Here is where everyone can have general chatter and conversation about WMXL v0.20.x
To be honest, I'll spend most of my time in the REPORT ISSUES (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296126)thread but please don't clutter that thread. I will check in here from time to time.

Expected release 8pm GMT -6. Thats around 1am GMT+10 (THU) for me. Time to make an espresso.
On a serious note, your efforts are appreciated.
Now if my wife can stop nagging me it will be the icing on the cake.

Thanks for the work!!!!
Do you have plans to release a clean release without phm and all the other apps installed....
(just pulling down 0.20 now!! Will test the sms voicemail notification issue to see if exists in this rom..)

I'm to be the first one.
Downloaded. Installing.
Got the ROM, now all I need is to get back to England, collect my repaired phone and start playing again...
Thanks for the great work - suggest you get some well deserved rest before all the questions start coming in (can I flash back to WM5 etc etc) :D

I don't remember WM5 having this but yes apparently with WM6 you can increase Free Storage Memory by stripping out files.
I noticed this when after I embedded Adobe Acrobat. That is why I released two Roms. I actually flashed an older (RTM) WM6 Rom which had an insane amout of Free Storage Memory, like 62mb but there were no office files and I didn't bother looking into that else was missing...
Still planning on a clean Rom. I want to let this one run for a few days first to see if I broke anything new in it ;) . The Beta team didn't find anything major or new but we only ran on it for a few days so that you guys could get your hands on it.
does the different "Free Storage Memory" actually mean that the storage space the user has later on to install software is affected by what is installed in the ROM? I thought that I had read that all this pre-installed stuff wouldn't.

For some reason It will not let me flash my T-Mobile UK Vario2 to your 0.20.
The program detects my current ROM, then when I click "Update" it says "Verifying the information on your Hermes" for around 30 seconds. After that an error prompt saying "Error 260 : Update Error"....
Any Ideas?

Really simple to install, nice clean prompts and all the right warnings!!
Voicemail text notification still broke (wasnt expecting for it to be fixed though..)
Thanks for sliding in the sync.ico that works fine with Vista!!
I'm going to try some of the cabs from the orange wm5 ext rom to see if I can figuire out what does the vm txt management.... I've not seen this with WM5 without an EXTrom so I'm not convinced I'll find anything....

Pushmail functionality with exchange server extremely important for me. I see it was reported before problem accessing exchange server. Is it fix in this release? Can anyone confirm that mail, calendar and contact can be sync with Exchange 2003 using pushmail technology? I want to upgrade to this baby, but can not afford to lose exchange server pushmail. Thanks

Wow.. esay install..
Getting the device to show up via activesync was easy this time.. Had to go into Settings -> Connections and uncheck "Advanced Networking" on the USB to PC.
Thanks for the ROM!
Now, to play with it more!

Could you please confirm the status of your 3G connection by doing a speedtest?? There has been a bug where the 3G/UMTS icon is shown even though you are infact connected to GSM/GPRS. Goto the bandwidthplace speedtest (www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest) on your TyTN adn post back here what you get. :)
no i was saying that even the operator info when wirless plugin is enabled doesnt say umts either, i suspect the cell site may be down as my other fone is also saying 3g aswell...just to check ill flash back to vannilla to confirm, the icon color is really me main concern;)

The 'UMTS' part is added to the network name when you are connected to a 3G(aka UMTS) network, this is disabled in XDA-Live by default but...
By setting the following registry key to 1 (instead of 0):
HKLM/Software/OEM/PhoneSetting/Enable3GLongNamePrefix
Your operator info will now have the 'UMTS' line before your network name when connected to 3G.
You could change it to add '3G' or 'zbee' by simply edditing the following:
HKLM/Software/OEM/PhoneSetting/LongNamePrefix
By default it says UMTS, lol i might change mine to 3G hehe.
This may be the same case with Vanilla ROM aswell.
Huh time to test this ROM now...one question only...it could be flashed from Vista or just from XP?

I had few problems with the previous release... and I can confirm tht this one works as well (hopefully better)...
My speedtest results comes in at 605.7 k/s - though I'm not really sure what speed I should have, I know this is definitely a 3G connection and its far better than GPRS, so I'm happy!!!
Right then, lets load this baby and see what she's like ;)

Sounds like you have 3G for sure, but not HSDPA. T-mobile does have HSDPA coverage here in the UK so you could give customer services a bell and get it enabled on your account?!

