prsnow

Here is a bass boost audio patch to fix the low bass problem on new Roms.
(NOTE: Apparently this issue is already corrected on the new HTC roms.)

There are three files included.
Install the certificate (Certs) files first and the HTC_WaveDev.cab file last.

I updated the download link with the individual CAB files for manual install instead. Install the HTC_WaveDev.cab LAST and it should work correctly this time.

I've got the same ROM and patching went well without any problems. Sequence is very important. First intall certificates and only then WaveDev.

I have a very basic question about this problem with lack of bass with the new ROMs. How can you appreciate the difference when the earbuds of the headset provided by HTC are soooo big that it is even a problem to make them stay stable in the ear?
I use a SonyEricsson stereo BT headset and regardless of the other A2DP problems with the Trinity the earbuds can really fit my ears and bass is very good. When I travel by plane and I must use the HTC headset I just give up listening to music.

You're right, but the a2dp is less affected by this bug. I've tryed my bluetooth headset.

But that's right that the headset given with this phone is lacking of quality.

I installed the 2 certificate files, then did "turn off" device with the power button. Wait 20 seconds to make sure all is saved. Turn on "starts soft reset". Install the HTC main file. If you do a soft reset with the stylus hole sometimes recent changes can get lost.

Maybe offtopic but can you explain how you deal with incoming calls when using standard headphones without microphone? Can you hear through the headset and talk into the Trinity microphone?

Here you will find an adapter that includes a mic. There is also a 3-way adapter so that you can charge and listen at the same time. I own both and they work great. http://shop.brando.com.hk/o2xda.php

Yep, this is what I was going to mention to those who are getting the white screen. Power cycle the device (hold down power button for about 5 seconds to turn off device, then power on again after a few seconds) after installing the certificates to ensure the registry data is saved. Then install the wavedev file. BTW, if you get a white screen you can simply plug in the device to usb and uninstall the wavedev cab through activesync. Reboot and you'll be back to normal without a hard reset.

Choose the phone. But it really shouldn't matter cuz the cab files are configured to install in the windows folder on the device no matter what install location you select.

What you should have done is read this thread from the beginning!

Just bustin' your balls...

Just hard reset your trin (sorry - hope you have a data backup!) and then reinstall in this order: Cert files first and THEN AND ONLY THEN install the HTC_WaveDev file. The order is CRUCIAL! Installing HTC_WaveDev before the Cert files will send you to the white screen club! But, then of course you would have known this if you had read through this thread before installing it! ;) Lesson learned. Good luck!

You can also connect your device to usb with the white screen still showing (the OS still loads even though the screen is white), and UNINSTALL the wavedev cab through activesync. Reboot and you'll be back to normal without a hard reset.

You might want to do a soft reset with the power button in-between the Certs cabs and the WaveDev cab just to make sure they are saved in the system.

I'd like to integrate this into my german GPS rom and have two questions:

1) how can I check if this "bug" is fixed? Is there a noticeable difference when using the speakers or does it only affect the headset?

2) Does anyone know which files from the cabs have to be please in the OS itself. I saw how LVSW installs the certs but I'm not sure if you could integrated them directly into the ROM. Will have to read up on that.

I just thought I'd clarify this for anyone who just got an HTC branded trin and thinks that the sound quality can be improved by applying this fix...

This fix should be requalified as applicable only to Dopod roms. The original HTC rom did not have poor bass, we only started talking about this after the first Dopod GPS rom came out. So to be technical, the new HTC GPS rom is not "fixing" anything if you are upgrading straight from the original HTC rom, only if you have used a Dopod rom in the meantime.

Long story short, if you start with an official HTC rom, this fix will do nothing to improve your sound quality.

I am quite new to this site - I have an Orange SPV M700 with the original Orange ROM (GPS enabled - the phone was bought in Feb 2007)
I know you say it only works for DOPOD ROMS but do you think this fix will work for me? (I've noticed the lousy tinny sound from Windows Media player through my headphones as well just recently).

I could just give it a go anyway... otherwise I'm destined to lousy music until this problem is fixed properly. Does anyone know where to log problems like this so they are fixed properly (e.g. by HTC)?

I have an Orange M700, purchased in April, the sound was indeed very tinny, through both the speaker and the included earphones.

Grabbed the files from post #51 and installed as prescribed, HTC_Wav.cab last after the other two and a full re-start. Definately works, the sound through the earphones is much improved. The sound through the speaker is still tinny but then that's down to the speaker itself I think.

Thanks to prsnow, I don't know how your fix works but it does. Genius.

Hi,
This fix is great, and have decent sound again (thank you!), though have now realised that there seems to be some sort of conflict between this base fix and Card Export II (v3)... have not found any posts regarding this, though surely I can't be the first to experience this?!

Basically, after installing this bass fix, the Card Export icon disappears from Today screen, and when trying to access the prog from Programs, I get the following message: "Can't connect to driver interface. Please reinstall Card Export". And trust me, reinstalling does not work!! ;-)

Any help greatly appreciated, as I would rather not have to be without either of them!

Hi theboch,
I have had the same problem with cardexport v3, and the same message, but didn’t get there from any audio fixes issue. I lost cardexport icon just by clicking “exit” from cardexport tray icon menu. It disappeared and the program stopped working and i got the message "Can't connect to driver interface. Please reinstall Card Export"...
I finally managed to make it work using a file explorer and a registry editor.
This is what i did, i don't know what made it work:
1-go to program folder under program and run uninstall cardex by running CardExportSetup.exe
2-go to settings (under start) >system>uninstall program (sorry translating from French os)
3-delete program
4-manually delete program folder
5-search in your entire device for anything related using a folder explorer, look for those two keywords cardexport and softick, and delete them. Be careful deleting things...
6-open registry editing program, and search for the same keywords (cardexport and softick) and when sure of selection delete them again touching registry is risky so make sure it's only those two keywords results.
7-soft reset.
8-reinstall and when program asks…soft reset again.
That should do it.
Good luck.
