Even the new fancy colored ones are WM5.

Before flashing, bear in mind there are two hardware versions of the SPL with two different flash images - the imate software uses the imei to determine which file to extract. This is why some SPL's update to 1.08 and others 1.09 from the same flash software.

Take a look at this thread (http://www.modaco.com/content/i-mate-SPL-SPL-MoDaCo-com/257873/How-to-flash-i-Mate-SPL-firmware-from-memory-card/) to see how to flash the phone back from an image on the card, and get the right image before you start flashing the unknown :)

The truth is I never had to dump a ROM directly from a device and I don't know the exact procedure. I think you can try using pdocread (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=XdaUtils%2Fpdocread.exe)or grab_it (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=238945). Perhaps gvural can tell us how he dumped his ROM.

Thanks for coming to the forum, for extracting the rom on your device do the steps.

-Format and put a Micro-SD card (128MB or bigger) to your SPL
-create a folder called 2577 on the root
-copy the attached tool to this 2577 folder as autorun.exe
-insert the card
-It will show a progress bar at the bottom of the screen.
-When it is done it will beep
-This tool will create a file called dump.bin in the root of the SD card.
-Once all finished do not put the card back to SPL or any other WM device or it will rewrite the existing dump.

Then you can post the file to Rapidshare. Thanks in advance for sharing, you are really kind.:)

1st gives cannot create file error
2nd says cannot map 000000 and creates a zero bytes dump.bin on storage card.

The mini sd slot is under the battery and you have to run it mannualy or restart the spl with the card inserted.

Hi,

This is about how to extract your phones ROM

1) Connect your phone to computer and run Application Unlocker tool (Picture1)
2) Restart your phone, connect your phone to the computer
3) Use Itstools "Pdocread -l" command to see your ROMs and their addresses as shown on Picture2
4) Extract the ROMS as shown on Picture3, please notice the coloured circles to see where the parameters come from Picture2.
5) Now you can zip your roms and send them to http://rapidshare.com

It is about dumping the extracted ROM
-Use imgfstools to dump the ROM, see pictures 1,2 and 3
-Use Package tool to see brief info about the ROM, pictures 4 and 5

Pictures attached belong to a WM5 ROM, it works fine with WM6 as well

With imgfstools it is possible to add remove files to the DUMP folder

I have an SPL with WM6. Unfortunately, none of those application unlock mechanisms work. RegeditSTG2 won't work either ... most likely because it is signed by HTC, not by tech faith wireless or i-mate.

The Microsoft SCM shows that it is a two-tier prompt configuration type, with grant manager role to Operator_TPS (128). As such, the Microsoft SDK cert.cab won't run even manually installed, and I'm not sure what else to try.

Any other ideas?

It seems to patch HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies and I know works on the SPL WM5 so must be signed or something.

I just gave up with the SPL and bought an E51, vast improvement - I hoped WM6 would sort out all the problems I had with the SPL but with no guarantee it was time to move on.

Take a look over on http://spl.modaco.com, the ROMs have been posted for G3 and G4. I've flashed my G3 SPL with it no problems, seems a little faster and in the main is in English although some of the add-on programmes are in Chinese still. The updater programme is available and also the *.IPL files for loading onto the flash card and flashing by power-up keypress.

If you have firmware version 1.09 (or 1.04) that probably points to it being a G4. If you have firmware 1.03 or 1.08 then it's a G3.

You need a FAT formtted flash card with the two DIP files WMIPL.DIP and WMUPDAT.DIP (rename them if need be).

You power on by holding down the 6 button and pressing and releasing the power button. You should see a blue box appear and you can then release the 6 button to see the box fill as the firmware is loaded.

I found if you press and hold * whilst in text message prep, then select 4, it shows "en" in the top right. Then when typing words though the numbers appear, the words do also. The required word can be selected using up/down and select.

The # key didn't complete the word and enter a space, rather it expands the choice of words, so 8378 for test then # shows testing, testament etc.

Seems a bit of a back step that you have to complete the word and then enter a space?

I did not created these, but downloaded them from i-mate and MoDaCo and made them easier to install. These will only work on G4, which shows up as 1.09 (not 1.08) in the About screen. When I installed wm5 from i-mate, I found the expanded temp file and then used it to piece together the PC install for wm6.1, which previously was an SD install found on MoDaCo. I have found two bugs that were already identified on MoDaCo -- 1) The charge light does not work when the phone is on; and 2) the key shortcuts to launch WMP and IE seem to be missing. If anyone still has wm5, could you please find them and upload them? These files may be named Short_IE and Short_WMP as they are in Tornado. The post upgrade file has app unlock and t9.

When I bought this phone it had WM6 already installed. It works great, and is a way better performer than both the Blackjack & Blackjack II. Is there any major benefit to upgrading to 6.1?

Sorry, I never had WM6.0 to play with. At your own risk, I would backup everything and try it. If it does not work and you cannot revert back, hard reset and restore backup.

If it exists, it most likely would be in directly in the Windows folder.

Tough call on WM6.0 shipped versus WM6.1 developed. I did not notice a performance increase when I went from WM5.0 to WM6.1. Though, I have overclocked 6.1, which now is almost as fast as my Tornado. In addition, 6.1 has much more functionality over 6.0. The slider homescreen is a must for me, and can be installed on 6.0.

and it looks like he cooked the new WM6.1 ROM V2 Bate2 080619 also. Hopefully he'll post it here too. It looks like the button issue has been fixed (if I'm reading the translation right, it's a bit garbled).

Great, I will add my findings to his thread. I was able to download several roms today though not the one I wanted, WM6.1 ROM V2 Bate2 080619. As soon as they upload, I will post them on Alechy's thread.