I'm at my office now, I have my eniter RomKitchen on a USB drive (gotta love VMWare) but I really need to get caught-up on some work today.
As I get free time, I'll gather my notes on regkeys and which .dlls you can point to for the Band Icons. Heck we might even be able to transplant an icon for one of the AKU 3.3 Roms to get you looking right. To be honest though, I'm more concerned with if you are connecting and getting expected speeds.
There's talk of an application that will basically replace the Operator Customization (and do a lot more) so you can preload your extended rom (or storage card) with things you find useful and automate a lot of the set-up that is required when you hard-reset. Of course this will work with any Rom but the author is honoring my by considering to debut the product in WMXL v0.30!!!

ok i think this hsdpa iconenable key should work in wm6 too:
just creat in
HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\RIL
EnableHSDPAIcon dword:1
i think i'm in a place where the reception not perfect for hsdpa... because of that sometimes the H appears and then 3g is back... in the bubble is also the same thing... hsdpa and then back to 3G (or what ever you enter... like explained above)

have just run a few speed test's
when i use speed test from here (1mb) http://dslreports.com/mspeed
i became really bad speeds reporter (around 300-400) with HSDPA
when i use the speed test that offers my company for our costumers
http://kmu.telekom.at/kundenbereich/Internettools/speedtest.php
i get around 1000 this is quite good even i had more... but my office is directly under a aerial mast and because of that it can be that i can't use full speed... this mast's beam's horizontaly...
also found 2 small "bugs"
1. in the aero theme it looks like that some of the text colors are set to the background color ...
2. XCSdM Bluetooth Voice Command isn't working anymore... when i want to save i became an error and then app ends without saving ... because that i can't use the bluetooth headset alternatively my bluetooth carradio with voicecommand... (what works fine... (german version))
mybe anyone can confirm my sights...

Hi,
If I am understanding correctly you are looking for a H icon when connected to HSDPA?
If so yo need to add "EnableHSDPAIcon" and set it to value 1 under
HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\RIL
That should display "H" icon....
Hope thats what you were looking for
cheers
Sorry didnt see that someone already answered that.....Sorryyyyyy
as for GPRS disconect you can use BandSwitch to togle between umts/gps and also set it to disconect if idle.
as for manualy disconecting the conection use SPBGPRS Monitor it has a disconect button.
Hope it helps

I sifted through the wiki and other threads but I am still confused:
Can just run this file I downloaded and it will update my Vario II or do I need to do stuff in advance (make superCID or do something to my Bootloader or ROM)?
There are so many manuals that still use confusing terminology.
ps what is remove safety PIN?

I am currently downloading the .2 via torrent. I will seed until it has proliferated. The current download speed is pretty poor, so anyone that can seed please do.
I have installed .20 and all seems good so far. I will seed until at least 2:1
If you have downloaded v.21 and/or and CAB files, please create and post a d/l mirror or torrent. Thanks!

M$ was pretty insistant about their IP and the Optional Apps zip contains both Windows Live! Mobile and Pocket MSN which technically fall under their IP. I think we should be safe so I'll do it and post the link.

When adding the EnableHSDPAIcon and value what type of Value is it?
I have been trying to get this to work, but have had little success.
Hi,
If I am understanding correctly you are looking for a H icon when connected to HSDPA?
If so yo need to add "EnableHSDPAIcon" and set it to value 1 under
HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\RIL
That should display "H" icon....
Hope thats what you were looking for

Thanks for all your work and ingenuity. I am wondering after following this thread for the last 4 plus hours, should we, who haven't upgraded yet, upgrade or wait because there is something you have seen you are going to fix. I am not talking about version 3 which I'm sure will be at least a week :) If I take the plunge will I have to upgrade to another released 2.0 version later on tonite when you get home and start your work on making M$ like indifferent?
Once again thanks for all your hard work.

Quick question I don't see answered anywhere else.
I know XDA_Live does include an Extended ROM.
And from what I gather XDA_Live does not even use the Extended ROM.
So...
Should I delete the Files in the Extended Rom?

