Rom I was given under strict conditions. I turned on a dime last night and applied my scripts to a base Rom that is not as good quality as the one I was working with because So many expressed they wanted the fruits of my labor. Then Instead of keeping the better based Rom on my own device, I flashed the Vanila Based Rom so I am dealing with everything you are.

Now I ask, what more do you want from me?

A precious few have contacted me with fixes, I appreciate that.

Does it really bother you so much to see "XDA Live" on the today screen? I labeled it to honor this community we love and contribute to. It's not like I put my name there!!

What have I asked for in return? Just a little patience, that's all. I've not even posted a "Donate to my efforts" link (not a knock to other who have, I simply don't need the money that is why I suggested that you contribute to XDA and the others who came before me).

I apologize that I actually took a nap this afternoon when I returned from taking my oldest daughter to the doctor (as a single custodial parent I have to do most if not all of that kind of stuff).

I'm going to be scarce around for a few days (I need the sleep). I will be working these issues as will those who are working with me on them but don't freak out if I don't respond as quickly for a while. I think we'll have PTT, Video Call and Notes Recorder fixed within 48 hours. I won't hold-off getting these fixes to you.

Now everyone please some some respect and patience.

I am still running vanilla

Princeasi, I am getting exactly the same issue with Slingbox. I tried 2 SW versions of the client and they reacted the same. There must be a port in the registries that is not open. I will look into that.

I could not get the Internet sharing to work with BT as it was working with OS 2.06... The PC do not see the PAN profile. Will continue to try...

Can someone post the PDAViet Memory Leak Fix cab?

Kyphur, don't get your life upside down. We have a great ROM to play for the moment! Thanks for your outstanding work for the community!

One issue - went to use the phone this morning and it couldn't make a call - tried a couple of numbers and it just ended up with a few beeps and "call ended". A soft reset and all was ok again. Anyone else seen this?

Don't seem to have any issues with internet/wap (with Telstra here). Wireless works fine with my dlink router.

Everything else is lookin' good so far. Things are much speedier! Don't really care much about the lack of videophone, even though my network supports it - the costs and crap quality make it a bit of a gimmick.

Total Respect Kyphur! I know how it is when you've burned the candle at both ends like you have to get something out for the benefit of others. You deserve some quiet praise for a bit.

But you must realize that you've just doled out a dose of "Crack", leaving the throngs clawing for ever more.

Sleep well, and thanks...

I noticed a very serious issue which no one else has reported on.

About nine out of ten times, when I soft-reset by press the tiny button with my stylus. I get a HTC logo, I get the red version numbers at the bottom, then they go away, then the screen gets real bright for about a second, then goes back to normal brightness, (now the bad part) when the device should now show the Windows Mobile XDA Live screen, instead the device just freezes at the HTC screen.
It also is flashing a green led on the left during the freeze, almost to indicate a problem with the wireless.

So far I’ve installed no additional programs nor even activesync’d to the pc.

Maybe because im still using ipl/spl 1.01???? or htc_boot 1.07….

since your the only one reporting the issue it isnt really a massive error.. try reflashing your device with the same ROM and leaving the bootloader at 109 and see if that fixes any problems....

Wether they are fixed or not, I honestly couldn't care less! I am happy to be running a faster OS, and can live with little quirks here and there. U have put soo much work into this, please don't be deterred by the people on this forum who only care about themselves and their precious little PPC! U are a vital part of this community, and to the people who actually care/know, we have GREAT respect for you. Take some time off, relax, rent some movies, kick back! U deserve a break more then anyone that has posted in this topic!!!!)
This has been brought up already but just thought i would repost just once.
Whenever sending a e-mail through exchange, it has a short 1 - 2 second pause sometimes almost 4 second pause where scrolling stops and everything else pauses. Anyone figure out what's going on?
Also, i've noticed it takes a pretty long time from the moment i press the Mail/txt/mms button on top , to the moment my e-mail opens. it is faster in almost every other aspect, but why is this happening?

Guys,
Kyphur as explained in his post, has spend a massive amount of time and effort cooking and testing this/his ROM and posting his findings... How about we all stop bothering him and just make simple posts here about what error/bug you encountered and how/what you did to reproduce that bug... its that simple...

1. Blah Blah this is the bug
2. Blah Blah I did this to reproduce the bug.

And if you think you know a solution/patch to fix the solution then by any means speak up... :D

now lets all have fun with WinMO6 :D

but remember... if you dont like it... use SSPL and downgrade to WinMo5 AKU3.3...

Hi.

I remember from a previous message that all the carrier themes were to be put in this ROM? I had attempted to download them but the links kept pointing to clear.gif (a 1kb file)

Are these available for download somewhere on the wiki, rapidshare, or somewhere else?

No biggie really, I just like seeing the different themes :)

By the way, kyphur, I have the Cingular 8525 and I am enjoying your ROM release. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He actually hasn't released those yet. Those will be for his next (if everyone leaves him alone) release. This version is just the first release to allow us to play with it and simply report any bugs on.

