I am using wmxl 0.20 and radio rom 1.35.00.11
my wifi connection is slower than my gprs connection (edge)
previously it was much better (with original rom and radio)
could it be because of a setting (wifi b/g ?),
or because of radio rom / os rom ?
What can I do to understand the problem ?
Mine is actually quicker than 3g and quicker than it was under WM5

Hi
Anyone tested anthaVPN 6.1 with XDA 20.1 and got i working?
Or any other VPN client?
It installs fine, runs but so far I have not been able to connect to my
work network. The problem is that after a few connection attemts it seems
to corrupt the dataconnection. When this happens I'm not able to connect at all via GPRS/E/U, not via explorer or any other browser or what ever.
I have to do a Master reset to fix the problem..
anyway, just wonder if there are any other usable VPN clients out there for WM6?

Check Point client works...need to have a Check Point gateway. Actaully pretty nice...transitions from wireless to GSM seamlessly.

I have some questions about 0.2.
I know that I should search for this in these 2 threads about new rom, but the threads are too long to look for these answers.
Besides I think that these are some common questions and maybe we should add these to the first page faq.
1- are there some skins missing ? In phone application , my original wm5 "speed dial" and "call history" screens were much better. now with wm6 0.2 OS it's very plain skin. how can I change that ?
2- How can I activate keyboard backlight sensor ?
2A-in settings->buttons->backlight setting
3- is there a way to add windows media player pugin to today screen ? (it was nice on my original rom, but with wm6 I lost it)
4- My extended rom is there but it was not activated after the rom update. How can I activate extended rom ?
5- when I use windows live messenger, I need to use gprs. Why can't I use wifi for live messenger ?
thanks for your answers.

1. Those are probably Carrier Customs
2.Setting...Buttons...Backlight..check the box.
3. I didnt use it before, I dont know
4. You cant auto run it. Use HTweakC and unlock and mount then run the CAB manually after each HARD reset.
5. You should be able to use Wifi, it works with MSN pocket messenger.

Here is a question.
Why on my today screen does is say Calendar and ActiveSync on the bottom left and right above my soft buttons, and when I press ActiveSync, it loads up my contacts?
Plus, if I try to change what they do, it does not stick. Any thoughts?
Thanks,

I have the same problem like CRUDE say , I spent lot of time reading the forum
If the structure of the forum make like a tree by topic , will be so easy follow up each topic . I read so much here , Iīm very confused If I will install or not .
For eg: issue memory , I follow up this , and I donīt find the correct answer
If for example this topic , would structured like a tree will be much faster and easy follow this issue
Khypur thankīs a lot for your work to this community
In the style of the announcement topic:
Q: Kyphur you are such a Guru, why is it you've got ten pages of bold oversized text on each announcement topic?
If you think that people will read bold text more, sorry - a FAQ with 50 lines and each line in bold annoys the reader MUCH faster than careful usage of attributes. Actually, I decided to not install it since I couldn't stand reading it all that way.
No offense intended, and a big thanks for all your work though!
I have one chatter thread question ;) : does the different "Free Storage Memory" actually mean that the storage space the user has later on to install software is affected by what is installed in the ROM? I thought that I had read that all this pre-installed stuff wouldn't.

I feel like such a noob...
I have a stock 8525 that I SuperCID unlocked today. Everything worked just fine. I then installed the v0.20.1 rom from here (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Cooked_ROMs) and on the first pass it got to 77% complete on both the PC and the phone.
The rom updater was smart enough to know the install failed and ran me through the recovery process. I disconnected the phone, removed the battery, waited a few minutes, and tried to run through the install again - just as prompted by the rom updated. No go.
If I boot the phone I get an HTC splash screen and that's it. I can boot into the tricolor boot loader by holding down the two keys on each side of the unit. Running the updater from either the HTC splash screen or the tricolor screen doesn't help.
At boot to the HTC splash screen, I get the following briefly displayed codes on the screen:
Bottom of left side of screen
M05
S04
B06
Bottom of right side of screen
R 1.16.00.00
G 32.53.7018.01H
D3.22.0.0
The R & the G lines above briefly display and then all codes disappear and I'm left with the HTC Splash Screen:

