I have installed the new XDA Live Rom on my HTC TyTN. I am on the Cingualr/AT&T network and I have a roaming triangle icon on the top of the screen. I had this same icon on the the original HTC Rom when I received the phone but when I upgraded to the Cingular Roms the roaming icon disappeared. Is there some registry setting or cab file that I need to install to remove this icon?

There is a cab file in one of the cingular's extended rom files that removes the roaming triangle. I can't remember which one though. SInce, this rom does not overwrite your extended rom, maybe you still have the cab in your extended rom. Use total commander to look at your \extended_rom

You could download WinCE cab manager and review each cab in a Cingular extended rom and then apply the right cab file.

Thanks for the reply. I installed all the cabs in the Cingular extended rom but still no joy. Any other ideas?

I was running the 2.06 Cingular ROM and once I installed WM6 Vanilla I saw the Roaming Triangle.

Its not the radio since that doesn't change with the current WM6 roms available. I also tried running all cabs in the ext_rom but no luck there, also tried rolling back to the cingular ROM and soft reset before customizations could begin and no triangle.

It has to be something in the Registry that is already part of the OS. I hate having to confirm a manual sync because it thinks I'm roaming in WM6, any help from our experts?

Anyone know of a way to export the registry and run a compare?

I am not at home where I can look at the cabs in the cingular roms, but their are a couple registry settings for syncing during roaming etc

\hkcu\software\microsoft\activesync\
SyncWhenRoaming=1

\hklm\comm\tiacxwln1\parms
HTCSeamlessRoamingEnable=1

i will try to find the cab that disables the triangle notifications later

I haven't experienced the roaming triangle on my build of WM6 (which has had very few registry customizations). However, HTCSeamlessRoamingEnable=0 on mine so that's not likely to be it.

What about Current Operator Name under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/State/Phone

On my Cingular rom its value is 'Cingular'

(with out the ' ')

Or is this going to change if I was roaming..

The change is definitely in the OS and not one of the cabs. I tried the registry changes you suggested and it had no effect. Any other thoughts?

persons on the old AT&T network (like here in Hawaii) will get the roaming icon. However, people who are on the original Cingular network (like in the SouthEast USA) will not get the roaming icon.
I used to get the roaming icon on the original shipping TyTN rom. But, when I upgraded to the 1.35 rom it went away. I haven't had the courage to upgrade to the WM6 rom yet...

I used to have the roaming icon on the original shipping ROM on my TyTN (oh, the memories).
with the 1.35 and the XDA-Live 0.2 ROMs, I no longer have the roaming icon. BTW, I am on radio 1.34 now.

I can't figure this out. I originally had a HTC TyTN that had the roaming icon whenever I used any of the HTC ROM's. If I installed any of the Cingular ROM (1.34 or 2.06) the roaming icon went away. I dropped my TyTN and shattered the screen so I went and got an 8525. It came with the 1.34 ROM installed and no roaming icon. I superCID the device and installed XDA Live v0.2 and the roaming icon reappeared. I then installed all the cabs in the extended ROM from the orginal ROM and stil no joy. I don't get charged any roaming fees so it's not that big of deal but I sure would like know what's going on.

The first time I installed XDA Live I had the same problem and then I installed the Cingular cab located http://www.htcclub.net/en/settings.php

I just did a fresh os install of XDA Live yesturday and no roaming icon so I didn't need to install that .cab..

who knows but I hope that helps..Oh and I had to shut off and restart..

first time reading this thread because I have had bith lvsw and wmxl v1,2, and 3 and never had this problem until today. It started as soon as I installed Magic X button. I never used it before and was bored, I will take apart the cab later and see if that install caused it. The only other idea is that since I was driving though the middle of no where It is possible that I roamed for a few minutes and now the icon is stuck on even though I am no longer roaming.

Edit- I am still traveling so did not look into that cab yet, but I did get rid of the roaming icon. I uninstalled the Magic X button but that didn't help It went away by going to settings..phone..services...get settings (i did that for each one in the box) then I went to network and hit 'Find Network'...Then I did a SR. At reboot the roaming icon was gone.

Between HTC, Microsoft, and Cingular all being wacky companies who knows what caused it. I will still look at the Magic X button Cab later to be sure it wasn't that.