I don't think that's entirely true. Officially, this ROM was leaked by someone else, romcooker, in this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=295444) thread. Then kyphur went and applied all his modifications to this ROM and released it as XDA Live 0.1, instead of waiting to release his actual ROM that was originally given to him by an unnamed source. Officially.

Hi all,

kyphur has done an awesome job and I completely understand his frustration with the number of "why isn't this here" or "how do I get rid of the XDA Live logo".

That said, the search functions of this site don't always get you the results you want and it can be very difficult to find posts even when you know what you are looking for. I know that it took me almost half an hour to find the reg key that lets you remove the XDA logo even though I'd already seen it in my earlier travels.

It'd be great if one of the sticky threads, or even better the wiki, specifically stated a summary of what is currently known about the ROM. By making it the wiki we can try and have it as up to date as possible without having to scour through literally thousands of posts.

Anyway, just my 2cents... If one of the mods has a suggestion on where it would best be placed I'm happy to get it started.

First I would like to say thanks soo much for working on the Press and Hold Record - it means a lot to me (I've actually been spending the past 2 and a half hours figuring out how to dump the vanilla rom, extract the files and reg and had was about I think 5 minutes from getting it to work) but yours works great - I am glad to have gone through the work though because there are a couple things I wanted to enable and now instead of being a person asking other people to do it, I can at least first try myself and maybe actually donate to the cause. Once again, I can not thank you enough for the hard work you've done for all of us! You are absolutely wonderful! (I swear I use that voice recorder more times a day then I acutally use the device as a phone so you truely saved my day!)

I noticed it also. I have an 8525 with this ROM. Although, I did not make any changes to the standard install. It happened twice after a fresh flash with no other fixes, patches, or programs installed. So, I reflashed the phone and haven't had that problem since.

Sorry that I wasn't able to narrow down the exact cause. But perhaps it's just from a bad install. Try re-flashing and that might do the trick.

mate, honestly i dont mean to sound rude but try reading the 20 pages of information in this topic... it has been asked many of times and answered many of times... use PHM Registry and search for the string "XDA Live"

i also dont mean to sound rude but again: why the hell was this included in the release?!?

i hope you won't embedd that into future roms, the branded welcome screen is another uglyness aspect of this rom

Does it really bother you so much to see "XDA Live" on the today screen? I labeled it to honor this community we love and contribute to. It's not like I put my name there!!
and no i'm not against honoring this community i've been registered here for 3 years and i still think its the best and most useful community on the net, but i still dont want to see it on the today screen, everyday like 50 times.

i also know, and surely it wasnt because of a community that demanded things and asked questions. that is natural and that's part of why you do what you do. they left because they moved on, or havent had a new device that kept them pumpimg..
besides that i don't see great value in "recooking" old roms, getting my hands on a new rom is something else..

I turned on a dime last night and applied my scripts to a base Rom that is not as good quality as the one I was working with because So many expressed they wanted the fruits of my labor.
maybe it has been asked before, but how big is the version difference in your rom vs this rom?

You can use the files downloaded here:

2. Install the skin from zpv_reptile_red.cab or any Hermes skin which supports video call extra button.

Ok ,spent the first night with my new WM6 girlfriend (my other girlfriend went mad, anyway..). Just a quick note to stability: Everything works fine! My 3 freezes within 24h did not show up so far..

Applications:
- Pocket Controller
-Spb Backup
-Spb Mobile Shell (I know I know, but with WM6 its seems rock solid)
-WorldMate Pro
-Tomtom 6
-Agile Messenger
-Resco Explorer
- Opera 6 r2
-eWallet 5
-BandSwitch
-Skype
-Some of Vijay Dial & SMS Tools seems to have little problems in default mode
-Pocket Mechanic

Trials:
-PI Calendar
-SpB Insight
-SK Tools
-MemMaid

Games:
-Broken Sword
-Bejeweld 2
-High Seas

All working fine!

Little drawbacks:

- MagicButton doesnt look really nice, actually its so ugly I removed it - Does someone know how to tweak the basic color MB uses to overwrite the top menu bar?

- Smart Dialing missing. Same for auto-complete at SMS and eMail recepients. anyone knows a good replace application for this? EZdial? Others?

Still looking for a registry tweak to put my onscreen keyboard in german localization. Any help appreciated.

And please: DO SEARCH this thread BEFORE you post the "How do I remove the XDA Live" again!

Sounds like it is using bad compression or something (glitsching and poor quality)...

To those having problems (as I am) can you check in your PPC's root directory for a file called "Log.txt".

Mine says that the "Audio Decoder creation fails" so I think it's safe to say that it's a codec problem. (Definitely not a connection problem, as it successfully connects - look at the light on the front of your Slingbox while you're trying to connect, and you'll see that it comes on to indicate a connection)

Don't know what's changed in this build of WM6, but SlingPlayer works fine on my Universal with an earlier WM6 build, so there's hope.

Unfortunately I have very little time to look into this at the moment...