You need to install a factory ROM like the cingular one for the 8525 or the real HTC one for the TyTN. The way the WM XDA Live ROM loads the software is different and can't be done through the bootloader screen. But as long as you can get to the bootloader screen your good :). Get into the tricolor screen and run the original firmwares... then try this firmware again once the original is loaded again.
I hope someone can help me though... a friend of mine got a TyTN and I put this firmware on their unit for them. Everything worked fine. He decided now he wants the internet plan and also wants to tether to his laptop. I do that using Verizon and my xv6700. He had the Tmobile unlimited internet plan added for 29.99 a month. I told him to add it under his connections settings.. it asked for an access point... I looked and found this
internet2.voicestream.com.....TMobile Internet ($29.99)
is this right? Does he just put that for the access point and leave username and password blank? Once connected, he should be able to open ICS (Internet Sharing app) on his TyTN with this ROM and connect it to his laptop?
Is there a number he needs to input somewhere?.. a registry setting to enable? Anything in that HTC tweak program to enable? ... thanks for all your help and hard work.

You say that my original phone skin was a carrier custom, but it wasn't like that. it was a plain nice phone skin. now with wm6 I have a very very plain visual. it does not fit to the rest of the os.
is everyone using the same ? how can it be changed ?
For the extended rom software, I mounted the extended rom. but there are so much files in it. which one should I run ? there is a setup.exe , is this it ?
is there no one else who is missing the media player today plugin ?

There are loads of posts on these threads about the tytn dialler skins - look in the hermes wiki
The extended rom will have an autorun or similar and a few cabs - each will do various things depending on the brand.

since running this ROM, my speeds in IE have increased dramatically!
on the AKU 3.3 ROM, I would get speeds of 150-175 kbit/sec (using wap.cingular and the wireless.cingular.com proxy).
NOW, I get 210-220 kbit/sec using same APN and proxy.

I want to have v0.30 out by the end of March. I'm in the final stages of buying a house here (still hoping nothing goes wrong) so that might delay it.
I believe all of the big issues with v0.20 have been addressed except:
Having a nice clean Video Calling Installer & PTT Installer.
I don't think we will be seeing a fix for the "WiFi On" link where there shoudl be a "WiFi Off" link, this appears to be a programmer error that is common to all WM6 builds (even Wizard)
The Memory futz-up was a goof on my part, I apologize for that (can't believe it slipped through the Beta Testing).
I think that in order to make v0.30 as good as we can get it, leaving v0.20 in the wild for a couple of week is a good thing.
The pre-Beta Build of v0.30 I am currently running has the Radio off after Power Down issue fixed so that it defaults to Radio On!
I think I know what the problem with hearts is, just need to test my theory.
There has still been soem talk about the "branding" of this Rom but I will not remove it. This is my way of dedicating the Rom to the community. Notice that nowhere in the rom will you find mention of me, just XDA and I think if you don't appreciate XDA enough to tolerate the slight branding then you can easily use another Rom.
Honestly once my spare 8525 arrives this week it will be much easier for me to check things in v0.20 while continuing to work on v0.30.
I think for v0.30 I will only add "Task Manager & SMS Backup" as we get the most bang for our efforts with those two apps. The additional game will be made avaliable as a single Cab File.
It will also have a Custom version of HTweakC which will allow us to have our device customized to our liking on Hard Reset automatically.
The HSDPA Icon Fix will be native to v0.30 and the SIM Security Pad DIlar Skin will be fixed.
I will again edit the OS Version Number to allow BB Connect and Good Link to install and work With v0.30 but will also add the fix for Sling Player.
I still want to get us larger storage memory (can't increase Program Memory without hardware mod) but that is not the top of my list.
I will also be providing a special thanks to everyone who has donated to this project and/or served as a Beta Tester on previous versions.

