Copy the icon file (extract it from the sync.zip file) to the windows directory of your pda.

Step 2: Windows Mobile Device Center - Reinstall DriverNow that the ICON file is on the device, we need to reinstall the device driver so that WMDC will see it.

1. Make sure the device is synced and connected to your PC. You need an active connection so that Windows Vista sees your handheld device.

2. Go to the Control Panel.

3. Switch the Control Panel to the "Classic View" in the upper left hand corner of the Control Panel windows.

4. Open Device Manager.

5. Click the small "+" in front of "Portable Devices"

6. Right click on "Pocket PC" or "Windows Mobile Device" or "Smartphone" or similar.

7. Click Uninstall

8. Choose OK when prompted about Uninstalling the device.

9. The Device Manager will flash a time or two, and the device will no longer show up on the Portable Devices list.

10. Remove your Device from the computer.

11. Wait a good 30 seconds to 1 minute and then dock (connect) your device to the computer again.

12. Your computer will now be installing the device once again.

13. Open Windows Mobile Device Center, and you should now see your ICON on the left hand side (see picture below), and you have not lost any details of your partnership.

Sometimes the wmdc shows your old picture if that is the case copy the icon file to this directory

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles\[some strange code like 8ae71abe]

You forgot the step to copy the file also in your profile folder

Just place the icon file in de Windows dir on your PDA and place the same icon in this folder below ...

c:\users\(your username)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Pro files\(your profile key)\

THEN ..remove the device and re-add it.

"Copy the icon file (extract it from the sync.zip file) to the windows directory of your pda."

My o2 Orbit appears not to have \Windows , only \Storage Card\Windows , is this correct?

Show hidden files is enabled.

No thats not correct. Try to put it in you my documents folder then copy it with your devices own filebrowser to the windows directory. Had the same problem when aproaching from a desktop computer.

Good Luck.

Thank you for the icons again..

Actualy, the hermes icon works only in windows explorer and in WMDC it is the default blue PPC... Here are the screenshots..

The device icon must be place in the following location on the device:

Filepath: \windows
Filename: sync.ico
Required Resolutions: 16x16, 32x32, 48x48, 64x64, 256x256
Icon Bit-depth: 4-bit, 8-bit or 32-bit
Required Format: .ico file

I do not believe that your ico has 256x256

When I tried to extract this to my windows directory I was told by my device that it I did have sufficient permissions. Did I miss something and how do I get around that.

Any chance of being able to knock one of these up for the C600?
Failing that, how do you go about creating a .icon file?

I'm confused. I've tried for awhile to get this to work. Would it be possible for someone to make me one for the HTC S710?

Thanks :)

Hi Perjan, I can get the Artemis to show on WMDC, but I can't get the Orbit to work, is it because it's a .jpeg and not an .iso, how to get round? Many thanks.

Many more thanks, read the rest further down and I had copied the wrong file to the windows directory, all's well.