The stack can be found here:

there is no way to uninstall it, but if you remove the link from the startup folder it doesn't bother you anymore, but when turned of you can still use the M$ stack.

Internet Connection Sharing update.

Right I have now found what the problem is with this internet connection sharing and this may help the small minority of other users that are experiencing the same issues.

For me all i had to do was DISABLE bluetooth completely. Once this was done the Internet Connection Sharing started to work. I have no idea why this is interfearing with the Internet side of things but for me this has worked. I can put up with turning bluetooth on and off. If this can be fixed then that would be great but if not then no biggy as long as i now know.

If bluetooth is enabled when connecting to the internet via USB then the Windows Mobile Remote Adapter will fail to get a proper IP, it will only get 169.254.x.x address.

Hope this helps, and to all you gurus out there any idea why this would happen ?

I know that there were problems with bluetooth connections with AKU 3.3 and I'm sure WM6 is in the same category because of the new PAN bt profile it uses which the current version of MAC OS X doesn't support. You can read more about it in the following thread.

guys just take it easy alot of people are going to have issues with getting some applications working just remmber this is WINDOWS MOBILE 2006 - and not all applications yet work on thsi os -
i had same issue when i bought the xda exec it was running WM5 and not all apps worked on that but after few months they most of the good ones where working with patches from the software vendors-

also CHECK THE extROM that you are using if that had bugs or issues before most likley they will still be there.

WHAT might help is when making the post in the subject type in XDA LIVE issue if its something releated to that or APPLICATION PROBLEM if its releated to an app.

I will try to help as many people as i can as im sure all of the other guys on here will as well,

I installed tomtom 6.1 which did not go well, very buggy app and froze just going through the menus, with the new 6.03 version it is a lot better, occaisonally still freezes but a lot better than the last version. I've read every single post on both the threads for WMXL and there's one issue I'm not 100% clear on:

From reading the posts, it seems to me that writing to Ext Rom can only be enabled if you're Super CID, otherwise, unlocking will only give you read access to whatever was in Ext Rom before flashing.

A couple of people who are Super CID have said they can write to Ext ROM, but at this point, I would like to confirm this in a wider setting. I am waiting to upgrade until I am sure of this (otherwise I will need to stuff the Ext ROM full of files beforehand)

Is there anyone out there who is using this ROM and is super CID and has NOT been able to write to Ext_ROM? (after unlocking it, of course)

Thanks

I installed tomtom 6.1 which did not go well, very buggy app and froze just going through the menus, with the new 6.03 version it is a lot better, occaisonally still freezes but a lot better than the last version. Suggest giving that version a go. Also ensure you install the app onto the main memory.

I believe tomtom freezes looking for the GPS receiver. When the GPS receiver is connected it never freezes.

Also when pressing the windows key unfreezes it.

But I'm using the widcomm stack and it doesn't freeze but jumps to search screen.

So the freezing is just a BT problem.

TT6 works, with minor hangs during launch, then fine.
-None of the HSDPA Fixes seem to be working. (Personally it is one these things you have but never use. If I had a choice I'd terminate 3G completely and double my battery life.)

Dual sim works great !

Thanks to all that made this possible I definitely appreciate you!

I am glad I waited to post as most of my issues are resolved...look at these pics though, off my HTC TyTn. Notice the 5 and a 6?

Curiouser and curiouser?

How is that you have U(MTS) and E(DGE) instead of 3G and G(PRS) like I have with this XDA Live for icons?

I find the issues I have had with this rom are very minor compared to the advantages it offers..

1) except I can no longer use sling player mobile..Man I didn't realize how much I would miss slingplayer..
- As somone has already pointed out it is a audio decoder issue or something similar according to my log file

2) i was hoping this would fix bluetooth and MS voice command issues..Oh well, I did install the Widcomm stack and it works very well and also allows MS VC to work.

3) Sometimes my device will not wake up and I have to soft reset. Probably some third party app. I hard reset and without any apps installed or other reg fixes and it still had the issue; so maybe it is something with porblem 4

4) since upgrading to WM6, Files show as missing on Sdcard once in a while. Others had this issue with WM5 aku3.x So I guess its not new (i tried the reg fix, doesn't seem to matter)

So all in all its not that bad...Can't wait for the Non-beta or RTM version to be leaked...Great job to Kuyphur and really to whoever leaked this version.

It is SPB mobile Shell..

It looks really good, some people have trouble with it and others have no problems at all in WM6..

I know that there were problems with bluetooth connections with AKU 3.3 and I'm sure WM6 is in the same category because of the new PAN bt profile it uses which the current version of MAC OS X doesn't support. You can read more about it in the following thread.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293595&

Well, that thread refers to problems experienced while using the device as a modem.

My problem is with the actual syncing of contacts & calendar etc.

Has anyone else tried this ROM with a Mac?