Dude, your famous.
This is what a Dutch ICT-related newssite wrote about you.
I ran it trough a translater, so text will be buggy:
Pirates bring out improved version Windows mobile 6.0 Friday 2 March 2007, 09.31 - a group hackers an adapted version of Windows has brought out mobile 6.0. The hackers to claim that improves their version is then original of Microsoft.
Two weeks still no after the introduction of the new version of Windows mobile 6.0 the product has been cracked. A group hackers has got according to their ' virginal version ' of the control system for pda's and smartphones in hands, has cracked and has improved. The cracked version of Windows mobile has been optimised for use on the HTC ' Hermes ', of the most popular smartphones of the moment. The Hermes, a product of HTC that more than 80 per cent of all smartphones worldwide make, in the Netherlands by among others Orange and T-Mobile are offered. According to ' Kyphur ', a code name of one of the hackers, is the version of Windows mobile, brought out by them, 6.0 more stably than the version which is provided standard with the HTC Hermes. As a reason for that he conducts all adaptations specifically to that for a certain mobile operator have been removed. Also the list with provided programmes has been considerably cleaned. I have been very selective in the programmes which sit in the cracked Windows mobile. It are perhaps not always the bests in their type, but they are always small and well useful. Also five programmes with the same functionality in these release do not sit, or two is sufficient. Moreover this gives space to add Kyphur himself programmes thus. In the cracked Windows mobile also already first updates have been processed and a number of modifications in the register have been carried out. Thus it is with these ' release ' more easily change gear between normal and the profile quietly. Also easier niet-digitaal is signed install applications. Their version of Windows mobile the hackers live ' and speaking ' Windows mobile XDA have meanwhile called version 0.10. according to Kyphur later still more gehackte versions of DC will end up. Kyphur are tevens moderator are on the discussion forum of the XDA developers Internet site and the only that source of the version of Windows, used by the hackers, knows mobile. He will release soon script with which he has cracked the original version and that everyone then can use for itself further adaptations to the product at.

For me it worked this way.
paired the devices
On PPC set it up as dialup networking and ticked the box (I'm not even sure if that is necessary)
on the laptop, when it asked what type of device I guessed and set it up as a connection "personal ad-hoc device"
then on the PPC run the "internet sharing" prog, selected BT Pan, the gprs connection started automatically(using cingular gprs, not media net), and the connection was made. I'm surfing, checking email, etc. It works fine under USB also, just select USB instead of BT Pan and Active Sync stops and the gprs connection starts up. I was suprised how easy it worked.

@Kyphur
Thanks to all of your hard work, I've made the plunge and have marketed my K-Jam on eBay to dive into the TyTn world. If it wasn't for your ROM, I would have waited until HTC came out with the equivalent phone with WM 6.0 preloaded.
Again, I'll do my best to not be a lurker, but rather contribute to the forums and assist in debugging as best I can.
The device I bought is pre-loaded with another cooked ROM, but I'll probably wait for XDA Live 0.30 to re-flash.
Speaking of flashing, is there now a working loader under Vista?
All the best and I'll be sending a small thank you via your paypal link.
Good work and looking forward to contributing.

Noticed a few issues with the XDA Live v0.20 while using it the last couple of weeks:
- Screen stays on after a missed call
Got called last night, phone rang a few times, then the caller hang up. But the screen stayed on for like 15~20min. Seen this happen before.
- Sometimes can't send text messages
I have bad reception at home so I sometimes get the popup a message couldn't be send. But when this happens the messages stays in the Outbox.
Last night I got a different popup that said sending the message had failed and it was moved to the Drafts folder. After 10min of trying to send the message i the yard, where I have full reception, I finally had to reset my phone.

Hey there, first post on XDA though I've been reading and reading lately.
I wanted to share my experience with this ROM. I'm in IT and have no fear of doing just about anything to workstations, servers, etc., but for some reason I've always feared bricking my phones. That said, I've just upgraded to 0.21 on my 8525 (with Acrobat because I'm feeling too lazy to get an alternate  ) and it was *easy*. This is the first time I've ever "unlocked" a device, let alone flashed a rom.
I followed the guide by MrVanx found here: http://www.mrvanx.myzen.co.uk/hermes_guide/wmxl/index.html
Took his advice and upgraded the bootloader before doing anything more serious. I skipped the radio upgrade as I don't (yet) want to get into that. Both the bootloader upgrade and flashing to the new XDA Live ROM were painless and didn't take very long at all.
Granted I've only spent about an hour poking around in WM6 here, but so far it seems generally faster and MUCH more responsive than the default WM5 ROM that came loaded on the Cingular 8525. I'm loving the task manager in particular that's included here. :) So many little things I've seen already that normally I'd have to install 3rd party apps to achieve. So many little tweaks that make the whole user experience much more pleasing.
My thanks to XDA-Developers, kyphur and mrvanx in particular for the great work they've done.
Now to go figure out how to fix the hard keyboard - seems the keys are not all mapped correctly, but I'm sure I've seen a fix already posted. Just have to dig it out again :)