WM6 has a new version of smart dialer built into the dialer. PTT and VIdeo Call actually downgrade Smart Dialer to WM5 version.
Notice that you can see your recent call and contact above the dialpad. that is the new smart dialer. clicking hide keypad expands the smart dialer.
Now that I have Live .20 going how do I get ptt going. mostly im just trying to get wm smartdialer installed. Thanks all.

Hi Guys,
Firstly, congratulations to Kypher and the team for such a quick turnaround.
I've experienced a strange issue whereby no wireless networks are found (even after resets) with my Wireless on 0.21, which for some reason is not happening on 0.20.
For now I'm happy to stick with 0.2, but thought you'd appreciate knowing.

Right now there are two different PTT installs in the works, one is the standard integrated with the dialer and the other is a Java applet that will work independent of the dialer (many issues to over come there but it would allow PTT & Video Call to work together.
If you want WM5 Smart Dialer then I recommend either the Video call fix from the WMXL v0.10 Release thread, get on the the ETEN dialers with Smart Dialer or find the "Ghetto Dialer" in the Wizard Forum. Any of these three should give you WM5 Smart Dialer.
Oh man I need sleep.....:o

Not to be rude but "using the following cab files from a previous extended rom and the following ZombieNexus skin" is pretty clear indication that you need to install all of the cabs (i think there are 3) in the zip file and then install the second file which is a skin cab file.

Kyphur, firstly, thankyou to you and all contributors for all your work on this. We really appreciate it.
Would it be possible to add some instructions to your ROM info on the 1st page to help people upgrade their Radios? I think it is important that all people testing this rom have the best radio suited to it. This would eliminate some of the connection issues people are clogging the forum with.
We need to bug fix the rom, but connection problems are more likely to be radio related than rom related.
Maybe even bundle the radio into the next rom release?
What do you think?
Thanks again buddy.

I hesitate to bundle a Radio Rom because some here have expressed hesitation at upgrading their Radio due to the whole 1.08 BL issue (I know SSPL defeats that but I would rather work the rom than defend the choice of including Radio.
If you want to start a poll, ask if I should roll a radio into v0.30 then I will do as the users request.

First... THANK YOU KYPHUR....and thanks to all of the XDA_Dev community...
What I think Squuiid was getting at, and what I would rather see as well, is...
A) if you are having trouble (Radio Related) pls post which Radio version you are using.
B) If there is one or more radios which work better then others with XDA_Live then just to post the recommendations...
i.e. "Having a radio earlier then 1.27 causes connection icons to be inaccurate"

Sometimes it isnt so easy because of how the forums are constructed, when you search, you dont get the post that contains the answer, the answer is somewhere in 4 to 6 threads with sometimes up to 50-75 posts, it can sometimes take half the night to find 1 answer. I dont know about you but I have a life outside this forum to. You took the time to write a message to Manzione why couldent you give him the right answer instead???? cos if you had done that, the answer had been on one more place=easier to find for the next searcher.
sometimes even if you find the answer it can be a little hard to understand for a non techi then it is good to see 2 answers to compare. Be kind and help people instead write nonsens answers.

And about your company, if they keep asking the same thing, give them the same thing. Placing a post link if you know where it is is not so hard. I'm certain the asking part doesn't know where it is, or your company's members know that they already have the solution....
And kyphur, I'll test it, now that I've the answers.... But, congratulations for helping us with it!!!!

Yes, the answer would have been here and in 10 posts from here, we would have had the same questions......... I don't want to waste my time answering people with answers made by others.
I have a live outside this forum and all I can say is that when I have a question, I first look for the answer before asking it.... Of course, it can take many hours to find an answer but well, isn't that the purpose of a forum ?
Obviously, we don't have the same way to think. I'm using Internet to find answers ... and most of the time, I'm finding them on forums like this one.
I have been on this forum since 2003 and only posted 26 messages (including this one). Most of the time, it was to thank others for their job and answers to questions I had.....
Sorry to have shocked you but it's the way I see the things..... most people are too lazy to read a wiki or search for answers.... and I don't have time to waste for them.
I can see that manzione (Italian ? I'm French.... So you see, it's not my language at all also) has found his answers so I'm glad for him.
According my company users, they are too lazy to search for answers available in their homepage pointing at the Intranet.... It's not a matter of placing a link somewhere.