Not in your answerer scope (but you might wait forever for someone to chime in that they have NOT been able to write with SuperCID) but I can tell you that SuperCID enables write capabilities to the ExtROM on my TyTN which is running WM6.

after using this rom for a day, honestly there isn't much difference between this version and the vanilla verson, the main difference is the ms office icons are restored; i personally found the huge XDA LIVE very irritating(i've removed it since) and that the vjlitmus thingy should be removed as i couldn't find a way to deactivate it once it's turned on and prolong periods of turning your flash on will kill the bulb inside...

other then that, there are additions that are nice, sms backup being 1 of them... but anything else i can install by myself...

but still, i'm very sure that people have gone thru hours to get this thing up and running... surely it's not as easy as just installing a few stuff then zipping it up... the stages involved - requirements gathering, requirements analysis, software development, software integration, testing and finally user acceptance tests...

i feel that while people have the right to say that they don't appreciate your efforts becos they only see the surface level of things, they do not know what the developer has went through to give them this little bit...

still, please do show alittle bit of respect and do not post negative stuff about this rom, while whatever that has been done might be little towards you, it's not as easy as it seems...

the worst that can happen would be for the mods to give up on cooking this rom as they feel that they are not appreciated!!! do bear in mind that this is a little step towards a great journey... everything presented has been positive and not negative... unless it's a step in the wrong direction, we should alert... else please be positive about it and hope that with every new release, it'll come nearer to perfection!

forgot to add... what i appreciate most is that somebody has went thru all the effort to add build-in applications that i would have had to spend time installing myself... if you have like 50+ applications to install with every new rom release you'll understand the difference between installing 40 and installing 50 apps.

i wouldn't say that this is a great release but i see this as a good release on the way to becoming great...

please do show some respect and grattitude... even if you prefer the vanilla rom, go ahead and use the vanilla rom... but do NOT post negative stuff about things that people are giving you for FREE...

give you free already you still complain... what else do you want?
for us to pay you to use free stuff?

i never said i don't appreciate his "effort", besides that, how much of an effort is it to edit the registry hive, which is an ascii file, and add the xda-live string.. thats not really an effort.. i respect his work in general and think its good if people do stuff like that for free in their own time

i doubt that somebody would give up his work as soon as somebody comes up with a little criticism (especially about a one string registry hack).. if that happens he intended to stop working on it much earlier...

jeez... it's called criticism.. and it was about a string and a png file.. come on guys... i already said that i respect his work and his devoted time, i guess everybody feels that who downloads one of the wm6 roms..

i used to develop free software and i never saw something bad in criticism you should be man enough to deal with it if you are able to use javascripts to build a rom

"XDA Live" was not the only registry edit made to the Hive file.

It is easily reversed if it bugs you that much, PHM RegEdit has a Search Feature, find it.

When I decided to put it there, I knew that it would not interfer with your today plug-Ins, if they go down far enough it simply disappears automagically. If I had used a more subtle background image it wouldn't do the same.

The OS determines the size of the text when using that method.

A lot more effort went into this than many seem to realize. To be honest I miss having the same Rom on my phone for more that 4 hours. I've learned this process without harrassing everyone who has ever done it before. I read threads and privately asked a few respected members simple questions (then waited patiently for their response filling that time with my continued search for the answer anyway - sometime they answered before I found the solution, sometimes not).

Did I miss someone complaining about "XDA Live" at the top of the Windows Splash Screen?

Honestly, if you don't like my work then use something else, I'm not offended.

Now can we get back to issues at hand, I would love to release v0.20 by Monday but it needs to be ready for final testing By bedtime Friday (and I will need some testers).

I have Google maps installed also. I have had the same thing happen several times. I'm using it via wifi. I get the following error:

This program requires a data connection, and will retry automatically. In the mean time, please check your signal strength.

(Error: wininetReadError[6])

If I just retry to"find location..." a couple more times, that seems to do the trick.

I searched on Google for that error and someone else posted that they had the same issue on their Qtek 9100 running WM6. So, it appears it's an issue with the OS itself. Unfortunately, I'm not sure of a solution.

What kind of connection are you using? Also what radio are you using? I've got radio 1.35.

Just a quick thought, I'm sure it won't cut down on all the posts here but is it worth a shot to create a wiki page where people can list bugs, feature requests and solutions - I guess it would require people to read the wiki before the thread but maybe it would be helpful to have a place to go for people to quickly check if somebody else has already listed their issue instead of 90 people stating the same thing? If you think it's a good idea, I'd be happy to help set it up - don't want to step on toes though - maybe this is a better venue for such things - it's just one of my momentary thoughts.

Hi, In refrence to the questions about internet calling, I can't say for sure, as I haven't and wont not install the viop fix.
But I imagine you'll have to set up a sip number acct from like here
http://www.sipnumber.com/

Gizmo voip and others use the same method.

It shouldn't matter by carrier, though Im not sure abour access point useage, but as long as you have a data connection it will work (providing it actually works in the os)
I could be completely wrong too.

just reposting becuase of all the bullSH*T threads.

