I know thunderhawk may be the best as far as viewing webpages, is there anything else that comes close?

Picsel browser is the best I've used. NetFront is meant to be great I hear.

On a QVGA device, without frames and copy/paste support, maybe. Otherwise, particularly if you have a VGA device, go for something else; for example, Opera Mobile or, to a lesser degree, the PIE + new (!) PIEPlus 2.2 combo OR NetFront 3.4 TP.

Please see my previous articles & comparisons of all these browsers so that you'll see what their particular strengths / weaknesses are and how they compare; these articles can all be found here in the forum.

pieplus works good for me. minimo is more than my device likes to handle (plus bad bookmark support).

Yup, Minimo runs pretty slow on some models / ROM versions.

Minimo is very slow to load but once it has, it is fine on my orbit overclocked of course. I like to use tabs so it is handy. Loads more features than PIE.

For me, the best browser is the almost new Opera Mobile 8.65. It got new options to download images and to import IE Favorites, among other new things, and it's very fast.

Could you please post a link to the Opera 8.65 for pocket PC.

I have checked their site and the latest version yet available for download is 8.60 which I am already using and it provides no way to import the Internet explorer favourite links. So I guess 8.65 may be a beta version. A link for download would be most helpful, though I could see the version 8.65 for the Symbian S60 which will obviously not work for us the PPC users.

Thanks and Regards

Here is the link, with the new features. But it's true that when you try to download, the version is 8.60u2 (?).

I attached some captures with the versión page, the "Save Image" option and the "Import IE Favorites" option.

Yeah, it's the old 8.60u2 only, last modded last December.

Where did you acquire your beta from? Is there a public link / source anywhere?

I got it from a blog pointing to the page that I posted before and to a download link. But the download link is dead. So I guess that it may it be a pre-release version. Another thing, It doesn't asks for a registration code. It's very strange.

It runs very well (except the flash support that doesn't runs or I don't know how to make it runs). Even the "old" trick to translate cache and other files to the SD card runs well...

I got the CAB in my Desktop so, if someone wants to try, it I will upload it.

Can you post the original URL of the blog itself? google didn't find anything.

Must be time-bombed?

According to the linked page, it relies on the external Macromedia / Adobe Flash 7.0 plug-in.

Of course I'd be REALLY interested in getting it :)

Here it is :)

Menneisyys' comment: sorry, as a moderator, I'm also responsible (to some extent) for what files the XDA-Dev forum (or, at least, the threads I contribute to and, therefore, am bound to know the contents of) contains. This is why I've removed the link after speaking to the Opera folks: the file turned out to be a pre-release betatest version, in no way to be distributed. That is, someone from the betatest team has leaked the pre-production, NDA'd test version - at least this is what I think the case is.

Thanks again for the URL and the effort you've provided me the file (it's really appreciated); sorry, again, for my having to remove the link.

Could you please also remove the file from RapidUpload as well? (If it takes too much effort, then, don't do it. Just don't spread the URL.)

May be, Opera usually allows 30 days of trial... But the prior version allows to enter a registration code and this one, not.

I've it installed for PIE since a lot of time. I've reinstalled it but no results... I've looking in the Opera.ini but I found nothing.

By the way, there is a question about this version posted in Opera forums:

http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=180783

No answers... for now.

There's an answer there now:

For the record, Opera Mobile 8.65 for WM is still not released. And this page should not be public.

When the release is here, this will of course be announced. At least now you know what to look foward to.

Don't worry Menneisyys, neither you or me would know it. I think that the problem is not only that a person has stolen this software. Opera got part of the problem because they didn't put a BETA or PRE-RELEASE text in the about text of this version and they put a page (now deleted) in their server. So it seems to be official at all effects...

I've deleted the file from Rapidshare but it's widely spread cause I've seen it in some other places (I will not put them here).

If Opera is realistic, the next version can't be numbered 8.65. They may change it for, for example, 8.66, in order to difference the legit version from this stolen beta.

We'll wait for a legit release. I hope it will be soon :)

Best regards.

Does anyonw know how to get this new beta to save the cache to the storage card? I have it installed to main memory but when going on youtube to watch videos it takes all my available ram and locks up. This question is for anyone who was fortunate enough to grab the beta before it was snatched ;o)

Thanks

With Opera Mobile? http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=916&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1 :

"To redirect the cache, put the Cache Directory4=\<Directory> row in the [User Prefs] section of opera.ini. (This entry doesn’t exist by default in there.)"

BTW, welcome to XDA-Dev :)