I'm not going to judge anyone since I'm a noob on this site too but, in the first page, kyphur the GREAT answers some very common questions in like his 3rd post. It has this:
Q: If I upgrade to WMXL can I downgrade to an official Rom from my carrier?
A: Of course you can. WMXL DOES NOT HAVE A RADIO ROM so your Radio & Radio BootLoader are not touched. If you are not SuperCID you can use a Rom from your carrier to downgrade or you can use SSPL.
That to me says that one does not need to have SuperCID in the device in order to use WMXL.
Now, had you read that very first page then you would've never needed an answer for your first question. As for your 2nd question, if you want to be able to go back to WM5 then your best bet would be to find a good backup program somewhere online and use whatever means you want to obtain a copy, be that money or other, and create a backup. My experience with these backup programs is that they're not solid. I guess this way if you don't like WMXL then you can re-install your Official ROM and then restore from the backup.
Just a bit of advice for people. Hit us noobs with whatever shit you want but at least answer the question or post a link to it. We don't mean to offend or even waste your time. And I'm sure the community here doesn't want to have to put up with flaming wars. Peace. And kyphur, you rule man. I hope you get some tonight

So, I have upgraded since early this morning, here Eastern time.
Had no problems, except that memory leak but I changed the two registry entries. Memory went up but to only about 21-23megs.
So far I have not encountered any other problems whatsoever after playing around with it for a most of the day. No hangs and no issue moving the data back from my Sync.
Not that I was expecting any problems. If could wager I would say that it feels a minuscule amount slower than the Vanilla Rom but still faster and smoother than WM5.
We are talking miliseconds here, and could only be really felt if you used the TyTN the way I do. Which is basically for almost everything.
I really like the ROM. Good jump over old WM5 and an excellent job.
My piece:
Unlocked HTC TyTN.

Kyphur,
I'm afraid I miss smth.
WMXL v0.20 uses my original Base Rom. Please note that the Vanilla Rom is derived from the same Base Rom as I have been using. The big difference is that I spent a lot of time sifting through the Rom files sorting what to delete whereas the Vanilla Rom, while good, has had a little too much trimmed off in some areas while junk has been left standing in others. Another difference is that I have changed a few files in WMXL v0.20 so that it can support Cingular's PTT.
and
WMXL v0.20 no longer uses the Vanilla Rom as it's base. I have been given the okay to release using my Original Base Rom.

v0.10 used the vanilla rom that was released on the forums as a base. Basically, when the rom was released, kypher got his hands on it as did someone else. That someone else supposedly did a hack job on the rom taking out crucial elements. This new rom was hacked by kypher in a much more suitable manner. So yes, vanilla and this new rom are based on the same thing, its just that the new one was better made and not a rush job.
what would be nice is a vannila done by kypher, with just a regeditor and the basic fixes including ext rom unlocked, and leave it niece and clean so people can install what they want, im also a minimulist

The program detects my current ROM, then when I click "Update" it says "Verifying the information on your Hermes" for around 30 seconds. After that an error prompt saying "Error 260 : Update Error"....

I don't want to distract others with a public debate as they seem to get quite heated, I was going to respond privately but instead I'll ask everyone to respectfully not jump on this from either side please.
I don't know what your definition of "Loads of unwanted stuff is". There are simply a few small helper apps embedded designed to make it easier for you to upgrade.
Yes, the Registry has been changed. While some of the WM5 fixes work many don't (anyone want to start documenting them in the Wiki?).
Since we can now clearly see that embedding apps into the Rom does not give us the Storage Memory savings that WM5 Rom saw I will be changing that part of WMXL for v0.30. Focus will be on getting the maximum amount of Free Storage Ram for you and giving you a way to have YOUR FAVORITE STUFF installed automatically after Hard Reset (even on the first boot after flashing if you follow pre-configuration instructions). There will always be a package of WMXL Recommended Apps which include the Core (SMS Backup, Task Manager, etc) HTweakC XDA Live Edition and Ringer Mode will remain embedded.
Main focus remains (and has always been) a stable implimentation of WM6. There seems to be some issues with the Networking Implimentation so we need to look at that
Feedback is not only appreciated but specifically requested and desired. I will however ask that you not be negative. Instead of saying "Too much embedded things I don't want" ask for "Clean Rom without so much Embedded" the tone is a lot different.
I have read many refer to this as "My Rom" but please I don't think of it that way. To me this is XDA Dev's Rom. I'm here to make something the community wants and needs. Work with me in that regard, please.