Problem : When in E-mail and sending a message through exchange, it locks up for about 4 seconds and then continues on. Not a big problem, but does get irritable at times.

Problem : Sometimes bottom buttons (call, end call, ok, windows, and other 2) seem to stop working until i go into Settings->personal->buttons. Then close out and buttons work again.

Problem : Load up time for Outlook e-mail IS PRETTY LONG compared to my 8125. I press the top E-mail button on phone and after 3 seconds e-mail appears. On 8125, takes about 1.5-2 seconds. (once again, not big deal just wondering if it can be fixed.)

Problem : Memory leak issue still apparent. I have following programs installed
WisBar Advanced 2
"" desktop
Iguidance
Bandswitch
HTweakC
Memmaid
Still goes from 24 mb after soft reaset to around 17 mb after about 6 hours.

Problem : When playing Mp4 files through WMP over bluetooth, for some odd reason, it goes straight to built in speaker. ONLY WITH MP4 files? Any help?

Fixes

Problem Fixed : AD2P Has fixed its skipping with Sleuths hack and the registry value editing found in these thread around pages 25 - 33!! (still skips SLIGHTLY every 40 second or so. VERY SLIGHTLY!!)

Problem Fixed : Re-appearing "Help windows get better" notification. FIX is to not soft reset, but actually power off by holding down power button and clicking YES.

Will add more later. Off to work

Please please please compile a complete but streamlined XDALive update. Even the flashlight tool was too much. Create a suplimental cab with your bells and whistles (ie XDALive plus) We can download what we want and install it. If you have the skill/balls to flash your firmware then you certainly have the skill to download and install an app. We need stability and device issues worked out eg: PTT, HSDPA, WIFInit, etc...(which have been worked out) Let the gods concentrate on getting what microsoft and (partially) HTC intend to be included in a real WM6 release. (voice dial, ICS, windows live, HTML w/ exchange 2003 sp2 hack, etc...)

Lastly, XDALive didnt change my ext_rom but why didnt my 8525, upon flashing, run any of the cabs noted in the config.txt file. I have security programs that need to run if a thief/person tries to hard reset my phone. Thanks

I think I'd report just "success" reports in either the other XDA Live thread or perhaps start a new one. This one was supposed to be just for posting issues (as the title would suggest).

It's already strayed from that quite a bit, unfortunately.

First, I'd like to give my thanks to the authors and developers of this -- I really do appreciate it.

Everything seems to be working nicely - aside from a few quirks with wi-fi, as discussed previously.

I'm also getting something strange on my 8525 with Cingular, which might be carrier specific....

Whenever I stream media - Orb, for example - it will stream nicely for a short while - then I'll lose my "3G" icon and get a large "U" and also a small "E" next to the reception bars. I'll also lose the stream. Thus, I'm confused - perhaps it dropped to UMTS from HSDPA -- but the small E would suggest EDGE, and I have confirmed that I do in fact get EDGE speeds with the "U" there. A bug perhaps?

As an aside, when moving in a car, streaming media seems to be problematic in general. It seems to lose the connection during, what I would assume, is a hand-off. Is this a problem inherent to HSDPA, coverage issues, or something else? Do people see this on EVDO with, say, Sprint's 6700?

Hope this helps, and to all you gurus out there any idea why this would happen ?

thanks for all the hardwork.

Were you using something bluetooth that uses a serial port? They always caused problems with both the AKU2 and 3 versions of the internet-usb aplications, if you picked the wrong port by accident (COM8 was always problematic for example)

If so using another port may save you having to turn it off fully as it works ok for me with BT on on my M3100 (Orange UK then upgraded to the WMXL f/w)

after using this rom for a day, honestly there isn't much difference between this version and the vanilla verson, the main difference is the ms office icons are restored; i personally found the huge XDA LIVE very irritating(i've removed it since) and that the vjlitmus thingy should be removed as i couldn't find a way to deactivate it once it's turned on and prolong periods of turning your flash on will kill the bulb inside...

The XDA Live is fine (and hardly a major issue even if you do want to remove it.. it took me about 30 seconds.) - but lets not get into that too much..

as for the light... to turn it off just hit the icon again and its a toggle so it turns it off if its on, and on if its off.

Its an LED and so it has a massivly long life.. it will outlast the phone even if you leave it on 24/7 forever ;)

Just upgraded to this ROM, the first bug I've come across is that I can't access Contacts list. does anyone else have this problem? if so how did you resolve it?

This is gonna sound silly.. but do you mean you cant actually access the contacts application at all or that the list is missing in it?

If you mean the list is missing in it after flashing this happens as the phone is wiped during the flash so you have to restore a backup of the contacts (or resync the phone) to get them back. (apologies if this isnt the issue - but just in case this is your first flash i thought it was worth mentioning)

In response/reply to my earlier two posts about GoodLink not working on WM6...