I'm a little late to the thread but I had the same issue while travelling in SoCAL last week. I did install the Cingular WAP settings 2 CAB and I didn't see a roaming icon afterwards, but that could have been because where I was traveling then. I see others have that installed and still have the issue but it might be worth a try.

Since I started a similar thread, a bit of an update ... now that I am back home in Oakland, my roaming icon went away .. so perhaps there is some truth to the fact that the newer ROMs are more "tower sensative" when choosing to show the roaming icon or not. I will keep an eye on it, as there must be something more going on here (since I did not have the icon with LVSW's ROM, but did have it with Black 2.0).

The other thread is here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=301174)... wish there was a way to merge the two.

even if it doesn't fix the roaming indicator problem, i have noticed better reception & battery life with the new radio rom. ymmv.

Nope this doesn't fix the issue. Do you guys think going to radio rom prior 1.38.x would fix the issue?

This is annoying and I can't figure out which reg key it is to fix. It may be a file. The phone thinks it's on 3G and i'm on T-Mobile where the max speed you get is Edge in the US. Maybe a method to make it look for only Edge network (non 3g). Any patches out there?

No Fix yet... I am waiting patiently. I noticed when I installed the original stock ROM, the icon did show up. But, after the ROM installs it's branded ATT software and reboots the icon went away.

So I took the original rom's install branded software which I believe is in (extended ROM). Please correct me if I'm wrong, then i backed it up to my external SD card. I then flashed ROM black2.0 and I got the ICON. When I intalled the branded back up software I saved on the SD Card, the icon was still there. I do not know what's up. I'm out of ideas.

Anyone?

to add some more details to my intermittent roaming icon.

Whenever after I drive through the country on long road trips I notice a roaming icon and even after going back to a known home cingular area the icon gets stuck on. last time I got rid of it with some SR, messing with phone settings and changing SIMs from another phone I have then putting the original SIM back. none of these work religiously just get lucky I guess. I am stuck this time and nothing working though. I may be HR soon after this road trip I guess.

EDIT:

I think it is a "Notification" problem. Hanging or duplicate...... I usually don't have duplicate notification when I run memmaid and today I do. And the duplicate cant be removed. I am still playing with it.

I am guessing here that it's a operator logo issue telling the phone that it's T-Mobile service not Cingular/ATT. I notice when my phone software had the Original Shipped ATT Rom, the roaming ICON didn't show up. If you go to dial a number you will see that it shows T-Mobile there. I found a temporary way to change this to Cingular in the registry, but as you may guess this didn't take away the roaming icon.

There has to be a fix for this. Anyone?

I did about 4 hours on the internet last night reading on GSM roaming, tower ID, and Cingular SIMs. This is my conclusion.

The standard Cingular SIM blocks tower selection and also blocks showing roaming on most phones because that is what Cingular wants the customer to see....a home network where you always have service. The bad part of this for most users only happens when they roam often and do not know it since it doenst show roaming. Then Cingular send the customer a nasty letter saying they roam too much and they are being disconnected since they cost the company to much money. Well for Hermes users without branded software the phone acts as it should and roam icon appears since the list of networks in the phone for a home area is incomplete for the current Cingular/ATT network. Further there are old reg hack to manual network select and they only work a little. The hermes will allow the reg edit to stay until SR at which time the SIM defaults it back to auto network selection. Also the SIM never allows for the network to manual change even though you can reg edit to show the other networks until a SR.

So I think we have two routes to go to try to solve this.

1. find the correct reg edit to permanently disable the roaming icon....then like other cingular phones you will never know when you are actually roaming.

or

2. find the scripts/files or whatever from a branded ROM that installs the most updated network ID so the phone knows what is an acceptable home vs roam network.

EDIT: Anyone else want to confirm that LVSW 4/23 Big Storage Full with my WAP Setup CAB and the roaming icon is working as it should..meaning when I was roaming today (I checked via GSM ID, and I was roaming and the icon was ON, then I went to a native Cingular area and the icon ACTUALLY turned OFF as it should)

Further more, I just updated my Cingular 8525 unlocked (T-mobile) to the LVSW 5-19-07 ROM. Now I have the same Roaming Icon (with Edge) that this forum has been discussing. I have yet to find a resolution by searching the xda forums. Has anyone been able to fix this issue?

