Yes the system is in chinese, so like the menu and setting are all in chinese, but when the english Rom is available , you can change it, that's what i will do anyway

Can't test GPS yet because i don't have TomTom install. Build Quality is very very good.

Camera much much better than Universal, very happy with it! I have bought a miniSDHC , and i ask the camera to store my pic there, set it to 3M pixel, with highest quality, times to store is like 1 sec, very very fast!

Even the front camera is better than the Universal Main Camera, and man, the screen is HUGE, so nice to take photo with this screen.

Video playback seems fine, but need to do more testing on large film. Speakers are very good! Much better than Universal.

Sorry faisal.husain, forgot to answer your question here, although the base system is in chinese, but all the new software you install will be in english. So if you install English TomTom, yes it will be in english :)

N93 is a good phone
but it isn't a pocket pc
the camera is 3.2 MP and Video Recording is very very good
the screen is not big but the quality is very good
and end phone if N Series is N95
that's Camera is so better than N93. it is 5 MP and Video Recording Quality is DVD
but my idea is athena is the best phone/pocket pc in the world now:D

no, it's not really shock resistant, you will need to hold it with your finger, otherwise it will fall down

yes, if you don't finger at the back to support the screen, it will fall down.If you use the case then you don't need to do that

Yes indeed imate was awesome and still their new product imate universal i believe is going to be awesome. anyways so advantage is the worst of athena's and dopod is the greatest in terms of performance and even in terms of the ROM? What makes you say that? Also i believe that advantage has the highest price. also is dopod only chinese? what about this new o2 xda atom life? is that a htc product it has a nice 1GB ROM! Very compact. But no HDD.

Anyways let me correct your assesement.

whats the quality difference in ameo and dopod you speak of? also i dont like the whole idea of the keyboard keys having chinese symbols embedded. that makes it chinese. yea english rom can be applied. when english rom is released i believe they will unlock the phone too. well there is a big price difference in dopod and ameo.

We alll know DOPOD U1000 is chinese ROM, so how to we turn it into engllish? A member here has already successfully apply the CE-STAR Suite to convert the UI into english. But the base rom is still chinese.
Why has no one try to apply ebglish ROM on dopod? will there be problem ?
Answer is no, if you have done ROM upgrade in the past, then you know althrough the rom is not specially design for you device, you can crack it and install it anyway.

So why has no one try that? Answer is simple, because english ROM is not out yet !!! when will english Rom be out? well, when Ameo is out or when Advantage is out, basically, when there is an english Rom available, we will be able to upgrade.

But so far there isn't any. So in simple word, Athena is not out in English market yet.

1. you have to use the headset, you can't use it like a normal phone, however there is a trick that you can turn the volume down and hold it like a normal phone, it kind of works...

2. you can use both, the supplied keyboard isn't that good for typing....

yes on screen keyboard is good, there are only 4 rows or key on Athena keyboard, Universal have 5 (one row for number) which makes them a full keyboard, and is much better and faster to type on Universal.

typing is ok, but keyboard feedback is not good, it will take a while to get used to the keyboard since it's quite different than the UNIVERSAL one.

I only want keybiard to type very long text SMS. i think it shoud be good for me.

6 rows give you number on a individual rom, so when you want to type number, you only need to press once, but if you only have 5 rows, you need to press the FN key then press the shortcut key for number, so it's slower and more difficult

BT Headset quality is good, it's BT 2.0, Range is very good as well.

2) Any speed difference in using the two screens for anything at all? Like menu navigation, games, photo slide show etc....?

I have just tested the VGA out, the result is truly amazing, no slow down at all, no speed difference, exactly the same.

That's great!!!....me thinks??!?? That means the problem is at my end. OK....do you have any anti-virus software running and software firewalls whilst running AS? I usually do, but don't know how relevant this is.

Tell me Wu, if you will. Do you simply right click and copy your chosen file on the PC and then simply right click and paste in your chosen folder on the MD or how do you do it? Maybe my old conventional method of copy and paste is not appropriate here?