Motorola-Good released version 4.9.3 today. (which according to an email from a Good rep, is supposed to support WM6)

I downloaded it but am still having trouble getting it to install on WM6. I'm still getting the "Good Messaging is not supported for this type of handheld." error. I'm thinking it may be a combination of WM6 and also our GoodServer may not be up to 4.9.3 yet so it doesn't know what to do when a 4.9.3 client connects to it.

I'm posting the link to Good 4.9.3 in case anyone would like to see if they can figure it out.

Use the last download button on the page, the SD installation version. The others are for the server.

Hi all.
I am having a problem with turning the phone off. If I go to the comm manager to turn it off,or if I put it into flight mode, the phone appears to continue searching for a network while off!Instead of showing the antenna icon with an x next to it, it shows the icon with the scrolling dots after it (as if looking for the network).

How is that you have U(MTS) and E(DGE) instead of 3G and G(PRS) like I have with this XDA Live for icons?

That is just what showed up after I did the upgrade...perhaps it's because I live in an area where there is no 3G?

I don't ever use GoodLink, but I went ahead and installed it from the extended rom on my 8525.

Didn't have a single problem during installation. Did you try unlocking your ext rom and installing it from there? If not, that may do it for you too.

No I did not try that...haven't done much except flashing the main ROM on HTC devices yet (well and the Radio ROM)...I'll have to research some more and figure how to do what you are saying, unless of course you'd like to give me a crash course. PM me if so.

Well, I guess I should also mention that the error comes up during the "online" setup of GoodLink...which may point to an issue with our GoodServers not recognizing the WM6 HERMES as a supported device.

No need to flame someone's hard work. If you don't like it, use the "vanilla" WM6 ROM or make your own ROM.

EDIT: BTW, if you are complaining about the XDA Live showing up on the Today screen, let me be the first to tell you, you are a moron. Took me about 5 seconds to open up the registry editor included in this ROM and find the words "XDA" and delete it from the Today key in the registry. If you are complaining about the loading Splash Screen page with XDA Live, well then, my original post above should suffice.

Hi, I see you're on at&t, UMTS is 3G (im gonna be so flamed if Im wrong, but Im like 99% sure) What Im wondering is if you had the "U" before adding any carrier .cab's to the base xda live? or if you even did add any. Maybe others can say if the did also.

Thing is earlier I looked at my \windows folder with resco pic viewer, and there is no "U" in there, there is an "E" and a "3G" and kinda surprised me an "Ev" for evdo set, also the 3G set didn't have the small "3G" for next to the signal bars like the "G" does.

I dunno if the U could be located elsewhere, but that's where WM5 had it, just curious as to how people are havin the U show, since it doesn't appear to be there on the base xda live rom, I would imagine it would show "3G".

Yup guess I'll need to make my own one then, the Wizard ROM is perfect that would be my target. Even the vanilla hermes rom has junk on the splash screen.

I'm not against people branding their own ROMs its pretty cool, but requiring us to reg edit every time we hard reset to get rid of some useless stuff is annoying. Also it appeared to me he didn't even ask what we'd like, I'd like MSN Live on there even if it is still beta, the Wizard WM6 ROM has it, and I'd like the version of Active Sync remote display from the newer Windows Mobile Developer Power toys.

Criticism of someone who devotes time and money to us for no specific reward?? Very ungrateful, poor form and an explanation to your "problem" has been provided 10 times already. Ive never editied a registry in my life and it took me all of 5 seconds.

To Kyphur:

Hardware: Imate jasjam
Carrier: Telstra Aust
ROM vers: 3.22.110.1 (suprise suprise lol)
Radio vers: 1.16.00.00

Only issues:

- SMS receiving has been "strange". Out of 4 sent to me that i know of following the Rom going in, one never arrived, one turned up at about mindight although it was sent many hours before. HOWEVER - this may be a network issue or similar. But thought i'd "throw it out there" in case others had similar issues. SMS sending works 100%.

- 3G icon instead of previous U icon. Well versed already. Frankly... dont understand the difference between the 3G/U icon... all i know is that it used to be a U and now it says 3G lol. With HSPDA back up and running, data access just as quick. The icon is merely cosmetic?

And not an issue with the ROM... but thought you may enjoy a laugh at my expense.... work PC's (where i sync my PDA 99.99% of the time) has Activesync 4.2 installed and It dont seem keen to update either. Woops!!

Hope can be of some assistance in the ongoing development. But for a 0.1 version number, VERY impressive. Might as well throw that 1 on the other side of the decimal place and call it a day lol.

Thanks, and yeah the icon is purely cosmetic, you could go in and modify it to be any letter or symbol.

I do agree with you on the rom, there is a very good chance I won't ever change it out on mine, I haven't ran into any real usability issues except twice today I have ran out of memory, gotta find a better task manager or a free memory utility..I dunno.

Hi,
Upgraded on first day and think its great (well done, I am very grateful, goes like a rocket), had a few issues when first setting up but they seemed to go away.
Ongoing problems I do have are minor and they are sometimes when I do a soft reset using SPB mobile shell the phone gets to the first splash screen and stops. Have to do a soft re set with the pen and all is OK. The other is when I initiate or finish a call I hear a crackling splat through the earpiece or speaker. Had not noticed this on my old rom.