I've also had this issue with several roms and radio 1.40 + above. The roaming icon appeared about 3-4 weeks ago. In my area Cingular is about to light up several UMTS towers, so I figured it had something to do with the network upgrade. Cingular is making many changes to the network all over the US, trying to handle the load "expected" from the IPhone. Is this an issue for others while connected to only an EDGE tower?

Just updated my radio stack from 1.40.30.00 to the new 1.43.00.00 which seems to be working very well....so far. But, the infamous Roaming Triangle Icon is still next to the E (Edge) Icon.

Zeros
25-06-2007, 09:21 PM
The triangle icon was driving me crazy, so I did a bit of research. The only ROM that I could install (wm6 rom that is) that would not show the icon was Custel 2.0.2. I would have the triangle until the customizations would run after a fresh install. Then it would reboot and have no triangle. I figured it was a file in the Extended ROM (just like everyone else) that was fixing the triangle. I copied every file inthe EXT rom and tried to run them, but still had the triangle. I also tried all of the Ext ROM files from the original Cingular rom to see if any of these would get rid of the triangle. No luck. After a bit of searching I found out that at a hard reset it will run the EXT rom files that are listed in a text file called "config" stored in the Ext ROM. Since none of the Ext ROM files fixed it, I knew it was running something else that fixes it. At a hard boot it ALSO runs the "config.txt" file in the \Windows folder. It is one of these modifications that disables the triangle. If someone can look at these files listed in config.txt in the \windows folder of either the Custel 2.0.2 ROM of the original Cingular ROM, they may be able to figure out what change fixes the icon. I know that was long and may not be much help, but that is as far as I was able to get on my own.

I am on VP3G Hybrid but I have used LVSW (all) and XDA and it is EVERY time I go to Los Angelos, CA I am roaming. I KNOW I am not roaming since it is a
3G market for cingular. I tried two different SIMs and still raoming. Does everyone in Cali have this problem?

Also unfortunalty I will not have time this week in LA area (or highspeed interent...damn 3G areas suck) or I would look into the preconfig.txt in the windows dir. But since when I go home I dont see a roaming icon I cant really test to see which file is the culprit

What company do you use ?? cingular or T-Mobile USA.
One more thing, when I go to mobile.google.com I see google recognizes my phone as Dopod C730 and shows this Message "Google services for your Dopod C730"
I think if we can change that then the carrier will recongnize our phone , and the roaming icon will be gone

Hey guys, I just happened on this thread. I don't mind the roaming icon. I have it constantly but I also travel constantly and am never in my home network. I am going to leave this alone in the hopes that it actually works as it is intended to.

However, I have been going through alot of other threads looking for a fix to a Bluetooth issue, and I noticed this in this Wiki's reghack page:

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings]
"ShowRoamWarning" = dword:00000000

It says that this hack is supposed to "Disable Warning Message About Roaming Charges when manually retrieving Xpress Mail", but also gives the following warning: "This might (and probably DOES) blanketly turn off all warnings about roaming ... even if you REALLY ARE ROAMING. So if your plan doesn't include free roaming, you might not wish to make the change"

Ya'll might wanna give this one a shot? Just tryin to help out :) Good luck.

I flashed Black Majik and and Schnaps 3.60 in the last two days.

With both: when I try a manual send/recieve in outlook, it tells me I'm roaming and I have to confirm to send/recieve.

I however do not have the roaming icon on the top bar and my network shows AT&T.

If xpressfail does its thing it makes no mention of roaming.

Now all this has taken place at my house where I have good coverage.

It was referred to in the first page of the post, but the rest has concentrated on the roaming icon....

So any suggestions??? wpbear??

I have noticed on my bill that roaming on friendly networks happens but I was totally unaware of it (per wpbears explanation above). No biggie, just cant exceed a certain percentage of roaming vs non roaming..

This worked for me. One thing to note is my screen was really out of alignment after the import and reset. Nothing big, a quick calibration fixed it. Not sure if it's related or not. Using the Fun_key 1.5.2

Go to this link and see post #25: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=360452&page=3

Since the triangle will be gone, if you want to know if you are really roaming (like when I went to Canada) read the provider name in the top of the screen. If it isn't your provider (ex: I got Rogers in Canada instead of Cingular) then you are roaming.
