View Full Version : Add VOIP to Comm Manager (WM6)

Just for reference I am using the Most Beautiful edition rom.

Navigate to HKLM/Software/HTC/CommManager
Do these following steps... (without the quotes)

Change "SuppordedFunctions" to 9 (if only at 7, I will show how to add IR as well)

If you DO NOT have IR in your Comm Manager:
Add a new key and name it "7"
In that key, create a new string value and name it "Default" with the data being "IR"

If you already have IR, then add this to get VOIP:
Add a new key and name it "8"
In that key, create a new string value and name it "Default" with the data being "VOIP"

There you have it. Now you have 9 settings in the Comm Manager. I do not know exactly what it does yet, just wanted to post my findings. Someone can maybe clean this up a little and add it to the Wiki if they find it helpful.

I just enabled this and it does indeed give you an 'IP Phone' icon, plus if you click the settings there is an IP Phone option. Neither actually do anything except make it beep....

I just put a sniffer on to see if there was a DNS lookup for a SIP server or anything when you click the Icon, there isn't :( I assume this will be something that is provided with your GSM contract and will be pushed down to the phone via OTA. If you click Phone Options, then services and get the settings for Voice Mail & Test Messages there is an option now for 'Internet Voice Mail', this is greyed out though.

at least it's possibly one step closer to figuring out how to get it to work... or at least how to turn it on and off when it is working. :)

I just tested this on the PDAVIET3 WM6 ROM. This brings up the Error message:

Comm Manager only supports 7 Entries. -> does NOT work.
In order to find out what is causing this please let me know where to check the Version of the Comm Manager(already have a dumped pdaviet3 rom on my pc at home.) so I can compare it to the Version you have.
I hope we can get this VOIP Service figured out soon :)

On the other thread about the Internet Calling in WM6 thers is a link to the MSDN site. If you dig about on here you can find lots of information regarding this; I thought this was interersting:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb330889.aspx

Unfortunately I don't have a SIP server so all I can do is sniff the network and watch the phone attempt to connect to the SIP server....

My Comm Manager version is 1.3.2.0

I also have a copy of 1.0.3.0 which I believe is from the 2.25.11 cingular shipped rom.

The one in the linked thread now comes up with 8 functions at most. Has anyone got a rip of the Most Beautiful one?

Hmm that file isn't working for me, the 7 button that was integrated into Orwells worked with 7 max, the 8 button from the linked thread worked with 8 but that one just refuses to run, I'm on the clean WM6 ROM.

Great Find Trojan9x. It pushes us one more step closer to understanding the "Internet Calling" Feature.

@ TROJAN9x:

I tried adding these Registry settings on my HERMES with WM6 and it says that only 7 is supported. Do you have ny clue about HERMES and it's limitations or do you think there might be another setting for this?

But it works fine on my Wzards.

i noticed if your change the value from 9 to A it can do 10 but that seems to be the limitation it gives you an error though because I don't know what else you can put in for button 10. If you put anything bagger than A lets say you change the value to b it will error saying that the commanage can only support up to 10 buttons.

Change "SuppordedFunctions" to A. Where does this refrence the features?
It also seems that voip must be missing some additional files to be ran, that is why it "Beeps" when you fress it. I haven't tried this but if I sure you can also switch the order of the buttons if you change 0 through 8 for instance swaping the registry values 0 with 1 probably moves the button

please soft reset after using cabs. (not the reset button) hold the power button till the dialog comes up and press yes, then power back up again.

Same here ragor_ali, using WM6 Orwell's clean ROM. The 8 button file works found in another thread but none of these cabs work.

The 8 button is available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294831#8 and you need to change supported functions to 8 in the registry.

Guys,

Althought you get 8 buttons including IPphone, you still didn't get the function itself.
I can't figure out how to enable this feature!:(

How you guys are dealing with?
Is it working?

the cab files should work. they worked on my wizard. all they do is add the reg keys and replace the commmanager.exe with the one posted on page 1 of this thread. i'll test it again later..

Hi himcliff!
thanks for your comments but I still can't get ipphone feature. I got 8 button like yours after cab installation but not the feature. should we change a key in registry ?
no idea really!

the feature does nothing. it just adds the button. there is a thread going on trying to figure out how to get voip working on wm6 (if it even is possible).

For all those having problems, just start from the beginning of the thread and read. I attatched my version of the comm manager as well so everything you need should be in this thread. I am not sure if this works on the Hermes or not as I do not have one or know anyone with one. My advice is to make a backup copy of your current comm manager just in case this does not work for you. All the registry settings should be on the first page.

I just looked through the xml document in the cab file and compared it to what is already on my phone (remember, I have the MB edition rom) and all the files and settings are already on my phone.

well, upone further investigation, my voipphonecanvas.dll was 0 bytes where the one in that cab file was 128k.

There is a button to "datadisconnection" in commmanager (button 4 on my MB WM6)
I tried to "create" a 10th button to connect, but "dataconnection" isn't recognized (neither "dataconnect" nor "connect" nor "connection"). Maybe someone will have an idea, since it would be somehow practicle to be able to connect gprs/edge thru commmanager...

Well, doesn't just about every application that requires a data connection already initiate the connection?? For what reason would one need a button?

not all. the hacked version of aim doesnt do it. and a couple of other programs don't do it. id just like to be in total control of the dailing and disconnecting of gprs/edge.

try to see if GPS can be added. I would, but don't want to reset my phone at the moment. I was thinking this after I added the IP Phone button, but never got around to trying it. Don't forget you need to modify the number of allowed items to 10 if you try to add another button.

in fact, spbweather sometimes doesn't pick up the connection and I have to go into connection settings to load it manually.
So it would have been very convenient if I could manage to run edge connection thru CommManager...

You don't need to reboot.
I tried several settings even without getting out of total commander registry section.
I just modified keys and values and voila...when i next ran commmanager, all mods were applied.

I will try gps tonite

Okay, i think i did something stupid. I was carried away by those voip things in comm manager. I installed the green one, and that one is working just fine. But I also installed helmi's voip.cab, mentioned earlier in this thread. Now suddenly my mp3 ringtone doesn't work anymore. Also i can't get that voip.cab uninstalled. It simply hangs. I'm using the pdaviet2 rom.

Anyone?

you screwd up your device..

make a clean one again.. hard reset..

TheWizzard2203
06-03-2007, 01:34 PM
Okay, I managed to get the helmi's voip.cab file deinstalled, but the ringtone problem remains. And yes of course I know reinstalling the device is an option, but it's also the most easiest way to go. If a problem occurs, hop, reinstall the thing, hehe. I thought we tweakers were a bit more resourcefull on fixing things, actually ;)

Did anyone tried the VOIP button, after correctly configuring the service?
Maybe this VOIP button keeps the wireless lan on even after the phone stand by.
I say this because the button has a phone and the wireless symbol, so maybe it has to do with wifi+voip.
Maybe it routes the audio to the front speaker as well.

Yep, VOIP works, but the button doesnt do anything.
Would've been nice to have that button enable WIFI+VOIP at the same time.