Hahaha, yeah i know i need AS4.5 and will install it at home, it's just that at work... the IT gurus like to test stuff for months before deploying it to 500 or so PC's. Prob should have checked AS vers before upgrading the ROM. Nothing beats learning the hard way though!!

Your SMS issues are strange... are you using a NextG sim? or just a plain Telstra SIM??

Very strange, which is why i think may have just been a temp network issue. Got home and asked my housemate to send me an SMS and it came through without delay. FYI i run a NextG sim.

Looks like im behind on the times with the Radio ROM but will need to get a PC setup with AS4.5 before i tinker any further lol.

Why don't you sync your device to a server? www.mail2web.com offers free push and contact/calender/tasks syncing. Since my pc's motherboard is fried I haven't synced my device to my PC (been about 4 months now), just hard reset, add the server on my device and it reloads all my contacts.

Cannot report a single issue with WM6 :) Everything works perfect.

I have installed 35 apps so far, all work. I had one single freeze yesterday.

But I got the impression it has to do with random lock-ups reading form the storage card. So I made sure, all silently running apps are in RAM: SpB Backup, some today items etc. And the mail attachement go in RAM as well. Will report on further freezes.

yes it is. But your exchange administrator is not entirely correct, nor has he wrong,
The html mails are indeed forwarded *unchanged* but, as I have understood, with an added "code" which tells Outlook mobile that it should not use html mails. Not sure why ms have done it like this but they DO want us to buy Exhcange 2007.
If you wanna use html mails, just use imap (or pop3?)

Ok getting back to topic. Everything seems to be working fine but I just have a few issues..

1.) When my phone is connected to USB to charge it will constantly turn my screen back on for no reason. This is not good because it leaves my screen on all the time. Just to clarify this is when I press the power button to shut the screen off. So basicly I have to turn the phone completely off when I want to charge it. Never did this before with any ROM..

2.) Whenever I do anything with HTweakC 2.1 I have a 98% chance that when I reset the device will hang at the beginning HTC boot screen and it never makes it to the windows mobile start screen. I basiclly have to keep resetting it till it boots. This ONLY happens when I make a change in HTweakC and most of the time the changes don't stick anyway.

3.) I installed the wifi cab init fix and maybe I'm confused on what this does but ever since I installed it whenever I reboot my device wifi comes up as unavailable. So I assume this cab is to turn wifi on on boot up which is fine but when you go into the comm manager it shows it as off.

patches the coredll.dll from OS Version 5.2.318 to 5.1.195. In combination with BBC Version 2.1.2.31 this will result in a pseudo random os version string that is allowed to connect to the blackberry network.

Direct Hex Editing of the .nb (or .nbh) file is very dangerous for Hermes. The issue is with the NAND Flash type. If we send a bad image to our phones we brick them even though we don't touch bootloader (Man I miss that about Wizard).

If there is someone here comfortable with hex editing the Coredll.dll to change the version number then we can replace the original coredll.dll in the Rom and in theory BB Connect would work. This might fix install issues with other programs also.

BTW, making a change like that would be one of the things that would allow me to release with my original base Rom (which seems more stable to me).

So, who's a master HexEditor????

Man,

I don't know what I've done for you to think that I don't want input. I'm trying to be as responsive as I can be.

For the time being, WLM, MSN, and Voice Dialers are all going to be "Install your choice". I will do my best to gather up the different options and make them available.

If you'd like to see CE Remote Display replaced with a newer version, fine suggest it, maybe even post the .cab file to save me the trouble of hunting it down. I'll look into it. I'm only one person I can't be everywhere.

As to the XDA Live text on the today screen, I'm amazed that nobody is offered alternatives. Geez, why not contribute a little to this Rom, make a Logo and put it out here for others to vote on!

I think we need to have a little fun on the side, get your Today Theme creations skills together and let's see some XDA Live Today Themes! Hey I'll even entertain a new Windows Splash Screen! Don't cry that you don't like what I did, grow some balls and put your ideas out for the community to discuss. (Not aimed at any single user here)....

Why direct edit NB/NBH, kypur?
you could simply extract the file from the rom, hex-edit it (assuming there's no digital signatures) and addfile it after..
Am I missing something? :)

Hey I'll even entertain a new Windows Splash Screen!
I'm actually creating a windows boot screen (the secondary splash) taking the image from Vista's boot screen
(everyone knows WM6 is basically a WM5 with vista's glossy icons.. so.. why don't we take vista's boot screen and make it the base for WM6 one?)

kyphur
1st March 2007, 03:07 PM
That was what I said. We should not even try to direct edit the nb/nbh file.

So who wants to dig around in the coredll.dll?? I hate Hex Editing...

I can..And maybe we even don't need to hex edit it maybe we could only modify the version manifest and see if it works.