Have you installed third party apps? If so, are they on the storage card?
Did you run orange customisations cabs?
I had a few slowdowns and freezes with 0.10 that I think were due to one or both of the above. So this time, I installed SPB Pocket Plus 3.1 and WIndows Live Messenger both onto the device and only run copilot live from the Storage card when I need it. My device has never been so quick! Have you checked available memory as well? Its worth running the HSDPA and Mem Cache cab.

I'd love to do that, but since my phone insurance company insist on having my useless piece of melted plastic thats a no-go im afraid :P

I know it was slingbox player issue in 1.0 release. In your description for 2.0 relese you mentioned that ATI DLL replaced, but I still can not run SlingBox. Any progress on that, have anyone been able to run slingbox this version?
It say it found device, connecting to it and then message can not connect.
Thanks
ATI video, the issue in Slingplayer seems to be audio codec.

This starts the program (aka cingy manner mode) that allows you to press & hold the comm manager button and toggle between vibrate and normal volume.

We need to know from Slingbox Tech support what codecs it requires so we can ensure they are all included in WM6.
They wouldnt tell me. But I think it was becasue the guy I talked too was a stupid call center guy, he was programed to read off a screen a preformed answer. I tried slingcommunity and since NO ONE seems to have WM6 they dont care to discuss what codecs are required either. I guess it is like Vista right now, no one is buying or has it so most people dont care about WM6.

@ kyphur.. Just a quick question about one of the themes you've posted.. Where did you find DoCoMo TransOrg? It is my TransOrb theme.. I don't care but what is DoCoMo doing with it?
Just a little Question:
Is there a possibility to display the Date and Time not as the first Item on the Homescreen?
Just now, Windows wants Date&Time as first Item.
So i have PhoneAlarm as the second one, but Phonealarm would fit seamless to the startbar if i could place it as first item.
It's not a real issue, so i didn't post in the other thread.

You can change the position of almost everything in today. I use phone alarm at top too.
Go to settings, then click on TODAY, swith to the ITEMS tab (below), and select PHONE ALARM and then click on MOVE UP until it reach top :)

Have someone find a way to disable the annoying 'click' sound? :)
No, i can't.
The box "Move down" for Date&Time is grey and the Box "Move up" at Phone Alarm either.
I can move every item to the second Place, bus Date&Time won't go from the first one :7

just disable day & time! if you use Wisbar Advance 2 you can have day&time on the same space at top bar (visible on every application) and plus you can add a function when click the clock (i set the dropdown of COPY & PASTE menu, very useful).
So there is no possibility to move Date&Time one position down without using third Party Apps?

Kyphur,
I have one question about that ROM :
Do you have any of the reported issues with the original ROM that was provided by your source ?
Thanks

just look inside the registry... here are all today apps listed... edit there the position... to know what is what just play a little bit around with the arrengment of the items in today settings...
Can you give me a hint, where to look in the registry?
Edit:
I found the part where the Today Items are listed.
But Date&Time is not listed! Everything else is there, even Skype and phonealarm.
And PhoneAlarm ist set to "Order 0", so i assume it's at the top nevertheless Date&Time is at Position1

Does anyone know any good free today screen launchers that will work with the new ROM? I have been using SPB Pocket Plus but it seem a little buggy with the new ROM.

Just wanted to say thanks to Kypher. WM6 is much better than WM5. Not only that, he made it so easy to download and even through a few suprises into it (ie. HTweakC)! I really appreciate it, as I was tempted to to switch from my 8525 to WM6 after testing it out on a p4390. Thanks again, your the man!

Does anyone know exactly what the HTweakC "Increase Battery Life" tweak changes in the registry? The battery life on v.20 is killing me..

I use O2 plus 2.3 on XDA Live, it has a small memory footprint it works fine with any network, look at this link the cab files for installation are further down the page:-

Would be great - do you have any differences in mind compared to the Autostart-Utility in ExtRom?
At the moment, it's ok for me to edit the Config.txt for my needed Apps (afaik the CABs to install may even be on Storage Card), maybe you have a better approach :)