I'll reboot my PC and soft-reset the Ameo and have another crack.

Yes i copy and paste using the old method, like you.
Since i am running Windows Vista here, i don't use 4.2 or 4.5, i use Windows Mobile Center, but it shouldn't be any difference as well.

Have you try on other computer, i hate to say this, but it could also be your Micro Drive's problem, you might want to keep your receipt safe in case you need to exchange your Ameo.

Wu.. been trying to use the camera, if i push the camera button nothing happens, if goto the camera application under programs, Screen goes bright loads the application but no picture just the menus and black background where the picture should be displayed.

Try soft=resetting your device, then push the camera in quite hard (change this under camera settings to 'half press' later) and be sure nothing is covering the camera lens at the back.

If soft resetting doesn't rectify, look at what you have installed that could be causing conflict with it. Let us know how you got on.

that's what i will suggest as well, you need to push the camera button all the way in, it's got 2 mode, one for AF, one for taking the picture.

I also have problems where i lose all soud, ringer etc, works fine over the BT headset but not on the phone. i.e. so when someone calls display flashes BT headset beeps but no ringing sound from phone. Reset phone everything is ok. Not sure what app maybe causing the issue. I have installed Spb shell TTN6 think thats it.

that is strange, you must have done something, mine one have no problem at all. did you still copy the old PIM to your U1000 btw? it will cause all sorts of problem

I hear you...got my receipt, but I don't think I'll need it. I've played with my cousins Ameo all day yesterday..everything works very well except large file transfers via Activesync, and another friend has reported the the same on his UK Ameo. I think it is ROM specific, but I'll try other methods in the interim.

Please send me the USB mass storage software...just want to see if it will access the MD better that way. Cheers.

hi, if you are using the BT Headset i send you, then no, i don't know why. I am not using that headset. I actually don't know too much about AD2P as well, someone here might be able to answer you. sorry :)

Hi all, Yesterday I managed to pair my Bluetooth Stereo headset AD2P with my Dopod U1000. I am so amazed that it can play decent music. I was wondering whether is the real player software better than the one that is built in? Another question is that do you have to manually turn on the bluetooth everytime you play music?

I installed the skype on the microdrive, is this ok or is it better to install into rom? The volume is very soft and I cannot get it to work on my bluetooth headset. Does anybody know how to do this? Many thanks

I think this may be down to the fact there are around 30 files ending ...404.mui. I think what i need is the English ...409.mui. I have tried to get them from my old Tytyn device but they appear to be locked and i am unable to copy them. How would i get them? Would it work?

REG hack to go from traditional chinese MUI to English MUI, nothing to do BT.

This changes all the menus from trad Chinese to English. However, it also stops my phone from ringing in that there is no call notification. I believe this is down to the fact that there is no ..409.mui support files; only 404.mui support files. (Have a look at the root of windows directory there are about 30 mui support files for exe and Dlls.) I think the lack of English (409) mui files does not allow the phone to function correctly; hence my problem with call notification etc. If i change the registry back to "SysLang"=dword:00000404 (Trad Chinese) Call notification and ID etc all works as it should (BUT i got Chinese menus etc). I need to know how to extract the 409.mui files from my WM5 Tytn which is WWE ROM. Every time i try to copy the files it says that they can not be copied. Can you tell me the process to dump these files or all the rom from my tytn.

at the moment it only works on IE and Opera, however i do believe in the future we will be able to use it with other application such as word by applying a reg hack

Hey Wu5262, I had a chance to play around the demo unit of U1000. They look really good. Is there a way to turn off the backlight like in Universal to conserve even more battery life? I noticed that the backlight keeps turning on all the time?

Also the demo unit was set to brightness level 2. I was playing with few camera shots, and some word documents and excel. and the battery life drops over 10% within an hour. is this normal, or it's a little bit too fast?