Gimme that file, please..

you can follow those steps to create the secondary splash.nb:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294561
or wait for kyphur to embed it in XDA Live 0.2 rom :)

BTW..attached here you will find the NB to flash with the 1.01 MFG bootloader

I was suprised at that because the mail still contains the HTML to be displayed! When i spoke to my exchange server administrator as well he said that all the exchange server does is forward the format it received the email the rendering was done at a client level. Is this feature documented as an exchange server 2007 feature.

yes, just try a google search..
I am having the same issues and we are going to upgrade to Exchange 2007.

All,

Since using this very nice release I'm having some problems with streaming MP3's to windows media player using orb's mycast service over UMTS.
It works but cuts off at some 50 seconds....any ideas?
Keep up the good work!

Okay something else weird..

I noticed since going to this my battery life has been horrible. I mean I would loose 50% battery life easy without even using the phone and only have push email through an 11hr period and sometimes more.

Seems like wayyyy too much battery just for push email then I started to notice that when I locked my screen it would activate and turn back on by just touching the screen etc and this is when it was set to only turn on by the power button.

So I went into settings/system/key lock and it was set to only activate by power button. I had to change the setting to something else and then switch it back to only turn on by power button and it seems to be working correctly now but I will test some more.

Any else have this problem?

I posted some other problems earlier but I must be the only one experiencing them..

I like it,

Just to see how it looks, I changed the size to 320 by 320, moved the text and orb a bit (to ensuere proper display in landscape) and saved it as welcomehead.96.png. Then replaced the file in my wondows folder so it is the 3rd splash screen (Windows Boot Screen) on my device.

Unless I hear to many objections this might be incorporated into v0.20!

Here it is!

:D

I hope you all like it

Okay to elaborate more on this I notied a bug..

When I lock my phone if I just wait and let the screen turn off by itself then it will turn back on by just touching the screen. It should not do this it should only turn back on by pressing the power button.

Now if I lock my screen and then turn the screen of by pressing the power button then it works correctly and will only come back on by pressing the power button like its suppose to..

I hope that makes sense and I have tried it serveral times and I get the same results..

no my battery life is unbelivable even after playing music texting. i think in the htc tweaks u can increase battery life.

which push email service are you using

I have not noticed a decrease in battery life, if anything my battery is lasting longer (I am using exchange and get alot of email- but use the radio little)

The Bluetooth is a downgrade for me though. My previous version (see sig) connected to my car fine, and all functions worked well...but now I can pair the two and connect once, then I cannot connect again.

.

I woke up this morning to my phone being completely drained, I didn't have it on charge, but it was well full (about 70%) the night before, and all would normally be OK, and I don't have push mail active....

It may be a problem...

The orb can't be moved without loosing the color shadows but you can resize it to make it smaller and then move it without loosing the color shadows effect.
(I already did it)

But.. do we need it?
When my device boots splash screens are always in portrait mode.

AFIK, only the Cingular AKU 3.3 Rom has an animated splash screen and they (either Cingular or HTC) hacked that. It is not standard function.

Splash Screens are animated.

If you reset your device while the keyboard is slid out the windows splash will be landscape.

I would prefer to use the windows splah for subtle branding.

I was able to easily adjust the positions of everything....

Ya know, that's exactly what happened to me the first time and man was I frustrated. I mean why have a stereo headset just for phone calls.

Well I was tinkering and since the AVRCP (you know play/pause, next track/prev track) was working I cranked up the volume and discovered that I was infact streaming Audio! Try turning up the volume on your headset and WMP, see if that does anything.

I just tested with my gMail Account and it works as expected.

I trust you are aware of the whole gMail issue in that once an item is marked as downloaded via POP then it will dissapear from your inbox?

This means if you are popping gMail from a PC and your phone anything you d/l on PC will never show up on the phone and once you've read something on the phone it won't show up either on the phone or at your PC.

Look in your gMail Account setting and set Pop flag to download everything in your inbox (right now there should be a time stamp there).

I get around this my forwarding all of my gMail to an IMAP account, works so much better.

on a fresh flash i do the following after selecting other/ then pop/ step 1. hustle@gmail.com/\ step 2 name hustle/ username hustle password _____ step 3. account type pop3/ step 4. incoming mail pop.gmail.com:995 outgoing mail smtp.gmail.com:465

Modifying the OS Version is one of the steps that needs to be completed for me to be able to switch to the other base Rom. I'm still waiting for a list of other things I might have missed.

I'm taking a slight pause to prevent total burn-out, I can only look at this stuff (the Rom Kitchen) for so long...

Please, are you seriously asking how to install the CAB files onto your phone?

If you don't know that then you really need to do a lot more reading before you flash anything.

Hint (the CAB files are meant for your device not your computer)...

Hey, noobie here, first day actually. I did a lot of reading and was able to get my phone's SIM and CID unlocked. Flashed my ROM with XDA Live. But for the life of me I can not figure out how to get the upgrades installed. I did get the Windows Live upgrade installed though. Help?

P.S. Great job to all who worked on the upgrade. Been playing with it for a little while and love it!
